Werewolf XCVII - Labyrinth II (GAME OVER - COMMONERS WIN!)
The basic concept of this game is simple - you'll all start on the edge of a Labyrinth, and your goal is to get to the middle. No one knows the layout of the Labyrinth to begin with - no commoner, no wolves, not the minotaur. There will be traps, items, and other things hidden around. The wolves win if they achieve an even ratio with the commoners. The commoners gain a minor victory if they kill all the wolves, but one commoner must reach the center for the game to be over. If at any point a commoner reaches the center, the game ends.
A different twist this time - the wolves did not build this Labyrinth, the Jester did, and as such he brought them here just like everyone else. They will also be trying to find the center - and if a wolf is the first player to reach the center, the game will end in a win for them as well - however, they do not need to find the center to win. There will be lynches and night kills. The wolves will alternate NK's and may only kill someone in their area of the Labyrinth. Lynch/movement deadlines: DAY MOVEMENT / NK PROCESS DEADLINE - 12 PM EST NIGHT MOVEMENT / LYNCH DEADLINE - 9 PM EST Results of ties known only to me. I will post the role list here (it is in progress, and I will edit it over the next few days - there will be no hidden or vanilla roles). Neutral Roles: Minotaur - You begin at the center of the labyrinth. During each movement phase you get to move two phases. The first move is up to you, the second is random (though it will never take you back into the space you have just moved from). You cannot be lynched or night-killed, but there are a handful of participants that could prove threatening should you find them. When you encounter most players, however, you will immediately kill them. Your goal is to eliminate all combatants within the Labyrinth. Loki - The Norse god of mischief returns. This role does not start the game aligned with either side - they will have multiple choices during the game that will guide their allegiance. Inferno Hunter - You used to be a famous scientist, but everything you gained over your long career was destroyed when you were asked to make the inferno device. Originally it was to be used as a defense mechanism, but something went wrong - you lost the ability to control its location while manufacturing it, and it is now unstable. You travel across the lands trying to find it and rectify your mistake. Each day and night you may scan a player to see if they contain the inferno device. If you find it, you will have two choices - deactivate it or activate it. Good Roles: Mentok, the Mind Taker - Standard seer role. All commoners (including neutral roles) will return a good aura and all wolves will return an evil aura. Paladin - Each night may place a protective shield on any player, preventing them from being night killed. May not protect the same player twice in a row. Telepath - There will be 2-3 of you, if you cross paths in the labyrinth you will be able to PM for the duration of the game, regardless of proximity. Theseus II - If you find the minotaur in the labyrinth, you will lock into battle and have a chance to kill it. Nostradamus - Before the start of the game, pick five players. For each of these five players that is killed within the first five kills (whether lynch, night kill, or otherwise), receive a free scan. Only one scan may be used per night. Mongol Warrior - You may choose one player to communicate with, due to the extensive experience in culture and trade achieved by the Mongols. This ability may be activated at any point during the game. Dr. Jekyll - During each movement phase you will have an increasing chance to transform into Mr. Hyde for the duration of the movement (25% day 1, 50% day 2, 75% day 3 and onwards). This will move you one space in a random direction in addition to your requested movement (though not back into the space you came from). If you encounter the Minotaur while in the form of Mr. Hyde, you will have a chance of defeating it. Nightcrawler - Cannot be night killed. Less vulnerable to traps. Does not have a movement action, instead he teleports once a day (at the night deadline). This will move him three random squares away from the edge of the labyrinth, but there is a 10% chance he will be stuck in a wall. If stuck in a wall Nightcrawler is unable to move during the next phase. FBI Agent - Each night may take one player aside and attempt to learn their role. This ability has a higher chance of succeeding if you vote for the player that day. (25% normal, 50% if voted for). The Agent uses a memory-erasing poison which prevents the interogee from knowing they were pulled aside. Phoenix - If night killed or lynched will come back to life where they died during the next phase, but only once. If killed by the Minotaur, they will return to life at a random location. Bad Roles: Ancient of Ice - Can freeze a player for an entire day or night phase, forbidding them from committing actions or posting during the selected phase. This can only be used once every two days, and if used, the frozen ancient cannot commit a kill that night. Ancient of Fire - Brutal. If killed, has the option to engulf a player of their choice in flames, destroying them. Each day and night they may scan one player to learn if they contain the inferno device. If the Ancient of Fire dies and the Ancients have not discovered the location of the inferno device, the scanning ability will transfer to a different Ancient. Ancient of Wind - Can transform into wind each night and learn the role of one player. Ancient of Earth - Has an innate connection with the soil that you stand on - each night they will learn who is closest to the center of the Labyrinth - and once during the game they may teleport any player (except the minotaur, if applied to the minotaur it will fail) to a random place in the Labyrinth - this ability may be triggered at any time. Items: Inferno Device - Placed in a random player (wolves included, minotaur not) sometime during the first day of the game. It may be activated by the wolves at any point, but only once, and cannot be activated until they discover who has it. If activated, it will kill the player who contains it. |

As you can see, the rules are also in progress, so if there's anything that needs clarifying, certainly bring it up before the game starts.
|
And this time I promise to get the Labyrinth scanned into the computer and posted in the thread at the end of the game.
|
What the hell, I'm on a roll right? =)
FLYNN |
In like Flint
|
Arg, I was going to take a break but this looks too cool.
In, though I know I'll be gone for a long weekend the 27th, not sure of the exact dates. |
You know this game influenced my Dungeon! significantly, right? I'm in. BUT, I am out next Thurs-Sun for a wedding. I can long in at night and submit some moves and stuff from m y hotel, but I will be unable to be active at all during that span. If its a problem, I can sit out. Otherwise, PUT ME IN BABY
|
I'm in if it starts next week.
|
I'll join.
|
Quote:
I'm glad, and the Dungeon definitely influenced how I went about setting up this version. |
I think I'll be able to play. Sign me up and I'll let you know if it changes between now and when roles are scheduled to go out.
|
in
|
Sure, I will join
|
I'll play.
|
I'll be lucky # XIII
|
Hopefully there are a few more signups today, if we get to 20 I'll start it on Monday, but if not I'll give people until Tuesday before starting it up.
|
Sure, why not.
|
Yay Tyrith!
Can Thomkal be far behind? |
I would like to play.
|
Quote:
Sorry but Thomkal is alphabetically ahead of Tyrith. But I'll play anyway. |
Okay so yeah - if the game gets to 20 players by Sunday roles will go out Sunday night and Monday will be the first day. Otherwise we'll start the game with however many are signed up on Tuesday, roles out Monday.
|
Quote:
Yay! Getting all of the Ts back in one game. Can tanglewood be far behind? |
Well, too bad tangle hasn;t looged on since 2007 :(
|
I can take off my first letter if that will help.
|
Just an FYI, we'll start Tuesday, roles will come out late tomorrow night. Would love to get a few more people, but whatever happens happens.
|
I'm in. Can pennywisesb be far behind?
|
Signups will close at midnight so that I can finalize the Labyrinth.
|
in a game like this, why would we lynch unless we were sure it was a wolf?
i was thinking i'd take a break, but if getting to the optimum number matters jackal, then i'm in |
Quote:
You have to lynch. You don't want to piss off the Jester. And thanks for joinin' |
aaah okay
|
ill try this again
|
So there are 16 roles listed (with 3 telepaths), the others will be added tonight.
|
roles going out soon?
|
Quote:
Not until the wee hours of the morning, sorry. I'm gonna be busy for a few hours and then I'll send 'em out. Signups close at midnight, anyhow. |
Roles coming out soon.
|
All roles should be out.

DAY MOVEMENT / NK PROCESS DEADLINE: 12 PM EST
NIGHT MOVEMENT/LYNCH DEADLINE: 9 PM EST First post will be updated for clarity. |
Awesome. I'm first. I'm never first.
I am a villager. I have a role (duh). Jackal, quick question, as I didn't see it stated: do the bad guys have PM rights like normal wolves? Also, we're at the edge of the Labyrinth, right? Are we all in the same place? If not, when do we get a description of where we are? Thanks! |
And as in the last game you do not have a movement to submit during the first day deadline - everyone's first movement is one square forward - except for Nightcrawler, of course.
|
Quote:
Yes, the wolves can PM. Quote:
Everyone is at a different location along the edge of the Labyrinth. You will start recieving various descriptions at the movement deadlines. All you know right now is that it's dark and you're confused. And because it was brought up last game - when you run into each other in the Labyrinth, you all look the same, so there will be no descriptive features of other players that give away their role. |
Before it gets asked, role reveals will occur on death.
|
Commoner checking in here, and looking forward to playing in this wacky Labyrinth after reading the original over the weekend.
|
I didn't have access to FOFC yesterday and thought that if the game was starting then I was going to hope I was the one voted out since that's my thing. Anyhow it's Tuesday and I am able to check FOFC so at least I won't be voted out D1 for that reason.
|
Only one PM = villager. That rule of thumb held up again this time.
|
Quote:
Jackal confirmed here the number of telepaths in the game, so with that I see no reason for the three of us not to reveal and build an immediate CoT. Worse case scenario is the wolves spend their night kills on us which allows our important roled people to do their thing. So with that, I am a telepath. |
Danny, add me to the list of Telepaths.
|
nice move there Danny. Now you telepaths need to make sure you report back on whether you receive PM rights when/if you run into a claimed telepath.
|
nice move Danny-boy
|
Lo all, I am here and checking in.
|
Here I am. I'm probably going to have to cast a provisional vote in the next two hours or so - I'm going to be out all afternoon into the early evening, and while I should be back around an hour before the deadline it's not certain.
|
Should we really have all 3 telepaths reveal right now? I'm wondering if knowing 2 is plenty, and that there might be advantages in keeping the third a secret. Besides, with any luck, the two of you will find the third on your own. Also, if the third doesn't reveal right away, we might catch a wolf trying to fake a reveal.
|
Telepath #3 here!
Was going to give it a lil bit to see if anyone would fake-reveal as my role, but then I finished my coffee and realized that'd be a poor move by the wolves on D1, so here I am. |
haha - eat me path!
that was my line of thinking and then i just talked myself into revealing. |
Quote:
I see no reason not to. It gives a CoT of three people, allowing lynches and scans to go elsewhere. And it forces the wolves decide to focus on us and narrow down the trusted people they will be allowing the more important players to use their abilities. As for catching a wolf trying to fake reveal, I doubt a wolf fake reveals here as all four people could be ignored and then between the real three telepaths it would only be a matter of time before one of us came in contact with the fake one and they would be caught at that point with a he said/she said among those two players. I really don't see the potential advantages you mention to this point. |
And with that, it's out. So we have Danny, Hoops and DaddyTorgo as the three telepaths. Assuming there is no additional reveals and all three of us are on the up and up this is a great starting point for the game. In the event there is a fourth reveal, I recommend ignoring all four of us as far as lynches/scans go and the one lying will be outed before long.
|
at least we don't have a choice today on moves. So we know where everyone is on moves and closeness t ocenter.
|
Wow, that's quite a collection of telepaths there. Hopefully the wolves didn't get treated so kindly by random selection.
So a night kill will happen at noon (if anyone is in the area, which I assume they're not at this point)? And then we lynch at night. I"ll have to get used to that. |
Quote:
Did you mean me? |
Aren't you the same person?
|
ssh
|
yes i meant you pass.
lol |
clearly i need more coffee. i might have to move to two-coffee mornings being standard.
|
Well, I thought it might have been that "eat me path" was your line of thinking, but you decided to just reveal instead of, uh...having path eat you.
|
Checking in as a villager, first real game of werewolf (not sure if The Dungeon counts). Hoping I don't do anything too stupid.
|
Quote:
If you're a wolf, it would be foolish not to tell us so :D |
Quote:
haha nope. there will be no eating of me (now watch the wolves night kill me first just to be funny so they can laugh about it to me via IM) |
Quote:
welcome to our lil world JAG! *hands JAG two courtesy days of immunity* |
Quote:
Apparently you have a second secret role as an immunologist. |
Quote:
Psst JAG-you get to decide the next Roguelike challenge. :) |
Checking in, looks like fun, hopefully I live longer in this one than I did in the first labyrinth =)
|
Checking in.
I have noticed a couple of people saying they are a plain villager, which sticks out to me since we know everyone has a role. |
Quote:
WELCOME!!! |
As a reminder, I'm in today and tomorrow, but on Thursday and Friday and the weekend I am at wedding stuff for my chick's sister's wedding. I'll try to be around then, but not during the day. I'll get caught up and put in move orders from my hotel at nights.
|
JAG, looking forward to having you take part in this game. Ditto to NFG. As for the rest of you, I think I've seen you around enough games by now that I don't have to be cordial anymore :)
Hopefully we can get the telepaths converging at some point in the very near future and further solidify our initial trust grouping. |
-a crackling noise jolts through the Labyrinth, sending most of you to your knees, gripping your ears-
Ah, hello! This thing on?! Quieter you say? Fine, fine. -some shuffling is heard and the crackling lessens- That better? Good, good, now that you can all hear me, welcome to my game! I look forwards to personally tormenting each and every one of you! -there is a rumbling, high pitch cackle- You may call me The Jester, and I'm your host. -the voice disappears for a few moments, only to briefly return once more- Oh! By the way! Beware the inferno! |
Checking in...Just caught up on this - how does the movement work? I haven't figured that out...
|
Quote:
For those that didn't play in the first one, it will make more sense when I deliver you your movement options this afternoon. |

I just reread and I did not notice this at all. The only person it looked like who said something that could be construed as this is Thomkal who checked in a commoner. I didn't notice anyone checking in as a vanilla villager. |
Quote:
Chief Rum checked in as a villager (with a role) before I did. JAG checked in as a villager. I checked in as a commoner. Of course I have a role, we all do, and we all know that, so lets not let the paranoia start this soon. I was just checking in so you knew I was here and reading the thread. |
Quote:
I agree, I have no issue with what you or JAG said. Big difference between checking in as a villager and checking in as a vanilla villager which no one has done yet. |
Thanks for the welcome all. I like to think I'm good at analysis and gaming and such, but following along for a number of past games I realize I am way out of my league. Still, I'll try and do my best to help out.
Thomkal, doh...you're right. I'll try and do something about that soon. |
Quote:
You'll be fine :). The last couple of games have been a bit crazy, this one should be pretty straight forward with all roles and mechanics seemingly revealed. |
Quote:
I never know whats going on. |
Don't beleive him JAG
|
Quote:
Yeah Jag, that's a pretty good rule to follow at all times, never believe Lathum. |
Leaving soon and will be out most of the day so may as well get the ball rolling.
VOTE NTNDEACON been wanting to vote him day 1 for a while now but will finally pull the trigger. He gets a pass way to much D1 because he is so quiet. The other person I was thinking about was Dubb since he ran the last game and if IIRC has gone deep in a few games lately. |
Quote:
sigh :( how easily we forget the good plays I make as a villager. |
Default D1 vote, likely to be changed.
VOTE NTNDEACON |
Well darnit, LOL, two simultaneous votes. That said, I'm still not moving.
|
Quote:
Yeah, but sometimes the suspicion you get as a possible wolf helps you to stay alive and make those plays. Still, I am only teasing, sort of :) |
Quote:
I know, but we all know I am going to defend myself against your jests! |
Checking in before I go to work. I'll be back around 6 p.m. EST.
|
Wait, Danny is the jester? I thought he was a telepath.
|
I thought the jester sang for the king and queen in a coat he borrowed from James Dean.
|
Vote Lathum.
I am not an ancient! |
Checking in. I'm neither an ancient nor a telepath.
