Back to the Future (Night 12 Deadline: Tuesday 10 PM EST)

We need to get another one kicked off. I will take the weekend to post the details but the basic idea is Marty McFly heading into the past with an update. Since we are as far from the 80's as he was from the 50's... he's going back to the 80's so expect plenty of nostalgia posts.

I have no clue if this will take off but I figure it's worth a shot.

EagleFan 09-07-2013 08:15 PM

General Rules

- One deadline Game; Deadline: 10 PM EST

- Weekdays only

- Have fun but don't be a douche

- Active participation encouraged; remember, if you don't post you aren't doing anyone a favor and are making what could be a fun game boring

Voting & Night Actions

- Place your votes in bold on a separate post with no other comments; if you are giving commentary about your vote please do that on a separate post

- Votes and night actions time stamped 10:00 will count, 10:01 won't

- Not voting during a day will be considered 3 votes for yourself

Tie Votes

- First tie lynch vote will result in a random kill of one of the people who voted for those tied for lynch lead

- Second tie lynch vote will result in two random kills from the people who voted for those tied for lynch lead; or if only villagers fall into that group it will be one person from that group and one random wolf being killed (to keep it from a strategy)

- Third tie results in a mass lynching of everyone and I will be declared the winner

Posting

- NO posting is allowed after I have declared deadline until I have declared the next day will begin; if you post trying to sneak something in after deadline but before results "in case you are killed" it will result in a random player from your side also being killed that day; if you didn't have the guts to post it before deadline don't take the chickensh*t way out

- Keep it civil; one warning will be issued if things get too personal; if someone persists after that warning they will be removed from the game; it's a game, treat it that way

Winning Conditions

- Village wins if all wolves are eliminated (even if third party remains) and gaining even ratio (or better) with the Koranian Nationals

- Wolves win if all the Koranian Nationals are eliminated and gaining a even ratio with the village (or better); the exception will be detailed in the hunter role, if exists

- The Koranian Nationals wins is all village is eliminated and gaining even ratio (or better) with wolves

EagleFan 09-07-2013 08:15 PM

Village

Marty McFly - You are the 'hero' of the story. A freak accident caused you to travel back in time (to a date that will be revealed at the start of the game) and you have encountered your parents, before they were your parents. Your actions may affect the future so be careful. Can scan for Biff's Bullies in the past.

Doc Brown - You are the accidental hero of the story. A bad decision by you starts a potentially tragic chain of events. Uses an invention the protectotron in the past to protect someone at night.

Jennifer Parker - The girl that puts that special twinkle in Marty's eye. Can pass notes to Marty in present day. In future is a semi-lover role that can pass notes and Marty will lose powers if she is killed or removed.

George McFly - Marty's father, will his life change?

Wolves

Biff Tannen - The bully of all bullies. He is a brutal wolf.

Unknown Accomplices - Bullies need their lackeys.

Koranian Nationals

Koranian Leader - The leader of our fictional country which is known to want to conquer the world and is victim of a crime as plutonium has been stolen from them. You are the brutal for your group.

Followers - Tyrants need their subservient followers.

Items

Plutonium - How else are you going to get 1.21 gigawatts of power. Bullies gain ability to force doc to shift time whenever they want if they gain possession of it. Koranians can make a dirty bomb with it in the future if they gain possession of it. Citizens can use it to attempt to 'bribe' a terrorist (scan).

Skateboard - May be useful to escape.

Potential Powers

Cunning - Unable to be scanned

Brutal - Take someone with you

Protect - Protect Someone

Pass Notes - Pass a note through me to the intended target, if you are given the ability

Convert - Convince someone to take your side

Sympathize - Be an unofficial member of a team, you just really want them to win

Kill - Make someone be no longer

LOL, add DaddyTorgo to the list who still have their GoT characters in sigs.

Sadly, I just can't make any kind of WW time commitment these days. The new job is an absolute time thief relative to my WW hours. But would love to see the gang still playing here, as their is a certain nostalgic wistfulness when I read along with the games that just doesn't translate to the BGG WW forum.

Barkeep49 09-14-2013 08:44 PM

Nice to see a game going.

JAG 09-14-2013 08:55 PM

I'll play. Not going to be as active as I've been, but won't be at the getting three votes for myself level either. I'm going to get a lot of lightning bolts from the mod about writing commentary in a post with a vote, so please be ready to harness that for the 1.21 gigawatts needed to power the DeLorean.

EagleFan 09-15-2013 05:50 PM

I will start sending out roles shortly. The powers of the "village" will be unknown but as the story unfolds they will become known.

This will not be your typical werewolf game. I hope to make it as entertaining for all that are playing as possible. EVERYONE will be able to affect the outcome of this game in one manner or another in how they affect the story as it unfolds.

Vanilla villager checking in.

EagleFan 09-15-2013 07:53 PM

Welcome to Anytown USA; a small nondescript Midwestern town. Life looks to be normal as you go about your daily lives. What you don't know is what the next 24 hours may bring to your town, your past and your future.

Nothing out of the ordinary happens as you have a Starbucks Coffee and see the kids listening to music on their smartphones as they get dropped off at school.

The town is preparing for a yearly festival to remember the day the old library burnt down when struck by lightning. All that remains is a clock which was high above the town on the sole remaining piece of the library, a brick chimney that still has an ashen discoloration from that fateful day.

No one knows what lies ahead of just how the future... and history... may change.

GAME ON

EagleFan 09-15-2013 09:30 PM

JAG 09-15-2013 09:38 PM

Kind of an unusual one in that the wolves aren't trying to eliminate the villagers, other than removing enough to get parity. On the other hand, the Koranians need to eliminate all villagers. Because they have to get rid of (presumably) so many villagers and would seem to otherwise have a big uphill battle in that regard, I wonder if we might have unbalanced teams, like say 8 villagers 5 Koranians 3 wolves.

EagleFan 09-15-2013 09:43 PM

Movie Trivie

In the opening sequence, all of Doc's clocks read 7:53 (25 minutes slow) except for one clock. It is on the floor next to the case of plutonium and it reads 8:20. There's also a black and white picture of a man hanging on the town hall clock of Hills Valley, the way it happened right before the lightning strikes it in 1955.

The time machine has been through several variations. In the first draft of the screenplay the time machine was a laser device that was housed in a room. At the end of the first draft the device was attached to a refrigerator and taken to an atomic bomb test. Robert Zemeckis said in an interview that the idea was scrapped because he and Steven Spielberg did not want children to start climbing into refrigerators and getting trapped inside. (See also Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.) The Nevada desert bomb test was left out in order to reduce the budget. In the third draft of the film the time machine was a DeLorean, but in order to send Marty back to the future the vehicle had to drive the DeLorean into an atomic bomb test.

The script never called for Marty to repeatedly bang his head on the gull-wing door of the DeLorean; this was improvised during filming as the door mechanism became faulty.

Canadian pop singer Corey Hart was asked to screen test for the part of Marty.

Apparently Ronald Reagan was amused by Doc Brown's disbelief that an actor like him could become president, so much so that he had the projectionist stop and replay the scene. He also seemed to enjoy it so much that he even made a direct reference of the film in his 1986 State of the Union address: "As they said in the film Back to the Future, 'Where we're going, we don't need roads.'"

When Lorraine follows Marty back to Doc's house, she and Doc exchange an awkward greeting. This marks the only on-screen dialogue that Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson ever have, though they have appeared together in five movies and one TV movie.

EagleFan 09-15-2013 09:46 PM

Our sources have confirmed that a known Koranian operative has been spotted in the area. His current whereabouts is unknown but the terror threat level has risen.

All citizens are encouraged to be on the lookout for suspicious activity. Report any unattended packages to authorities. Please continue to live your lives as normal, the NSA promises that they will not allow this threat to get in the way of snooping on your internet activities. In fact they feel that it may help them find the terror cells if they know that you were recently searching EDS, Viagra, Inflatable Dolls and Super Glue (ed. You Sick Bast*rds).

Checking in. Got my PM, but I was out all day yesterday, and my son is home sick today, so I have no idea what's happening yet. I will start catching up and post when I can.

Autumn 09-16-2013 08:07 AM

So a strange triangle set up. The village wants to get rid of the wolves. The wolves want to get rid of the Koranians. The Koranians want to get rid of the village. So in fact the allies of each group is also their enemmy. We are not so much worried about the Koranians, but they're out to get us. I'm curious to see how these dynamics work out.

I hope everyone notes the "you must vote" rule. I like that it's going to discourage people not showing up.

I was thinking something like that. But then consider that to get parity with the village is still a pretty big number of kills, so I think the two are about even.

Let's say it's 10:3:3. The wolves would have to kill 3 Koranians and 7 villagers. The Koranians would have to kill 10 villagers. So I'd guess the numbers are just about even. Not sure if it's 10:3:3 though. This is a bit like my Vegas game where it was hard to know at what point to drop down to two. Might be 12:2:2, but having to kill 12 would be pretty tough for those groups.

It's going to depend a lot on what type of abilities the three groups have as to how many of each there are, so it's almost like throwing darts at the wall at this point. If both wolves and third parties can night kill, then I could maybe get behind 12-2-2, though that still seems like a steep uphill climb for the Koranians. But that could mean two lucky lynches and game over, so it doesn't seem so likely. If only one side can regularly night kill and the other side gets some special kill mechanisms, then I think unbalanced groups are more likely.

Not that revealing, but something to kill time until we get more votes.

The Jackal 09-16-2013 09:49 AM

I don't know anything about BTTF (definitely in the top 3 of movies I need to watch that people want to slap me for), but hopefully that won't put me at too much of a disadvantage.

We'll have to see how the unknown powers work out, usually makes for an interesting/more challenging endgame. Also applaud the way the rules are formatted to encourage participation.

I assume there's going to be some version of time travel within the game?

The Jackal 09-16-2013 09:51 AM

I tend to doubt there will regularly be more than one kill on a night - I think it will probably be with the wolves and if they are eliminated then the Koranians would gain the ability. Though I'm sure there are one-offs like brutals or specific powers perhaps relating to the plutonium.

Doesn't look like there's any indication of how the items work? So it could have already been a N0 random, or a N1 random, or triggered by something else. I would imagine it's in our best interest to keep the plutonium out of the wolves, and from the flavor of the roles, especially the Koranian's hands

Autumn 09-16-2013 10:25 AM

Jackal, my assumption involving time travel is that at some point we will be all transported back to the past. The focus of the movie is going back and then trying to make sure you don't screw up the future, so probably actions while in the past will have an effect on the "present". And I would guess there are things that must be accomplished to return us to the present. I can't remember the plot of the future movie, but possible we will travel to the future as well. These may either be BullMoose specials or in control of some of the characters.

Autumn 09-16-2013 10:26 AM

And yeah, I assume a big deal is to keep the plutonium out of the Koranian's hands.

Just catching up, folks. :D

Chief Rum 09-16-2013 11:45 AM

I see some suggestions that the Koranians and wolves might have the same number of players. That seems unlikely considering it is a win condition for the Koranians to get even numbers with the wolves.

I would guess the size breakdown will be villagers, then wolves, then Koranians.

My personal guess here would be 10 villagers, 4 wolves, 2 Koranians.

Stop the Terrorists

A vocal and well known resident Biff Tennen has come out to issue a warning to anyone that may try to harm HIS town. He has made this town to be what it is today through what some consider strong armed tactics but he has also become quite protective of what he feels is rightly his.

Many of you have grown up with Biff and there are numerous stories about what he did to those he saw as weak. He owns much of the town thanks to some underhanded tactics and what amounts to extremely good luck at sports gambling. Every resident has a story to tell about what happens when he feels that someone has crossed him.

He has issued a warning that if issued by others would cause a smirk and be quickly forgotten. With Biff's name attached everyone is taking notice. Some are worried that this could turn your once peaceful town into an unlawful wild west of vigilante justice. Hopefully a peaceful solution can be reached.

We'll have to see how the unknown powers work out, usually makes for an interesting/more challenging endgame. Also applaud the way the rules are formatted to encourage participation.

I assume there's going to be some version of time travel within the game?

Shouldn't need to know much about the movie to follow along. This will have a little flavor of the movie but not be something that falls directly in line with it.

That seems as good a reason as any to...

I don't see that as a reason to vote for GE, as I believe villager powers are added or subtracted as we travel through time.

Or it is because it is day one and there is no reason for anything.
