New Falcon's Uni

They should be unvieled today, but there is a rumour that these are it:

I hope not.

ice4277 04-24-2003 08:29 AM

They look kind of like Arena League unis. I suppose not too bad.

GrantDawg 04-24-2003 08:32 AM

The home and away from the same source. I don't like them at all.

Bee 04-24-2003 08:36 AM

Will all the players be wearing the #7 and Vick on the back?

Yes.

i like the roads better than the the homes, but yea, they're too tricked up. the old red 80's unis would be better. but then again, i'm one of those freaks who actually liked the old bucs orange uniforms.

I don't agree with you on the bucs uni thing, but the old 80's Falcon uniforms would have been my preference too.

Fritz 04-24-2003 08:46 AM

the same guy that made the scroll bars in FOF2001 must have done the lettering on the names

Cards4ever 04-24-2003 08:56 AM

Holy crap, are they going for the softball uni look too?

Bee 04-24-2003 08:58 AM

I like them.

Honolulu_Blue 04-24-2003 09:13 AM

Eh, not the worst in the league. They are all right. I like them keeping the original falcon on the shoulder. That's a nice touch. I agree, the original uni's were class.

Honolulu_Blue 04-24-2003 09:17 AM

Another thought. You can't blame the Falcons for getting new uniforms. You should strike while the iron is hot and, thanks the emergence of the "electrifying" Michael Vick, it is as hot as it will get for the Falcons. Time to make some money for Mr. Blank.

that would be the broncos, imho (bring back the orange, i say). and these new atl unis kinda got that same look going with the shoulder pad coloring. i do hope this isn't the direction of future nfl jerseys.

revrew 04-24-2003 09:20 AM

Those are golly-mom-howdy awful. Changing the logo was excellent. But the black unis were fine. What? They were afraid of Al Davis suing them for wearing black? Those are disgusting.

BTW, Bryce, I happen to LIKE the Broncos jerseys. And their helmet. A lot. But then, I'm a Bronco fan, so perhaps I'm biased. I do freely admit, however, that the Nike swoosh down the leg is a bit goofy.

Worst jerseys in the league will always belong to the Browns, just by default. Once the Buccs got rid of their rainbow orange, nobody is worse than brown, black, white, and orange. Mmmm, give me some more of that dog doo.

The Browns' jerseys? Worst in the league? Come on! They are classic. They look great.

yea, the browns are one of the best. up there with the cowboys, giants 'new' old school, bear, jets, and chiefs.

unfortunately, the new lions' digs removed them from the top end of the list. poor move on their part.

clintl 04-24-2003 10:27 AM

I think every NFL team should include at least a little silver and black on their uniforms just to piss off Al Davis even more.

Fritz 04-24-2003 10:30 AM

Maybe Al Davis will sue them for disgracing the league and therefore dropping the value of his franchise in turn.

It wouldn't surprise me at all personally. Since that last suit was thrown out and I think Al needs someone to sue.

GrantDawg 04-24-2003 11:02 AM

This is just a variation on the awful two-tone unis of the Titans and Bills (and others). I really like the new helmet/logo because to me, black on black just does not work at all. The unis need to have more red trim but having a sleeve not matching the body is too amateuristic, imo.

MylesKnight 04-24-2003 11:15 AM

Atlanta is joining the old WLAF? Nice, but they still don't even come close to the old Orlando Thunder "Neon Green" Threads.

Kodos 04-24-2003 11:41 AM

Ugh. This is not helping my transition from the Fins to the Falcons... :(

Buzzbee 04-24-2003 11:43 AM

All I've go to say is:

Anrhydeddu 04-24-2003 11:51 AM

This reminds me of the same reaction folks had when the new Broncos uniforms came out (and the reaction to that orange swoosh "stripe"). Just like an user-interface in a game, fans will get used to it esp. when you see Mr. Hype/Mr. Excitement/Mr. Greatest QB of All Time wearing these new threads, you wouldn't care if he was wearing pink with lavendar polkadots.

Kodos 04-24-2003 11:53 AM

I've always like the Broncos new unis. They are perhaps the best in the league.

The rumor that Roger Staubach is coming out of retirement is entirely untrue.

MylesKnight 04-24-2003 11:55 AM

They sort of remind me of WNBA Unis as well, for some reason.. ;)

SunDancer 04-24-2003 11:59 AM

I give the Seahawks the worst uniform nod in the league. What's with the "futuristic" mood? Man, I remeber the old Orlando Thunder uniforms and colors from the old WLAF.

MylesKnight 04-24-2003 12:02 PM

A friend of mine has one of those old Orlando Thunder, Kerwin Bell (Thunder QB) Jerseys.. He wore it out to a club one time a while back... Now that was funny.. :D.. and the damn thing did glow in the dark.. :D

Kodos 04-24-2003 12:15 PM

It gets worse. Look at those pants:AtlantaFalcons.com

TroyF 04-24-2003 12:38 PM

I HATED the Denver uniforms when they came out, but they grew on me quickly. I think they are some pretty sharp uniforms now.

Worst in the league? Gotta be the Titans.

Best NFL uniforms? Aren't even worn anymore. Why the Chargers don't go back to the baby blues is one of the biggest mysteries in all of sports. I had the money, I'd blow $400 on a Lance Alworth baby blue jersey. . . and I'm not even a Charger fan.

See? The same thing will happen with these new Falcons uniforms. It's the players wearing them and your emotional connection to the success of the team that makes all the difference. Just like most Broncos fans all of sudden loved those new unforms because they won two SB with them.

Ben E Lou 04-24-2003 12:46 PM

I'm a solid-color guy all the way. Ugh. Get the red off of the sleeves, and the little colored strips off of the pants. I'm fine with a single stripe, but this is overboard and looks cartoonish.

Not likely to happen here. I LOVED the solid-black look that Glanville brought with him.

SunDancer 04-24-2003 12:47 PM

I love the Thunder look. Lol

digamma 04-24-2003 01:09 PM

Also from the Falcons web site. Why would you put black and white photos on your uniform history page?

Shows off the past uniforms well

Buzzbee 04-24-2003 01:25 PM

You know, I would ALMOST rather see these 300 lb men come out naked rather than wearing the new God-awful Falcons uniforms. Almost.

I mean what's with the hockey stick down the pants leg?? Errrr!!!! I think Arthur may have just made his first mistake as Falcons owner.

Franklinnoble 04-24-2003 01:39 PM

While we're talking about uniforms - I think the Redskins should make the throwback unis they had last year their permanent uniform... I like the deep burgundy much better than the colors they have now.

That's the thing, for me I liked them the first time I actually got to see them play in them. (I believe the first preseason game for them was in Mexico that year, I remember watching the first play thinking "these aren't so bad" Elway was hurt in that game, so if the outcome had anything to do with me liking/disliking the uniform, it'd have fallen into the hatred category pretty quick)

I just think the Bronco uniforms (and the Bills to some extent) simply look better when you see them in an actual game as opposed to seeming a quick glimpse of them on tv.

I'll wait until I see the Falcons jersies in game action before I make a decision. First impression? Not good. Not good at all.

I used to love those Thunder green jerseys...of course I loved the Bucs old orange uni's too. Nothing was more aesthetically pleasing than watching the Bucs and Lions playing on natural grass....beautiful colors. Of course, the quality of the games would often leave something to be desired...

ColtCrazy 04-24-2003 02:24 PM

I guess I'm a traditionalist. The only new unis I liked were the Bucs, but I still like the old ones too.

These Falcons are horrible looking. Maybe the worst (if not, it's the Bills) Who thought that this two tone sleeve thing was a good idea?

The new Broncos ones are okay. I actually own an Elway jersey in both styles. Still like the old one better.

Of the old school ones, I liked the old Pats ones the best.

FBPro 04-24-2003 02:58 PM

cthomer5000 04-24-2003 03:15 PM

very ugly. They just tossed aside some of the best uniforms in the league.

Travis 04-24-2003 03:19 PM

MylesKnight 04-24-2003 03:47 PM

I've got to vote for the Bills as the ugliest current Unis... although Detroit gets a mention as well, due to the fact they decided to change their's...

Why do you have to mess with a good thing.. Sometimes the best answer is the one you currently have.... - Please send this to Lions and Falcons Mgmt..

FBPro 04-24-2003 04:30 PM

Worst NFL unis = Bears(uh boring)

Kodos 04-24-2003 05:23 PM

I'm sorry, specifically for Shorty's sake, but the Bengals uniforms are by far the worst in the league. Awful colors, awful design.

GrantDawg 04-24-2003 05:51 PM

I hated the Broncos uniforms and still do hate them. I hate these uniforms and I doubt very seriously that I'm going to change my mind. THEY ARE UGLY!!! This is depressing. Red, Black and Silver are the best colors for a sports franchise. Now they have gone and ruined something that should be easy. Everyone was saying Blank was thinking "throw-back." They couldn't get less throw-back than these.

I think I'm going to puke....

Also I'm looking for a Blue/Home breakers jersey from the USFL, any of the 3 cities they played in will be fine!!

I'm pretty sure the star refers to the star that the sherrif always wore in all the old westerns. In other words, the Cowboys came into the league looking to take charge, and for the most part, they've succeded...

What makes a good uniform and logo? Suggest a fictional nickname, and then describe a uniform/logo design.

What are you favorite uniforms of all time, in all 4 major sports (one from college or a dead league, and a current team's history of uniforms)?

What was the meaning behind the USFL uniforms? Didn't the AFL has flashy ones? What about arena's? What would u descirbe the trend moving towards today?

Hell yeah.. saying they're the worst in the NFL is a joke.. just another example of anti-Cincy bias.

Worst? Eh...the new Falcons, maybe, because the black of years past or even the old school red are WAYYYY better than these.

I agree. I curious though, why do they wear the logo on just one side of the helmet, and not the other?

Anrhydeddu 04-27-2003 08:29 PM

From my vast repetoire of useless logo/uniforms trivia, what team has the oldest helmet design in the NFL (sans facemask which has all now gone from gray to a color)? Hint - this includes the colors, logo and stripe(s).

Back in the 1950s, nearly all teams wore a basic color helmet, like the current Cleveland Browns - except for one team. Which team was it and what did that helmet logo look like?

Finally, the first use of a logo for an NFL helmet was in the 1930s when a team used a particular logo on their leather helmet for one season. What team was it and what was the logo?

In 1962, Republic Steel of Cleveland approached the Steelers about using the Steelmark logo on the side of their helmets. At the time, the Steelers wore solid gold helmets...and only put the logo on one side because they were unsure how it would mesh with the helmet color. Even when they later switched to the solid black helmet, the team decided to keep the logo on the right side only because of their newfound success (the 1962 team was the winningest team in franchise history at that point) and the interest that the unique logo style generated.

Anrhydeddu 04-28-2003 09:38 AM

It was the Rams. The horns were hand-painted onto the leather helmets by one of the players that also was an artist. I believe that it was around 1948. Sorry...dont' remember the player's name...

Anrhydeddu 04-28-2003 10:44 AM

Good job, aylmar. What color was the horn?

I think it was white...but that part I'm not 100% certain about...
