Quitting Smokeless: Revisited

Many of you know I've tried to tackle this terrible and disgusting habit. Well, once again I quit prior to 2007 and today is:

Day 9

Please follow along as my goal is 100 days and from there I hope to be done for good.

I'm heading over to my Dad's today which is a trigger for me as I know he loves to shove beer in my face. :) Good thing is, I'm leaving my wallet at home, minus my driver's license.

Eaglesfan27 01-07-2007 12:08 PM

Good luck, Todd. I'm pulling for you. :)

Thanks EF! The day went well, couple of craves, but double bubble handled them quite well. :D

Emiliano 01-07-2007 05:57 PM

Come on Todd! You can do it.

Day 10

Feeling absolutely great today!!

MizzouRah 01-09-2007 12:36 PM

Day 11

Really rough last night, today has been fine however.

Eaglesfan27 01-09-2007 03:31 PM

Good job working through the rough night.

Ksyrup 01-09-2007 03:34 PM

What specifically are you doing to help yourself stop? Never been into this stuff or smoking, but as far as my diet goes, I've been relying heavily on mints the past few months. Anything like that helping to keep you preoccupied?

bignej 01-10-2007 10:26 AM

I quit smoking recently and I've been using the Commit lozenges. They are working great. I would guess they would work better for someone quitting smokeless since you park the lozenges in your gums. BTW, they work 20 times better than the gum for anyone else that hasn't tried them.

MizzouRah 01-10-2007 12:35 PM

Thanks... I chew gum like no tomorrow. The biggest thing for me is to stay away from spicy food and alcohol - HUGE triggers for me.

As for the gum and lozenges, I don't want any nicotine in my system at all, although cold turkey is rough, I prefer that method.

btw,

Day 12

MizzouRah 01-11-2007 01:25 PM

Day 13

Easy night, day is going ok for now. :)

MizzouRah 01-12-2007 10:14 AM

Day 14

Felt like getting a can last night as the wife and I had an argument that really ticked me off. Anyhow, made it and I'm on two weeks today. Should be a fun weekend. :p

MizzouRah 01-13-2007 02:13 PM

Day 15

Good day fellas!!

MizzouRah 01-14-2007 10:51 AM

Day 16

Not a bad day yesterday, although watching the playoffs makes it tough not to think about a nice fatty in the 'ol lip.

MizzouRah 01-15-2007 11:35 AM

Day 17

Tough weekend although having no power helped as I slept most of the day. :)

miked 01-15-2007 02:31 PM

Hmm..for some reason I never think of smokeless tobacco when people talk about quitting. My wife's mother has cancer and still continues to smoke, probably because it was low grade lymphoma and stage 1 breast cancer, so she sort of "got off easy". Good luck and keep up the work, hopefully quitting now will head off any bad stuff that can come up as a result.

MizzouRah 01-15-2007 07:03 PM

It's actually huge as there is another message board and website dedicated to quitting this nasty habit.

Appreciate the vote of confidence! :)

MizzouRah 01-16-2007 12:40 PM

Day 18

Week days are not that bad anymore.. it's Friday's that suck.

AlexB 01-16-2007 02:02 PM

Keep it going Todd - your thread last year helped me keep to quitting cigarettes: only fair you should get the benefit as well :)

spleen1015 01-16-2007 02:21 PM

Keep it going Todd!

I have tried to quit smoking numerous times over the years and always get back to it.

I may just have to start one of these dynasties. Maybe being embarrassed by the fact that I start a "I am quitting!" thread only to go back to smoking in 3 days will be enough to get it done! :)

MizzouRah 01-16-2007 09:45 PM

Thanks!! spleen, I've been down this road 1000x, all that matters is quitting!!!! If you cave, get back on the horse, every little bit helps!

CU Tiger 01-17-2007 09:48 AM

GOOD LUCK
I quit 3 years ago after 12 years of a can a day habit...

If you find yourself in need of an oral fixation (me especially while driving) I began eating sunflower seeds like crazy.

Either way GOOD LUCK
You caan dooooo it!

JetsIn06 01-17-2007 12:20 PM

Hey MizzouRah,

MizzouRah 01-19-2007 12:34 PM

Thanks!!

Day 21 - three weeks!! I usually go out for a few drinks after work, but I'll skip that trigger tonight.

MizzouRah 01-20-2007 08:56 AM

Day 22!

MizzouRah 01-21-2007 07:02 PM

Good Job Man!

MizzouRah 01-24-2007 09:09 AM

Suck it up, man. It's nothing when compared to the pain involved with cancer of the mouth.

Tigers are on tonight. Big chance for a big win! Really looking forward to watching them.

MizzouRah 01-31-2007 01:41 PM

Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!

MizzouRah 02-04-2007 12:07 AM
