Finish 1-3, offense struggle to move the ball and didn't score a TD in the first two games.

2013 Roster

Injuries to the offensive line meant I had to pick up UDFAs RT Brandon Andrews and LT Terrance Pritchett on one year minsal deals.

Former 1st round pick Blaine Gabbert is relegated to third on the depth chart, although backup Ricky Stanzi is out for 4 weeks.

HC Gus Bradley seems to be relying heavily on the draft, as well as Joeckel waiting to slot in at LT there are rookie starters at both safety positions and LCB as well as a UDFA starting at LG.

2013 Week 1

Kansas City (1-0) 14 at Jacksonville (0-1) 3

Offensive woes continue into the regular season as Chad Henne is picked off twice and MJD manages just 38 yards on the ground. A beat-up and inexperienced offensive line allows 7 sacks.

2013 Week 2

Jacksonville (1-1) 17 at Oakland (0-2) 13

Offense bounces back with 331 yards and 2 TDs from Henne and 100 yard games from MJD on the ground and Cecil Shorts in the air.

Henne is named Offensive Player of the Week.

2013 Week 3

Jacksonville (1-2) 17 at Seattle (2-1) 20

A tough loss in difficult conditions as Seattle scored 10 unanswered points in the 4th quarter for the win. Henne threw two TDs again and Justin Blackmon had over 100 yards receiving and a score but we struggled on the ground.

2013 Week 4

Indianapolis (2-2) 13 at Jacksonville (2-2) 17

Two more TDs from Henne although the offensive struggled generally, it was down to the defense to contain stand-in Matt Hasselbeck. We still haven't scored in the 4th quarter of a game yet.

mrtourette 01-01-2014 09:11 PM

2013 Weeks 5

Jacksonville (3-2) 21 at St Louis (0-5) 14

Three scores from Henne and a 100 yard game from MJD saw us squeeze past a Kellen Clemens-led Rams.

2013 Week 6

Jacksonville (3-3) 10 at Denver (4-2) 34

Back down to earth with a bump as the defense can't help the offense out this week. Henne throws a pick-six but even without that the Broncos dominated in the air and on the ground.

2013 Week 7

San Diego (4-3) 20 at Jacksonville (3-4) 13

Once again the offense fails to generate much as both teams struggle to set the scoreboard alight. San Diego's five sacks looked to be the difference between the teams.

2013 Week 8

San Fransisco (8-0) 34 at Jacksonville (3-5) 10

San Fransisco's unbeaten record never looked in danger, even with Colt McCoy under centre. Two picks form Henne and two yards-per-carry from MJD were never going to be enough for a team who have only gone above 17 points once so far. Another six sacks given up.

mrtourette 01-01-2014 09:34 PM

2013 Week 10

Jacksonville (3-6) 11 at Tennessee (5-4) 19

More o-line woes as we fail to produce anything on the ground and not much more through the air. Four Rob Bironas field goals help the Titans easily past the 11 points that we can put up.

Elsewhere in the league Joe Flacco throws for 502 yards to help the struggling champion Ravens past the Bengals 37-34.

2013 Week 11

Arizona (4-6) 19 at Jacksonville (3-7) 17

Not even a 77-yard interception return for a TD by Paul Posluszny can help us past that magical 17-point barrier as the Cadinals rely on the leg of Jay Feeley with four field goals to inflict a fifth straight defeat.

2013 Week 12

Jacksonville (4-7) 13 at Houston (8-3) 6

An excellent defensive display helps us to a surprising divisional win against the high-flying Texans, who despite 139 yards for Arian Foster just could not punch it into the end zone.

2013 Week 13

Jacksonville (4-8) 17 at Cleveland (9-3) 20

A Chad Henne pick in the final minute sealed the defeat and ruined an otherwise good passing display, going for 349 yards and connecting with Justin Blackmon 14 times for 139 yards and a score.

mrtourette 01-01-2014 10:03 PM

2013 Week 14

Houston (9-4) 37 at Jacksonville (4-9) 9

The Texans get revenge for a week 11 defeat defeat by running all over us for over 200 yards in a lop-sided loss.

2013 Week 15

Buffalo (4-10) 19 at Jacksonville (5-9) 24

The defense hold Buffalo to just 166 total yards as Chad Henne throws three TD passes (along with two picks) for our highest total so far this year.

2013 Week 16

Tennessee (8-7) 22 at Jacksonville (6-9) 30

Another improvement by the offense, helped out by three Josh Scobee field goals and an 84-yard MJD TD run late in the 4th quarter.

Starting MLB Paul Posluszny suffered a broken fibula so will miss the last game of the season.

Elsewhere Eli Manning dropped 496 yards on the Lions and now is only 98 yards away from 5000 passing yards for the season.

2013 Week 17

Jacksonville (6-10) 19 at Indianapolis (5-10-1) 27

Three Trent Richardson TDs and a Chad Henne interception inside the two-minute warning deep in Indy territory sealed defeat for us.

2013 Recap

Not a bad season given the lack of talent and experience with some clear goals for improvement.

Defensively we did well in keeping points down and had the offense been firing the defense put us in positions to win more games than we did. However statistically pretty poor, sack leader was Jason Babin with only 6.5 and takeaways were appalling with only six interceptions in total.

Offensively there were issues, we didn't run the ball enough and passing game wasn't efficient enough to carry the offense. Definite line issues.

2014 Staff Changes

I decide to keep the same team together.

Dallas, Detroit, Carolina, Cincinnati and Oakland all hire new head coaches.

2014 Free Agency

C Brad Meester retired after 14 years as a Jaguar.

QB Blaine Gabbert (17/37) has been cut ending his disastrous stint as a Jaguar, while TE Marcedes Lewis (39/39) was politely told to take his $8mil-for-33 catches elsewhere, and found a new home in Tampa Bay.

The tough decision was made not to offer FA RB Maurice Jones-Drew (63/63) a new deal and as the top RB available he quickly signed a contract with New England. QB Chad Henne (39/46) was after crazy money after his mediocre season so he has not been re-signed. DT Kyle Love (50/53) was after starter money so was left to sign with San Diego.

T Cameron Bradfield (35/44) and DT Brandon Deaderick (51/53) were re-signed as projected starters as well as backup TE Clay Harbor (29/31).

With limited starting FA QBs available (Matt Schaub, Mark Sanchez) QB Luke McCown (26/26) was signed to mentor a young QB while RBs Darren McFadden (53/53) and Chris Johnson (53/53) were picked up on cheap two-year deals in the hope that one of them can regain their former glories. TE Dustin Keller (44/44) was signed after Jimmy Graham rejected an offer and signed with Tampa Bay instead, and G Shelley Smith (56/59) was signed to a five-year deal as an immediate upgrade.

2014 Draft

Heading into the draft attention to the following positions is needed:

Starters required - QB, C

Incumbent starters could be upgraded - RT, RDE, WLB

Depth needed - TE, RG, LDT, RDT

Not confident of picking up a top-level QB at #11, class looks weak and with Oakland and St Louis picking early the top prospects should be snapped up early.

TRADE - moved up four spots to take Arizona's #7 pick. Gave up first and third this year and third next year, also got Arizona's fourth round pick this year.

1.7 - Alvin Westphal (43/74), WLB, Houston
2.12 - Curtis Cromwell (25/65), RG, Colorado
4.8 - Cole Lovejoy (22/52), C, Oregon State
4.12 - Mitchell Frederickson (16/41), QB, Pittsburgh
5.11 - Will Malone (17/41), TE, Florida State
6.12 - Alvin Konigsberg (18/35), RDT, Nevada-Las Vegas
7.11 - Nick Delgado (16/33), LDT, Indiana

Draft grade B-

2014 Late Free Agency

WR Cecil Shorts (53/56) and DT Roy Miller (71/71) hold out but after their production last season I have no issue showing them the money.

Following the first round selection of Alvin Westphal incumbent starter WLB Geno Hayes (31/33) is cut. Due to earning starter money but not competing for a starting place LDE Jeremy Mincey (43/43) is also cut.

FB Marcel Reese (53/53) is signed.

Chad Henne signs a muti-year deal with Cleveland after rejecting offers from Houston and Cincinatti, Blaine Gabbert signs a one-year deal with Tampa Bay.

2014 Pre-season

Jacksonville sold 49,200 season tickets for the season out of a capacity of 67,200.

Went 2-2, seemd to be a better mix of run and pass but still struggled to put points on the board.

No major injuries, FB Marcel Reece broke his wrist and will be out for a few weeks while LT Luke Joeckel and RB Chris Johnson are carrying strained hamstrings into week one.

2014 Roster

The glaring weakness is at QB and it'll be on my head if it causes us to fail. Ricky Stanzi gets the nod ahead of rookie Mitchell Fredrickson, with HC Gus Bradley seeing Luke McCown as a mentor for the two rather than a legitimate option.

RDE Andre Branch gets promoted on the depth chart ahead of last year's sack leader Jason Babin.

2014 Week 1

Jacksonville (0-1) 6 at Houston (1-0) 16

Normal service is resumed as the offense can only muster up 227 total yards, running only 15 run plays. TJ Yates connects with Andre Johnson in the 4th quarter for the only TD of the game.

2014 Week 2

Philadelphia (2-0) 23 at Jacksonville (0-2) 17

We take to the air once more with predictable results as Ricky Stanzi completes just 23/59 attempts. We turnover on downs on our last two possessions, both in Philly territory.

2014 Week 3

Buffalo (1-2) 21 at Jacksonville (0-3) 20

Pick-sixes from FS Dwight Lowery and WLB Alvin Westphal aren't enough to overcome the Bills who win after Kevin Kolb connects with Marquise Goodwin with two seconds remaining.

2014 Week 4

Cincinnati (2-2) 24 at Jacksonville (0-4) 10

James Harrison picks of Ricky Stanzi in the last two minutes and takes it back for six to end any hopes of a comeback. Inefficient passing attack and a non-existent running game hold us back yet again. Five sacks given up.

mrtourette 01-03-2014 05:26 PM

2014 Week 5

Cleveland (3-2) 38 at Jacksonville (0-5) 13

A complete blowout as Chad Henne comes back to Florida to throw three TDs in contrast to Ricky Stanzi's three picks. Still running 3:1 ratio of passing plays to running play. Rookie QB Mitchell Fredricksen sees his first action of the season, to little effect.

2014 Week 6

Jacksonville (0-6) 22 at Indianapolis (2-4) 26

A much better performance with over 300 yards in the air and over 100 on the ground but ultimately fruitless as the Colts win on the back of 155 receiving yard from TY Hilton.

2014 Week 7

Jacksonville (0-7) 10 at Pittsburgh (4-3) 16

For the first time this season we have more offensive yards than our opponent but the result is still the same after our o-line give up six sacks and three 4th quarter field goals see Pittsburgh home.

2014 Week 8

Jacksonville (0-8) 17 at Baltimore (6-2) 27

Both Ricky Stanzi and Mitchell Fredrickson throw TD passes but 169 total yards and three TDs from Ray Rice see Baltimore safely to victory.

2014 Week 9

Tennessee (2-6) 9 at Jacksonville (1-8) 17

Aside from an 84-yard Darren McFadden TD run late in the third this was a pretty sloppy offensive performance but enough to see us past an equally stuttering Tennessee.

Starting FS Dwight Lowery is done for the season after rupturing his achilles tendon while RT Cameron Bradfield will struggle to get back to full strength by the end of the year after breaking his arm.

2014 Week 11

Houston (5-5) 3 at Jacksonville (2-8) 27

The defense kept Houston to just 75 yards on the ground and Chris Johnson ran for 146 yards and a score and added another through the air in this impressive victory.

2014 Week 12

Jacksonville (3-8) 25 at Dallas (2-9) 17

Six field goals from Josh Scobee and a 100-yard game from Chris Johnson see us on our way to a third successive victory, coincidentally three games in which we've had a much closer pass:run ratio than earlier in the season.

2014 Week 13

Jacksonville (4-8) 17 at San Diego (5-7) 9

A fourth straight win on the back of a tight defensive display, including two picks and four sacks. Both offenses struggled through the air and while the Chargers were efficient on the ground they weren't able to turn it into points.

Rookie RG Curtis Cromwell is likely done for the season after suffering a stress fracture in his foot.

mrtourette 01-03-2014 07:26 PM

2014 Week 14

Washington (5-8) 40 at Jacksonville (4-9) 24

Darren McFadden scored on an 80-yard punt return and a 5-yard run but we struggled to keep up with Washington's offense and were forced to abandon the run and rely on Ricky Stanzi's arm, which never works out well. Alfred Morris has 209 total yards and two TDs for Washington.

Elsewhere in the league Adrian Peterson ran for 206 yards against Buffalo and looks set to retain his rushing champion crown.

2014 Week 15

Indianapolis (5-9) 17 at Jacksonville (5-9) 30

Ricky Stanzi throws for two TDs and runs for another as we hit 30 points for the first time this season. Darren McFadden also turns in a 100-yard performance in a balanced offensive attack.

2014 Week 16

Jacksonville (5-10) 17 at New York Giants (10-4-1) 24

Three picks weren't enough to prevent Eli Manning leading the Giants to victory as we struggled on the ground and could only manage a paltry 36 yards.

2014 Week 17

Jacksonville (5-11) 13 at Tennessee (6-10) 38

Four TD passes by Jake Locker lead the Titans to an end of season rout as yet again we fail to get the ground game up and running. A 100-yard game and TD catch from Cecil Shorts is the only bright spot.

2014 Recap

Given the messed-up QB situation the record may not look to bad but there was a frustrating tendency to rely on the pass, especially damaging given the inexperience at that position.

Defensively again we did well in keeping points down and we had more than twice as many interceptions than last year, but the number of sacks were down as we struggled to get to the opposition QB.

2014 GM Assessment

Team performance 10/100 (-18)
Franchise value 87/100 (-3)
Profit/loss 90/100 (-1)
Roster strength 33/100 (-1)

2015 Staff Changes

Jedd Fisch was fired as Offensive Coordinator and replaced by Justin Lynch.

Indianapolis, Washington, Tennessee, New Orleans, Tampa Bay and St Louis all hire new head coaches.

2015 Free Agency

A much quieter FA period, QBs Ricky Stanzi and Luke McCown will not be re-signed and instead Derek Anderson (36/36) had been signed to both mentor and offer a legitimate starting option.

Starting SLB Russell Allen (43/43) is re-signed along with backups WR Jeremy Ebert (39/44), LT Terrance Pritchett (28/39) and RT Brandon Andrews (31/40).

Why arent you running the ball more? I know you were behind most of the games, but they were close. And your strongest offensive weapon is your DMC and CJ2K combo. Yet you are 30th in rush attempts.

Good luck next year. Let's hope there's some quality at QB in the draft :-)

Thanks dude.

I'm not really sure about the playcalling, it's pretty frustrating. I'm leaving the game plans to the coaches but it dosn't make sense that they'd have a crappy QB throw the ball 60 times and only call 15 running plays.

Anyway I've replaced my OC with one with a much better playcalling rating so hopefully that will improve the situation. I've yet to determine exactly what drives the plays being called if it isn't the standard of personnel.

BELCO Gameplan Library

Since I can see you joined in december 2013, I don't know if you've seen the above collection of offensive gameplans available here on FOFC. They're made for FOF2007, but I believe they're working in this version as well. I've had succes running the Smash Mouth gameplan slightly tweaked in this new version as well. (Actually with the Jaguars:-P) The link is for the thread where you can download and read about the gameplans.

2015 Draft

Heading into the draft attention to the following positions is needed:

Starters required -

Incumbent starters could be upgraded - RT, LDE, RDT, SLB

Depth needed - TE, RB, WR, LG, SS

A couple of early 1st round QBs so should be abe to pick one up with the #3 pick. Some excellent tackles at the top of the draft as well.

1.3 - Eric Cook (12/73), QB, East Carolina
2.9 - Lucas Tejeda (20/36), LDE, Arizona State
4.7 - Gilbert Lyon (24/41), LG, Minnesota
5.6 - Rex Thomas (20/23), RB, South Carolina
6.5 - Tony Fink (19/26), WR, Missouri
7.4 - Bennett Lonier (19/48), C, Georgia

Draft grade B

2015 Late Free Agency

WR Justin Blackmon (44/44) is holding out, his overall rating isn't great but he is productive and his individual stats are better than any FA WR out there. It seems he's after the years rather than the money as his new deal wouldn't be worth any more than his salary this year, but he certainly won't get what he's after for future years if he hits the open market after the season. Will wait and see if he ends it himself, if not will probably offer him a new deal.

To pad out the depth chart I pick up SLB Jay Wright (44/44) and UDFAs TE Kevin Hamilton (19/34) and WR Geoff Flannery (18/38), and re-sign backup SS Chris Prosinski (34/34).

Thanks, should provide some interesting reading.

As part of the set up for this I was hoping to leave game decisions to the coaches and that the AI would make sensible recommendations (ie if the RBs are better than the QBs and o-line better at run blocking than pass blocking they would choose to run the ball) but if not I'll have to look into a game plan and 'step in'.

WR Geoff Flannery (18/38) now 20/37

2015 Pre-season

Jacksonville sold 47,300 season tickets for the season out of a capacity of 67,200.

After missing training camp WR Justin Blackmon ends his hold out.

Two trades rejected - Cincinnati offered a 4th round pick for QB Mitchell Fredrickson and the Jets offer a 5th rounder for starting C Cole Lovejoy.

Went 0-4, running game terrible, all three QBs played OK without any of them distancing themselves from the other two.

FB Marcel Reece's wrist problems continue as he suffers a torn wrist tendon and is out for about eight weeks. UDFA FB Kent Lavorin (20/37) is signed to cover.

Starters RT Cameron Bradfield (broken clavicle) and FS Dwight Lowery (hyperextended knee) will miss the start of the season and potentially up to five weeks.

Actually I'm pretty much leaving it up to the AI at the moment as well. Seems to be doing a decent job on it.

2015 Roster

Derek Anderson starts at QB with 1st round pick Eric Cook backing up.

FA signing SLB Jay White wins the starting job over incumbent SLB Russell Allen.

Worrying signs regarding former #2 pick LT Luke Joeckel, who seems to be regressing going from 64/70 at this point last year down to 39/39.

2015 Week 1

Indianapolis (1-0) 23 at Jacksonville (0-1) 20

Derek Anderson threw a pick-six in the final five minutes and Josh Scobee missed a 41-yard field goal with 14 seconds remaining to consign us to defeat. WR Cecil Shorts pulls in 11 catches for 175 yards and a TD.

RB Chris Johnson suffers a torn wrist tendon and will be out for several weeks.

Elsewhere in the league Seattle DE Michael Bennett racks up 5.5 sacks against Arizona to kick of his attempt at a third straight sack leader title.

2015 Week 2

Jacksonville (0-2) 11 at Tampa Bay (1-1) 36

Tampa raced into a 21-point lead and then relied on five Connor Bath field goals to seal an easy victory. Derek Anderson was sacked seven times as the offense produced nothing of any note other than a late 80-yard TD pass from Anderson to WR Jeremy Ebert.

2015 Week 3

Jacksonville (1-2) 20 at Oakland (2-1) 17

DE Tyson Alualu gets two sacks and WR Cecil Shorts goes over 100 yards again as we notch up our fist win of the season. MLB Paul Posluszny intercepted intercepted Rondell Couch in the dying seconds to send the game into OT which Josh Scobee settles with a 31-yard field goal.

2015 Week 4

New York Jets (3-1) 23 at Jacksonville (2-2) 35

Three TD passes by Derek Anderson and three picks from the defense, two returned for TDs, seal an impressive victory.

mrtourette 01-05-2014 12:05 PM

2015 Week 5

Miami (3-2) 18 at Jacksonville (2-3) 6

Four field goals and a Derek Anderson fumble (from one of six sacks) returned for a TD gave the Dolphins an easy victory against an inept Jacksonville offense.

2015 Week 6

Jacksonville (2-4) 16 at Indianapolis (5-1) 31

Three picks from Derek Anderson, one returned for a TD, give Indy the victory even after the Jacksonville offense outguns the Colts 406 yards to 205 and 27 first downs to 10.

Rookie QB Eric Cook is reportedly unhappy at not seeing any playing time.

2015 Week 7

Tennessee (4-3) 14 at Jacksonville (3-4) 21

Two rushing TDs from Darren McFadden and 325 yards in the air from Derek Anderson gave us the victory in a pretty uneventful game.

2015 Week 9

Jacksonville (4-4) 16 at Buffalo (2-6) 9

Three Josh Scobee field goals saw us past the Bills and to .500 at the half-way point of the season. 1st round pick QB Eric Cook saw his first action and went 7/13 for 46 yards and a pick.

QB Derek Anderson blows his ACL and will miss the rest of the season and possibly the start of the next. Luke McCown is re-signed as cover.

mrtourette 01-05-2014 01:26 PM

2015 Week 10

Jacksonville (4-5) 23 at New England (8-1) 24

We throw away what would have been a great victory as Tom Brady throws three 4th quarter TDs to rally the Pats from a 20-point deficit and then Eric Cook is picked off with a minute remaining.

RB Chris Johnson's injury-hit season continues as he pulls a calf muscle and will miss a few weeks.

2015 Week 11

Houston (8-1) 20 at Jacksonville (4-6) 12

We outgain the Texans offense but can still only muster four Josh Scobee field goals and despite keeping Jay Cutler to just 164 yards and a pick two early rushing TDs see Houston safely home.

2015 Week 12

Carolina (6-5) 14 at Jacksonville (5-6) 41

We put up more than 40 points for the first time in my tenure thanks to three TD passes by Eric Cook and two picks from Alvin Westphal, one returned for six.

2015 Week 13

Pittsburgh (10-2) 20 at Jacksonville (5-7) 12

Three sacks from LaMarr Woodley help the Steelers stifle our attack and although we seem to hit our stride on the ground it's a rough day for both offenses.

mrtourette 01-05-2014 02:20 PM

2015 Week 14

Atlanta (3-10) 6 at Jacksonville (6-7) 27

A comfortable win against the struggling Falcons with good performances on both sides of the ball. The running game was entrusted with the ball with nearly twice as many rushing plays called than passes.

2015 Week 15

Jacksonville (6-8) 17 at Tennessee (8-6) 20

The result makes this game look a lot closer than it was as our defense allows 545 total yards. An Eric Cook TD pass and successful two-point conversion with two minutes left sent the game to OT but a Rob Bironas field goal deservedly won it for the Titans.

2015 Week 16

Jacksonville (6-9) 10 at New Orleans (11-4) 40

A routine win for the Saints as Drew Brees throws for 417 yards and three TDs and former Jags RG Maurice Jones-Drew goes in on the ground. Our o-line gives up five sacks.

2015 Week 17

Jacksonville (6-10) 10 at Houston (13-3) 27

A defeat against the division champions to round out a third consecutive losing season as the Texans easily dealt with out insipid offense, with a TD reception from Darren McFadden as the only highlight of the day.

2015 Recap

Defense continues to improve with an increase in sacks and interceptions as well as fewer yards per carry and rushing and receiving yards per game.

Better play at QB (to be honest it couldn't have been much worse) but still not enough use of the running game.

Franchise value 85/100 (-2)
