9) Another comment I forgot. Where were the COTs? In EU2, over time, COTs form in heavily colonized places, like North America. Not a single COT formed outside of Ming the entire game. This was a problem because all of the New World trade was going through the same three COTs, and really jacked up the value of those COTs to astronomical heights. Andalucia finished the game with more trade than all seven of my COTs combined.

Final Retrospective:

The following nations were our vassals: The Mamluks, Hungary, Poland, Saxony, Crimea, Serbia, Lan Xang, Lan Na, Sulu, Maldive, Wallachia, Transylvania, Shan, Golden Horde, Pattani, Moldavia and Shan. That’s 17 vassals.

We had 155/115/16 in our army
17/14/3/37 in our navy

Our ending techs were 51 gvnment, 52 in trade and production, and 53 in naval and land.

Our form of governmeant was a Feudal Monarchy for the entire game, and we never changed.

As the Papal Controller, we currently naturally control six of the seven cardinals because they came from my territory.

6 of the 8 Holy Roman Emperor electors currently support us. The eight electors are:

Italy
Lithuania
Armagnac
Auvernne
Bourbonnais
France
Provence
Austria

Four of those are French vassals, so you might expect them to lean for France. In fact, we get the vote from everybody except Lithuania, whi leans France, and Austria, who leans Denmark.

One of my basic strategies in this game was to never get bogged down in any major European Wars. We were never at major war with France, Austria, Saxony, England and so forth. We never took land from Portugal or Castille. Our wars were fought in Italy and the Meditteranean.

We finished the game with the top prestige at 49%, which was not that high, having diminished since we were last at war from 99%.

We have 0% inflation. The highest inflated nation was Poland with 38%.

Except in government, where the highest tech was 53, we finished with the top tech in each area. We weren’t even tied with any othe countries – always being at the top.

We had a lot more provinces than the next highest country.

Provinces.

The Top Twenty-Five Tax Provinces

Venezia * 33.8
Liguria *
Thrace *
Alexandria *
Lombardia
Astrakhan *
Firenze
Roma
Napoli
Malacca *
Savoie
Barcelona
Mantua
Cape #
Siena
Mataram #
Zanzibar *
Bithynia
Palermo
Valencia
Bern
Salonica
Korales
Messina
Pisa 12.2

There’s still a ton of Italian provinces dominating the list. Asterisks are COTs and number signs are colonies. I think this is an interesting list, because it often demonstrates where the people are (more people = more taxes, no matter how low the taxbase is). I put the number of tax ducats after the top and bottom to show you how varied this list is. The 26th province? Thang Long.

Now let’s look at production

Okinawa 97.5
Makassar
Malacca
Korales
Taiwan
Tripolitania
Kilwa G
Angora
Bali-Lombok
Kartli
Erserum
Alania G
Bursa
Bithynia
Aleppo
Antalya
Brescia
Lombardia
Anatolia
Rio de Janeiro
Sofala G
Mombasa
Siena
Abbruzzi
Napoli 52.5

Again you see non-European doiminace on this chart with G standing for gold mines. One of the interesting things you see here is that as I build manufactories, new provinces emerge onto this list, like Rio de Janeiro.

The variance here is not nearly as strong from top to bottom as it is for the tax tops. The number may be bigger, but places that are lower, like Smyrna and Palermo at 26 and 27 are still making over 50 ducats each in production alone. In fact, you have to go down to number 35 at Jamaica before you drop below 50 ducats annually in production, and Jamaica still has 49.9.

Religion - I have Sunnis, Catholics and Orthodoxes in my nation and that’s it. Catholics are around 90% or so.

Culture

Lombard will always be our greatest culture. T looks to be around 60%. Next highest are:

Turkish
Catalan
Greek
al Misr Arabic
Sicilian

Almost every province we own is a core.

Ming finished the game with 8 COTs which foils our 7.

We made the most money annually of any nation, which you would only expect.

And that’s Italy (Naxos) in retrospective. I’ll hook you folks up with some maps later on. Is there any informationt hat you want about the nation that I didn’t give?

Looking back is there anything you wish you had done differently?

I made my share of mistakes, but I knew well enough to leave alone the big dawgs. My first war, the failed Dulkadir war could've gone very badly and it told me to knock it off and play tighter.

I think it was a mistake that acted like a wake-up call, so I wouldn't want to take it back, you know?

I wish I woulda formed Italy much earlier. I coulda taken Rome earlier and I coulda ambushed Tuscany earlier.

In one way, I wish I could have gone the distance with Castille as my ally and never having warrred with the Ottomans, but I knew those were unrealistic expectations ultiamtely.

I took Quest for the New World too early as a national idea. I wasted the stability hit on the minor Scientifice Revolution - I should have taken Deus Vult from the very beginning.

I had never played with those before, so it was natural that I mess up with them. I coulda used spies a lot earlier as well.

Those are some thoughts.

Abe Sargent 04-04-2007 10:43 PM

Oh, and I would have pushed inflation harder, knowing that I was going to get the National bank and Tax Assessors in provinces, I wouldn;t have worred as much about early inflation.

Inflation in this game was nothing like it was in EU2 where it was damning. I might have been too afraid of it.

I'm going to start putting up maps. Here is Southeast Africa

Abe Sargent 04-05-2007 08:52 PM

Here's South South America. I apparently had a MSPaint accident on the side, so ignore that.

Abe Sargent 04-05-2007 08:55 PM

Here's North South America:

Abe Sargent 04-05-2007 09:00 PM

Here is Indonesia and SE Asia:

Once again, stars indicate vassals.

Abe Sargent 04-05-2007 09:05 PM

Here is The Old Arabic World, including Turkey, Egypt and much of the Middle East. Again, stars represent vassals.

Abe Sargent 04-05-2007 09:10 PM

Here's the Mediterranean. Again with stars over vassals. You can see all of the French minors running around.

Abe Sargent 04-05-2007 09:15 PM

And I just gave you maps of North America a few years ago. Therefore, you can now see all of our area!

Abe Sargent 04-05-2007 09:19 PM

And, one last map, for fun. Here is Northern Europe

nilodor 04-06-2007 12:28 AM

Thanks for this dynasty, I enjoyed it alot.

Groundhog 04-06-2007 09:05 AM

Yeah, t'was a great read, thanks!

One obeservation; strange that Tyrone not only survived in Ireland, but that it captured 2 provinces. England usually gobbles up Ireland pretty early in my games.

Abe Sargent 04-06-2007 12:57 PM

Glad you folks liked it!

thealmighty 04-06-2007 05:00 PM

Very much enjoyed this, Abe. Excellent job.

Izulde 02-22-2008 12:04 AM

I just want you to know, Abe, that because of this dynasty, every time I see the word Naxos in this novel I'm reading, I keep thinking the setting's a Mediterranean island. :p

Abe Sargent 04-01-2008 09:07 PM

I just saw your post, but that's funny!
