WW fantasy football ( Playoffs start this week)

MollyMurphy and I were talking about fantasy football last night and she decided she wants to join a league this year. I thought it may be fun to try and get a league together of all WW players since we have a pretty tight knit community.

I also think this would be good for beginers since it would be free and very casual so if you ever wanted to do FF now is the time.

I've used Yahoo before with good results. We would do a live draft since that is half the fun on a date most convienent for everyone.

Once I know how many people we will have I can create a league, max is 20 if we even get close to that. I suggest signing up like you would a normal WW game.

oliegirl 07-30-2007 04:43 PM

I was thinking about this last night - I'm so in! If I can't make the draft, is there a way to do an automated draft list or something?

yeah, there will be an auto draft option but I hope we can find a good date for everyone.

put me in coach I'm ready to play Today

Autumn 07-31-2007 03:59 PM

I played FF on Yahoo last year, and it was fun, but it would be much more fun to play with people I know (kind of). I don't take it terribly seriously, so it'd be nice to join a fun league.

I'll try to make a draft day. I work at home on the computer, so it should be doable.

Lathum 08-01-2007 09:27 AM

OK, we are up to 12, does anyone have a preferance on draft days/ times?

I was thinking of a monday evening around 8:00 PM EST .

Any time after 8pm EST works for me for the most part.

Not sure what you mean?

the draft would be a live draft ant take about 1.5- 2 hours.

Passacaglia 08-01-2007 09:36 AM

It was just a WW joke.

oliegirl 08-01-2007 09:51 AM

8 pm should work for me, do we have an idea of which Monday it's going to be? I can't make this coming Monday b/c I'll be driving home from the beach...but as far as I know any other Monday coming up is good.

Autumn 08-01-2007 10:35 AM

That sounds like a relatively good time for me. Close to the kids' bedtimes, but there's no telling ahead of time how those will go.

not until late august.

hoopsguy 08-01-2007 10:48 AM

I'm out if the Monday is Labor Day, as I have a vacation wrapped around that date. But other than that, a Monday night works for me.

As the token west coast guy I have to say that 9 Eastern would be much much easier for me.

Chief Rum 08-01-2007 10:32 PM

Monday's are usually bad for me because that's one of my two-job days. But if we set it now (like, by this weekend at latest), and it's not next Monday or the Monday after that, I should be able to ask for it off and get it. I'm already locked in to that schedule, though, through August 13.

Lathum 08-01-2007 10:47 PM

it will be after the 13th, Is 9:00 ok for the esat coasters?

Sounds ok. I assume the first week of the season is the Labor day weekend.

ntndeacon 08-01-2007 11:24 PM

9 Eastern is fine with me

I can't speak for other West Coasters, but I can do 5 p.m. out here. I should be able to get home in time. If it helps with the East Coasters, I mean.

Lathum 08-02-2007 09:00 AM

OK< draft is set for Monday the 27th at 8:15PM EST. I tried to get something a little later but it would have been 9:30 which may be a little late for the east coasters.

I for some reason you can't make the draft yoiu can set up a preference list and the computer will auto draft so you can still play.

not yet, 30 minutes prior.

will you be there?

Passacaglia 08-27-2007 04:09 PM

Most likely not. I might be able to pop my head in every so often, but I wouldn't count on it.

Lathum 08-27-2007 04:10 PM

bah

Passacaglia 08-27-2007 04:21 PM

If I'm there at the beginning, how easy is it to switch me to autopilot if I drop off?

Lathum 08-27-2007 04:22 PM

easy, there is a box you can check or if you miss 2 picks in a row it goes to auto pilot

Passacaglia 08-27-2007 04:27 PM

cool, thanks

hoopsguy 08-27-2007 08:45 PM

Time to get the poll up with rosters so people can pick the "drafting champ".

Passacaglia 08-27-2007 08:46 PM

What a weird end -- i went to the window, and it was just done -- i didn't even get to say bye, or hear all the congratulations for my Brandon Stokley pick!

Chief Rum 08-27-2007 08:56 PM

Congratulations on your Brandon Stokley pick!

Lathum 08-27-2007 09:00 PM

should I change the settings to 1 starting QB per week?

after I drafted a third QB instead of a useful skill player? Heck no! :D

Chief Rum 08-27-2007 09:04 PM

And, BTW, it's a doable fantasy option that makes things (nicely) tougher. I was just joking in the draft thread wondering why we had two QB spots.

I DO wish I didn't get screwed out of computer access the first four picks, though. Ugh.

i disagree...i think it makes it un-doable...it pretty much guarantees that the team without 2 viable starters during a given week is going to lose.

Puts a premium on making the right choices then. ;)

You can always pick backups in expected blowouts if you're a desperate. Or you can go get Joey Harrington. If you're really desperate.

Chief Rum 08-27-2007 09:08 PM

Honestly, I can swing either way. I am fine with the three guys I got, but if people wanted to drop a QB starting spot for me, that's good, too. I probably drop one then for a skill player or a backup DEF.

saldana 08-27-2007 09:08 PM

for instance...in week 8, i am currently matched up with Kitna against Peyton and Delhomme....i am already down about 15 points in that game before the season even starts

Ok, I admit it would be more fun seeing others have to do it.

Alan T 08-27-2007 09:20 PM

I don't care enough either way to argue about it. I drafted with the idea of having to play 2 starting QBs, and that did affect my decisions on drafting. So my preference is to keep it as is but I'm just doing this league for fun, nothing worth getting all upset over :)

ntndeacon 08-27-2007 09:31 PM

I am all for the getting of Harrington by someone. he probably could be had for a small price.

+1

I mean, if we drafted with the assumption there would be 2 QBs, then there should be 2 QBs.

this is where i'm at now.

I spent my 2/3 picks on QB's, and if we only had one I would have spent like my 3/9 or 3/10 or something. so I would have had a drastically different looking team

hoopsguy 08-28-2007 07:06 AM

Add me to the list that drafted with the idea that we would be starting two. Based on where they went in the draft order most of the others did as well.

In terms of being caught some week with bad matchups well that is going to happen all of the time in fantasy football at some position or another. Just depends on where you prioritize your picks, injuries, and who has major movement from their "expected" performance.

Autumn 08-28-2007 11:40 AM

Yeah, I wouldn't have minded doing one starting QB, but now that I drafted thinking we had two, I'd rather not change. I certainly would have picked differently in that case.

path12 08-28-2007 04:29 PM

Nobody talking trash about their team? C'mon, people.

I'm not particularly happy with my QB situation but decided to focus on RB's and WR's before then, so for the most part the Tiny Bodyguards are pleased. Wish I knew what my draft position was though.

Alan T 08-28-2007 04:37 PM

I did the exact opposite and focused on RB/QB/Defense and my WRs are probably the worst in the league :)

I am the Villagers, but I'm not really interested in trading away a QB just yet I don't think. My gamble was that I would rather have a solid 3 QBs than a slightly better mediocre WR available at the time.. I hope it pays off!

OK, the playoffs are starting.

Saldana ( the dead villagers) and Passacaglia ( Vinager Checking In) have byes.

MollyMurphy ( Molly's Murphys) plays ChiefRum ( WolfBlasters) and Lathum ( Lathums Brew Crew) plays alanT ( The Villagers).

Thanks to everyone else for playing. It was nice that everyone stayed active and kept it light. I hope you are all back next year.
