I had thought I posted last week, but clearly not ... was buried with a ton of work stuff. This past week was much more sane; busy but normal-ish hours. And the weather went from major snowstorms to just some garden-variety snow in the middle of 30 degree days. So I was able to string together some running for the first time in a month. That, coupled with some decent discipline with portion controls, led to my best Monday weigh-in so far this year.

The caffeine changes referenced in the previous post ... not so much during the crazy work week. I did have a day last week where I had a single Coke, but I still averaged a couple a day last week. Still plenty of room for improvement on this front.

Our refrigerator/freezer died yesterday, so I'll be interested to see how much that screws up my diet this week. I imagine we'll have it addressed over the next couple of days, but going to probably see some uptick in eating out (by necessity) for a couple of days.

The refrigerator ended up being out of commission for over a week, as a part needed to be ordered and our schedules for being home to accommodate a second visit weren't great. That led to some challenges with healthy meals, and that behavior bled into this past week as well. Birthday + sports events running into the evening hours = later/unhealthy dinners.

But the constant through the last couple of weeks was getting in my running. I'm only hitting four days a week instead of the 5-6 where I eventually want to land. There is something to not escalating mileage too quickly, but I'm also having a hard time getting out of bed during the week for pre-dawn runs where I'm layered up. Those excuses will fall by the wayside over the next couple of months as the temps go up and the sun comes out earlier. My long run over the weekend is approaching 1.5 hours and the distance is about as high as I've gone since experiencing some knee pain last fall. That cold from January/February is a distant memory at this point.

Still have a lot of work to do with reducing caffeine. It is best not to talk about how many Cokes/day I had two weeks ago. And alcohol intake was higher than I would like last weekend around the birthday. But overall my portion control + increased exercise has been enough to see relatively positive trends over the past month.

While I fully expect to have another weigh-in post >175, the hope is that I'm ready in March to see most morning weigh ins be in the 170-175 range. And that by April (assuming spring break is not a destroyer of all weight loss plans) that 175 is gone for good.

The 3/12 weigh-in was a bit of a disappointment after a series of days checking in with weights lower than 175. It felt like a blip, until seeing my weight crescendo upwards to 178-179 early last week before moving down to previous levels over the past four days. Diet has been a little erratic, with the wife travelling and a little more fast food, but with pretty consistent exercise in March and reasonable portion control I'm a bit disappointed that I haven't been able to move the needle down a smidge more.

That said, until I address caffeine/Cokes for good and make portion control a constant rather than an elective behavior, I suppose that I'm still going to see week-over-week variance.

This week I'll be heading to Jamaica for spring break. While that would normally sound like a bad thing from a weigh perspective, I'm normally not one to gorge on buffets and I can be a bit finicky with my food choices. I'm cautiously optimistic about my early April check-in showing weigh loss rather than a spike upwards.

I think I'll be jumping back into this thread. My dad's recent heart issues has me on a bit of a health scare. And as a person who wants to retire early, I would like to live long enough to enjoy it. My BMI is about 35 right now and I would like to see that as close to 25 as I can.

3/11 = 197.8
3/25 = 193.6 (-4.2)

My first goal is 170 lbs which will take me out of the obese category. I've been cutting back on fast food (trying to cut it out completely on week days) and been working in more vegetables into my diet. But my biggest obstacle is alcohol. I'm used to a couple rum and cokes during weekdays and at the very least I want to eliminate or severely reduce that.

One thing I'm going to really to get into the habit of is logging every food I eat and keeping a calorie budget. Writing down everything I spend really helps my finances so maybe it will help my diet too.

The first couple weeks have gone rather well. The first week I was hungry all the time but this second week hasn't been too bad.

4/1 = 193.1 (-.5)

Didn't lose as much as I hoped but it's still good to see the needle moving in right direction.

NobodyHere 04-15-2021 08:50 AM

4/8 - 193.3 (+.2)
I forgot to put this one in last week.

Note to self: Never have a cheat day the day before weighing in.

NobodyHere 04-15-2021 03:37 PM

4/15 - 192.0 (-1.3)

The good news is that I took a two mile walk this week. The bad news? It was to the liquor store.

I have been around 200-205 most of my adult life since my workout habits and diet have always been pretty consistent. Got as heavy as 215, mainly due to more snacking, during the pandemic and about a month ago decided to get more disciplined with that.

Lost the 15 pounds in two weeks and have stayed between 199-203 since.

Necro-bumping this.

Trying to lose weight. Legs are definitely more tired now than when I was younger, but eating less feels easier.

That being said, I've gained 2 pounds this week despite eating at a decent deficit and working out plenty. This stuff is so frustrating. I know it's just random fluctuations, water, salt... but sometimes it is nice to not lose as many battles even while winning the war.
