OOTP Pay league

I thought I'd cross post this from the OOTPs. Myself and another commish are getting the first (to my knowledge) OOTP league that pays for performance up.

Here's the post:

The Money Ball Syndicate is ready to accept applications!

The Syndicate is an OOTP pay league featuring 24 major league clubs divided into 2 leagues. Each league features 3 divisions of 4 teams each. Each of the 24 MLB teams have all three of their 'real life' minor league clubs from A through AAA ball. The league starts with a serpentine inaugural draft using a random draft order. OOTP11 and a valid isp email address are required. See the rules for a complete run down.

What makes the Syndicate different? You can make money for Syndicate success with a low buy in!

For our first season, each club costs 13.94 (the equivalent of an 82 win team). That gives us 334.56 to pay out to the league in season 1! To see the payout categories, please see our Rules section.

Each season after our first costs the owner .17 for each win his club posted the previous season. That gives us 320.96 to pay out each season after our first. We will sim twice weekly (most likely), so a season will take us between 2-3 months.

Those behind the Syndicate all have many years of OOTP experience. No funny stuff here. The commish(es) will not own clubs. Our league money will be kept in a separate Paypal account (totals available to owners at any time). At the end of each postseason, we will pay out our account down to zero as per our rules and then ask for each owner to purchase their club for the next season (@ .17/win). Statslab is up and will be used in the league, so talent levels are easily tracked. Again, no funny stuff. Just fun baseball with some cash on the line.

Please check out the rules for an indepth look at what the Syndicate will offer its owners. Our website is being developed and will be finalized by the end of the inaugural draft.

We are excited to get the Syndicate underway and look forward to your application! Questions? Please ask!

be careful - it's easy to cheat in online ootp leagues, and $$ may be enough incentive to get an unscrupulous owner in the mix.

remember that ootp dat files are not encrypted, so anyone with a binary reader can read exactly what other owners are making w/respect to free agent offers, draft picks, true player ratings, etc

This is what discouraged me

A year or two ago I wanted to do something like this but cheating is what stopped me. I figured if the buy in was just low enough to keep everyone interested and at the same time give an incentive for staying active it would be worth it but the possibility of cheating made me back off.

App sent.

Thanks.

It appears this went the way of the dodo bird?

I'm with lighthouse. If you can't make 100% sure that no one can cheat (or worse collude) to win at a pay OOTP league, your not going to get many people lining up to sign up.

I'd also talk to some ofthe longtime OOTP online commisioenrs like eMLBCommish, Corsairs or AlanT about unscrupulous GMs in just the regular free leagues before really diving into this.

They didn't get enough interest at the time, so they decided to launch a promotion/relegation league instead.

Cooley started and ran Total Sports World, where the eMLB is housed. He is also a long-time vet of the OOTP community...he's well-aware of those situations (especially one that happened in the eMLB).
