Rate The Last Movie You Watched

I'm going to kick this off, all this requires is that you post the last movie you watched, and rank it out of 10.

I just watched Four Brothers yesterday, happens to be a new movie. 7.5/10

PackerFanatic 08-15-2005 02:35 PM

Unforunately, it was Sideways last night. 1/10

I didn't like it much at all.

Karlifornia 08-15-2005 02:38 PM

Teenagers From Outer Space-0/10

in theaters: Skeleton Key-6/10 (I think voodoo is cooldood)

Warhammer 08-15-2005 02:39 PM

Star Wars - 9.5/10

Oh, man, you're killing me! That was a great flick.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but...

Constantine = 2/10

Mustang 08-15-2005 02:41 PM

Contact - 8/10

Johnny93g 08-15-2005 02:41 PM

Mr. 3000

4/10...funny but predictable

Raven 08-15-2005 02:43 PM

I Spy (w/ Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson) 6.5/10

Had a few great scenes where Eddie was his old self. I'm talking 48 Hours/Beverly Hills Cop Eddie funny. Owen was his normal funny self, but the movie needed a little bit more to get a better rating from me.

Im with you, it was one of the very few movies ive ever had too turn off. I wasnt expecting much, i just wanted to be entertained on a lazy sunday, but my god does it suck balls. If only the whole movie could have been like the 1st 10 minutes.

Easily, 0/10.

Mr. Wednesday 08-15-2005 02:45 PM

Mr. & Mrs. Smith 6/10 - Fun movie, but nothing that sticks with me. I doubt I'll have any interest in owning it or watching it again.

(It was part of a double feature with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which I would give 8/10.)

rafini 08-15-2005 02:47 PM

War of the Worlds
5/10
Good special effects, but I thought there were some holes in the story.

QuikSand 08-15-2005 02:49 PM

The Aristocrats
8.5/10

kingfc22 08-15-2005 02:51 PM

Tears of the Sun
7.5/10

HomerJSimpson 08-15-2005 02:51 PM

Marci X: 4/10 (It could have been lower, because it was a really dumb movie, but there were a few lines/parodies that made me laugh, so I can't completely kill it)

bronconick 08-15-2005 02:54 PM

Alexander (roommate rented it and left it out) 0/10

Turned it off midway. The History channel special was more *entertaining* then this, not to mention the historical inaccuracy. When Gaugamela is over in the first 45 minutes, you know it's going to suck.

Godzilla Blitz 08-15-2005 03:00 PM

War of the Worlds
5.5/10

WSUCougar 08-15-2005 03:02 PM

You War of the Worlds raters, can you explain what you didn't like? I'd probably give it a 7 or 8 myself.

Radii 08-15-2005 03:03 PM

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: 4/10

mauchow 08-15-2005 03:03 PM

Saw - 8/10

Vince 08-15-2005 03:04 PM

Re-watched Boondock Saints. 10/10.

Recent new movie I watched -- Fantastic Four. 6.5/10 -- solid, but unspectacular.

Sublime 2 08-15-2005 03:04 PM

DVD: Hostage 7/10
Theatre: Charlie & the Chocolate factory 8/10

Judging by the score, I'd venture to guess that you'd recommend this. What I want to know is if it's worth going to the theater to see, instead of waiting to pay half price at the video store?

sabotai 08-15-2005 03:05 PM

Spanglish - 6.5/10 (or 6/10 if we're not allowed to give half points. :) )

It was decent, but nothing all that special.

QuikSand 08-15-2005 03:06 PM

It's funny as hell, pretty much as billed. There's certainly nothing so special about it that makes it a "big screen" type of movie (no spectacular scenery, stunts, or sound of course) - I just couldn't imagine waiting months to see it to save a few bucks. Mrs. Q also insisted that we go - she loved it, too.

Calis 08-15-2005 03:14 PM

Downfall- 8.9

Not really sure what to say about this one, great all around. Great casting, excellent performances, very tense, and just an all-around interesting story, and done very well. Highly recommended

Schmidty 08-15-2005 03:20 PM

Below (DVD)

7/10

VPI97 08-15-2005 03:23 PM

TV : Once upon a Time in China - 8/10 - Early Jet Li
Theater : Mr. & Mrs. Smith - 8/10 - I had low expectations, but found that I enjoyed it more than most other movies that my wife picks out.

Logan 08-15-2005 03:26 PM

The Day After Tomorrow - 5/10

Celeval 08-15-2005 03:27 PM

Must Love Dogs - 6.5/10

amdaily 08-15-2005 03:31 PM

Downfall

Movie itself = 9/10
Being in German and having to read subtitles = 7.5/10 :(

Raven Hawk 08-15-2005 03:35 PM

50 First Dates - 6/10

Not one of Sandler's best, but still entertaining. It exceede my expectations, but my expectations were set at 3/10. Funny movie, worth catching on cable.

timmynausea 08-15-2005 03:39 PM

Cheap Theatre - Dark Water 1/10
Real Theatre - Devil's Rejects 5/10
DVD - Undertow 8/10

I want to go see Broken Flowers and Junebug if they ever come around here.

John Galt 08-15-2005 03:40 PM

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle

7.5/10 - Close to perfect execution, but overall score reduced by inherent limitations of the stoner adventure genre.

Good
Big alien thingies blow up lots of stuff.
(I thought the alien tripod thingies were awesome.)

The way the movie captures the confusion and fear of the invasion.
(The whole storm, alien's erupt from Earth touch was well done, I thought. The scenes of destruction were well done.)

Some action sequences and the special effects that went with them.
(I thought some of the action sequences were spectacularly well done.)

Bad
The ending
(Not sure why it bothered me now. I liked the original version and assumed this one would end the same way. Somehow it seemed more contrived this time. Almost as if it were a cop out.)

The sub-story
(The "deadbeat dad becomes hero/go to Boston" story seemed jumbled, weak, clunky, and unconvincing. And where was everyone going anyway? Were they all trying to go to Boston? Why? I'm not sure I ever figured that out. Maybe it had something to do with the Red Sox?)

Pacing of movie. Too much time in basements
(In particular, the Tim Robbins episode in the basement. Much too long, and didn't really do much, IMHO, to advance anything in the story. Almost felt like the movie went on pause here.)

Scope of movie
(Although in many ways, I think they captured the fear and confusion of the invasion well, I think they should have done more to give a sense of the global scale of the invasion other than the various rumors and one scene in the news truck. I admit, the way they played the story out it would have been unlikely that the characters would have access to this info, but still, I thought they should have captured the invasion on larger scale.)

Acting
(None of the actors seemed to reach anything close to their potential here. I actually like some of Tom Cruise's work and really enjoy a lot of Tim Robbins' stuff, but neither of them seemed particularly effective here. The kids were, well, kids. Neither impressed me.)

No Godzilla Appearance
(As my good friend Yuusui says, "Think of any movie you know. Now add Godzilla. Better movie." This movie, especially, had tons of Godzilla potential. If it were my movie, I would have had Godzilla sweep in and kill all the aliens at the end. That would have rocked. You know it.)

Fouts 08-15-2005 03:45 PM

Wow, I never see double features for big movies around here. That's cool.

Wedding Crashers 7.5/10

Memories of Murder. A Korean film I found on comcast On Demand. 8/10

Ok, so they had to cheap it out on the monster, but this is pretty good 50's B-Grade sci-fi. Not campy, but an intriguing story of an invader from a conformist society to learns to question authority.

Anyhoo,
Fantastic Four (Roger Corman version) 7/10, helluva a good job for $2 million and his Thing looks better.

moriarty 08-15-2005 04:03 PM

The machinist 7/10.

Pretty weird - with a rather disgusting, but amazing portrayal by Christian Bale (Batman). Not quite the huge payoff I was hoping for, but solid flick.

I saw that recently and was struck at how thin he looked, it sure didn't look healthy. I enjoyed the story though. I watched The Jacket the same night, and my mind was all messed up.

Um, Sideways was a 9 easy. I've seen it at least a dozen times.

Anyway, I ordered some DVDs the other day, stuff I've been meaning to watch for a long, long time.

Love Wes Anderson but hadn't seen Bottle Rocket--was underwhelmed by it: 6/10.

Love PT Anderson but hadn't seen Hard Eight--it just further cemented my opinion that he's the greatest writer/director around: 8/10.

Had never seen a Todd Solondz movie so I got Happiness--pretty thoroughly detested it: 2/10.

Watched that the other night also, I really enjoyed it. It was so...off, but I really liked how it wrapped up, interesting take.

Yeah I was reading that he dropped liked 65 pounds for the role, he was at about 120 for filming, and he looked disgusting. Was really creepy, being a big Christian Bale fan, to see him look that disturbing. I can understand people packing on some pounds to do a role, but I hadn't seen anyone get that sickly skinny before.

LloydLungs 08-15-2005 04:29 PM

American Movie... 5/10

Interesting story to some extent, but you have to be REALLY into the pothead caricature to enjoy the film. Basically Ed Wood, except stoned out of his mind.

And I agree with the above poster -- Teenagers From Outer Space, while incredibly cheesy, is one of the most watchable MST3K movies they ever did.

Eaglesfan27 08-15-2005 04:29 PM

The Grudge: 3/10. It was predictable and wasn't scary. Not good for a horror movie.
