NFL Week 8
Who do you have for tonight's game?
|
Phins!
|
Pats 37-14.
Dolphins have looked pretty damn good, but against Tennessee and Houston. Tom Teriffic brings Campbell back down to Earth. |
Mini-Patriots 24
Dolphins 14 |
I think the Patriots win by a bunch, but I hope the Dolphins win.

Joseph Randle of Dallas Cowboys facing discipline for violating personal conduct policy
How are we just hearing about this now? |
Quote:
Umm ... from Feb Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle arrested again edit to add: And, as I thought ... I posted the story in the off-season thread here as well http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/...&postcount=610 |
I would love a Phins win here.

|
Hardy and Randle, perfect together.
|
I think Miami will play well tonight, but ultimately they will lose a shootout. I think 38-27 or something in that vein is about what I would expect.
|
Hmmm, Bill Bilicheck vs dude who doesn't know how to call timeouts....
Miami 27, NE 17 |
Quote:
(and I'm a little surprised you skipped throwing Dez in there as well) |
Good start so far
edit: We have GRONKage |
Dola: Well, that was.. um.. certainly something by the Dolphins.
|
How the f' is Tannehill a starting Qb in the NFL for what three years now!?
|
I think you have to put a good amount of blame for the pick from Tanneehill on the receiver. He's supposed to be running an out route, makes his cut at the 36 yard line but ends up at the 41 when the ball is picked. That's not how you run an out route.
|
This is riveting. Pats games have as much suspense as seeing if Gilligan gets off the island.
|
You have to play like the Pats to beat the Pats. Throw accurate 10-15 yard passes. Run only enough to keep the defense honest
|
Kinda says something when Pats fans are actively grumpy about the first half offense... and they scored 19 points.
|
Miami got away from what got them here? Where exactly is here?
|
Heh. Yeah, caught that too.
|
A Miami touchdown drive here could make this a bit more interesting.
|
EagleFan, they're not getting off the island.
|
Hurry Up mode, up 22 with 9:00 to play? I joked about the NFL upping their claims in DeflateGate this week pissing the pats off even more.. but apparently Eff You Mode is fully engaged.

Deep down I knew... if only they weren't tricked by George Barkley. |

Sort of like OJ Simpson acting pissed off that he was accused of something... |
Rooting for the Pats seems like rooting for the Red Army.
|
Quote:
That's an insult to the Red Army... :D |
Like rooting for the zombies?
|
|
Like rooting for Watson.

Quote:
It's not that. I'm stealing this from elsewhere (I think Grantland), but the Patriots simply iterate faster than any other team in the NFL. If one thing doesn't work, they try the next thing, if that doesn't work they try another variation, etc.... Your chances boil down to either a) do something they simply can't counter (like obliterate the O-Line and give Brady literally no time with the ball or b) try to iterate faster than the Patriots while also committing no mistakes. The way they're playing right now (which can't last, IMO), it's just really, really tough. |
The Jags haven't had a receiver with 1000 yards in a season since Jimmy Smith in 2005. As of 7 games, they have two at 500+, and could have two this year! :0
|
Quote:
I think this is more accurate. The Pats are definitely the top of the hill especially on the passing side of the offense right now but they are hardly obliterating opponents like back in 2007. They are beatable but only by a handful of teams and only on the road. I think even this early if they get home field in the playoffs they are easily going to run to the SB. I think if they have to play on the road against a very good defense they can be tripped up. That being said and looking at their schedule they may have two losses on the remaining games of their schedule. I think Denver and Cincy wind up with at least 3 losses so...... |
Man I hope I'm wrong but I can see the Giants getting embarrassed (again) by the Saints this week.
|
Hopefully the Pats are peaking too early.
|
|
Quote:
Yeah which Saints are they gonna face-first few weeks or last couple? |
Quote:
I kinda feel like the Saints are closer to the last few weeks than the first few. But it seems the Giants are great at making mediocre QBs look solid, so that worries me if Brees is actually getting his rhythm back. And that also scares me as the Giants have absolutely no passrush. Like they might as well stop trying and just drop everybody into coverage. Plus Prince is still out I think so they are not much better at covering as they are at passrushing. Add in the bad offensive showings they've had the past 2 weeks (Dallas score was deceptive...they did nothing offensively vs Dallas or Philly) and things could get awfully messy, awfully quickly for the G-men. |
Quote:
With the way the Giants have been playing, I wouldn't be surprised if New Orleans and Tampa Bay embarrassed them in the next two weeks, but somehow end up beating New England in week 10. |

Quote:
Lol yeah agree on both. I'll be at the Bucs/Giants game. I'm just hoping there is no doubt which team is using a rookie QB when I leave that game. |
Quote:
I will actually be in the stadium that day. If it happens there, I will laugh my ass off. |
Sorry Australia/Rugby fans:
49ers Promote RB Kendall Gaskins to Active Roster, Waive RB Jarryd Hayne |
Really don't understand that move, to be honest. He's shown flashes of brilliance, and the team honestly doesn't have much to be happy about. I know they may need the roster spot with Hyde unavailable due to the stress fracture, but he's arguably the most visible player on the team in terms of a positive light.
That being said, he sucks at blocking and has trouble holding on to the ball, so hard to argue about getting rid of him outside of that. |
Wow, the Lions are terrible. Not sure how Jim Caldwell is still employed after this week, let alone this season.
|
Lions offense playing as if their coordinator's name is Jim Bob Cooter...
|
Let's go Cards!
|
You can't give up 45 points to a Chiefs team led by Alex Smith and keep your job.
I fully expect Caldwell to be fired sometime in 2018 per the Ford family mantra. Too bad the ownership can't be fired too. |
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Lions offensive coordinator wasn't the only problem there.
|
Looks like Bell is seriously interested for the Steelers
|
Quote:
Yea. That looks like a season ender. |
Dalton looking Dalton-esque.
He's not getting any time, but time to check to some short throws or something. |
Why aren't they running more? Hill has been really effective, but the RBs only have three carries.
|
I love your Todd Gurley.. man crush alert!
|
Quote:
Yeah, went to the game and they were just not on it, no crispness in the routes of the receivers, no fire in the D,it felt like they were going throught the motions. |
Bengals are Bengaling this game away. As per usual
|
Ugggh, did we just see Steve Smith's career end? :(
|
Steve Smith's career might be over after an injury-had to be helped off the field and to the locker room-no weight on his leg.
|
Weeks like this are when football sucks. Seems like a ton of injuries to starting players today so far.
|
Quote:
Beat me to it, but I think so :( |
Eli Manning, 29 for 38, 345 yards, 6 TDs
Drew Brees, 29 for 36, 414 yards, 6 TDs, 1 INT I don't think I've ever seen the Giants play in this type of shootout before. It's been insane. |
dola,
Score is 42-42. 1 more TD and the game enters the top 10 highest scoring games in NFL history (if the wikipedia page is accurate (misread it. They need to get to 95 to tie for the top 10. I didn't notice that the page listed 13 games, not 10)) |
Giants have one or two pick sixes today?
|
Of course it only takes a minute. Fumble by Saints returned for a TD by Giants. 13th touchdown scored in the game, the first TD that wasn't a passing TD.
|
They said it was scored as a fumble, but that didn't look like it satisfied the rules for a catch, to me. Looked more like an INT.
|
Quote:
I thought the same thing. |
Too bad the NFL doesn't have college OT rules.. this Saints-Giants game could have been the highest scoring football game of the year (beating all the college games and all the Arena football games
|
The Giants are perfectly set up to do something stupid and lose the game. Let's see if they follow through.
|
Quote:
Called it. |
Why would you ever punt that in bounds? Never mind the low line drive, assuming he wasn't told to punt out of bounds I would be firing the special teams coach if they lose this
|
Quote:
You were right :p |
Quote:
But found a way to get it done again. |
In today's edition of "who knows what the fuck a catch is in the NFL", please welcome Darren McFadden of the Cowboys!
|
Quote:
Looks like its over. :( Achilles injury. I'm not a big fan of his often-times juvenile antics on and off the field, but a big fan of his talent and ability-he will be missed. |
Quote:
whew-early on looked like it was going to be a horrible loss, but they head into a much needed bye week with a win and and at least a two-game lead over the rest of the division. |
Cant believe Forbath has bounced around like he has. I know the Skins cut him, not because he couldn't kick FG's, but because he didnt get enough TB's.
|
Quote:
Nobody's more surprised than I am. Defense really buckled down in the second half and kept them in the game. That was pretty great. |
Quote:
Offensive line improved hugely in the second half too. Though I have the feeling if Bell hadn't been injured, would not have been close to winning that game with the way the offense played. |
Quote:
Yep I was thinking the same thing at about that time. Its like their goal is to do just enough to be able to say "well it was close but we didn't make enough plays. We need to get better and ready [to do the same thing] next week" And holy crap they need to find someone tbat wants to get to the QB. |
Quote:
Because they're the Giants and they find ways to continually screw up situational plays. They are the anti-Pats in that regard. |
Quote:
Yeah I don't know how that's considered a catch given the current state of the way they are ruled. Also pisses me off because I have Snead on my fantasy team and could really use those 2 points back. |
Hardy hobbling off the field just seems like a win for karma.
|
That was a brutal hit
|
Very brutal
|
Would have like to see him moving his feet a little.
|
Quote:
But well within the rules. Sucks he got hurt that bad on it. |
Quote:
Didn't see anyone say that it wasn't. |
Quote:
the ref did...incorrectly too! |
The refs called it a blind side hit, but they were about 5 yards apart when they both lined up for the hit
|
Quote:
Then he should have quoted the ref... |
Quote:
Responded to the most recent comment which was yours. Sorry for breaking Internet message board conventions. |
Geno Smith isn't helping, but this is two weeks in a row Todd Bowles has shown no urgency and very questionable end of game timeout usage in games that they could have come back in.
|
Clock. Management.
|
The call on that last play of the SEA-DAL game pretty much sums up how I have watched the games today. Not really sure what the rules are that govern that play and if they are being applied correctly.
|
What do they consider control? He had no control of that ball, it was merely resting on his hand at that point.
