West Coast League: Conference Selection

We now know that we are using 4 conferences of 3 players each. I thought of a variety of ways to do this, but this seems the best. Each member should name the 4 conferences they want included. Any conference that is a clear winner will be one of our conferences. If it is close (within a vote) for the 3rd or 4th spot, we'll use polls to determine the winner.

Eaglesfan27 06-18-2008 07:13 AM

For reference, here is the list of teams under 80 overall (which I'm expecting to be the clear winner when we do that poll.):

Here is a list of teams under 80 in the major conferences from a post in the East Coast League:

I had selected the Pac 10, but I'm a bit worried that whoever is in that conference will be able to get too many of the 5 star recruits from CA that want to stay local but don't get picked up by USC/UCLA...so I switched to Big East.

Just curious, does order matter? Does the first rank conference get more votes? Or do you just add up the total votes?

Eaglesfan27 06-18-2008 10:56 AM

Order doesn't matter. Just adding up total votes. Then we'll use polls to finalize things if they aren't 4 clear winners.

Outside of USC and UCLA, you got Cal and Stanford. Throw in schools from the mid-majors. I think that it will be tough to get 4 and 5 star recruits, as national powerhouses will recruit them hard as well.

Agreed. Also, they lowered the number of 5 star recruits last year if I recall correctly.

Galaxy 06-18-2008 11:01 AM

Does conference prestige matter to recruits? Hopefully you can build state pipelines.

Kodos 06-18-2008 11:16 AM

If anyone doesn't care, please vote for the Big Ten. :)

Galaxy 06-18-2008 11:22 AM

Has cartman responded at all?

Sun Tzu 06-18-2008 11:26 AM

Ok Ok. I switched back to the Pac 10. You convinced me :)

Honestly, I'd be happy with just about anything really. I watch college ball as a fan just in general. Since I don't route hard for any specific team, I'm not particular to any conference...I just live in Pac 10-ville.

Cartman has been pretty unresponsive just in general. I PMed him along with Raiders Army and KCChief19 just as a heads up that we got our own subforum. Not really sure what to make of it as he has posted in other threads since I PM'ed him.

Perhaps ping him in the regular forum?

Sun Tzu 06-18-2008 04:43 PM

Ok well...in case nobody saw the thread, cartman is @ the WSOP.

Eaglesfan27 06-18-2008 05:24 PM

No big deal, we have plenty of time until the game drops, plus for some of the votes, 1 vote won't matter.

It's still early, but the Big 12 is looking good with a vote from every person who has voted so far.

The Big 12 could be a fun, and interesting, conference.

With half the votes in, here's our tally so far.

I've been thinking about which teams are most likely to get taken early in the draft with each conference, and I figure Kansas and Texas A&M are the most likely to go early in the draft from this conference. Definitely, some interesting possibilities available.

It would be a tough conference with the teams and the recruiting resources they have. Recruiting in Texas (as rich as it is) would be extremely tough. You got the four Big 12 conference Texas schools (Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor); the bordering school powers (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, LSU, Arkansas, ect.), the national powers who can recruit any place, and a large number of mid-major programs in Texas (SMU, TCU, Houston, Rice, North Texas, ect.).

Looks like we might have to another round of voting to break the tie-breakers.

I think one more vote for the Big 12, and that's a lock.

Sun Tzu 06-18-2008 08:40 PM

Still waiting on Hell Atlantic, KcChief19, and bhlloy.

Eaglesfan27 06-19-2008 07:15 AM

Also waiting on Cartman and Terps. With 5 outstanding votes, no conference is a lock, yet. If my calculations are correct, the Big 12 actually needs 3 more votes (or for other conferences not to get votes on ballots) to be a clear lock.

Kodos 06-19-2008 08:18 AM

Terps already voted. :)

bhlloy 06-19-2008 08:47 AM

Pac 10
Big East
ACC
SEC

Sun Tzu 06-19-2008 09:08 AM

So with 12 members and 7 votes for the Big 12, that one is already a lock. If we assume that cartman wont be voting because he's in Vegas (I sure as hell know I wouldn't be voting) then a conference would only need 6 out of 11 to be a lock. That puts the ACC and the Big East into the locked category too. Now we're just waiting to see if both Kcchief19 and Hell Atlantic vote for either the Big 10 or the SEC without droping a single vote on the Pac 10. There are other possibilities where we could have to have another tie breaker poll, but with only 6 conferences to choose from total the chances of that happening are pretty slim.

Big 12 - 8
ACC - 7
Big East - 7
Pac 10 - 5
Big 10 - 5
SEC - 4

Eaglesfan27 06-19-2008 09:37 AM

No, the Big 12 isn't a lock. If the next 5 members don't vote for it, but all vote for the ACC, Big East, Pac 10, and Big 10, then it wouldn't have the required number of votes to be selected.

Eaglesfan27 06-19-2008 09:38 AM

My bad. I went quickly when trying to figure out who hasn't voted yet.

Eaglesfan27 06-19-2008 09:43 AM

Double Dola -

We are waiting on Sir Fozzie (which is who I forgot when I missed Terps.) Also, waiting on Hell Atlantic, Kcchief19, and Cartman. With the vote being close, I don't think this will get resolved until Cartman gets back. His votes will matter, particularly in the 3rd and 4th spot. Remember, the winners all could have 8 or 9 votes each for them.

Sun Tzu 06-19-2008 09:55 AM

You're right...doh.

Sun Tzu 06-19-2008 10:09 AM

dola

I just realised that I never told Sir Fozzie that we have a subforum. My fault for letting that slip through the cracks. I PM'ed him.

Now, with 3 voters left, 1 more vote for the Big 12 makes it a lock. 2 votes for the ACC or Big East would make them a lock.

sorry for taking so long, Galaxy actually reminded me in the NCAA '09 demo thread. all the excitement of OOTP9 distractred me. and i think i got so used to seeing polls in order to cast a vote it didn't click with me that i just needed to write in my vote.

thanks to everyone who is tallying this up and setting up all the polls. i like that a lot of focus and commitment is being put forth.

when the league gets up and rolling, we should have a thread of all highlights. that'd be awesome. nice way to keep all the highlights in one central place.

Galaxy 06-19-2008 03:23 PM

So we just need Kcchief19 and cartman.

Agreed about the thread for highlights. Also, in a day or two, once we have a few more things in place, I'm going to start a central thread that summarizes all of the rules, conferences, etc.

I've been in Vegas since the weekend, and haven't been on the board much at all. The Big 12 works for me as well.
