Incarnate Word vs. Abilene Christian (FBCB2 Interactive Dynasty)
This is an interactive dynasty based on a similar idea as my Pirates vs. Royals dynasty. Here's the way it will work:
1) Participants will be a blue chip recruit for either Incarnate Word or Abilene Christian. Each season, one player will be added to each team. 2) Instead of picking attributes on a points based system, participants will select an NBA player and a season. I will use the Find Ratings feature to come up with player skills. 3) Height/Weight will be based on the top recruit for that position. 4) Intelligence will be set at 100 for each player. 5) Early departures are off. Conference movement is also off, because I want to keep both teams in the same conference as part of a rivalry. I did turn on conference prestige change, so maybe we'll see some movement for the Southland conference. 6) The seasons picked have to be from 1977-78 or later as complete stats aren't available from before that. If you're interested, just post below with your player name, team selection (Abilene or Incarnate), and the NBA player and season your ratings will be based on. Abilene Christian 2013 - SG Vincent Harvey (Alvin Robertson) 2014 - PG Mike Schaplowsky (John Stockton) 2015 - SF Rob Nielsen (Scottie Pippen) 2016 - SF Dean Hoo (Grant Hill) 2017 - PG Jeeber De Mack (Tim Hardaway) 2018 - C Jobu Eckman (Hakeem Olajuwon) 2019 - SG Erik Flamebeard (Michael Jordan) 2020 - PF Dude Hoo (Kevin Garnett) Incarnate Word 2013 - SF Izulde Jestor (Larry Johnson) 2014 - C David Ginsberg (Patrick Ewing) 2015 - PF Jawouk Bafou (Kevin McHale) 2016 - PG Nathaniel Lang (Chris Paul) 2017 - SG Kuji Chagulia (Reggie Miller) 2018 - SF Ariel Ginsberg (Bernard King) 2019 - SF Gabriel Jestor (Stacey Augmon) Code:

Team Overview: Abilene Christian
AD Expectations: Avoid last place in the conference. Head Coach: Chris Bevis, 39 years old. Abilities: Recruiting (3), Scouting (1), Offense (10), Defense (7) Bevis is by far the best gameday coach in the conference, but will his atrocious scouting doom him? Also, his weak recruiting could be problematic in these first few years when depth will be key. The assistants are awful. Asst Coach Vernon Duda is the only one with a rating higher than 4 and that's a 5 in Defense. Roster: Other than Harvey, there's not much to write home about on the Wildcats roster. The only one that seem to have any potential is PF Norris Ridge who can play strong D and hits the boards really well. Code:

Team Overview: Incarnate Word
AD Expectations: Avoid last place in the conference. Head Coach: Jack Phelps, 39 yrs old Abilities: Recruiting (8), Scouting (4), Offense (2), Defense (9) Phelps is the 2nd best recruiter in the conference, so it'll be interesting to see if he can grab any depth for our FOFC guys. He's a defensive specialist in a conference loaded with them. There are 4 coaches with a 10 and another with an 8. The assistants aren't much to write home about, all $30,000 salary guys. The only rating above a 4 is Asst Coach Myron Collins who has a 7 in Offense, filling some of Phelps' gaps. Roster: Other than Jestor, the best Incarnate players are one dimensional rebounder Brock Twitty and jump shooter Albert Rogers. Code:

November Results
November 19th Abilene Christian 61, Sacramento State 48 - Abilene gets off to a good start with a convincing victory. Playing at SF, Harvey led the way with 22 pts, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals. Norris Ridge grabbed 9 rebounds and played solid D. November 20th Incarnate Word 74, Texas Arlington 64 - Izulde Jestor's completely dominating performance led Word to a season opening victory. Jestor had 22 points, 21 rebounds, and 6 assists. Surprisingly, 3 other players were in double digits and Twitty grabbed 9 boards. November 22nd Abilene Christian 66, Idaho State 60 - Make it 2-0 for the NCAA newcomers! Harvey once again impresses with 28 pts (helped by 12-13 at the line) and 12 rebounds (7 offensive). Ridge fouled out early but PF Leon Dorris picked up his slack with 15 rebounds. November 24th Coastal Carolina 73, Incarnate Word 51 - And here we see how hard it is to do everything by yourself. Jestor's 22 pt, 11 rebound performance isn't enough as Coastal obliterates the Cardinals. Albert Rogers had 7 points and that was 2nd highest on the team. November 27th Drake 79, Abilene Christian 73 - Drake ends the winning streak at 2 games, but it was a close one. Harvey's 24 pts and 9 rebounds kept Abilene in it until late in the 2nd half. SG Frank Vela surprisingly added 17 points. November 29th Portland 86, Incarnate Word 60 - Once again Jestor gets absolutely no help and once again Incarnate gets blown out. Jestor had 17 pts, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists but it wasn't enough to overcome a 2nd straight game where none of his teammates got into double digits. Texas Arlington 73, Abilene Christian 66 - Harvey had 19 pts, but also 5 turnovers. Abilene was unable to overcome an 11 pt halftime deficit. Ridge added 12 rebounds Code:

December Update
December 1st Clemson 79, Abilene Christian 45 - Abilene doesn't have a chance against BCS power Clemson, but Vincent has a good showing against the competition with an 18 pt performance. No one else on Abilene in double digits. Incarnate Word 61, Cal Poly 54 - It's amazing Incarnate pulled this one out as Jestor had his worst game of the season, plagued by foul trouble and only managing 8 pts and 4 rebounds. PF Arthur McKay had 21 pts and 10 rebounds and SG Albert Rogers added 15 pts. December 3rd Abilene Christian 61, Tennessee State 57 - Vincent Harvey carries Abilene on his shoulders with a 20 pt 9 rebound performance. Only one other player was in double digits. Tenn St made it close at the end, but Vincen't clutch free throws put the game away. December 12th Western Michigan 82, Abilene Christian 67 - 20 pts, 6 assists, 6 rebounds by Vincent Harvey were not enough to overcome WMU's two 20+ pt scorers and amazing ball handling as they only had 4 turnovers. California 74, Incarnate Word 47 - With 22 points, Izulde Jestor almost had half of his team's total as Cal overwhelmed his teammates. Aside from Jestor, the Cardinals were 11 for 30 from the field and only got to the line 6 times. December 15th Abilene Christian 59, Texas Southern 48 - For the first time this season, Vincent Harvey wasn't the leading scorer as PG Albert McDonald led the way with 16 pts. Vincent did have 15 points and 7 assists, including three consecutive assists that broke open a 3 pt 2nd half lead. December 21st California 68, Abilene Christian 55 - Vincent Harvey was held to 10 pts, but horrendous free throw shooting from Cal (16-33) kept this alot closer than it should've been. Vincent did add 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. December 23rd San Diego State 72, Incarnate Word 50 - Word travels to 23rd ranked San Diego State and keeps it close for alot longer than expected. SDSU only led by 6 with 11 minutes left in the game, but then went on a 10-0 run and never looked back. 17 pts and 8 rebounds for Jestor, with 15 points of support from Rogers. December 25th Texas Christian 70, Incarnate Word 62 - Im a battle of religious schools on Christmas Day, Jestor has one of his best games of the season. But his 29 pts and 10 rebounds were not enough to overcome Incarnate's 19 turnovers and 1-10 3P shooting. December 27th Incarnate Word 72, UMKC 47 - Izulde completely dominated with 33 points and 14 rebounds and this one was never close. Incarnate won the rebound battle 30-17 and shot 60% from the field. The only drawback was a 4 pt, 8 turnover performance from Albert Rogers. Abilene Christian 62, Grambling State 54 - Grambling State led by 1 at the half, but Vincent keyed a 12-1 run and Abilene coasted to victory. Vincent had 25 pts and 10 rebounds. December 30th Incarnate Word 56, Delaware 45 - Izulde Jestor's ability to get to the line led Incarnate back from a 4 pt halftime deficit. He scored 24 pts only only 8 attempts from the field, going 12-15 from the line. Albert Rogers added 17 pts and 6 rebounds. December 31st Cal Poly 56, Abilene Christian 49 - Foul trouble plagues Vincent and he is held to 14 points and 5 rebounds. without Vincent on the court, Abilene completely floundered, turning the ball over 19 times and unable to take advantage of Cal Poly's 1-18 3P performance. Quote:
Yeah and it's not like his defense is a hidden problem. He's the best defender on the team. |
Surprised they haven't plugged Harvey in at PG, where I thought he'd get a run this season with the above average ratings.
Cool to see an above average NBA player (in Robertson) translating appropriately to an elite college level player |
Quote:
The coach really liked McDonald's 6 in Passing, despite his 3 in Handling and 2 in Perimeter D. If I were coaching the team, I'd put Harvey at SG and for PG I would start Toby Eakins, who has a 6 in Handling. I think it likes Harvey at SF because he has high ratings in both PRD and PSD. He'll definitely move back to SG when Nielsen arrives. |

January Update
January 4th Abilene Christian 68, East Carolina 57 - ECU had a 37-29 lead at the half, but Harvey led Abilene on a 14-2 run to get back in it. The game was close until late in the 2nd hald when Abilene pulled away thanks to constant turnovers from ECU. Vincent had 23 pts and 11 rebounds. Northern Colorado 62, Incarnate Word 60 - Izulde struggled in the 2nd half as Incarnate blows an 11 pt lead. Izulde still managed 17 pts and received no help from his teammates. January 6th Dayton 70, Incarnate Word 39 - It's a slaughter as Dayton races out a 22 pt first half lead. Izulde is limited to 12 pts on 6 for 14 shooting, and his teammates combined to go 8 for 29 from the field. January 9th Abilene Christian 80, Samford 60 - Abilene jumped out to a 14-3 lead and never looked back. Vincent was dominant with 30 pts, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists. Norris Ridge added 11 pts and 7 rebounds. Butler 73, Incarnate Word 61 - Incarnate rebounds from their miserable showing against Dayton with an impressive performance against #23 Baylor. Izulde's 18 pts and 11 rebounds kept Incarnate as close as 4 pts late in the 2nd half before Butler pulled away. January 16th Abilene Christian 71, Stephen F. Austin 63 - Abilene opens conference play with a convincing victory. The final margin was only 8 pts, but Abilene led by double digits until a late meaningless rally. Vincent had 21 pts and 8 rebounds, while Albert McDonald led the team with 22 pts. Northwestern State 62, Incarnate Word 51 - Incarnate loses their 4th straight game despite another 17 pt performance from Izulde. Once again, no one else on the Cardinals scored in double digits. January 18th Incarnate Word at Abilene Christian In our first FOFC matchup, Abilene threatened to pull away in the first half, but Vincent Harvey hit a couple late jumpers to keep Incarnate within 4 pts at the half. Izulde Rogers scores on 4 consecutive possessions to lead Incarnate on a 14-4 run to open the 2nd half. Abilene was unable to keep up as Vincent got into foul trouble and was limited to 10 pts in 23 minutes. Izulde's 30 pt performance helped Incarnate pull away easily and snap their 4 game losing streak while ending Abilene's 4 game winning streak. Final Score: Incarnate Word 73, Abilene Christian 52 January 23rd Abilene Christian 60, Lamar 53 - Vincent was limited to 16 pts on 6 for 16 shooting, but he also had 5 steals and that was enough to lead Abilene to their 2nd conference win. Albert McDonald added 15 pts. Southeastern Louisiana 69, Incarnate Word 60 - Izulde's 24 pts and 14 rebounds were wasted due to another miserable performance from his supporting cast. The second highest scorer was Jamie Phillips with 10 pts. January 25th Abilene Christian 66, Houston Baptist 56 - Vincent led Abilene to an early 11 pt lead but was injured late in the first half and had to leave the game. His teammates were able to hold the lead thanks to 14 pts from Frank Vela and 12 pts from Albert McDonald. Lamar 63, Incarnate Word 52 - Izulde fouled out with 2 minutes left and a 6 pt deficit turned into an 11 pt defeat. His 17 pt, 7 rebound performance was wasted by his teammates. January 30th Abilene Christian 72, Central Arkansas 46 - Vincent returns quickly from his injury and overwhelms Central Arkansas with 27 pts and 11 rebounds. Abilene won the rebounding battle 38-21 and shot 56% from the field. McNeese State 65, Incarnate Word 55 - Constant foul trouble limited Izulde to 13 pts and 7 rebounds in 19 minutes. PF Arthur McKay tried to pick up the slack with 13 pts and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough. It was an interesting month. Incarnate got a big win in the first rivalry game, but other than that the month belonged to Abilene who went 4-1 in conference play. Izulde seems to clearly be the better player, but Vincent has had better help from his supporting cast. |

Vincent had 21 pts, 11 rebounds, and 2 steals. Lamar 60, Incarnate Word 48 - Izulde is limited to 14 points on 5 for 14 shooting and Incarnate commits 19 turnovers to fall to 1-5 in conference play. Incarnate actually led at the half, but turnovers doomed them and they were outscored 37-24 in the 2nd half. February 6th McNeese state 63, Abilene Christian 48 - Abilene lays an egg at home against a 4-16 McNeese State squad. Vincent had his worst game of the season with only 8 pts and 4 rebounds, while commiting 4 turnovers. Norris Ridge was the only ACU player in double digits with 12 pts. Incarnate Word 51, Houston Baptist 39 - After an ugly first half where Incarnate only managed 16 points, they poured it on and outscored Houston Baptist 35-21 in the 2nd half. Izulde led the way with 16 pts, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. February 8th Oral Roberts 72, Abilene Christian 54 - Oral Roberts is clearly the class of the conference and they cleaned up nicely at home. Vincent was held to 12 pts on 5-17 shooting and committed 10 turnovers! Abilene actually won the rebounding battle 41-29, but 22 turnovers on the day did them in. This third loss in a row dropped ACU to 4-4 in conference play. Texas A&M Corpus Christi 64, Incarnate word 58 - It was a close game late as Incarnate trailed 54-53 with 2 minutes to play, but Izulde missed consecutive shots and TAMCC was able to open the game up to a 5 pt lead with 1 minute left. Incarnate was unable to recover. Izulde had 23 pts and 9 rebounds. February 13th Abilene Christian 66, Northwestern State 47 - Both Vincent and Abilene ended their recent struggles with a convincing road victory. Austin 57, Incarnate Word 41 - Izulde was held to 12 pts on 4-12 shooting and Incarnate committed 21 turnovers in a miserable offensive performance. Only one other player was in double digits. February 15th Abilene Christian 69, Houston Baptist 50 - Abilene struggled a bit with a very bad Houston Baptist squad (3-20 on the season) and it was as close as 45-40 with 10 minutes left, but Albert McDonald keyed a 12-1 run that broke open the game. Vincent had 33 pts and 9 rebounds, while McDonald added 15 pts. Incarnate Word 71, New Orleans 64 - Incarnate finally gets their third conference win, but it's not much to celebrate as New Orleans is a very bad team (2-21, 1-9). As usual, Izulde led the way with 28 pts and 12 rebounds. February 20th Abilene Christian 70, Texas A&M Corpus Christi 52 - Abilene won their third straight as vincent had a great shooting day, going 8-11 from the field and 8-8 from the line for a 24 pt effort, adding 10 rebounds in the process. Abilene was once again dominate on the boards (45-27). Nicholls State 67, Incarnate Word 59 - Nicholls dominated the first half to take a 41-24 lead. Incarnate rallied in the 2nd half, but got no closer than 6 pts and Incarnate falls to 7-17 (3-8) on the season. Izulde had 20 pts and 12 rebounds. February 22nd Abilene Christian at Incarnate Word A much more exciting game than last time out. Incarnate jumped out to an early 12-2 lead and led by as m uch as 13 pts in the 2nd half, but Vincent Harvey scores on three consecutive possessions to cut the lead to 2 (34-32) at the half. The teams trade baskets in the 2nd half, but the key plays happened with just over 5 minutes to go. With Abilene leading 53-49, SG Frank Vela hits a 3 to make it 56-49. Incarnate doesn't score and on the next possession Vela hits a jumper from the free throw line and suddenly it's a 58-49 lead with 4:11 to go. Incarnate misses two free throws and Vincent finds Leon Dorris for an easy basket and an 11 pt lead. Abilene doesn't give up, though. Jestor beats the press on a breakaway and Arthur McKay adds a 3 pointer to close the lead to 61-58 with 21 seconds left. Vincent gets fouled immediately, but hits both free throws to clinch the game. Abilene gets their revenge and is now 9-4 in conference play while Incarnate drops to 3-8. Both FOFC guys had double doubles as Vincent went 19/11 and Izulde went 20/10. Final Score: Abilene Christian 64, Incarnate Word 58 February 27th Abilene Christian 61, Stephen F. Austin 48 - Despite my criticism of Albert McDonald's starting role, he has proven to be a consistent #2 scorer for ACU and his 21 pts led the way as Abilene jumped out to a 40-22 halftime lead and coasted to victory. Vincent had 20 pts and 8 rebounds. Incarnate Word 67, Northwestern State 50 - Incarnate takes out their frustrations on NWST by running out to a 34-21 halftime lead and never looking back. Abilene Christian 51 - With Vincent still out, Abilene gets dominated on the boards and Schaplowsky is unable to singlehandedly keep his team in it, despite 15 pts, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds. December 9 Murray State 78, Abilene Christian 70 - After a listless first half where Abilene trailed 46-28, Schaplowsky erupted in the 2nd half, ending up with 42 pts on 13-21 from the field and 15-18 from the line. Unfortunately, he had very little help as the rest of the team shot 6 of 22 with 16 turnovers. December 12 Idaho state 77, Abilene Christian 73 - Another great Schaplowsky effort goes to waste without a healthy Vincent Harvey. Mike had 18pts, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals, but just doesn't have the necessary support to pull out a victory. December 13 Incarnate Word 91, TCU 70 - Ginsberg has his best game of the season with 38 pts (including a 16-17 performance from the line) and Incarnate dominates this one from the opening tip. Izulde adds 18 pts and 11 rebounds. December 14 Arizona 78, Abilene Christian 55 - Abilene was unlucky to have Vincent get hurt just as they started a stretch of 5 games in 10 days. Without him again, not a single Abilene player scored in double digits. Schaplowsky has his worst game of the season, going 2 of 11 from the field, but he did add 12 assists. December 15 Incarnate Word 60, Montana St 43 - Ginsberg has his second consecutive 30 pt game and Jestor has a double-double with 10 pts and 10 rebounds. Montana St never had a chance, falling behind 36-19 at the half and being outrebounded 36-23. December 21 Abilene Christian 78, Grambling St 66 - Vincent returns with a subpar game, scoring 13 pts on 6 of 20 shooting, but Schaplowsky rebounds from his prior outing and leads Abilene to victory with 19 pts, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds. Grambling St was held to 38% from the field and committed 19 turnovers. December 22 Southern Miss 78, Incarnate Word 58 - Incarnate's winning streak is snapped as Southern Miss PG Ronald Bing scored 20 pts with 10 assists. Ginsberg is held to 10 pts and 6 rebounds, while Jestor gets 15 and 7. The rest of the team was 5 for 16. December 26 UMKC 79, Incarnate Word 67 - Ginsberg gets back on top with 23 pts and 10 rebounds, but it isn't enough to overcome Incarnate's 20 turnovers. Jestor had 10 pts and 8 rebounds. December 29 Incarnate Word 71, Northern Arizona 38 - Jestor has his best game of the season with 28 pts and 13 rebounds to lead the Cardinals to a complete blowout victory. Ginsberg added 20 pts and 8 boards. |

January 3rd
Incarnate Word 78, Utah 67 - Utah is definitely the deeper team, but they had no answer for Ginsberg and Jestor. Ginsberg scored 21 with 18 rebounds and Jestor had 27 pts, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. IW outshot Utah 58% to 37% January 4th Marshall 79, Abilene Christian 71 - Vincent put up 28 pts, while Schaplowsky added 14 pts and 8 assists, but it wasn't enough. Abilene let the game slip away early in the second half and a furious late rally wasn't enough. Marshall shot 26 free throws to Abilene's 13. January 6th Incarnate Word 62, Western Carolina 53 - Not as close as the final score indicates. IW opened a 17 pt lead at the half and coasted to victory. Ginsberg had 27 pts, 10 rebounds, while Jestor had 13 and 11. Creighton 66, Abilene Christian 51 - Schaplowsky had a bad night with 4 assists and 3 turnovers. Vincent tried his best with 18 pts, but it wasn't enough to overcome Creighton's massive 44-20 edge on the boards. January 8th Incarnate Word 93, New Mexico State 84 - Big win for Incarnate as Ginsberg explodes for 39 pts and 11 rebs. Izulde also had a double-double with 20 and 11. IW dominated almost every stat except three pointers. January 10th New Mexico State 79, Abilene Christian 73 - Abilene falls to 3-10 and the big problem now seems to be getting both Schaplowsky and Vincent hot at the same time. They keep alternating bad games. This time it was Vincent's turn, who was ha,pered by foul trouble and only contributed 12 pts and 4 boards. Schaplowsky put up 20 pts and 11 assists. Conference Play Begins January 15th Abilene Christian 77, Southeastern Louisiana 70 - Despite early season struggles, Abilene at least opens up conference play with a victory. Finally, Schaplowsky (25pts, 7 assists, 5 rebs) and Vincent (21 pts, 10 rebs, 4 assists) had great games at the same time. Incarnate Word 75, McNeese State 57 - McNeese State is a terrible (1-13) team, so it was a shock that this game was tied 36-36 at the half. But Incarnate predictably crushed the 2nd half on the strength of 27 and 9 from Ginsberg and a near trible double (16-13-7) from Jestor. January 17th Oral Roberts 91, Incarnate Word 83 - Ginsberg and Jestor combined for 83 pts and 29 rebounds, but they received almost no help from the rest of the team as a more balanced Oral Roberts (5 players in double digits) pulled away in the 2nd half. Abilene Christian 84, Central Arkansas 60 - Vincent and Schaplowsky were solid once again, both putting up double doubles and helping Abilene storm away from a 1 pt halftime lead. Vincent had 24 pts, 10 rebs, while Mike had 20 pts and 10 assists. January 22nd Abilene Christian 72, Northwestern State 47 - Schaplowsky has 10 assists and Vincent adds 18 pts to lead the way, but it's the defense that made the difference. Abilene held NW St. to 32% from the field and forced 21 turnovers. Nicholls State 77, Incarnate Word 60 - Ginsberg and Jestor are let down by their teammates again. They combined to score 44 points and no other player on the team had more than 5. Nicholls State is a weak squad, so this was a surprise. January 24th McNeese State 69, Abilene Christian 58 - Vincent Harvey gets injured in this one and will miss significant time. Schaplowsky had 14 pts and 7 rebounds, but the rest of the team was atrocious. McNeese State is only 3-14, but two of those wins come against our FOFC teams. Incarnate Word 44, Stephen F. Austin 30 - Nope, that wasn't a misprint. In a defensive fight, Ginsberg was the only strong offensive performer, scoring 18 pts and pulling down 17 boards. He also had 6 blocks. Izulde only had 9 pts on 13 shots, but did pull down 10 boards. The key was holding SFA to 22% from the field. Now for the bad news: Ginsberg got hurt late in the game and will not be back until late February. January 29th Abilene Christian 66, Nicholls State 57 - With Vincent Harvey out, we had a surprising performance from SG Paul Montalvo, who came out of nowhere to score 27 points. This helped make up for a miserable shooting night for Schaplowsky who was 3-17 from the floor, but did add 11 assists. Incarnate Word 70, Houston Baptist 49 - Izulde was able to make up for Ginsberg's absence with a terrific 31 pt, 9 rebound performance. The score was only 20-19, but Izulde and IW exploded in the 2nd half. Lyle White had 2 pts and 5 rebounds in Ginsberg's place. January 31st Abilene Christian 81, McNeese State 74 - Another random player steps up for Abilene. This time it is backup SF Richard Zeman, who puts up 20 pts and 7 rebounds. Schaplowsky adds 17pts and 9 assists himself, and an FOFC team finally beats McNeese State (now 3-16). Incarnate Word 63, Central Arkansas 60 - Incarnate manages to win another one without Ginsberg, but they are forced to OT by a 4-15 Central Arkansas squad. This could be problematic when they face tougher competition. Izulde had 20 pts and 12 rebounds. End of Month Notes: *Ginsberg is out 22 days and Vincent is out for 16 days. *Ginsberg is 2nd in the nation in scoring, blocks, and rebounding. He also has a massive lead in Free Throws Made (8.2-5.4 for 2nd) and Attempted (10.1-7.8). *Jestor's scoring is down, but he is 9th in the nation in rebounding. *Schaplowsky is 1st in the nation in assists. |

February 5th
Houston Baptist 57, Abilene Christian 41 - Schaplowsky's 11 pts, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds aren't enough to overcome Vincent Harvey's absence. On the defensive end, Schaplowsky got abused by opposing PG Ferdinand Foote (24 pts on 9-13 shooting). Incarnate Word 61, New Orleans 44 - Without Ginsberg, Incarnate struggled with a winless UNO (0-20!) squad. UNO only trailed by 2 with 5:40 left in the game. But they fell apart in crunch time and IW pulled away with an 18-3 run to close the game. February 7th Abilene Christian 48, Texas A&M Corpus Christi 30 - Schaplowsky was enough in this low scoring affair. He put up 15 pts, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. It was a 30-15 halftime edge and Abilene just relaxed from there for an ugly, but easy win. TAMCC shot 24.5% from the field. Incarnate Word 51, McNeese State 48 - It looked like more of the same as McNeese State (who have only won three games, two coming against Incarnate and Abilene) pulled out to a 27-20 halftime lead. But Izulde led IW to a solid second half performance and helped turn back a late McNeese State rally. Izulde had 18 pts and 14 rebounds. February 12th Sam Houston State 72, Abilene Christian 64 - Vincent Harvey returned with a vengeance, putting up 33 pts on 12-18 shooting. Sadly, the rest of Abilene's squad went 8-35 from the field. Schaplowsky had 12 pts and 6 assists, but also 4 turnovers. Oral Roberts 90, Incarnate Word 60 - Incarnate falls behind in the conference race with a blowout loss to 7-2 Oral Roberts. Izulde had 16 pts, but it took him 17 shots to get there. Oral Roberts star SF Edmundo Flack torched IW for 32 pts and 11 rebounds. February 14th Abilene Christian 69, Stephen F. Austin 64 - Abilene dominates the first half, opening up a 39-18 halftime lead. A combination of Vincent's foul troubles and Schaplowsky's poor shooting (2-13) closed the gap, but SFA's rally ran out of time. Vincent had 17 pts and Mike had 11 assists. Incarnate Word 54, Southeastern Louisiana 53 - Very weird game in which Izulde Jestor was moved to Center after backup Lyle White went down with an injury. Izulde grabbed 12 rebounds, but was limited to 8 pts on 3-9 shooting. This game came down to free throws, with Abilene getting to the line 27 times (and hitting key ones at the end) versus 14 for SE LA. February 19th Abilene Christian 77, Oral Roberts 69 - Huge win for Abilene as they pull even with Oral Roberts in the conference race, both trailing Sam Houston St by 2 game, and they managed to do it with only 2 free throw attempts for the whole game (Oral had 23). Both teams had a solid shooting nights. The difference came with turnovers, has Abilene forced ORU into 24, while only committing 8 of their own. Schaplowsky had a terrific game with 18 pts and 15 assists, while Vincent added 22 pts and 9 rebs. Stephen F. Austin 58, Incarnate Word 42 - And Incarnate just can't catch a break. Just as Ginsberg returns for the first time in weeks, Izulde goes down and may miss the rest of the season. Ginsberg also has the worst game of his career, only managing 4 pts and 5 rebounds in 35 minutes. Izulde's 7 pts. actually led IW in scoring despite only playing for 8 minutes. SFA outscored IW 34-12 in the 2nd half. February 21st Abilene Christian 66, Central Arkansas 51 - Ugh. The FOFC injury curse continues as Vincent is injured 3 minutes into this one and also might miss the rest of the season. Schaplowsky still pulls through with a 16 pt, 10 assist, 4 steal performance and ACU easily dispatches a weak Central Arkansas squad. Incarnate Word 59, Texas A&M Corpus Christi 57 - It's a one man show as Ginsberg scores 39 pts (16-22 FG) if IW's 59 points, also adding 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocked shots. TAMCC made a late run and had a chance to win it with a 3 at the buzzer, but the shot rimmed out. February 26th Abilene Christian 85, SE Louisiana 69 - Mike Schaplowsky has his best game of the season, erupting for 32 pts and 11 assists. Abilene fed off his great play and shot 64.3% from the field and SE LA's 45.0% shooting wasn't enough to match that. Incarnate 55, Lamar 42 - Another one man show from Ginsberg as he scores 27 pts and grabs 14 rebounds. He did this on 8-11 shooting, while the rest of IW shot 8-23 from the field. Thankfully, Lamar had an even worse shooting night and Incarnate cruised to an easy victory. February 28th Abilene Christian 85, New Orleans 70 - UNO was now 0-27 on the season and once again they held a late lead, this time up 42-41 with 7:38 left. However, they once again fell apart at the end thanks to 21 turnovers and a terrible 14-26 performance from the line. Schaplowsky was all over the place with 21 pts, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. Sam Houston State 68, Incarnate Word 55 - SHS came into this one with two consecutive losses that erased their two game conference lead. An IW win would've brought them even with SHS and put them only 1 game back in the conference. Unfortunately, Ginsberg had an off shooting night, going only 9-27 from the field thanks to the efforts of Sam Houston's defensive specialist Alfonzo Rivera. Ginsberg did add 19 rebounds (7 on the offensive end) but got very little help from his teammates. *Vincent Harvey is still out for 31 days and Izulde Jestor is still out for 30 days, so neither will make it back this season unless Abilene or Incarnate goes on a tourney on. *Ginsberg is now 2nd in scoring, 3rd in rebounding, and 1st in blocks. Still has a massive lead in FTM and FTA. He also leads in MPG with 36.2. *Schaplowsky is 1st in assists and 2nd in steals. *Izulde is 10th in rebounding. Code:

March 5th
Abilene Christian 66, Lamar 54 - Schaplowsky has an off shooting night (7-21) but his 18pts, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds are still enough to hold off a Lamar squad that shot 34.1% from the field. With this victory, Abilene eliminates Incarnate from the regular season conference title race. Incarnate Word 56, Northwestern State 52 - Another dominant performance from Ginsberg helps Incarnate close out a strong regular season. Ginsberg had 27 pts and 19 rebounds, plus 4 free throws in the final 19 seconds to close it out. Championship: Sam Houston State at Incarnate Word This wasn't a matchup of two teams. It was a matchup between Sam Houston State and David Ginsberg. The rest of Incarnate shot 5-23 from the floor and scored only 18 pts. This wouldn't have been even close but for Ginsberg's stellar performance in the middle. Scoring 35 of his team's 53 pts, he kept Incarnate in the game all by himself and propelled them to an unlikely victory. Incarnate wins the Southland Conference Tourney and will be dancing! Code:

Round of 64 (13) Incarnate Word vs. (4) Arizona Another game in which Ginsberg scored more than half of his team's points. In fact, IW's lack of depth was so pronounced that Ginsberg had 18 of the team's 20 pts at the half. Unfortunately, Arizona had 50 at this point and there was no hope of a comeback. IW at least matched Arizona the rest of the way and Ginsberg's play helped prevent the beatdown from being as bad as it could've been. Code:

Incarnate Word 2015-16 Preview
Incarnate looks to be the better of our two teams at this point. Not only do they have the best of the FOFC players in Ginsberg, but they actually managed to recruit a decent PG in Merle Yuan, who has decent ball handling and very good outside shooting. Can sophomores Dick Dao and Fermin Bravo help him out in the backcourt? Incarnate starts the year ranked #16 in the Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. Code:

Abilene Christian 2015-2016 Preview
Abilene didn't have as much luck in the recruiting process and have some major weaknesses in the middle. Nielsen is given the SF spot and Harvey is moved to SG. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Dean Hoo (Grant Hill) arrives. Abilene has some terrific perimeter defense that should confound opponents. Code:

November Update
November 19 Abilene Christian 65, Cal Poly 55 - Abilene opens with a win and all FOFC players make double digits, but this was closer than expected and ACU's problems in the middle could spell trouble. Nielsen: 15 pts, 8 reb, 2 stl Harvey: 12 pts, 9 reb, 3 stl Schaplowsky: 16 pts, 10 ast, 5 stl November 21 UMBC 73, Abilene Christian 61 - This game is a warning that Abilene hasn't quite hit that next level yet. The big men were terrible once again, Rob had an off shooting night (3-12), and Vincent committed 6 turnovers. Nielsen: 11 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast Harvey: 21 pts, 7 reb, 3 ast Schaplowsky: 8 pts, 7 reb, 3 ast Incarnate Word 72, Ole Miss 64 - A huge statement to open the season with a win over a BCS school! Bafou was huge in his debut and the IW big three combined for 57 of the team's 72 pts. Ginsberg: 17 pts, 11 reb, 4 blk Bafou: 26 pts, 9 reb, 4 ast Jestor: 14 pts, 5 reb November 23 UTEP 84, Abilene Christian 77 - This time Abilene was done in by free throws. They only hit 5 of 10 FT's while UTEP got to the line 39 times and hit 27 of them. Both Harvey and Schaplowsky were limited to just 24 minutes due to foul trouble. Nielsen: 15 pts, 10 reb, 9 ast, 3 stl Harvey: 15 pts, 5 reb, 2 stl Schaplowsky: 13 pts, 8 ast November 25 Belmont 73, Abilene Christian 71 - This game once again came down to the wire, but Abilene got beat on the press and Nielsen was forced to foul with 1 second left to prevent a dunk. Both free throws were good. McKellar and Montalvo are once again a waste in the middle. Nielsen: 19 pts, 7 reb Harvey: 18 pts, 12 reb, 4 ast, 5 to Schaplowsky: 7 pts, 5 ast Incarnate Word 76, Portland 68 - Freshman PG Merle Yuan has disappointed so far, but the IW big three were dominant once again. IW shot 56% from the field and hit 26 free throws to 9 for Portland. Ginsberg: 28 pts, 7 reb, 3 blk Bafou: 16 pts, 5 reb Jestor: 11 pts, 12 reb *Incarnate Word received 20 pts in the Top 25 Poll and moved up to #7 in the Mid-Major poll. Code:

December Update
December 1 Utah State 81, Incarnate Word 66 - Poor shooting doomed Incarnate in this one. Bafou and Jestor combined to go 9-30 from the floor. 4th highest scorer on the team was Yuan with 7 pts. 5th highest was Dao with 2 pts. Ginsberg: 25 pts, 10 reb, 3 stl, 2 blk Bafou: 20 pts, 13 reb Jestor: 10 pts, 11 reb, 5 ast December 6 Incarnate Word 78, Texas Arlington 77 - Incarnate struggles to get a victory against a weak (0-5) Texas Arlington squad. This was mostly due to a terrible performance by Jestor and Bafou's foul trouble limiting him to 10 minutes. Ginsberg came through with a huge day. Ginsberg: 38 pts, 9 reb Bafou: 2 pts, 2 reb Jestor: 6 pts, 9 reb, 5 ast December 8 Abilene Christian 89, Dayton 83 - The FOFC three all have good games in this one. McKellar and Montalvo are still useless in the middle, but the FOFC perimeter D forced 24 turnovers. Nielsen: 21 pts, 8 reb, 4 ast, 3 stl Harvey: 19 pts, 5 reb, 3 stl Schaplowsky: 18 pts, 8 ast, 5 reb, 5 stl December 10 Abilene Christian 74, Texas Arlington 51 - Perhaps my call ont he strength of the two squads was incorrect. Abilene wins this one by 23, while Incarnate only beat the same foe by 1. The D forced 21 turnovers. Nielsen: 12 pts, 6 reb, 4 ast Harvey: 20 pts, 7 reb Schaplowsky: 18 pts, 12 ast, 3 stl December 13 Drake 67, Incarnate Word 57 - Incarnate drops the 3rd game out of the last 4. Ginsberg had a bad game from the floor and Jestor was doomed by foul trouble. IW only shot 34.9%. Ginsbeg: 13 pts, 14 reb, 3 ast, 2 blk Bafou: 23 pts, 10 reb, 3 ast, 2 blk Jestor: 0 pts, 6 reb, 3 stl December 17 Abilene Christian 76, Air Force 62 - Abilene wins their 3rd in a row behind an amazing game by Rob Nielsen. He thoroughly dominated Air Force on both the offensive and defensive ends. Nielsen: 30 pts, 15 reb, 4 ast, 5 stl, 2 blk Harvey: 8 pts, 10 reb Schaplowsky: 15 pts, 12 ast, 6 reb December 18 Baylor 57, Incarnate 37 - Incarnate gets destroyed by Baylor's dominant defense. IW shot 23.1% and didn't have a single player score in double digits. Ginsberg: 7 pts, 6 reb, 8 blk Bafou: 6 pts, 6 reb, 3 ast, 2 blk Jestor: 8 pts, 12 reb December 20 Abilene Christian 80, Montana 69 - This was closer than the score looked. What won the day for Abilene was precise shooting (51.7%) and a combined 49 pts from Schaplowsky and Harvey. Nielsen: 13 pts, 14 reb, 7 blk, 3 ast Harvey: 26 pts, 6 reb Schaplowsky: 26 pts, 6 ast, 5 reb December 21 Incarnate Word 79, UNC Wilmington 65 - Incarnate gets back on track as the big men dominate, leading to a 41-27 rebounding and 55.9-40.0 shooting advantage. Ginsberg: 26 pts, 9 reb, 2 ast, 3 blk Bafou: 22 pts, 8 reb Jestor: 14 pts, 12 reb, 7 ast December 24 Abilene Christian 60, Bradley 51 - It was a sloppy game for Abilene as they committed 21 turnovers, 14 of them coming from Schaplowsky and Harvey. But Nielsen's big day helped overcome the sloppiness and ACU shot 50% from the floor. Nielsen: 21 pts, 13 reb, 2 blk Harvey: 16 pts, 7 reb, 4 ast, 6 tov Schaplowsky: 10 pts, 6 ast, 4 stl December 25 Texas Tech 76, Incarnate Word 70 - Turnovers and free throws made the difference. The teams were pretty evenly matched everywhere else, but Tech had 6 fewer turnovers and hit 11 more free throws. Ginsberg: 22 pts, 17 reb Bafou: 9 pts, 3 rep (22 min) Jestor: 18 pts, 9 reb, 4 ast December 26 Arizona 91, Abilene Christian 70 - Abilene was only down by three at the half, but they had no chance in the 2nd half with Nielsen and Harvey in constant foul trouble. They were limited to a combined 27 minutes of play and Schaplowsky couldn't do it all by himself. (10) Incarnate Word vs. (7) Marquette Incarnate got off to a great start by racing out to an 11-2 lead, mostly on the strength of Izulde Jestor's great play. They held this lead throughout the first half, which ended with IW up 22-16. However, Marquette opened the 2nd half with an 11-0 run. Incarnate fought back, but suffered in the middle due to subpar games from both of their starting big men. IW retook the lead 49-48 with 7:29 left, but Marquette went on an 8-0 run. On to the next season! Finally, we will have a full assortment of players.
Incarnate seems to have had the best strategy so far and they're bringing in a dynamic PG to work with their big men. Abilene will have two SF's, one of which will surely move to PF and cause matchup problems for opposing defenses. |
Added some historical info in the first post, including team history and a listing of all the head to head matchups between Abilene and Incarnate.
