NFL Week 7 Thread

Week 7 features another exciting slate of prime time games .. Oh wait, no it doesn't. On SNF we have the Saints and Colts and on MNF we have the Jags and Ravens.

Awesome.

Rizon 10-20-2011 11:01 AM

Rex Grossman being benched for a guy that's thrown like 5 career passes and wasn't even good enough for the Dolphins?

Shocking!

RendeR 10-20-2011 11:03 AM

There is not a single game this week where a winning record faces another winning record.

I guarantee that the Bengals will not lose this week.

JediKooter 10-20-2011 11:25 AM

I predict the Jets will beat the Chargers.

Ksyrup 10-20-2011 11:55 AM

As a follow-up to my post in the Week 6 thread about the Ronnie Brown/Jerome Harrison trade being voided...

Quote:

As Philadelphia Eagles doctors were giving newly acquired running back Jerome Harrison his physical, they discovered a brain tumor that nullified a trade with the Detroit Lions, according to two league sources.

Wow.

Haha! Ok ok. If this was a playoff game, the Jets would definitely beat the Chargers, but, since this is a regular season game...they have a chance to not lose.

File under "Stupid NFL Tricks"

Fines handed out this week'
Chop Block: $7.5K
Flashing the middle finger to the other team's sideline: $7.5K
Calling your wife on the team doctor's phone after suffering a concussion to assure them you're ok: $10K (for: Illegal use of a cell phone)

I believe two Packers got fined $5k each for wearing yellow shoes lol.

jbergey22 10-22-2011 02:58 AM

Thanks to all of the Tebow lovers the Broncos/Dolphins line is now a Pick em game in Vegas. It would appear there is a lot of value in taking the winless Dolphins this week.

Apparently Tony Sparano needs to win this game in order to keep his job as well. I cant see the Dolphins not playing their asses off to keep their jobs for next season and to not let Tebow shine in their own state.

SD(4-1) at Jets(3-3)
Texans(3-3) at Titans(3-2)
Falcons(3-3) at Lions(5-1)
Bears(3-3) vs Bucs(4-2) in London

:)

Passacaglia 10-23-2011 11:57 AM

Winning record usually means *better than* .500

Thomkal 10-23-2011 12:04 PM

Hmmmm no Panthers game here in Myrtle Beach on either channel that gets it-showing the game in London instead.

Thomkal 10-23-2011 12:05 PM

not getting the Tebow game either, so let us know how he looks.

Somebody apparantly hit the wrong button-Panthers game back on with both channels

stevew 10-23-2011 12:12 PM

Seattle killed their first drive into 3rd and 31.

cuervo72 10-23-2011 12:12 PM

I think that was FOX-wide just for the anthems.

Nice run by Newton. Wow.

Ah I see I didn't stick around for the anthem when I saw they were at the London game. I hope it was good ;)

Thomkal 10-23-2011 12:19 PM

Panthers should have gone for the TD on 4th and 1, especially with Newton having 5 running TD's so far.

stevew 10-23-2011 12:19 PM

I wish the London game was televised here. 2 channels of watching Colt McCoy suck going on instead.

cuervo72 10-23-2011 12:21 PM

The woman who sang God Save the Queen wasn't too bad.

(and she could sing ok)

stevew 10-23-2011 12:23 PM

Whitehurst is every bit as bad as advertised.

Thomkal 10-23-2011 12:31 PM

Uh John Beck, not so good there...threw a pass that should have been intercepted, got another tipped at line of scrimmage, then got sacked and fumbled the ball away to Carolina. Rex Grossman better have his helmet on if that keeps up. :)

Shkspr 10-23-2011 12:33 PM

Already a near pick or two and a QB fumble for Washington...at some point you have to think about getting Grossman out of there and see what Beck has.

Oh, riiiiiiiiiight...

cuervo72 10-23-2011 12:37 PM

Wonder if Brian Mitchell is in the stadium and available.

TroyF 10-23-2011 01:02 PM

Tebow looks poor in the pocket thus far (huge shock)

The running game looks better, I think as a major result of Tebow. (people staying at home more preparing for him to run out)

3-4, 24 yards, 3 rushes, 19 yards, 1 sack (his fault) 1 of the runs was not his fault.

As I typed this on a 2nd and 10, Tebow stayed in the pocket and threw a pass to Eddie Royal in tight coverage. The pass was thrown about as good as you can throw a football and it went through Eddie's hands.

Prater has missed 2 FG in this game. Dolphine 3-0,

Finishing this up, Tebow was drilled hard and should have thrown an INT on a 3rd and 10 (tipped ball)

The Dolphin who hit him got called for a roughing the QB and he clearly hit him square on the head. Good call. Broncos ball at the 25.

As I finished typing the post, McGahee busts out for a 10 yard run and fumbles. Dolphins ball at the Denver 40.

Schmidty 10-23-2011 01:12 PM

HORRIBLE fucking call on Vandenbosh for roughing the passer. Garbage.

JonInMiddleGA 10-23-2011 01:28 PM

2 mins left in the first half, Atlanta leads Detroit 10-6. Falcons have 79 yds total offense, Lions have 75 yds.

edit: Naturally, while I'm typing that little tidbit, Atlanta gets another 69 yds (and a TD) on like 4 plays

MrBug708 10-23-2011 01:30 PM

Incredible hand strength by White

Shkspr 10-23-2011 01:34 PM

Washington KNOWS they've won too many games to get Luck, right? No harm in trying Plan B and go for the Wild Card.

mckerney 10-23-2011 01:41 PM

Go Dolphins! Stop sucking for Luck!

kingfc22 10-23-2011 01:47 PM

Houston absolutely doing anything they want.

This is also the first time I've ever seen a team jump offside and have the refs call the offensive team for holding when they grab the guy who jumped, wiping out the penalty.

Yeah that was just a bizarre call on the offsides/holding-refs will have a lot to answer for in this one after the game is over.

Matt Ryan with the "done for the year" looking knee injury.

The invisible sniper got him. (On second look, it looks like he was stepped on).

No bueno if you are a Falcons fan.

Bearcat729 10-23-2011 02:02 PM

Matt Ryan is down with an ankle injury, and it doesn't sound promising

kingfc22 10-23-2011 02:04 PM

Ryan walked off the field.

Glad to see that.

larrymcg421 10-23-2011 02:05 PM

17 of 30 for 99 yards. That's the combined numbers for the QB's in the Miami-Denver game.

kingfc22 10-23-2011 02:12 PM

And Miami going anti Suck for Luck today.

larrymcg421 10-23-2011 02:12 PM

I think the Broncos are just sucking harder. Before that last TD, the Fins couldn't have played much worse without making it as obvious as the Black Sox.

Bearcat729 10-23-2011 02:16 PM

The NFL needs to just call the Browns/Seahawks game a loss for both teams and put a stop to this right now.

This game sucks so fucking bad. I hate Moron Jr too. Colt McCoy is not going to be a good NFL QB no matter how much of a "winner" he has been in HS. And I'm guessing that Moron Jr drafted Red Bryant with all the fellatiating that's going on.

stevew 10-23-2011 02:25 PM

Dola.
Love how Sydney Rice went out of bounds untouched on the Seahawks first good offensive play

Also is the Browns/Seahawks game on in SC because of the residual Sydney Rice love?

Yes. There is some BAD football being played right now.

CLE/SEA, DEN/MIA, WAS/CAR all have been pretty awful.

DeToxRox 10-23-2011 02:40 PM

Mughelli's leg just got shredded.

Radii 10-23-2011 02:40 PM

Great throw and catch by Newton/Steve Smith, the second half has been so much better than the first. Not committing 3 penalties every drive helps I guess.

Radii 10-23-2011 02:44 PM

Touchdowns on 3 drives in a row for Carolina!

larrymcg421 10-23-2011 02:52 PM

Miami hasn't given up on Luck yet.

mauchow 10-23-2011 03:01 PM

I've got good games (jets/chargers and lions/falcons) on my TV but after the Wisconsin game last night I'm just football'd out right now... and I know being a Vikings fan won't help causes in 15 minutes.. lol

mauchow 10-23-2011 03:03 PM

What? Look, I'm not a Tebow fanboy and if he's the QB he was the first three quarters, he's not going to last long.

But that pass was picture perfect. No, it wasn't a tight spiral, but the accuracy was where only his guy could catch it and away from danger. It was a great catch by the TE, but no more of a great catch than the drop by Willis two plays earlier.

kingfc22 10-23-2011 03:13 PM

Orton looked a little too happy about calling the wrong side of the coin to lose the coin toss.

Just saw the highlight of that on Direct TV's red zone... astoundingly stupid.

kingfc22 10-23-2011 03:14 PM

Rivers throws the ball away on 4th down and the Chargers lose.

He must have thought it was 3rd down...right???

JonInMiddleGA 10-23-2011 03:15 PM

With the absence of Manning, Tebow is quite likely the most interesting thing about the NFL to me this year. I figure that means he'll throw a pick six in OT or something.

I know this much, I'm more interested in a Tebow win than I am in a Falcons win. I guess that's in part because Calvin is probably the next closest thing in the league to being someone I'd actively root for but still.

cuervo72 10-23-2011 03:20 PM

Nope. This was the capper. Blowing a 15 point lead with 3 minutes left in the game.

Tebow is so lucky. That first TD was such an awful throw.

Rizon 10-23-2011 03:30 PM

9 straight losses for the LOLphins and like 1-12 at home in last 13 home games.

Matthean 10-23-2011 03:31 PM

Stafford in 3 of his past 4 games has a completion percentage of 48.8%, 56%, and 46.9%. Um, that's not good.

Was able to catch the last 2 Lions games on TV, and man he's been awful. He's had the accuracy of a drunken blind man that died 3 years ago.

JPhillips 10-23-2011 03:46 PM

Hardesty got 95 yards on 33 carries.

I wonder what the record is for most carries without getting to 100 yards.

Julio Riddols 10-23-2011 03:50 PM

I find it odd that a QB like Palmer can be "not in game shape" - He doesn't run the ball anywhere, and just about anyone off the street can throw a football 40 times without feeling too much fatigue. I guess either way Bollers performance isn't gonna raise any questions as to who should be starting in two weeks.

Not sure, but I would almost guarantee Eddie George owns that record.

Edit: George does have a game against PIT in 2000 where he ran 34 times for 98. Not sure if thats the most, but..

Part of the problem with Stafford being injured so much people assumed he would be really good based on limited viewing. His accuracy issues is rather surprising though.

Turner getting 100+ yards I think was one of the safer bets coming into today. The DL might be able to create a bunch of pressure, but it matters little when a team can jam it down your throat.

How many of those are there in the AFC West at the moment?

Boller? Boller?
The Chargers just conjured the Schottenheimer era against the Jets.
The Chiefs may be the best team in the division at the moment & they aren't really the surest bet in the world.

I'm not saying it's likely, I'm just pointing out the possibilities that's all.

stevew 10-23-2011 04:13 PM

Mike Wallace is amazing

mauchow 10-23-2011 04:17 PM

Brian Robison just kicked a Packer in the nuts after an extra point - the rule for the penalty should be enforced differently; especially now with the increase in touchbacks.

Perhaps after the next 'play' so instead of on the kickoff it should be wherever the ball ends up. So if it's a touchback it should be half the distance to the goal line, etc.

I watched every play of John Elway's career. (really, I"m a sports geek if you guys are just figuring this out) He didn't always throw spirals. The goal is to get the ball in the spot it needs to get to. It may have been an accident, but we can never know what the QB was trying to do. All I know is the ball went to a perfect spot. It couldn't have went to a more perfect spot.

Another poster above talked about the horrible throw on the first TD pass. I think in context the throw is a little bit better. First off, he evaded an unblocked blitzer from his blind side. Then he ran against his body to make that throw.

It's funny, there were at least 10 throws today Tebow made you could look at and say "no way in hell an NFL QB throws the ball like that" The swing pass four feet over Moreno's head. The pass to the sideline that ended up between a mid range Royal and a deep Thomas. Missing a wide open Decker by 15 yards. I mean, I can come up with a crapload of em off the top of my head.

His most impressive throw of the day in my mind was the 43 yarder to Willis. Not because it was a very tough throw, but he stepped up in the pocket and hit him in stride. That was a solid throw. The TD and the diving catch by the TE were thrown where they were needed to be and they worked.

If he throws the ball like he did the first 3 quarters, he's got about 10 games left as an NFL starting QB. If he throws the ball like he did the last quarter, he'll be the starter in Denver next year.
