5 celebrity encounters, which one is false?

I saw this on the twitter machine earlier and thought it was a cool idea.

Here are 5 celebrity encounters I've had. 1 of them is false. Which one?

1. At the 2010 Final Four, as Duke was leaving the floor after their public practice, I shook hands with Coach K.

2. When I worked at a bowling alley, I helped Peyton Manning bowl with 5 handicapped kids in a private suite and no one knew he was even in the building.

3. While putting my stepson on an airplane to go see his dad for Christmas, I talked to Eric Montross for about 10 minutes.

4. I raced go-karts with Tony Stewart after my wife won a radio contest.

5. While flying home from a business trip I sat next to Dick Vitale on the plane. He was coming to Indy to participate in a mock tournament selection committee for the media.

2, I've never seen a bowling alley with a private suite. (Greay story if true)

jbergey22 02-07-2022 12:17 AM

3, Is Eric Montross considered a celebrity?

CrimsonFox 02-07-2022 01:10 AM

where are the celebrities?

We actually have one where I live, it is not adorned with autographed pics of Manning though, so it wasn't here. :)

I figured someone would think this. I just thought it was a cool thing to do based on sort of the same thing on Twitter yesterday. If I was going for lots of responses, I failed. :p

Eric Montross would be amazing fake celebrity to use for this kind of thing. Him or Acie Earl.

4 was the first to be picked by 5 people so....

It is not the lie.

My wife won an auction through the Bob & Tom show. They auctioned off 16 spots for this with the proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House. They had the 16 of us run heats and the top 8 were put in a group and the bottom 8. I was 9th, so 1st in the 'slow' group. We ran a 10 lap race and Tony started in 9th. He passed me going into the last turn on the first lap and he lapped me 4 times during those 10 laps. It was at one of those indoor karting places.

NobodyHere 02-07-2022 01:56 PM

I still love the Bob & Tom show.

spleen1015 02-08-2022 08:33 AM

For those still interested in the answer...

#5 is the lie. This story is mostly true, except I sat next to Seth Davis, not Dickie V, from Newark to Indy.

CarterNMA 02-08-2022 04:49 PM

I was gonna guess 1 as my sole famous person bump was Lute Olsen. On a tarmac in Augusta, GA. Half of the plane was college b-ball coaches or scouts. Met an assistant and/or scout from Old Dominion too in Charlotte earlier in the day but can't recall his name.

Toddzilla 02-08-2022 07:04 PM

I'll go next

one of these is false, the rest are true...

1. Sat next to Jim Boehiem at the Final Four in Phoenix in 2016

2. Played basketball with Bob Dylan behind the arena he was playing that evening.

3. Had drinks with Sarah Shahi in a Washington DC bar when she was there filming Person of Interest

4. Had dinner with Anthony Quinn when I was a child and fell asleep at the table because his stories were so goddamn boring.

5. Played blackjack with Jeff Reardon on a cruise ship. He was terrible - and very very drunk.

Toddzilla 02-08-2022 07:05 PM

also, I realize Jeff Reardon stretches the definition of "celebrity" but I'll put him up against Eric Montross any day of the week.

JPhillips 02-08-2022 07:47 PM

3

If you had drinks with Sarah Shahi and don't brag about it regularly, that's a big probelm.

BYU 14 02-08-2022 09:22 PM

Going with 1, Syracuse lost in the semis that year, and you may have sat behind the Syracuse bench, saying that doesn't count :)

To be fair, every Final Four has a "Coaches" section where every coach is invited. You can sometimes see them on TV, they sit in mid-court between the benches.

Then you have a great connection, still sticking with 1 though :)

Toddzilla 02-10-2022 10:32 AM

The answer is #3, the rest are true.

I know one of the bartenders at the place Sarah visited, the inspiration for my fib.

and before you ask, yes, Dylan could ball

sterlingice 02-10-2022 10:49 AM

A) I lead a boring life
B) I'm really horrible at recognizing people out of context so even if I were sitting next to like some B-list celeb or non-superstar athlete on a plane, I probably wouldn't notice.

SI

larrymcg421 02-11-2022 10:05 AM

I'll keep it going...

1) Had a picture taken with Michael J. Fox at a fan convention in Boston, MA.

2) Craig Robinson said "Dinking Flicka" to me in an elevator in Scranton, PA.

3) Met John Lewis when he signed his graphic novel for me at Dragoncon

4) Met James Woods while he was filming scenes for Contact in Cape Canaveral, FL.

5) Met Stacey Abrams at the Wild Hog Supper in Atlanta, GA.
