The 2013 Super Bowl Thread!
Take your bets and odds now!
|
All I know is that I'm staying far away from strip club parking lots in Nawlins in two weeks.
|
Let's shift the tide from "Harbowl" to "Supharbaugh," mmkay?
|
Nice br!
I want the Ravens to win for teh Ray Lewis send off story more than the Colin K suck off special that will happen if the 49ers win. Better yet, what happens if Colin is injured in teh first quarter, and Alex Smith come sin and wins the game? That'd be awesome! Better yet, what if Colin is sucky in the first two quarters - four picks, and he gets pulled for Smith, who wins the game? |
I vote Harbowl, rolls off the tongue better.
|
What's the over/under for how many energy drinks Jim drinks until the game?
|
Quote:
Strong words from a seminarian! ;) I'd be down for an Alex Smith revival. |
Go 49ers I guess.
wouldn't mind seeing Ray Lewis get steamrolled in his final game |
Flacco has won 6 playoff road games, which is more than any QB.
|
I can't stand either of these teams winning. Hopefully, the Mayans are just late in their predictions.
|
A great matchup IMO. My money (heart) will be on 49ers but my head tells me Baltimore.
|
Ravens are this year's Packers and NYG, their QB and defense has gotten hot at the right time. Media will overdo the brother vs brother and Ray Lewis but it'll be a good matchup. I like how the two HCs made big changes on offense during the season and they both worked.
|
Have to go with the Ravens. Scary Poe animals > greedy old moneygrubbers anyday
|
Quote:
Couldn't happen to a worse human being. Well, it COULD, but you have to flip the saying around. Anyway, Lewis is one of the last folks I'm rooting for to win a Super Bowl. He's ahead of Michael Vick, Rae Carruth, and some others, but way behind most other players. |
Quote:
|
Ill be rooting for the 49ers in the Superbowl
|
Go Niners.
|
Quote:
+1 |
Have the opportunity to go to New Orleans. The 49ers << SF Giants, but these may well be one of those once in a lifetime kind of things.
|
I'm gonna watch reruns of the toenail clipping championship....That way I can stay away from any bloviating bobbleheads in the runup to the stupor bowl and all the insipid Ray Lewis stories.......
|
I'd think it was pretty friggin cool if I had 2 sons, and they both ended up with NFL head coaching jobs.
But, WOW, if they were facing off in the Super Bowl. Jack Harbaugh has to be feeling pretty awesome right now. |
I wonder if Caldwell is going to make more hay with is "revolutionary" strategy of not running every single first down.
|
The title of this thread should be "The Super Bowl XLVII thread". :D
I hope it is a good game that comes down to the end. I'm having a hard time not rooting against the Ravens. A lot of my facebook friends are from MD and I am seeing a lot of obnoxiousness since the game ended. |
Quote:
This. I watch very, very little ESPN already, mainly live events. ESPN doesn't recognize hockey. NHL network doesn't recognize Ray Lewis or the Harbaughs. About now is a great time to block uno through ocho. |
G-Men!
|
To think that UCLA hired Rick Neuhesiel over John Harbaugh
|
Gotta root for the 49ers, even though it pains me.
|
Who to root for? Frank Gore or Ray Lewis?
|
I think it is a win/win for me either way. I would love to see people have to admit Flacco won a SB. I have a soft spot for the 49ers due to watching them growing up back in the Bill Walsh days. Just because the Lions were on the TV didn't mean I enjoyed it.
|
I hope Ray Lewis and the Ravens get murdered.
Too soon? |
White suit? What white suit?
|
Quote:
Now that I think about it, which will aggravate people more if they won this Super Bowl? Ray Lewis or Randy Moss? |
NINERS!
|
<---Steelers fan but I have a begrudging respect for the Ravens and Ray Lewis as a player (although I, too, think he's a murderer).
That being said, I believe that the Niners win this game with ease. |
Quote:
I dunno- I recognize the Niners are favored, but their defense relies heavily on the front 4 being able to generate pressure without blitz help. When an offensive line can hold them (like the Falcons did) even without the threat of a running game, it gets a lot easier to generate yardage on them, as the Falcons showed. |
Quote:
I'd say that's probably Lewis, exponentially. I doubt half of non-49er fans even realize that Moss is playing. |
Quote:
I'm sure Randy wonders the same thing. :) |
Have any folks here been to a Super Bowl?
|
|
Quote:
2004, Pats/Eagles in Jacksonville. Hell of an experience, really glad I went...wasn't even tempted to try to pick up tickets to this one despite my team being involved. Horribly overpriced, and it's a much better experience watching on TV. |
Quote:
Say it ain't so Ray. I'm sure when pressed, he will testify against his friends. |
A player recovering from a torn triceps in weeks isn't normal??
Huh. |
I didn't kill no motherfuckin' lion.
Oh, snap! |
Jesus healed those triceps
|
Quote:
Considering you'd be spending 4k a person, from what it looks like, I'd much rather buy 2-80" tvs or 1-90"tv with the 8grand spent on 2 people. |
Im not even sure I'll be watching it
|
Quote:
At the very least Joani is a girl and doesn't feel bad about not being an NFL head coach. The same can't be said for Peyton and Eli's brother... With some pressure from my co-workers, we're hosting a Super Bowl party. BYOB and somewhat of a potluck dinner. I'm making Apple Pie drink (with everclear!), the Bacon Explosion, and popping popcorn in our Sam's Club popper (almost as big as movie theaters). |
|
Quote:
I understand how he's a former Raider, but seriously he played for a couple of years. He played for the Niners twice as long. |
Quote:
This was the most under-reported story in football. |
There are recorded phone calls of Lewis on the horn with the guy that sold him all the illegal stuff. Lewis is specifically asking the guy to send him "everything he has" during the call.
Kinda funny, actually. |
Quote:
Neither is what AP did. |
Lost in all of this stuff though is how awesome some of these things must be.

This is almost comical. I would love to see a transcript of the full conversation. Magic Recovery Ointment Company: "Hey Ray, how's it going?" Ray52: "Ah man, got a nasty triceps tear." MROC: "Sorry to hear that Ray. By the way, do you know we have this magic ointment made from the antlers of deer?" R52: "No, I haven't. Why is it magic?" MROC: "Well, Ray, after years of refining and strict clinical trials, we found that if you grind up deer antlers, it will cure almost anything." R52: "Anything?" MROC: "Anything, Ray. It can even get blood out of white clothing." R52: "Haha! I see what you did there. Seriously though, you think it could heal a torn triceps?" MROC: "Absolutely. Just use the topical ointment and in a few weeks, you'll be as good as new." R52: "I really don't have a few weeks. I need to get back in the game. Just send me everything you got and I'll just do an intense regime of applying the topical ointment." MROC: "No problem. One things for sure Ray, you definitely know how to be intense!" R52: "Haha! Indeed I do. Indeed I do." |
Here you go...the actual transcript is included in a Sports Illustrated article.
Tracing the involvement of NFL, college football players with S.W.A.T.S. - NFL - SI.com --- Hours after he tore his triceps during an Oct. 14 home game against the Cowboys, Ravens All-Pro linebacker Ray Lewis and Ross connected on the phone. Again, Ross videotaped the call. "It's bottom, near the elbow," Lewis said of the tear. After asking a few pseudo diagnostic questions, Ross concluded, "All right, well this is going to be simple. . . . How many pain chips you got around the house?" "I got plenty of them," Lewis replied. Ross prescribed a deluxe program, including holographic stickers on the right elbow; copious quantities of the powder additive; sleeping in front of a beam-ray light programmed with frequencies for tissue regeneration and pain relief; drinking negatively charged water; a 10-per-day regimen of the deer-antler pills that will "rebuild your brain via your small intestines" (and which Lewis said he hadn't been taking, then swallowed four during the conversation); and spritzes of deer-antler velvet extract (the Ultimate Spray) every two hours. "Spray on my elbow every two hours?" Lewis asked. "No," Ross said, "under your tongue." Toward the end of the talk, Lewis asked Ross to "just pile me up and just send me everything you got, because I got to get back on this this week." |
This map excites me more than you can imagine (considering I got a masters in Regional Geography)...
Facebook Data Provide The Most Accurate NFL Fandom Map Ever Created ![]() |
I lived in Hawai'i for a year and I don't think I met a single Steelers fan.
|
Not even Oakland likes the Raiders. Maybe Al Davis was right.

I can't wait to read this article. My bolding: Ah, nothing like quack medicine to the rescue. I wonder if Ray also wears one of those magnetic bracelets? |
Lots of Dolphins' fans in Wyoming.
|
Quote:
Probably has to do with the story being from the LA Times, where the Raiders used to be all the rage. |
Quote:
So it really is paradise. |
Quote:
He shoots ... he scores  |
Quote:
That's the Broncos. They used like 5 colors in this map, so it's a little hard to read in some places. |
Times like this is when I really hate being color blind ;)
|
Quote:
you probably have a better chance of reading it. |
Quote:
Yeah, I was there for 4, and outside of a few service guys that were from Pitt, I agree. Although, I never ventured far into the Samoan community, and I'd bet Troy Polamalu brings a pretty decent fan base. |
Smallest fanbase according to that map? J-E-T-S! Jets! Jets! Jets!
|
Quote:
This will, of course, change once they sign J-Russ. |
Quote:
Only if they post Leaf's bail and have a 3-way QB competition. Montana's so fractured they might actually be able to pick up a county or two for taking him off their hands. |
Posted on another board I go to sometimes. This one is almost all people from the part of Seattle I used to live in, so the idiot quota is off the charts.
Quote:
sadly this guy is serious |
Quote:
Maybe I'm crazy too, but I don't think it's THAT bad. I can see the 49ers and Seahawks - Kaep v Russell - Carrol v Harbaugh .. as a solid rivalry for the next little bit. Add a splash of homer excitement to that, and his post isn't that crazy. Like I said though, Maybe I'm crazy too haha. |
Quote:
Oh, I think it will be a great rivalry. I was talking about the part where he claims they are the 2 most underdrafted QBs in history. That is crazy talk. |
Quote:
I'm pretty sure Brady wins one spot. |
Quote:
Was Eli underdrafted? |
Quote:
Caroll v. Harbough probably doesn't have Harbough quaking in his boots |
Who is this Harbough you guys are talking about?
|
Quote:
Montana wins the other |
Quote:
Johnny Unitas was a 9th-round pick... |
I can't think of a worse 2 weeks for the NFL than from the moment the last conference championship game ends until the kick-off for the Supber Bowl.
It's just the worst. |
Quote:
I agree with this when I'm not really interested in the game. My wife asked me yesterday what sort of goodies she could make for the occasion and gave her some ideas. I was finally excited for the game. |
But, the Pro Bowl was just this past Sunday...
|
It was something like 10 years ago that they stopped alternating between giving the Super Bowl teams an extra week off and not doing so. I always enjoyed the build-up more when there wasn't a bye week in between. (They were also able to finish the season in January in those years!)

If you're looking for Russell Wilson, good luck finding him. I think he's standing on his tippy-toes behind the girl in red.

I am shocked no one pointed out the "Back to Back World War Champs" shirt, with the Stars & Stripes overlaid on a map outline of the US. That is kinda hilarious. I would say who is wearing it in the pic, but damned if I know--I'm awful at recognizing players.
|
And AP wins the MVP. I can dig it.
|
dola -
Try and forget that this is from Bleacher Report. I thought Richard Sherman was pretty damn cool in this: hxxp://bleacherreport.com/articles/1512316-richard-sherman-finds-out-whos-the-best-shut-down-cornerback-on-bourbon-street |
Cool but funny that Arians and Pagano were 1 and 2 in the Coach of the Year voting. They deserved it, unlike the results for MVP and Comeback (should've been switched) and RoY (should've been Wilson).
|
A couple predictions, sure to go wrong:
#1. Akers has a perfect day, converting all extra points and 2-2 on field goals. #2. LaMichael James has a breakout game scoring three TD's, one rushing, one receiving and one on a kick return, on his way to winning MVP. The 49ers have been using James more and more in this offense, and the team seems due to have a big KR. #3. The 49ers coast to a 34-7 lead by the end of the 3rd, but the Ravens score two garbage time touchdowns to make the final score 34-21. We're overdue for a Super Bowl blowout, and it seems like this game can either be a 49ers blowout, or a classic where the Ravens or Niners win late. I'm going with the former. To be fair, I am a 49ers homer, so any and all of these predictions can certainly fail spectacularly. |
Pulled pork and chicken are in the crock pot. Chili and hot sauce done. The poker and drinking starts at 2:00 for anyone who wants to stop by ;)
Everyone have a fun and safe Super Bowl Sunday!!!! |
It seems like the 49ers just have too many ways to score. Even if Baltimore can take some of them away, they will be able to transition on the fly to others.
So, I see the 49ers winning by, say, 10. I'm not totally confident in that prediction b/c Baltimore's MO this season/post-season has been to play better than people expected. But, there it is. I'll guess 27-17 San Francisco. |
The two week wait is finally almost over and the area is definitely stricken with 49er fever and it's pretty cool to see.
|
Homemade pulled pork is staying warm in the crock pot, football squares are done, waiting on the wife to get home to head out to the Super Bowl party at my dad's house.
GO RAVENS!!! Ravens - 27 49ers - 23 |
Very disappointed in Marino.
