WHATTGTTTTT

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 08:11 PM

After slaying eight giants with his party mate, ntndeacon, and getting an Xp bonus off he Ring of Wisdom, CrimsonFox has also won the game

Danny 04-26-2012 08:11 PM

Damn it Mckerney

hoopsguy 04-26-2012 08:11 PM

Well, I'm 100% that Jackal and I are not the only winners - looks like some people flat powered from 8 to 10.

Danny 04-26-2012 08:12 PM

Wow, congrats Crimson!!! I am happy with the winners

The Jackal 04-26-2012 08:12 PM

Impressive

The Jackal 04-26-2012 08:12 PM

Congrats to all

hoopsguy 04-26-2012 08:13 PM

Congrats to all the winners. Would be interested to get feedback from Abe, where he can recall, on events that helped push the winners to the top or had a major impact on slowing someone down who was in contention at one point.

Danny 04-26-2012 08:13 PM

Man I need to post it up to get to 1000 now. I didnt expect the game to end today. I finally found a level 4 spell too.

The Jackal 04-26-2012 08:13 PM

Uhh... don't know what just happened

Danny 04-26-2012 08:13 PM

Hoops and Jackal did not win, I can rest easy

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 08:13 PM

Danny 04-26-2012 08:14 PM

I wish we could keep going, I just got to level 4 of dungeon :(

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 08:14 PM

Yeah, CF used an item to auto kill the eight giants and split 68,000 XP w9ith ntndeacon. It's how PB powered up there too, with a Pot of Invulnerability

Danny 04-26-2012 08:15 PM

Wow

Danny 04-26-2012 08:15 PM

I need the 68k xp myself

Danny 04-26-2012 08:16 PM

5 more winners!

Danny 04-26-2012 08:16 PM

5 more winners!!

hoopsguy 04-26-2012 08:16 PM

I'm especially interested in how Dubb was able to win so many battles with a build that at least started off similar to my own. I felt like I was so easy to hit, and did relatively little damage, that I had to have a spellcaster along for the ride. But he was able to solo to victory while taking down a couple of the hardest monsters in the game.

Danny 04-26-2012 08:16 PM

Danny 04-26-2012 08:18 PM

I hope I wasn't the lowest level

Danny 04-26-2012 08:18 PM

There was so much xp to gain in these rooms, game ended too soon :(

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 08:18 PM

Because Darth has more XP at the end, he is considered the #4 winner officially.

Danny 04-26-2012 08:19 PM

We can safely say the sisharr were unbalanced!!!

Danny 04-26-2012 08:19 PM

Where are my afternoon results? I want to hit level 8

Danny 04-26-2012 08:20 PM

Oh Darth let me know that he jizzed in his pants

Danny 04-26-2012 08:20 PM

And thats a real quote

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 08:21 PM

So, one good result is that, like D1, the winners were from many classes.

Two fighters - Myrmidon and Paladin
One Priest
One Bard
One Battle Mage

Darth is lucky he's not dead :0

The only monster in the game with Finger of Death, and it didn;t work. I'm sad ;)

For PB and I, our fight against the green slime was a huge boost. At the time I was a pauper, winning that fight gave us each 500 gold and a number of other useful items.

You might even have passed me, as I just barely cracked 7 with the "Solve Murder" last night. So with the encounter today I was only 20-25% of the way to Level 8.

Having to flee (as you did), then taking a day to rejoin party, and then being stoned by basilisk cost 3 days. Add to that the toughest monster we beat was around 10K and getting split 2 ways ... well, clearly not a winning strategy.

I also wasn't buying enough supplemental items at the Djinni. I didn't have money early in the game, but I had cash late and couldn't find either magic items to deal 20+ damage or armor to make me more confident wading into the fray. I'm still equipped with normal chain mail

Danny 04-26-2012 08:22 PM

He will act all cocky when he comes here, but he was sweating it ;)

Danny 04-26-2012 08:22 PM

Wow, I BEAT HOOPS!!!!

Danny 04-26-2012 08:22 PM

I was only a little short of level 8

JAG 04-26-2012 08:23 PM

Congrats to Darth and Crimson, nice work boys.

Danny 04-26-2012 08:23 PM

I actually think I could have made a good push the next few days, but people finished way before I expected them to

Yeah, having to flee and out of everything really really hurts. Dungeon was a ton of fun, but it is 95% luck

He beat the giants pretty easily, but used his spells and Ring and Dart to do it, so he came in with just the Bolt he just learned. If he hadn't; rolled well on tis damage, he'd lost and had to have used his item to escape. (you bastard!!! :) )

But he was very close to nine today, so hitting nine with the giants was in rage, and put him a dragon away from winning. I thought he would be one after seeing everybody after JAG's win. I just asn;t sure CF would be the other, there were a lot of 8s. CF was lucky that Darth riled up the giants for him when he and ntn entered, or else no 8 giants for them!

Thomkal 04-26-2012 08:26 PM

Congrats CF!

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 08:26 PM

Always a pleasure

Folks, i hope you had a fantastic time!!!

Starting tomorrow, I want to get ideas for Dungeon 3. I already know some rules changes I wnt to make, but what worked and didn't - what would you recommend. Many changes you suggested last time impacted the rules this time, so spend tonight relaxing, asking questions, and enjoying your victories, and tomorrow - rules time!!!

Danny 04-26-2012 08:27 PM

I am surprised though that Hoops and Jackal werent closer with how they rolled on armegeddon item. I guess they just didnt get the monsters they needed

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 08:27 PM

I can sleep in tomorrow!!!

Danny 04-26-2012 08:27 PM

I want my afternoon action processed and to hit level 8!!!

Danny 04-26-2012 08:28 PM

Hoops, I had fun being your enemy! It spiced up the game and made it more fun. I really wouldn't have been too upset if you won :)

Danny 04-26-2012 08:31 PM

Next dungeon I am playing an evil character, you can book it

JAG 04-26-2012 08:31 PM

Abe, what was the deal with the room I died in D1? Did you need an everburning torch not to fight in the dark? I assume the monsters were skeletons based on the description and that the exp one gave was equal to the skels we fought in the Barrow Downs room.

Danny 04-26-2012 08:31 PM

Thats funny, Jag and I were the two that died day 1

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 08:35 PM

To answer a hoops question

The doc with teh rules for players in 19 pages

The doc with teh magic items and sale info is 17 pages

the recipe scroll doc is 7 pages

My rules and rooms is 51 pages

I made this game harder due to the party mechanic, and we only lost two players due to rooms, so maybe I need to scale it up eve more next time. Harder also gave you more XP, which was faster acceleration. I don't mind finishing in four weeks though.

You entered one of the harder rooms on DLevel1 and you had an option to flee. Well, when you didn;t take it....

Danny 04-26-2012 08:37 PM

Abe, when is the board game version coming out?

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 08:38 PM

i won't answer too much about rooms, because i will lielyl keep many.

I'm so sad more of you did't fall into the UnderDungeon, is was a lot fo fun and there were many entrances

Danny 04-26-2012 08:43 PM

Now its going to be two and a half more years before I reach 1000

I tried to play like a dick - a stretch, I know :) - but I also wanted to collaborate with other players so it was mostly bluster.

But I did try to shaft Jackal last night and do the room to claim the XP/reward while shorting him. I was pretty frustrated that he and JAG were able to get the reward later that night after I had taken Jackal's nocturne potion and skipped the Djinni (er, Marin?) sale to steal XP.

Abe, how much fudging of rolls did you do throughout this game? It sure felt like players (including me) got a lot of good rolls when death was on the line.

Danny 04-26-2012 08:59 PM

Next game I think everyone should get matched up with one rival pre game.

Danny 04-26-2012 09:00 PM

One player you cant party up with will attack if in the same room with them

I never fudge rolls. Death is meaningless if I don't. Then Kwhit and Thomkal and mckerney and all of the rest would be quite upset at me, and understandably so.

Sometimes I change what is in a room based on situation, if a creature was super easy to kill maybe it won't has as many items, or putting 6 items in that chest seemed like a good idea at the time, but now. Or if a creature was really hard to kill maybe there's more gold or something, but I never cheat combat rolls.

Danny 04-26-2012 09:03 PM

Abe, you needed to put more spells on my the monsters I fought

The Jackal 04-26-2012 09:04 PM

Yeah the one thing I would have liked to see is more player vs player combat, especially late in the game

Definitely

The Jackal 04-26-2012 09:04 PM

One of the armageddon effects should have been two random players dueling

The Jackal 04-26-2012 09:05 PM

Definitely, win or lose I would have liked to have seen us fight

Thomkal 04-26-2012 09:06 PM

First off, another great job with the Dungeon game Abe.

Why was I so pissed when the Ghouls got me? I had three recipes on me-one for the bow that shot arrows like javelins of lightning-and I had just found the javelin of Lightning for the recipe, another was for +6 to hit, +6 damage two handed weapon which would have been awesome....and the Ring of One Wish. Yes I found what Abe called the most powerful recipe back on day 5 or so. Could have chosen between surviving one death, instantly destroying a monster, and gaining two levels if below 7th level. I probably would have gone with the levels given I was by myself and wasn't really finding anything weapon/armor wise. Arrrgh!

I like the idea behind the Ghouls-giving eliminated players a chance to continue playing, but all we really were doing was picking a direction-we didn't interract with the rooms so not much to do as a Ghoul. And if I was going to die (which I almost did at least two times), I'd want to die to something in a room not a now mindless player.

Thomkal 04-26-2012 09:09 PM

oh do you remember what potion and scrolls were in that chest I destroyed when I got the javelin?

Autumn 04-26-2012 09:14 PM

Yeah, trying to hunt down players based on their descriptions in thread was more fun than being out of the game, but dying still sucked a great deal. I missed the first Dungeon, so it was a real bummer to not do anything in this one.

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 09:14 PM

I remember that Julio has had an unidentified Potion of Experience for more thn a week and never bothered to Id it and that was a free level :)

Oh, and sometimes dice rolls aren't as lucky as they look.

Take Darth for example - his weapon dealt 1d8+2. How many times vs the biggie did he roll max damage? Not once. How many times did he roll a 7 and get 9 damage? I think just once. Every attack that hit he had a 25% chance of doling out 9 or 10 and only did it once. She had 120 hp and he managed to take her out with a lot of lower attacks.

The afternoon I got there I tossed around a lot of ideas...dueling dubb, horsing to the room south of there, go to the sale or not, if I go to the sale, do I buy Globe of Invulnerability when I already have three nice 4th level spells but it fills a big need for protection without having Stoneskin, do I buy Passwall which might save me some time but otherwise doesn't help in combat, etc... I finally decided dueling dubb wasn't a good idea because I traded him all those healing potions and I thought he had some kind of magic resistance, plus I would've actually been a little upset if I had killed him. If my spells didn't kill him, he would've slaughtered me in melee combat. I didn't really want to duel Darth if he was at my level (and I thought he was the only one who might be, other than PB who I wasn't going to duel), because if he had acid arrow / cold blast and won initiative, I would've been dead round 1.

dubb93 04-26-2012 09:36 PM

For as big, bad, and evil as you were Hoops, you were also kinda a wimp.

How did I win? I ALWAYS pushed the next level up. I hit level 2 as soon as I was able to and then attempted to move onto level 3 as soon as I saw an exit(ended up in the under dungeon tho).

Same thing with level 4. I took it as soon as I could and never ducked out(ok, I was in poor health one day and moved to level 3, but picked up a horse figure @ the sale and promply moved back during the afternoon).

Doesn't matter how squishy I am. I have 5,000 health potions. What could kill me?

dubb93 04-26-2012 09:36 PM

And having a +6 wep helped greatly too.

Based on my experiences and reading some in the thread, I think L1 should be toned down some and L2+L3 should be ramped up. The first level seemed to be too lethal before people had a chance to meet up and join forces. Considering there would've been 4 deaths on D1 but for the pixies and KWhit had overwhelming enemies in 2 of the 3 rooms that bordered his starting room, it just seems like it was rogue-like in its initial toughness.

Yeah, you shot up, and then dithered around. I thought you and dubb were in for sure with your forward ness and then you slowed down joined a party of two others and split XP when you didn't need to and so forth

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 10:40 PM

If I had to choose my class/race, knowing everything about the game and my own personal style

Human Sorcerer
Sis'Sharr Lay Healer
Flame Kin Artificer

Would have been my choices. Prolly Sorcerer or Artificer. Prolly Human Sorcerer. Human XP advantage fights your slow XP chart. Then combined the awesome power of healing with the awesome power of beating. RAR!!!

Danny 04-26-2012 10:44 PM

I thought about going full caster, but the xp chart seemed to hurt. I loved the wizard spells, it was just hard to get the ones you wanted.

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 10:45 PM

I think the Lay Healer is a secret tank of massiveness and bhlloy was realizing it. Expertise and Toughen make clerics able to solo things, and the Lay Healer with Expertise and the armor of a Myrmidon doesn;t even need Toughen, which is subtly what makes them so good - able to use max armor and shield. Lay healer doesn;t waste a turn to heal, and has the HP and Attack ability of a fighter. I almost dropped Expertise from the cleric list because of the Lay Healer's ability to break it, and even though a lot of clerics went in that direction, I don't think it was that bad.

ntndeacon 04-26-2012 10:46 PM

I actually thought of the lay healer or a flame kin priest . then pro from cold becomes more important

And Sorcerer counters that by having no issues with spell selection. A Sorcerer with Magic Missile can kill a few small creatures, level up, take the powerful Cure, and you are in the money, you know?

I want to give the back three more power with more spells next time. I already know a few more classes I wanna add.

Danny 04-26-2012 10:48 PM

Honestly Abe, when I picked Battle Mage, I misunderstood, I thought I got to choose my spells. I would have chosen Sorcerer instead if I knew

Id like to see a free for all battle to end the dungeon between all living contenstants.

Abe Sargent 04-26-2012 11:29 PM

I tried to make every class have something really good about it. Druids as a fighter get more attacks than any other, berserkers constantly berserk, paladins self heal, Rangers have the cool bow, sorcerers can use both realms, bards have Lore and ID'ing stuff for free, assassins pick and disarm and search well, priests heal, lay healers really heal, you know - etc, etc, etc.
