Nominess are just announced, and I needed to put this somewhere. "Elvis" was a fine movie, but best picture nominee? No.


Edit: I really neede to see "All Quiet on the Western Front"

When they went to 10 nominees there is always a couple not "worthy"

Wife and I love the Oscars but with young kids never actually saw any of the movies. About 3 years ago we made it a point to watch all the nominated movies so we have an opinion on the awards. Has made it really fun even though some of those movies are hard to watch. I'm looking at you Nomadland.

dola- We are actually ahead of the game, have seen 2 of them. Avatar and Top Gun

Nomadland was awesome

Judd Hirsch was in The Fabelmans for 5 minutes so that's interesting

All Quiet on the Western Front is a tough watch, heard it compared to almost torture porn... that is not far off

Top Gun eh. So just remake all the high grossing movies from the 80s with almost the same script and some of the original cast and you'll get a nom

Also with ALL QUIET there were some real fuckin liberties taken with the history of the armistice and how it was reached in there... since it was a German production. A little off putting

Different strokes. Nomad land was 100 minutes of literally nothing happening.

I had read the book and known people who lived that lifestyle so I found it interesting to see it all visualized, but they made some certain choices and were maybe not successful at connecting with everyone.

I've seen 4 of the best picture nominees, have Banshees on my DVR, am seeing Women Talking at some point this week at the artsy theater, and will probably knock out Western Front before I do my periodic Netflix cancelling at the end of the month.

I thought Rrr was supposed to be great. Almost no nominations

It didn't advertise itself as an action movie, so not sure what you were expecting.

If you're not aware of what you're seeing going in, that's on you. Doesn't preclude you from having an opinion, but also doesn't preclude me from discounting it because you just don't like those type of movies

I didn’t think it was torture porn. It was very intense & brutal though, very. The best war movie I’ve seen in a long time. Much better than Dunkirk. If you haven’t seen it, watch it … but NOT a chick flick.

I do think Avatar is the better movie but I’m rooting for Top Gun anyways.

Assuming it comes down to Rihanna vs Lady Gaga. Tough one but again go with Top Gun.

I do hope Michelle Yeoh wins Best Actress. Her acting was just so different from the other roles I’ve seen her in. I think it’s worthy.

Well , when India put up some other movie as their foreign picture nominee, that pretty well screwed RRR. I think that the song got more play because of that.

Where did I say I expected an action movie? I full well went in knowing it would be a flaming tub of suckage and it was. Minari wasn’t an action movie and I thought it was fantastic. I also enjoyed the one with Hopkins. Nomad land was literally 100 minutes of a woman driving a van around until it broke down then she had to ask for money.

I didn't find All Quiet on the Western Front funny enough.

I do like they have finally recognized Brenden Fraser for his role in "Encino Man."

I'll be happy even if they just give her the award as a lifetime achievement award. Every performance of hers that I've seen has been utterly compelling.

Trying to watch some nominees before Sunday. Watching The Banshees of Inisherin right now. Idk. Not really grabbing me so far.

Banishees was just not my cup of tea at all. Just finished Triangle Of Sadness, another dark comedy that was better. Both movies had the deeper commentary to it, and Triangles hit you more over the head with it. Still, I found it had better comedic value.

So I have watched all ten movies nominated for best picture. Top Gun was my favorite but I can see why EEAAO is the heavy favorite. Avatar was excellent on the big screen. I also liked Women Talking and Triangle of sadness. Tar was terrible. Banshees was boring, saved by the fine acting. Elvis lacked depth IMO, The kid who played Elvis was excellent, Hanks was laughably bad. All quiet was a VERY good war movie, really enjoyed it. I really like the Fablemans. Williams was fantastic

Rooting for Michelle Yeoh!

First win for Jamie Lee Curtis. You'd think she would have won for one of the Halloween movies by now.

We are about 15 minutes behind but it was so cool to see Data and Jamie Lee Curtis win.

The animation for "My Year of Dicks" was not what I was expecting.

Brendan Frasier winning an Oscar is probably my all time favorite moment. So freaking cool that a guy who did all these goofy movies from when I was growing up shows he has actual chops.

Holy crap, Ke Huy Quan, who won best supporting actor, was also in Encino Man. Big night for Pauly Shore.

Yup. He is terrific in School Ties. I didn't think The Whale was a good movie, but he is phenomenal in it.

Blast from the Past is another fun Brendan Fraser movie people should check out. Really good date movie.

School ties is such an awesome movie. Need to show it to my kids, especially the 13 year old who has a Jewish grandfather

So I just put on School ties and I am going to stay up way too late. also weird that Rip from Yellowstone is in it.

Matt and Ben have a shared Oscar for the screenplay of "Good Will Hunting." Ben also has one as Executive Producer of Argo for winning Bedt Picture.
