Build Your Own Hollywood Studio DRAFT!! (Game Thread)

Okay folks, here is where you will actually draft. When you make a selection, please bold it for ease of reading. Thanks!

Oh, and make sure you choose a name for your studio, or else I will assume you just want Yourhandle Studios.

Here is the draft order, randomized for your fun.

1. larrymcg421
2. Greyroofoo
3. Jedikooter
4. ntndeacon
5. jbergey22
6. Lathum
7. CrimsonFox
8. Mustang
9. Izulde
10. DrAFTjunkie

And then the next round is...

1. DrAFTjunkie
2. Izulde
3. Mustang
4. CrimsonFox
5. Lathum
6. jbergey22
7. ntndeacon
8. Jedikooter
9. Greyroofoo
10. larrymcg421

In reversed order. Then repeat each other round.

Remember, here are the basic rules:

1. 2 each of Director, Producer, Lead and Supporting Actor and Actress.
2. At least 4 of those have to be Golden Age of Hollywood (1927-60)
3. You must draft TWO intellectual properties that have never been made into a movie.
4. You are drafting movies, not TV
5. There are 6 hours between picks maximum, then you are skipped or I use the pm of picks you sent me. If you tell me to in the pm, I will just pick as soon as the person before you picks, so we can keep moving.
6. Please pm the person after you so they know their time is up.

Have fun and good luck all!

I have a question. With the intellectual property category, that makes 13 rounds and makes the snake format unbalanced. Can we add another category or maybe make it one selection for producer?

ntndeacon 03-01-2010 09:43 PM

Ruddy Rhenish Productions

CrimsonFox 03-01-2010 09:54 PM

If you guys care that much, I can add a second IP. Or I can rerandomize the 13th round if you want. Just let me know. I'm Abeflexible.

Well, I actually have the advantage. I'll pick 1st 7 times and last 6 times. So I was just trying to be fair. It's not a big deal for me if no one else minds.

Izulde 03-01-2010 10:23 PM

I'd say either add a second IP or randomize the 13th round.

Probably easiest just to add a second IP.

Yeah, I'm working on it now.

jbergey22 03-01-2010 10:24 PM

Its cool with me. I dont see a huge advantage in picking 1st or 10th in the 13th round.

The 13th round is important. It is where Kirk Cameron has value.

Wait, never mind, that is the 777th pick where he has value.

larrymcg421 03-01-2010 10:37 PM

1.1 Alfred Hitchcock, Director, Golden Age

Izulde 03-01-2010 10:40 PM

Great opening pick.

Lathum 03-01-2010 10:41 PM

Never thought that would be the first pick. He's a ringer but I thought number one was clear cut. Still, nice guy to have in your stable.

Greyroofoo 03-01-2010 10:54 PM

Pick forthcoming...

JediKooter 03-01-2010 10:56 PM

Yup, good pick larry.

Greyroofoo 03-01-2010 11:05 PM

1.2 Walt Disney, Producer, Golden Age

The man made an empire with a mouse and ushered in a golden era of animated films.

Izulde 03-01-2010 11:07 PM

Fantastic pick in a tough category.

Lathum 03-01-2010 11:08 PM

Walt is a good one, would have never thought of him.

JediKooter 03-01-2010 11:13 PM

1.3 John Ford, Producer, Golden Age

If we go with the 'add another category' route I think Music Composer would be a good one.

Totally disagree. It would be a one horse race and several people no one has ever heard of.

JediKooter 03-01-2010 11:25 PM

As long as no one takes Danny Elfman or John Williams...oh I see what Lathum is getting at. ;)

jbergey22 03-01-2010 11:27 PM

Strong picks so far.

Mine is in, so if Im not around Lathum you wont have to wait.

I second that.

Mustang 03-01-2010 11:33 PM

If you want a specific IP, you could make one of them Adapted Screenplay and make it a book that hasn't been made into a movie.

Abe Sargent 03-01-2010 11:33 PM

Okay, you now how to draft two separate IPs, never made into a movie before.

Lathum 03-02-2010 12:10 AM

I will be on to make my pick assuming NTN goes and Abe puts Jbergeys in

Lathum 03-02-2010 12:50 AM

Sent my picks in to Abe since I am on the west coast I dont wanna hold up things in the morning.

wade moore 03-02-2010 07:25 AM

Impressive when there is a pick in the top 3 that I have no idea who they are ;).

(I looked him up on IMDB and I still don't understand why he's top 3 worthy - but that's why I didn't enter this one, the Golden Age thing is not in my wheelhouse at ALL)

ntndeacon 03-02-2010 07:29 AM

1.4 Katharine Hepburn, Leading Actress, Golden Age

who don't you know? I mean the greatest thriller director ever, the head of the greatest franchise, and the greatest western director.

Abe Sargent 03-02-2010 08:30 AM

From jbergey's list:

1.5 Stephen Spielberg, Director

Abe Sargent 03-02-2010 08:31 AM

From Lathum's list, he said go ahead and pick:

1.6 George Lucas, Producer

Abe Sargent 03-02-2010 08:31 AM

CrimsonFox is on the clock.

Greyroofoo 03-02-2010 08:35 AM

Those were the next 2 on my list!

Mustang 03-02-2010 08:42 AM

I'm after Crimson, guess I have some thinkin' to do.

Nice pick! Slim pickins in the Golden age for great actresses IMO.

Lathum 03-02-2010 08:55 AM

Given the demographics of this board I am thriled Lucas was still around at 6

wade moore 03-02-2010 08:58 AM

I think Hepburn is a great value pick.

I think, because of the demographics of this board, that Lucas could bite you in the end - but I'm not sure. Some people (I'm not one of them) have a real hatred for what he did with episodes 1-3.

Noop 03-02-2010 08:58 AM

I hate all of you for not including me.

CrimsonFox 03-02-2010 09:00 AM

1.7 James Stewart - Lead Actor, Golden Age

I'm approaching my squad from a different standpoint. And the guy produced Star Wars and Raiders. what more could you want. Plus Howard the Duck, c'mon!

Oooooh Lea Thompson and Chip Zien! (whose only other credit I know of is the Baker in the Broadway version of Into the Woods)

"Talk about a rotten day!"

Yeah, cause having the most Best Director academy awards of all time is bad.

I think if you have a guy people have to go look up you are hurting yourself. PEople aren't going to take the time to do that when voting.

That's really the reason why I didn't take him with my pick.

Mustang 03-02-2010 09:47 AM

My pick will be up shortly

Mustang 03-02-2010 10:00 AM

If I'm starting a movie studio, I want to make cash so...

1.8 : James Cameron, Director

Lathum 03-02-2010 10:02 AM

I almost took Cameron, thought he may slip. FWIW Mustang has a similar philosophy that I do. That's why I took Lucas. He made billions from the star wars technology and everything that spun off from it.

ntndeacon 03-02-2010 11:08 AM

I had played with picking both Spielberg and Stewart. It saddens me that they boh are gone. but does not surprise me.

Izulde 03-02-2010 11:22 AM

okay I'm here. Just woke up. Give me a second.

Izulde 03-02-2010 11:31 AM

1.9 Humphrey Bogart - Lead Actor (Golden Age)

One of the greatest and most famous actors in history, many of his lines have entered in the American cultural lexicon, particularly from Casablanca. Others of his hits include The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and The African Queen, the last the only one he won an Academy Award for Best Lead Actor. He appeared in 75 films throughout his career.

Izulde's first pick is Sleeping Beauty...

DrAFTjunkie 03-02-2010 12:13 PM

1.10- Bette Davis, Lead Actress (Golden Age)

Eleven Oscar Nominations for Best Actress with two wins. Almost wrote Bette Midler, which would've been disastrous. Aside from the producer category, the actress category seems to be the thinnest, which leads to my next pick.

2.1- Merryl Streep, Lead Actress

Sixteen Oscar Nominations with two wins. As I said, the actress category is quite thin comparatively speaking, so I decided to load up while I still can. As far as Oscar nominations go, Streep and Davis are #1 and #3 all time.

Izulde 03-02-2010 12:21 PM

2.2 Audrey Hepburn - Lead Actress (Golden Age)

Breakfast at Tiffany's and Roman Holiday are her two most well-known films. Even today, she represents a quietly elegant, high-class beauty that presents a startling contrast to certain, more aggressive actresses. Won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Roman Holiday and received several other award nominations.

(I looked him up on IMDB and I still don't understand why he's top 3 worthy - but that's why I didn't enter this one, the Golden Age thing is not in my wheelhouse at ALL)

Has to be my pick I assume? :D

Mustang 03-02-2010 12:33 PM

My movie studio isn't gonna make no damn girly movies.

Pick 2.3: John Wayne, Lead Actor (Golden Age)

Izulde 03-02-2010 12:35 PM

Uh, Abe?

Audrey Hepburn's a Golden Age pick. :)

Lathum 03-02-2010 12:39 PM
