Congrats on the release!!!

WOOT WOOT WOOT
|
Awesome news!
|
Guys, here's excellent mod's done by our own Groundhog that will get you real logos and all international leagues - even if you want to do a historical sim, you can set these leagues to debut in the future.
Goose Juice Dot Com. *Also included is additional name files for players from more countries wowza. |
Note that you cannot just patch the beta demo. You will need the full version. The demo to retail patch only works for the demo posted today.
|
Can't wait to start playing!
|
The 'Add Player' button on the historical database editor doesn't seem to be working, HR (was trying to add Len Bias)
|
Quote:
Noted. Also figured I'd throw out that I'll update the db to include this season as soon as the regular season is over. |
Question, if I'm starting a league in 1950 with historical DB for my NBA, and ABA, when I get to these euro leagues I've d'led, should I make the player sources fictional or historic?
|
Any other leagues would be fictional. For now you'll only want to set one league under historical db. I need to add in the code that differentiates between the 2 US leagues but that will be on my list this week.
|
I notice the little flags next to the players name nice touch
|
Congrats on the release, HR. I'll buy a copy in the next day or so.
|
One more thing, HR-
Is there a way to tinker with the historical DB to add team names, even from 1946 and on? I'd like to be able to set these once, and not every time I create a new file. |
Starting in 1946 and I don't recognize anyone. This will be fun. This is like playing from 1900 in OOTP. I'm going to learn so much.
|
Quote:
The files are in the Historical Leagues folder in the main game folder under public documents. There is a csv file for each team that you can edit under North America. |
Quote:
Cool. I'm in the process of adding team names to each defunct, current, NBA, ABA and NBDL team in the DB. Really not time consuming at all and will add a lot to the immersion factor. Eventually it'd be nice to create individual logofile names and to add historical logos that would update automatically. Larger task, but very doable. :) |
Looking forward to picking this up tonight.
I've really enjoyed working on logos for FBCB2, and I suspect I'll be tempted to try to put together historical NBA logos for this one. Only downside is time spent working on logos is time not spent playing this or FBCB2 - dilemmas, dilemmas. Time allocation was simpler before marriage & kids... ;) |
I've edited the Historical Database to include accurate team nicknames from 1946-2012 for all three US leagues. I've also edited the 3 US leagues to have proper league names and abbreviations (NBA, NBDL, ABA)
Groundhog, could I email you the zip so you can host it? |
I've never played a FBPB game before, but i love the college game. I think I'll give this a try.
Historical really speaks to me, that sounds alot of fun. Any chance of a FOFC FBPB historical league?! |
No real Coaches and Overseas Leagues make Game to long to load. The DL's make Trades in season but But NBA Leagues only did in Preseason. Also Historical League 1979 Players didn't show up.
|
HR, my game is crashing at the FA stage. FWIW, tried to 'Proceed' with 8 guys under contract. Is that the issue?
|
That specifically shouldnt cause an issue. If you send me the save ill work it out.
|
Quote:
Started in 1946, same for me ,when you click on proceed after FA period is over. |
Just purchased and played the first month of the 1980 season with Boston and things are looking good. Adrian Dantley with 2 of the first 5 player of the week awards (won the player of the month award as well) and is averaging 41.5 points for the first month (of course his team is not very good at 3-12 or something). Team records and scores are on par with the time-frame. I haven't checked the instructions, but I was wondering about Training Camp. I remember seeing a notice, but don't remember seeing where I could access it (or when exactly it was--I was probably too eager to see some season games). Anyway, very happy with this.
|
Quote:
I started in 1946, too - but I fastsimmed to 1955 with no problem. My first actual FA period where I was playing was when it crashed. Sounds like a universal bug? |
Quote:
Weird that didn't pop up before but I can repeat the error so fix will be posted in a bit. |
Quote:
I also started a league in 49-50 and had the same thing happen at the end of the first FA period. Then I tested with Finances off and it was smooth sailing. |
Also Draft Picks should have to be signed after Draft and not go right to Roster and also not be cut at the end of Training Camp but sent to your DL Team.
Also if you win the NBA Championship and lets say Dwight Howard is on your Team and is to become a Free Agent your Team Should try and resign him and if he signs with another team gets your Team gets a Draft Pick in return. Also no Rookie or Free Agent Camp and Coaches/Staff Hirings should happen all Offseason and so should signing Free-Agents like in OTTP and Franchise Hockey Manager. |
Quote:
Seems like it affects historical leagues started prior to 1959 and will only happen if you have an active human team. |
The game could be revolting at the idea of free agency in the 1950s... :p
|
To avoid the crash, I fastsimmed past FA and picked up a team at the beginning of Preseason. My team had 19 guys on the roster, I autoset my depth chart and when I clicked to Gameplan I got a RTE.
|
I've got some ideas on the free agency thing which I think might work ok with multiple leagues to simulate the ABA NBA relationship. Basically it would make it so if you disable free agency then you have exclusive negotiating rights with the player for your league until the next offseason. However, teams from the other league would be able to attempt to sign the player. If the player sits in free agency all season they would be able to sign with a new team the following season. Thoughts?

Nvm I found it. |
Here's a fix for the early issues:

Hiring Staff/Coaches if you have more then one League active all done at once.
|
Quote:
Please be more specific. Error? What type of setup are you using? |
Quote:
The self extractor is putting the files in program files instead of program files (x86) . |
Quote:
Is your version saying Version 3.0.1:? |
Quote:
Fixed on my end. |
Quote:
Until I can find a better self extractor that can determine if you are using 64 bit or 32 bit Windows, (x86) will need to be added if you are on 64 bit. I've got one I'm looking into but haven't had a chance to figure out exactly how it works. |
And mental note...have Korme try out the full beta next time as he is especially talented at finding things I have broken.
|
First, congrats on the release! Bought it the second I saw it was available.
One thing I noticed in the demo, and in the first few seasons I've sped through to look at the engine, draft, etc: The best shooters in the league are too high percentage wise from 3, with routinely having 1 or 2 (more than a few times) shooting over 50% and with a LOT of attempts a game. And team wise, the stats seem right on line, and I think this is because too many poor three point shooters take 1 or 2 threes a game. Mainly big men that will shoot 19% on 100-150 attempts a season. That's even worse than Zach Randolph used to do for the Blazers and the Knicks! |
I'm having a bit of a problem. I installed the game and when I click on it to run it I get an 'unexpected error' then it boots me out. I did update to 3.0.0.1 but am still getting the same error. I didn't have any problems running the demo. I'm using Windows 7, but I'm running it through parallels on my IMac. I really don't know what's going on. It's installed into the x86 directory.
|
Does the demo version act the same? That will most likely tell us if it something with Elicense or the game itself. Also make sure you are running as admin and if that doesn't work then try this:
1. Right-click on "My Computer" 2. Select "Properties" 3. Click on the "Advanced" Tab. 4. Click on the Performance "Settings" Button 5. Click on the "Data Execution Prevention" Tab 6. Verify that "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only" is selected. If it is not, select that option and click "APPLY" and then try and run the game. Note: Even if you see that option checked already, go ahead and uncheck and then recheck it to ensure that its activated! 7. If the problem persists, go back and select the other option "turn on DEP for all windows programs and services EXCEPT those I select" and ADD the following files: "runservice.exe" Will be found in C:\Windows "FPBP3.exe" Normally found in C:\Program Files\GDS\Fast Break Pro Basketball 3 or C:\Program Files (x86)\GDS\Fast Break Pro Basketball 3 9. Click APPLY then Reboot and then relaunch the game. |
Quote:
I'll take a look. That was one area where my gut was telling me there needed to be some more tweaks at some point. |
Quote:
I think the game is taking the 3PT rating TOO seriously. Any big man with a rating above 0 is taking too many three point shots, from what I've gathered. It's the guys that are rated 10-25 on 3PT that are really skewing the averages, I think. |
Yes it is but still get run 9 Error around Rookie Draft or Draft Lottery and also I notice no Trades happen at Draft and no Top Players Available and so on Draft Screen and because I have a couple of Leagues active would like to combined Drafts
|
Loving the game so far.
|
Quote:
What setup are you using? You have multiple leagues so send me any league files you are using that aren't included with the game and one of your saves and I'll try to duplicate the issue so I can fix it. |
Great work! Takes me back to the feeling I had when I was a little kid playing the first FBB. Very happy to be playing this!
|
Anyone looking to use the foreign leagues I setup, the best results IMO are to have them come active around 1980, set the prestige to the lowest setting for each, and have no more than 3-4 active. Set the salary cap to around 70k for 1980 with inflation enabled, which will bring it up to a couple of million by the current year.
I usually run with Spain, France, Italy, and Turkey, which leads to more NBA players from those nations. |
Quote:
Ok, To answer some questions: - Demo works fine, never had any issues - FBCB works fine, although when I tried step 7 FBCB stopped working. I checked the DEP tab and it was on, I tried step 9 and it didn't fix the problem. Also I double checked and it is set for run as admin. |
Do a full uninstall of the pro game. Make sure none of its folders are left. I remember someone recently had the same issue with FBCB and the full reinstall took care of it. Also make sure you run as admin when running the install file as well.
|
Quote:
Holy smokes, got it going. I think it was the installation of a new update for Parallels that finally did it. Or cursing, one or the other. Thanks as always for your quick support. You are really top flight when it comes to that. |
Congratulations, Brian!
|
After the ABA ceases to exist, it's impossible to bring up any of it's history.
|
Quote:
lol deal. Thoughts on coach generation, since most coaches seem to be former players, is there a way to have that happen in a future build? |
FYI, stay away from the "Offer Desired" button on the player contract negotiations screen.
Quote:
It must not be adding the league to the league drop down. I'll get it sorted out. |
Quote:
Yes. Its been on my list but I haven't gotten to it yet. |
When editing the historical DB, in this case adding a new player, adding a number to the DOB year column produces a -14 when tabbing or moving on to the next data entry.
Adding a season's worth of stats also seems to be broken in that regard. |
$7.49 tickets to see the Celtics in 1976? Son of a...
General question to those who start without nicknames, how do you know which NY team is which when you start in 1976? Both say New York at job option screen. |
Groundhog, get in touch with me so I can get you those nickname files.
|
Thanks for the release HR, you're the hardest working guy in the business these days and I'm glad to buy this game from you.
|
Boxscores don't seem to be showing up when I double click on my team's games (Started 1946, current 1980 if that helps, don't know if it's like this from the start or not)
|
Is this on any screen or a specific one?
|
Quote:
+1 |
Another boxscore related issue I forgot to mention earlier - when viewing all-star game results from the archive screen, if you view the all-star game box of another league it always shows the NBA league. 'NBA' may be a coincidence - either way, only one league's all-star game box shows up for all leagues.

Downloading now!
Can't wait to see how people decide to play the game in regards to financials and how many people do fictional versus historical. |
Quote:
I looked for that one for a while but never figured it out. Now it all makes sense. |
Fictional all the way here.
|
In the 1979 historical draft Billy Ray Bates is listed twice.
Once as Billyray Bates and once as Billy Ray Bates |
The problem with selecting fictional database for the ABA is that it generates way too many good players for the merger. By the 80s, there are tons of green/blue guys who are completely fictional, making for some strange careers for some more relatively great players (Bob McAdoo started one season his whole career).
Also might need to have the cpu let starters play more than 1 position on the depth chart. Currently the starting C only plays C, and so on. More realistically we'll have C/PF, PF/C, PF/SF, SF/PF, SF/SG, SG/SF, SG/PG, PG/SG |
If you're going fictional I definitely recommend you import FBCB draft classes. It's so cool looking back over player achievements dating back to their recruit rankings out of High School up until they retire from the NBA.
|
Quote:
From at least the Hot Seat and Team Schedule screen |
Quote:
This is literally the only reason I was excited for this game. FBCB is one of my favorites, but I'd always get bored after a while because I couldn't follow their careers. Having the pro game connected will make it so much better. |
Congrats on the release! I'm giving the demo a try but I'm almost certain I'll pick up the full game in the next few weeks.
|
Congratulations HR! Looking forward to getting into this when I have the money.
|
Lost in the finals, this game sucks... lol
|
Quote:
I haven't got it yet but I am going to when I get a couple of days off to dig into it. Likely next week... |
Just took the plunge. Excited!
|
Quote:
Right. I think part of the problem here is we've already sucked all the good players into a smaller pool of teams. So adding in even more creates an overflow. I just need to go in and work out which abbreviations correspond to which leagues in which seasons and then I'll be able to enable the drop downs to select which league you are pulling from as well as making the league selector function in the database screen. |
Paul Arizons ratings seem to be off, he doesn't get drafted.
Having a blast with the game ,great job HR. |
Quote:
I'm running a test league to get to that point just to see if it is somehow historical league related. I don't see anything obvious in the code so it wouldn't hurt to make a backup of your save in case I need to take a look. |
Quote:
From the Archive screen, one of the drop-down selections for a league is to list all players which (I believe) will list every player who has logged time in that league? With the old FBB I used to generate HTML at the end of every season and archive it so I could look up retired players, so this is a huge feature for me, especially if you like to quick-sim history for your leagues. |
Finally won the title. You remember that Celtics team with Cartwright, McHale, King, W Davis, and Moncrief in 1984.
Scoring might be a little high in the game as we have scored over 145 twenty three times in 9 years. |
AI might be overvaluing 2nd round picks in the current season. At the draft, I was able to swing a current 2nd rounder for a next season 1st rounder nearly every time, to the point where I built up about 15 1st rounders in one season.
Seriously, look at this roster I assembled in 3 seasons simply by trading 2nd rounders for 1st rounders... the last draft I literally traded the Knicks 7 1st rounders for one of their 2nd rounders just because I had way too many. Code:
Houston Rockets General It's my test sim... lay off :) |
Finance screen is also drawing a completely blank screen, even blanking out the sidebar links.
|
Still having trouble duplicating any issues with getting the box scores to come up on either the Hot Seat or Team Schedule screens. Anyone else having an issue with this?
|
Quote:
Actually that information probably solves the box issue as well. The chart component didn't load properly. Try searching your computer for RMChart.ocx then run it with regsvr32. In my case I put this in the run bar: regsvr32 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\RMChart.ocx Alternatively you could reinstall and make sure you run the install as admin but make sure you back up any changes made to the Historical Leagues and Historical DB. |
Quote:
I tweaked the pick values in future years. This should be much more unlikely now. |
Quote:
What sort of pace were you running? I might need to tone down the highest paces a bit more. |
Wasnt 1984 one of those fast pace years where everyone scored. Also I think when generating the players rebounding ratings in the 60's their rebounds may be a little low since players dont really reach the normal averages of that era.
|
Quote:
I moved him to SF in the DB which does help. I'll also look at some tweaks for some of the early ratings. I'm wondering if the code that deals with not having steal, block, and turnover stats is causing an issue there as well. |
Quote:
Nuggets led the league at 120 ppg that year with a league average of 110. |
Manute Bol is age 0 in all the seasons he is in.
|
Attendance figures are perfectly static in '46--I'm getting 1332 fans at every home game. Seems to be the same at road venues, too.
|
Also, had no trades in '46, though I don't know if that's a function of the entire league being crappy.
|
Quote:
Looks like he got hit by the bug that was setting birth year to -14. Fixed for the next posted build. |
