2007 NFL Week 2 Thread

Listening to the Falcons eventual disaster on radio.

GrantDawg 09-16-2007 11:57 AM

My wife asked who the Falcons were playing. I just told her the team that is going to win.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:06 PM

Damn those are some fugly looking uniforms for the Steelers.

Pumpy Tudors 09-16-2007 12:07 PM

I have Buffalo and Pittsburgh on the TV. It's the only game airing here right now, and my wife is a J.P. Losman fan, as we regularly went to Tulane games when he was there.

For now, I have San Francisco and St. Louis running on SopCast, although I'll probably jump around a little bit there. I'm not terribly thrilled about any of the early games.

Early on, all I know is that I do not like the Pittsburgh throwback uniforms much.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:09 PM

It's amazing that teams want the black unis because they look tough (and slimmer, cough cough Sam Adams), yet the Steelers go with these yella helmets and piece of crap looking jerseys.

Not that that won't stop them from winning.

Cringer 09-16-2007 12:12 PM

I just flipped over to the Steeler game. I thought the Bills were playing the Wyoming Cowboys. The bright sun made the black a little brownish looking.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:13 PM

Damn Peyton picking on Nick Harper now.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:14 PM

Addai scores! Too bad he's on my opponent's fantasy team.

henry296 09-16-2007 12:18 PM

FYI. The Steelers uniforms are throwbacks to the 1940s. I agree they are very, very ugly.

J. Harrington passed to R. White to the right for 10 yard gain

This is some sort of miracle for both of them.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:24 PM

I'm waiting for Peyton Manning to sing "Our Country" for Chevy. The commercials will come full circle then.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:28 PM

Why'd I start Pittman over Cadillac Williams?

Is your name Ryan Snyder?

Good call. I know I read that somewhere. I have my laptop up with stattracker and watching the sunday ticket so I'm totally connected.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:34 PM

Buccs stripping the ball really well.

CU Tiger 09-16-2007 12:37 PM

Panthers 14 Texans 0 5 mins left in the 1st...

CU Tiger 09-16-2007 12:37 PM

Damn ok, make that 14-6

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:37 PM

Steve Smith doing really well. Two TDs in the first QTR.

CU Tiger 09-16-2007 12:42 PM

Mario Williams just made a #1 overall hit....JACKED UP!

Cringer 09-16-2007 12:47 PM

Doh!

Packers get a gift with a roughing the kicker penalty on a punt, only to have the next pass go through Donald Drivers hands, off his shoulder pad about 15 feet in the air, and it's picked off. I was disappointed with Driver at first, but Favre threw it behind him a little too much.

Packers good defense stopping Giants. Packers bad offense moving the ball but keeps having problems at some point to end drives.

This game ends up 13-10 at the high end.

Cringer 09-16-2007 12:51 PM

Huge pass, 46 yards, from Favre to rookie WR James Jones. Very nice! Not an inch to spare on that one, an inch shorter on the pass and it's tipped.

Cringer 09-16-2007 12:52 PM

Crap, I love my Packers, but the Giants defense really sucks for the Packers to be making some of these plays.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:52 PM

Joey Galloway. Still got the speed.

Fonzie 09-16-2007 12:52 PM

Nice. James Jones is my "sleeper" WR3 pick for my fantasy team this week.

Cringer 09-16-2007 12:54 PM

Packers get an offensive TD!!!! It's a miracle! WOOHOO!! Even got it with a run.

By the way, it's insane how many times you here the word "rookie" before the name of almost every player who got the ball on that drive.

Fonzie 09-16-2007 12:55 PM

w00t!

CU Tiger 09-16-2007 12:57 PM

int panthers
Schaub seems to have a real good arm, decent accuracy but makes A FEW poor decisions.

About what you would expect ffrom a (virtual) rookie. Im thinking the Falcons can kick themselves now....

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 12:58 PM

Vince Young has some freaking magic in his legs.

Cringer 09-16-2007 12:59 PM

Wow. Giants answer fast. :(

edit: freaking Packer safeties. the big weak spot.

Yes. That wasn't very good. I'd call the defense's performance right there downright un-good.

well the int was overturned by review....but still a poor decision

SirFozzie 09-16-2007 01:06 PM

That Colts QB. He might be above average some day.

(seriously, that offense of the Colts looks really good so far)

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 01:06 PM

Saints not looking too good.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 01:08 PM

He's a pretty lucky guy. Working in the same offense for 9 years would help anyone. That being said, he's been good enough to work in the same offense for 9 years.

Cringer 09-16-2007 01:10 PM

Packers DBs are hurting them more helping them. Charles Woodson may be able to cover a guy, but tackling Amani Toomer is impossible for him I guess.

GrantDawg 09-16-2007 01:11 PM

Roddy White is finally looking like a reciever, but they can cut Jenkins any day now. He has officially turned into a pumpkin.

GrantDawg 09-16-2007 01:13 PM

The Falcons have entered the red-zone for the first time this season.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 01:17 PM

Why aren't all the games in HD? That annoys me.

GrantDawg 09-16-2007 01:18 PM

And the Falcons finally got a TD.

henry296 09-16-2007 01:19 PM

Steelers just can't convert into TDs. 4 red zone trips and no TDs. Completely domination but only a 12-0 lead at the half. Buffalo with only 1 first down.

Rizon 09-16-2007 01:19 PM

Why do the Saints still insist on handing the ball off to Reggie Bush? He has the hole recognition of Stevie Wonder and the awareness of Stephen Hawking.

Logan 09-16-2007 01:19 PM

Hey Eli, don't ever make that throw again.

SirFozzie 09-16-2007 01:21 PM

That wasn't too smart from Vince Young. That 15 yarder killed the drive.

Cringer 09-16-2007 01:22 PM

Packers may have ust gotten lucky. Giants get a FG, but ended up having to go for that because of an odd 3rd down play. The Packers were offsides, and Shockey had a big first down catch anyways. But he spiked the ball, which is now a penalty this year.

The refs said they offset, and redid 3rd down. The guys in the booth are saying the way it was explained to them, the Giants should have gotten the first down, and then been penalized the 5 yards since it was after the play.

I am interested to see what the league says about it this week. Odd situation. My guess is the Packers had a blown call go their way.

SirFozzie 09-16-2007 01:24 PM

two peyton manning throws, 30 seconds, and they are 50 yards downfield

Cringer 09-16-2007 01:25 PM

I may have been expecting too much from the Packers offensive line this year. I thought the young guys in the middle would be much better. Still too young I guess, or maybe just not going to be real good. One or the other.

I like this RB Wynn for the Packers. Makes some plays.

Logan 09-16-2007 01:27 PM

Now they say they heard from Pereira and it was the right call. I don't understand how dead ball penalties can offset an offsides call, but whatever...

Eaglesfan27 09-16-2007 01:27 PM

Those Buc cheerleaders look very good. As a non-Bucs fan, that is the only good thing in this game.

Cringer 09-16-2007 01:31 PM

Wow, just flipped over to the Bengals-Browns game for the first time. 21-20 Bengals lead. Cleveland has the ball at the 2 minute warning and Jamal Lewis just busted off a nice run of 20 yards or so.

Northwood_DK 09-16-2007 01:31 PM

Didn’t anyone tell Cleveland, Houston and Tampa Bay that they are not supposed to fight back this week?

Sounds odd to me. As a Packer fan I will take it though. ;)

JonInMiddleGA 09-16-2007 01:33 PM

Good news: I picked up Joe Jurevicius as a fantasy FA for one of my teams
Bad news: He's on my bench :(

Cringer 09-16-2007 01:36 PM

Brylan Edwards, if I spelled his name correctly, just made a nice catch on his back after the ball was tipped.

And now Winslow just caught a TD pass! GO Browns, very nice! They take the lead. 27-21.

Cringer 09-16-2007 01:37 PM

3 straight TD drives for the Browns, and 2 FG drives before that. 5 scoring drives in a row. Guess we won't hear chants for Brady Quinn today.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 01:45 PM

Through 6 quarters, Lee Evans has gotten me 4 points.

Rizon 09-16-2007 01:45 PM

I'm thinking about trying out for a spot on the Bengals defense. Looks like they need a little help.

Raiders Army 09-16-2007 01:51 PM

Need to take a nap so I stay awake for the 2 PM games (MDT).

Cringer 09-16-2007 01:53 PM

I love my soon to be 8 yer old daughter. She is currently 2000 miles away with my wife in Washington state visiting my family. She just called asking for an update on the game and having me tell her what is happening as we are on the phone, as she stands there wearing her Favre jersey.

The funny thing though is she asked me, "Whats the number?" I had no idea what she was talking about and asked if she meant the score, she did.

And Packers take the lead with her on the phone, TD to Bubba Franks. Woo!

From experience, Evans is hit or miss. He'll go two straight games with 1 or 2 points and then go off for over 20 the next week. It is completely unpredictible which will be the great week.

Rizon 09-16-2007 01:54 PM

Frank Gore is a machine.

Northwood_DK 09-16-2007 01:55 PM

So Frank Gore goes 43yds on a 4 and 1 at midfield?

Nice call by the 9ers.

ISiddiqui 09-16-2007 01:56 PM

Wow... the Falcons actually look like a real team so far.

Just an amazing run.

ISiddiqui 09-16-2007 01:59 PM

WOW... Falcons kicker needs to be cut... NOW.

Cringer 09-16-2007 02:01 PM

Stinking stink of stink! Packers once again score a TD only to have the Giants make their defense look like poo on the next drive. Hopefully they can hold them to a FG.

Giants offense is pretty tough, Eli is a pretty good QB now I would say.

Northwood_DK 09-16-2007 02:01 PM

Atlanta is 0 for 2 on FGs today. Just wait and see. Next week Morten Andersen will be back.

RETURN OF THE AINT'S

ISiddiqui 09-16-2007 02:10 PM

Well, there goes the momentum changer. Falcons missing a short FG, and Jacksonville drives down the field and takes the lead 10-7.

Get prepared for a 1 yard Dunn run up the middle on first down, 5 yard pass from Harrington on 2nd down, and sack on 3rd down. Punt.

RendeR 09-16-2007 02:16 PM

Paging the Cincinnati bengals, Cincinnati bengals, please report to Cleveland Stadium, your Offense is waiting for your defense to arrive.....

Cringer 09-16-2007 02:25 PM

Packers offense is on fire! I love the Giants defense!!!

28-13 Packers, thanks to another turnover created by special teams.

You can't stop the Browns explosive offense. You can only hope to contain them.

Northwood_DK 09-16-2007 02:32 PM

49ers just got lucky and recovered a punt deep in Rams territory

Desmond 09-16-2007 02:32 PM

Makes me wonder. Has anybody ever been cut mid-game? And I don't mean the decision to cut them on Monday was made on Sunday, I mean actually "clean out your locker, you don't work here anymore".

I'm thinking in the early days of the league that almost had to have happened at least once.

I want to see the Steelers do good. :)

Desmond 09-16-2007 02:35 PM

I have no problem with them doing good, it's the seeing part that is annoying me.

JonInMiddleGA 09-16-2007 02:35 PM

Jags extend their lead to 13-7 over Atlanta with 3:39 left.
So now it's all up to Joey Harrington

I wonder where that phrase would rank on the list of most frightening in the English language?

Icy 09-16-2007 02:36 PM

The Titans are playing really well after a bad start, they have the Colts against the ropes.

Last week... it's all up to Kyle Boller. Oh, there's a pass off his back foot. And another... and another... ;)

MikeVic 09-16-2007 02:39 PM

Bryant McFadden big stick!! lol. I know what it means, but sounds funny anyway.

MikeVic 09-16-2007 02:40 PM

I don't have the Texans on anywhere, but they could be a decent team this year eh? That's a pretty tough division.

It's because they are the Green Bay Packers South. They have Ahan Green at RB, Flanigan at C, and Mike Sherman as an offensive assistant. They even copied the Packers by trading for an Atlanta backup QB to be their starter. :p

Interesting comparison.
Did you know that over their careers, Boller has a higher QB rating, better TD/INT ratio, and slightly better completion % and ypc average than Harrington?

Now compare the Lions teams surrounding harrington to the Ravens teams surrounding Boller...

Wow, that makes sense now....

Wynn with a 38 yard TD run on a 3rd and 6 play. SOme jukin' and jivin' there. I like the kid. 35-13, Packers rolling now.

Cringer 09-16-2007 02:51 PM

And Eli Manning goes to the bench with the Packers in control. Lorenzen is in.

Northwood_DK 09-16-2007 02:51 PM

Rizon 09-16-2007 02:53 PM

Hey, he made the comparison, so I looked at the numbers out of curiosity. They were actually closer than I expected, just that they all skew slightly in favor of Boller.

Meanwhile, the Falcons would probably have just as good a chance of winning by direct snapping the ball to Norwood as they do with Harrington at QB. They can't run block, they can't pass block, their receivers wouldn't frighten a high school secondary, and the defense apparently doesn't have much heart considering they just let Jax run off an 8 minute drive that basically sealed the game. And then there's the not-so-special special teams.

I may have to revise my prediction of 4-12, might have gone a little high with that.

Eaglesfan27 09-16-2007 02:53 PM

Heck of a throw by Anderson. Brady Quinn could be sitting all year.

MikeVic 09-16-2007 02:54 PM

I want them to get to 50 so badly. I don't remember a time seeing 50 points on the board. Maybe that one Super Bowl with the 49ers, but I was so young back then, and didn't really follow football.

The Bengals should not be punting at all anymore.

Eaglesfan27 09-16-2007 02:54 PM

Titans with a big stop and Tennessee has a chance to win it with 1:38 to go.

Rizon 09-16-2007 02:55 PM

I can't understand why the Bengals passed up 4th and 1 and 4th and 2 in Cleveland territory in a shootout.

Vince Young with a pretty first down run. The guy doesn't even look like he is moving much when he runs.
