It's Not like TAMU was winning because they were passing the ball

Why did he throw it 50 times?

Then again, neither does A&M.

Someone should have told that QB where the play clock was, he was snapping it with 18 seconds left on the clock half the time.

JonInMiddleGA 09-03-2017 10:35 PM

For those who are now wondering ... thankfully A&M and Mizzou are not scheduled to play each other this season.

Life will be hard enough for the fellows who have to change out the lights in the scoreboard without THAT combination on their plates.

Too bad, that could have been a score that looked like the Doug Moe era Nuggets.

JonInMiddleGA 09-03-2017 11:04 PM

Florida: nobody could possibly be in worse shape than us after the season opener

A&M: Hold my beer

Iowa fans rock. Started a new tradition Saturday.
UI Hospitals built a new childrens hospital right outside Kinnick Stadium. The kids go up top and watch the game.
The fans turned around and waved at all the kids.

Good stuff.

Well played.

In what version of hell does UT vs GTech = only game of the night on national TV?

JonInMiddleGA 09-04-2017 08:35 PM

Not as ugly for either team in the first half as I expected/feared, but certainly plenty to talk about for both at halftime.

After that final possession of the half, UT may wanna have the backup get loose. Dormady went from looking like the game was just a little too fast for him (which you can grow out of) to being almost out of control, which is a whole different deal.

tarcone 09-04-2017 09:02 PM

Espn watch sucks.

I think there should be offensive targeting.

JonInMiddleGA 09-04-2017 09:56 PM

As only GT can do, suddenly finding ways to put defeat well within their grasp.

Yeah, but does Butch Jones cancel out Paul Johnson?

jbergey22 09-04-2017 10:06 PM

Marshall is having a game.

bhlloy 09-04-2017 10:07 PM

Should have just slid after getting the first down. Brutal.

Sadly predictable.

bob 09-04-2017 10:16 PM

I sent this at halftime to a friend:

"We're dominating.

Inside handoff is getting 5 or 6 a pop.

Defense is getting good pressure.

Up at halftime.

Ball first in the second...

...so how are we going to lose this in heartbreaking fashion?"

bhlloy 09-04-2017 10:24 PM

Kicker is lucky that was blocked because if it wasn't it was going to be one of the worst kicks I've ever seen

bob 09-04-2017 10:25 PM

Worse than his 47 yard attempt?

His OL was in jeopardy of getting hit by the ball from their blind side.

JonInMiddleGA 09-04-2017 10:55 PM

Not sure I've ever felt more homicidal toward certain players -- and ultimately a staff -- than I am right now. It's not losing to UGA bad but it's one of the most nauseating losses I've experienced in 40+ years of fandom because of the manner of it.

HUGE props to TaQuon Marshall, love his performance & his lunch pail.

jbergey22 09-04-2017 10:56 PM

Tennessee had no business winning that game. 655 yards of total offense for Tech with 535 rushing yards. Tennessee had very little hope of stopping the run without Tech making mistakes. And Tennessee's only offense much of the game was having Callaway outjump the d-back.

With the the only 2 known commodities at WR out by midway (Smith, then Jennings), it was going to be tough for the offense unless they got in front of the chains. Once they did, it was game over for the Tech defense however.

tarcone 09-05-2017 06:25 AM

Has GT ever thought of offering a scholarship to a kicker? Maybe one they recruited?

bob 09-05-2017 06:49 AM

Recruiting a kicker, or caring about special teams at all, would required CPJ to admit he has ever been wrong about anything. However, he never is. Anything that goes wrong is due to poor player execution.

He's the Charlie Weis of the south. Maybe more successful, but just as arrogant.

There is offensive targeting. Nothing in the rule states that it is purely on the defense.

HerRealName 09-05-2017 07:40 AM

Second night in a row that I fell asleep before the end of the game I was watching. I suck.

Case in point, re: the 2 point play in overtime:

Johnson: “We pitched the ball late. If we do it right, even if we don’t block the guys, we can still pitch it and the guy has a race to the end zone.”

Then: “We screwed that up. That should have been a walk-in … We screwed that up, so we don’t deserve to win.”

Oh, and the missed field goals. What can be done about that? “Try a different kicker, I guess,” said Johnson, who’d deployed the walk-on Shawn Davis on Monday. “The last one he kicked head-high.’

ESPN and the ACC have a deal where they do a Labor Day night game.

That doesn't make it right to subject people to Georgia Tech.

CU Tiger 09-05-2017 10:06 AM

I love watching GT's offense when it is humming.
There isnt a prettier display of perfect football.

Im dead serious about that. I love option football.

WHY IN THE HELL go for 2 there. Youve moved the ball at will against UT, they've been inconsistent as hell. Keep the pressure on them. I maybe get the surprise factor but once UT called a timeout you have to kick the XP.

I think that is exactly why they went for it. I don't remember the last time they held GT to a gain of less than 3 yards on a run.

The defense was d-o-n-e done. They weren't going to stop anybody again unless Dormady pulled a Clint Stoerner. ( Plus, you know, Ted Roof and all )

I'm the first to knock CPJ when he screws up a call but the 2-point try was 100% the right one. It didn't work out, but it was the right choice to make.

Actually there is one ... he just didn't kick last night.
*NOTE: I've seen a couple of mentions that there may have been an injury issue but what I've seen today from CPJ doesn't indicate one

Brenton King was signed (afaik), as a last minute replacement for the #1 PK in the country who ditched a GT commitment when Bama came knocking.
MaxPreps All-American as a junior, 2x all-state.

There is also another walk-on on the roster, a kid from Towns County (Shea Underwood), that was pretty well regarded.

So how the fucking punter from fucking Union Grove HS ends up kicking in that situation I do not fucking know.

What I do know is this: that if that sumbitch is ever on the field at the same time as a kicking tee again then the whole fucking staff ought to be fired, if not shot, on the spot.

GT and New Mexico are my two favorite schemes in College Football right now. I guess that is natural after running Wing T for nearly 2/3 of my 30 years in coaching.

Well the QB had already been interviewed and said the same thing. Despite playing a wonderful game, which Johnson also said, he made the wrong read on the deciding play. The B-Back would have walked in the end zone on the pitch.

Fair enough. But my point is that if there is any doubt, Paul Johnson will go out of his way to make sure you know that the players screwed up, not him. Every loss, every situation, every time.

I find Georgia Tech (and that game) quite entertaining for a night when there isn't supposed to be any football on.

Really?
I have seen lots of times RBs duck there head and hit a defensive player. Would that count? Or does the player taking the hit have to be defenseless?

tarcone 09-05-2017 03:45 PM

I agree with the sentiments about GTs offense. That is fun to watch. And such a simple but deadly offense.

It is one of the reasons I love the college game so much more than the pro game.

I cannot imagine that it is possible for someone to construct a sports-related post that I vehemently disagree with more than these statements. :p :p :p :p

I hated it nearly 50 years ago as well when I was watching Nebraska and the Big10 schools doing this crap.

tarcone 09-05-2017 08:51 PM

Rivalry week. Iowa travels to Ames to play the Clowns. Always their super bowl.
I have us winning, 30-10.

Go Hawks!

cartman 09-07-2017 08:39 AM

For the College Football degenerates, of which I consider myself one, this week's games kickoff tonight with Idaho State at Utah State.

There are two types of targeting. Targeting with the crown of the helmet (the player being targeted does not have to be defenseless. Also, the hit with the crown can be on any part of the targeted players body, not just the head.

The second type is targeting of a defenseless player in the head or neck area.

You would mainly see it on an offensive player making a blindside block on a defender in the head or neck area. The player being blocked on his blindside is defenseless, so any forcible contact to the head/neck area would be a targeting foul.

tarcone 09-08-2017 07:04 PM

Thanks, Sak. But does it ever get called?

There are 5 games tomorrow night I want to watch. FIVE. All starting within an hour.

Dang.

larrymcg421 09-08-2017 08:35 PM

Miami scheduled Alabama on Tuesday and decided to duck Arkansas State on Wednesday. This is what Rick Neuheisel and other idiots would have you believe.

JonInMiddleGA 09-09-2017 12:42 PM

GT & Ole Miss both playing "maybe we should just fire everybody" first halves.

edit to add: in fairness, maybe not so much at GT. This seems more like short-week hangover crap.

HerRealName 09-09-2017 01:48 PM

The only thing more impressive than Lamar Jackson is the UNC female talent watching the game.
