Favorite Movie of All Time???
What's everyones favorite movie of all time.
Right now, I still really like The Ring and can't wait for it to come out on video. |
A Walk To Remember
|
Momento.
|
Quote:
I saw that coming a mile away.:) BTW, Hawaii, I maybe in the islands shortly. |
Shawshank Redemption
|
A tie between "Mr. Smith goes to Washington" and "Rushmore".
|
Did you say RUSHMORE???
|
Casablanca. Or Airplane.
|
Yes.
Got a problem? |
Jaws
|
Quote:
Yes, it's this hangnail, you see. Just kidding. Actually, I hated that movie. Felt dumber for watching it. No offense, you may feel the same from Memento. |
The Godfather
|
Quote:
Err, what? :D Tarkus P.S. Have to think a while but the ones that immeidately come to mind are The Great Escape, West Side Story, and The Shawshank Redemption. |
Saving Private Ryan
|
Mallrats
|
Too many too choose. If you pinned me down and made me pick just one I would probably have to say "A Clockwork Orange"
|
Pulp Fiction
|
Dark City
|
Raging Bull
|
At this moment it's The Usual Suspects.
Ask me again next week and it'll be different. |
Casablanca.
|
Sands of Iwo Jima
|
Usual Suspects
Shawshank a close second. |
Forrest Gump
|
THe Princess Bride
|
I have 3.
The Eagle has Landed. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. And my off the wall one: The Professional. |
Maid in Manhattan
|
Caddyshack or Vacation
|
Enter The Dragon, with Shawshank in second.
|
Battlestar Galactica
|
Quote:
Hehehe, you know me :p ;) When will you be here? |
This really has to be narrowed down by genre but...
Aliens or Scarface |
Wow, boiling it all down to one? That's a tough task. If forced at gunpoint though, I'd say Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. I keep hoping it will someday appear on DVD, or that I'll find a used laserdisc copy...
|
The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pitmann
|
Re: Favorite Movie of All Time???

Yikes, you won't catch me renting The Ring. I don't want to die... My favorites are: Alice In Wonderland (cartoon version) Field Of Dreams Apocalypse Now |
I don't think I could pick one.
Snatch, no, Good Will Hunting. Wait, Lock Stock was a classic. But can't forget Memento (no pun intended!), or Shawshank... |
Damn, or Mallrats...
Quote:
Really? My brother has the entire Stanley Kubrick collection, and I've never seen this. I might have to watch it. |
Quote:
Brace yourself - it's not for the feint of heart. Definitely worth seeing though... |
Good to see that my favorite, The Shawshank Redemption, is getting so many mentions here.
As many have said, though, it's very hard to limit it to one. I got a brain cramp once trying to figure it all out, so I settled on Shawshank and haven't looked back. :) Chief Rum |
A second vote for Pulp Fiction
Also a second vote for Rushmore???? I felt less intelligent for having watched it. |
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
A Clockwork Orange |
Tough call to pick one. Kelly's Heroes comes to mind.
|
Gettysburg
|
Wall Street
|
I've got hundreds of "all time great" movies that I love but one, and one only is #1 to me : STARWARS
|
Brazil
|
Word.
Star Wars. |
The Godfather, The Outlaw Josey Wales or Ferris Bueller's Day Off, depending on what mood I am in
|
Tough call...
Probably one of a few A Few Good Men Unforgiven As Good As It Gets |
Two Words.... OFFICE SPACE!!
By the way, I saw BLOW for the first time last night.. A very interesting movie, but it sure is hard to take Pee Wee Herman seriously. :D |
I didn't have as much trouble with Pee Wee as I did with Bobcat. :)
|
The Usual Suspects, followed by Shawshank, A Bronx Tale, Goodfellas, and The Boondock Saints.
|
Akira.
|
Donnie Darko? Heat? Matewan? Chasing Amy?
I think Donnie Darko. -Anxiety |
4-way tie:
Rushmore, Trainspotting, Shawshank Redemption, Amelie |
Say Anything... & The Great Escape

Tough call...I'd say Dead Poets Society, followed closely by American Beauty
|

Yes. Metropolis was good, and quite stunning visually. I agree that the story was missing a little something. And the art, while new and interesting, was a bit too much of a departure for me. Best anime I've seen recently was Spirited Away. Absolutely incredible, but I don't get them trying to sell this as a kid's movie. It would have scared the poop out of me if I were a kid! :D |
Man, tough question.
Saving Private Ryan, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Braveheart, Scarface, Vacation..... Saving Private Ryan - Most powerful Raiders of the Lost Ark - Most fun Braveheart - Best Story Scarface - Best Screenwrite :) Vacation - Funniest |
STARWARS period.
|
Without a doubt Fight Club.

I grew up in southern Boone County in Racine. Just a hop and a jump from Mingo. I was heavily into Boy Scouts, including my Eagle, Order of the Arrow, and counselor at camps. Our District was a four county district - Boone, Logan, Mingo and Pike (from KY). So I knew and worked with a lot of people from Mingo. -Anxiety |
What, no love around here for Red Dawn? Me and my friends must have watched that movie a 100 times when it first appeared on HBO and Cinemax during the summer between 7th and 8th grade
|
Oh yeah, Red Dawn! Wasn't that every kids dream was for Colorado to be invaded by the Russians, so you and your buddies could take to the hills and mountains with bows and arrows and bowie knives to fight a guerilla war????
Well, it was mine anyway and Red Dawn was perfect! :) |
One word....Half Baked
Oh sorry that was two words, I just hit wesleypipes haha |
My top three are comedies and not necessarily the best movies I've seen but they are my favorites.
1. The Princess Bride - fun for kids, funny for adults and Andre the Giant. Nuff said. 2. Big Trouble in Little China - wickedly clever, flying ninja's and an Russell doing a great John Wayne. Fun stuff. 3. Raising Arizona - the one movie that I'm surprised I didn't write. My twisted sense of humor all the way. "Do these balloons blow up into funny shapes at all"? "No, not unless round is funny." Now, the "best" movie I have ever seen would be the Godfather. - family, honor, vengeance, loyalty, scheming, and an overwhelming sadness that takes the fun away from the power they're fighting over. Powerful stuff. |

Hey Dutch, You didn't happen to be a friend of mine growing up in Fort Worth, did ya? :) Me and my friends would draw up plans to run to the mountains of Colorado or New Mexico in case all hell broke loose. This was back when Ronnie Reagan was doing a lot of sabre rattling, and people some people were convinced that there was gonna be some sort of armed conflict. It was a little personal thrill of mine to visit some of the towns where they filmed Red Dawn. The little town they used was Las Vegas, NM. The main street looked exactly the same as the movie, except for the tanks and concertina wire... :D And the year-round maintenance guy at the scout camp I worked at in New Mexico was one of the paratrooper extras at the beginning. That was pretty cool too! |
Right now I'll just go ahead and say STARWARS
|
tough to pick one but i would have to go with monty python's quest for the holy grail
|
The Party followed by Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls (Russ Meyer).
|
Casablanca.
Apollo 13. Dr. Zhivago Zulu Alien Rocky ...In that order... |
Too many to pick...
Halfbaked - An American classic:D Holy Grail Matrix StarWars numbers 4, 5, 6 Braveheart I could go on and on but those are some movies that I thought of. |
Since this is favorite movie and not "best" movie, it's a lot more fun:
I love Shawshank Redemption. It's one of those movies I have to watch if I'm flipping through the stations and it's on. I'm a sucker for Bond movies and while From Russia With Love is better, Goldfinger is definately my favorite. Speaking of being a sucker, I love big explosive action movies and T2 is definately a favorite along with others like the over-the-top Independence Day, humorous True Lies, and adrenaline pic Gone in Sixty Seconds. SI |
Revenge of the Nerds. Give me a line and I will quote the next one.
|
Quote:
No, but I'm certain that had I ever lived in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, I would have been in on those design plans.... :D |
12 Angry Men.
|
Big gaping holes Volume 4
|
LA Confidential
Goodfellas is a CLOSE second |
Rudy
Jerry Maguire Duets Memento |
Wonder Boys
Then probably American Beauty and Airplane. "Surely you can't be serious?" "I am serious, and don't call me Shirley." Favorite movie line EVER. |
The Odd Couple
The Raging Bull Blue Velvet Goodfellas Raising Arizona Pulp Fiction .......depending on when asked the question |
"Blade Runner".
|
Dances With Wolves
|
Snatch...just love that movie...and for that matter, the location!
:D Lock, Stock would be a close second. |
Quote:
I'll go with that too. With Office Space, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Fargo coming in close behind. |
Holy Grail
Little Big Man Glory |
Rushmore, Caddyshack, Slapshot, Swingers, Usual Suspects, Good Will Hunting, Life is Beautiful, Shawshank
|
Quote:
That's a documentary, right? SI |
ANIMAL HOUSE!!!!
TOGA TOGA!! -Aes- |
Band Of Brothers..
Not a legitamite movie but my second go through of the series was in one sitting [odd breaks for this and that] so I will add it in. The box says 11 hours and 45 minutes and I started at about 1pm and finished at 3am the next day. I called in sick to work that day. Saving Private Ryan and The Pianist were also very well done. Willy |
