Sorry for Charlie and also for MizzouRah. Had to put my sweet old rescue dog down a few weeks ago, hoped she would have 3-4 years with us but only made it 2 1/2. It's never easy.

PilotMan 09-30-2013 04:57 PM

This was a perfect fit for this thread.

9GAG - My dog - the paradox

Lathum 09-30-2013 07:16 PM

good stuff

bhlloy 09-30-2013 07:22 PM

Saw that earlier... very rarely does something capture something so perfectly

BYU 14 09-30-2013 10:22 PM

That is awesome PM.

And Kodos, I missed this when you posted about Charlie, so sorry for your loss buddy.

bryce 11-10-2013 05:21 PM

Unfortunately it's my turn to add to this thread. My dog's story:

A Tribute to Vincey

DaddyTorgo 11-10-2013 06:26 PM

Damn - sorry bryce. Adorable lil girl.

AnalBumCover 11-10-2013 06:35 PM

Whenever I see this bumped, I hear the collective "Oh no!" resonating throughout the forum.

So sorry about Vincey, bryce.

It's a beautiful tribute to a beautiful life.

Thanks for sharing.

Edward64 11-10-2013 06:42 PM

Neat tribute. Thanks.

Neuqua 11-10-2013 06:59 PM

Ugh, my puppy just turned 1 last month. He's currently asleep at the foot of my couch with his head on my ankles. I'm getting weak.

molson 11-10-2013 10:52 PM

I remember a line from a poem or short story about dogs, about how their lives are "short and bright". That stuck with me. It really sucks when a dog's life is as short as Vincey's, but still, it was obviously hugely bright as well.

claphamsa 11-10-2013 11:36 PM

:(

Lathum 11-11-2013 06:09 AM

sorry to hear...

CleBrownsfan 11-11-2013 06:58 AM

Looks like Vincey had a very loving life.... RIP companion

BYU 14 11-11-2013 03:03 PM

Great tribute Bryce. She was a good one. Her spirit lives on.

GoldenEagle 11-11-2013 08:31 PM

Beautiful Bryce. Sorry for your loss.

path12 11-12-2013 07:44 PM

Just gave Norm a big hug.

Good article.. I was super close to our Golden.. he was like any other pet I've ever had and I still cry when I look at pictures of him.

My wife keeps talking about getting another puppy (we still have 2 dogs) but since Benny had epilepsy I'm not sure I could ever handle that again.

tarcone 11-22-2013 06:58 PM

Question: Never had a dog die. But I have a dog now. What do you do when your dog dies?

95% of the time they're sick first and it's all handled through a vet. It's not very often that dogs just die suddenly. When that happens, it's easiest to bury them. Or ask the vet if they or some other service in town picks up dead dogs for disposal. I think it's usually against city code to dispose of animals in the regular city trash, you'd have to just contact your city, and if they don't let you do it, they might tell you the name of a company that would handle it.

I had to say goodbye today to my best friend in the world. She came to me in August of 1992 and really helped me through the chaos that the next several years would bring along with any other time I was feeling down. While she was healthy she would purr any time I held her. When I was programming or playing computer games, she practically lived on the desk on between me and the keyboard. She lived through 4 years of failing kidneys and thyroid issues because she never gave me any trouble with the daily treatment that she needed. In October at her checkup the vet told me that her blood tests had shown pretty severe anemia. The tests for her thyroid and kidneys were in normal ranges so he was pretty sure that ultimately it was just her age of 21 catching up to her finally. I vowed that as long as she was still eating and seemed to be in good spirits I would do whatever she needed. She maintained some appetite and always accepted human food but last week she finally reached a point where almost any food she consumed came back up. When she fell from an already thin 6 pounds down to 4.8, I knew I couldn't watch her starve to death. RIP to my cat Kirat.

PilotMan 12-02-2013 05:34 PM

Sorry to hear Brian. That's quite a bond that the two of you shared. Twenty-one years is a really nice length for any relationship and it will be something that stays with you the rest of your life. RIP

Kodos 12-02-2013 05:44 PM

Very sorry to hear about you cat. You gave her a long, happy life, and the memories will last forever. R.I.P., Kirat.

CleBrownsfan 12-02-2013 05:55 PM

:( Sorry to see this bumped again. RIP Kirat...

General Mike 12-02-2013 06:26 PM

sorry Brian. :(

corbes 12-02-2013 07:21 PM

Sorry to hear Brian. Kirat sounds like she was a classy lady and a great companion for so long. Best wishes to you both...

claphamsa 12-02-2013 07:36 PM

Could not have said it better, so sorry for your loss Brian.

JonInMiddleGA 12-02-2013 09:12 PM

Lost a beloved cat to thyroid issues, I know what that's like far too well :(
My sincere condolences on your loss.

Sweed 12-02-2013 09:48 PM

Sorry Brien to hear about the loss of your cat. Lost my cat of 20 years last fall, it's hard.

HeavyReign 12-02-2013 10:40 PM

Thanks everyone for the comments. It has been a long day and it really does help. I was so lucky to have her for as long as I did.

MizzouRah 12-02-2013 10:42 PM

So sorry Brian.. :(

DanGarion 05-24-2014 09:00 PM

We had sort of adopted a stray cat outside that recently had kittens with the intention to adopt out the kittens once they got weaned. Even though we hadn't really been able to play with them yet we were growing close to them all.

So this morning started off terrible. We lost one of the kittens. The little guy had made his way into my engine compartment and when I started backing out of our driveway we saw him fall out. The trauma he sustained was bad enough that he just laid there trying to move. I stopped the car and rushed over to him and just sat there consoling him telling him I was sorry as his life left him. RIP Jinx.

Sweed 05-25-2014 08:19 AM

So sorry to hear about Jinx. That is so hard to deal with but unfortunately it isn't unusual for kittens to find that warm spot in the car. Don't be too hard on yourself you had no way of knowing he was there.

BYU 14 05-25-2014 09:02 AM

:(

MizzouRah 05-25-2014 10:38 AM

So sorry :(

JonInMiddleGA 05-25-2014 10:52 AM

So very sorry to hear this :(

DanGarion 05-25-2014 01:13 PM

Thanks everyone. I felt terrible about it since I knew one of the other ones had been climbing around my car. We already have 3 indoor cats or we would probably adopt them all. But it still sucks to lose a kitten.

General Mike 05-25-2014 01:34 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

claphamsa 05-25-2014 01:45 PM

:(

rowech 09-06-2014 05:08 AM

We had to put our dog down yesterday. I've never been an animal person and might never be. We had two dogs growing up, one accidentally killed by my dad and the other got away and never made it back. So Callie was the first pet I had to see through this end of life process. She had fought diabetes and blindness for 2.5 years now yet somehow just kept going. The last several days, the infections she had been able to fight off the last several years just couldn't be fought off. My wife bought her three months before she met me and I will always remember when I sat on Callie's seat on the couch when we were first dating. She was just so mad at me -- staring at me saying to get my ass up out of her spot. Without kids, and very likely never to have them, this is tearing my wife up and it's definitely hurting me more than I might have thought.

Edward64 09-06-2014 05:58 AM

Sorry to hear. Give it a little time and consider getting another dog when you guys are ready. We lost our Dalmation and got a Lab a couple years later.
