Small Game - Vanilla WW (Village Wins)

Looking back to do the history thread I see the small games are not given numbers. Because of that I will do a quick basic small game for a maximum of 8 players.

The rules are very generic WW. No backstory other than you are trapped in a room and can only get out when either the wolves win (1:1) and only they get out or the village wins by eliminating the wolves.

Village Roles:
Seer - you can scan someone to find out their allegiance once a night

BG - you may protect someone at night (you will not learn the identity of the attacker upon successful block), you may not protect the same person on back to back nights

Wolf Roles:
Brutal - when/if you get lynched you take a villager with you

Day Deadline: 9 PM EST

Night Deadline: 10 PM EST

EagleFan 08-02-2009 05:25 PM

Signups:

1. PurdueBrad - seer (day/night 2 "duke")
2. Danny - villager (killed night three)
3. claphamsa - brutal wolf
4. J23
5. nfg22 - villager (killed night one)
6. KWhit - wolf (lynched day one)
7. JetsIn06 - villager (lynched day three)
8. Lathum

PurdueBrad 08-02-2009 06:37 PM

I'll play, for sure. And you can't even vote me on D1 EF, perfect!

Danny 08-02-2009 06:54 PM

Sure, I can play too though if someone who is new or hasn't played in a while wants my spot, feel free to give it to them.

EagleFan 08-02-2009 07:05 PM

New rule, mandatory PB vote day one.... ;)

claphamsa 08-02-2009 07:42 PM

sinmple? I R IN

J23 08-02-2009 08:56 PM

I'll join in if you don't mind that it would be my first game.

All I need to know is to vote for PurdueBrad on day one, right?

Lathum 08-02-2009 09:23 PM

do you know him from another board?

J23 08-02-2009 09:25 PM

Nope, just folloing EagleFan's late addition to the rules!

I like this guy. :)

Now if he could teach my wife to listen that easily....

Just to clarify since this is a message board and sarcasm doesn't always translate. No need to vote for PB, he just has some odd paranoia that I actually vote for him every day one. Not sure where he gets that from...

EagleFan 08-02-2009 10:42 PM

On another note, welcome J23. New players are always a good thing.

Danny 08-02-2009 11:24 PM

Welcome J23! A bulls fan I assume.

Yes, but not where my handle came from actually.

Danny 08-02-2009 11:49 PM

Ah, so where did the handle come from them if you don't my curiosity?

J23 08-03-2009 12:17 AM

Nothing to do with sports, and nothing particualarly interesting.

DaddyTorgo 08-03-2009 08:08 AM

is a cunning unbalancing in a game this small?

Wasn't sure about that one to be honest. If the thought is that it will unbalance the game I can remove the cunning.

DaddyTorgo 08-03-2009 12:03 PM

i'm just raising the issue - not sure if it does or doesn't.

still debating if i have the time to play too

nfg22 08-03-2009 01:36 PM

I guess ill join...

KWhit 08-03-2009 02:10 PM

I'll play.

Danny 08-03-2009 05:20 PM

EF, I was actually going to send a PM, I definitely think having a cunning wolf, with only 8 players is a bit much. It'll be a challenge for the village as it is, without the wolf roles.

EagleFan 08-03-2009 06:14 PM

Does a seer and BG tip the scales toward the village if there is no cunning?

Danny 08-03-2009 06:24 PM

I don't think so with 8 players. Two bad lynches and kills and the wolves win. Usually two wolves have 10-11 players, so having the two roles in there is fine since there is only 8 players.

JetsIn06 08-03-2009 06:25 PM

In if there is room.

Lathum 08-03-2009 07:20 PM

I'll play if you wanna get this thing started

EagleFan 08-03-2009 07:29 PM

Going to send out the roles shortly and it will be game on.

EagleFan 08-03-2009 07:43 PM

Game on. Day one deadline is 9 PM EST Tuesday. Night one 10 PM EST Tuesday.

For the record, the vanilla villagers received the following PM:

You are a vanilla villager.

For lynch votes please bold the vote and seperate it from the rest of the post, if it includes more than just a vote.

No major background to the game. You're trapped in a room. Last night you woke up and found EagleFan mauled horribly. At least one of you is a werewolf and you aren't getting out until you rid yourselves of him/them.

PurdueBrad 08-03-2009 07:48 PM

Checking in and, although I'm a good guy, I definitely don't hate the fact that EF got mauled by something.

Danny 08-03-2009 07:48 PM

First deadline tomorrow night right?

EagleFan 08-03-2009 07:57 PM

Jumping on WoW for a bit. Will check back to see if there are any questions for me after a while.

Lathum 08-03-2009 08:01 PM

checking in.

I wont be around for the Wed deadline if I am still alive.

claphamsa 08-03-2009 08:02 PM

hmmm, I think the mods have collectively decided im too likely to get lynched day 1 to ever make a wolf :(

villegar here!

Wow. That sounds wolfish.

Oh wait. Eaglefan got mauled? Yeah, I agree.

:)

Danny 08-03-2009 08:05 PM

Regarding strategy, since we are in such a small game and there are only two wolves, the seer should reveal after day 1 if they can clear someone or find a wolf. That guarantees another scan as the BG can protect them.

For example right now we are 6-2. If we miss on the first day which we likely will that puts us at 4-2. If the seer reveals, clears someone that puts us with a 50% of finding a wolf and not losing the game on day 2. If the BG or Seer are up for a lynch, don't wait too long to reveal, especially the BG who can protect themselves night 1 and then shift to protecting the seer night 2 after he reveals.

this stuck me as odd... but the math adds up! wow to small games!

you assume the BG will automaticaly protect themselves N1

claphamsa 08-03-2009 08:46 PM

im going to bed!!

Wouldn't that be the best choice given the lack of information so early in the game?

not always. I know when I am the BG there are times I don't self protect night 1 so if I need to reveal day 2 I keep the wolves guessing.

I think provided that the seer is not revealed that the BG protecting themselves night 1 makes by far the most sense. That way the seer can reveal after night 1 and be assured of getting one more scan in.

In bigger games, it can depend of course. But I think in this small game the BG protecting himself is a good choice.

yeah, but as long as the BG didnt protect the seer night 1 they still can protect them, plus, the wolves would never know anyway.

I'm just saying it isn't so cut and dry.

Checking in as a VV...

JetsIn06 08-04-2009 01:03 AM

Clap is his own technical issue. If you talk to him, ask him if he's asked out that girl from the Metro yet. If he hasn't, then I may have to vote him.

EagleFan 08-04-2009 08:55 AM

FYI: Today is my 15th anniversay so I will be out for dinner with the wife and kids tonight. I will be able to be online for the deadlines and maybe some throughout the night but not constant.
