The NBA 2010 offseason/draft thread
where will lebron play in the fall? Chitown is where I would go.
|
He's going to resign with Cleveland.
|
I think he heads to Vancouver to play alongside the Sedins.
|
The sports world needs to find a way to get Lebron and Favre on the golf course together.
|
If there was a poll I would vote for Chicago. At least I think he *should* go there.
|
the difference in year 1-5 money is around 6M. So any reporter who tosses around the 30M figure is sloppy.

After seeing what I saw in the 4th quarter, I don't see any way that happens. |
Not so sure I wouldn't rather have Wade on my team. But that said, I think he ends up in either New York or Chicago, probably giving the edge to NY. He'll want to blaze his own trail away from the Jordan comparisons.
|
The answer is NOT in Cleveland. Cavs will be awful next year. Mike Brown will get fired midway through the season and the Cavs will finish with a Top 5 Lottery pick. Bump this thread next year and I'll be 100% on this one.
|
Up until a few nights ago I would have guessed he was staying in Cleveland. The way he just quit on this team tells me he is gone.
|
Mike Brown gets fired on Friday.

I will bet you a large sum of money you aren't 100% correct. Mike Brown won't be the head coach of the Cavs next week, much less by mid season of next year. I don't know about the rest, but Brown will not coach Cleveland next year. I also don't think the Cavs finish with a top five lottery pick. They have an owner who cares and talent on the roster. Moe, Varejo, Jamison will get them into the 8th seed in the L EAST or at least in contention for it. Where Bron goes? Well, if he wants titles, he either goes to the Clippers, the Bulls or the Heat to play with DWade. But he'll be a Knick. I thought he'd be a knick before the season started and nothing has changed my mind on that. He dropped hints on that a long time ago and with the Knicks now able to sign two big names, I think he's in NY next year. |
I heard from some insiders that Mike Anderson will be the next coach of the Cavaliers.
|
Yeah -- hard to see Brown surviving this.
What are the chances for New Jersey? Do they have cap room to get him some supporting cast? If they end up with the #1, they can give him John Wall. If they end up w/ #2, Evan Turner can probably bring a decent return (or you could play him w/ LeBron). |
Also... what happens to Shaq?
|
doesn't Golden State play in Chokeland? That is my pick.

Diabetes? |

That's not what Wilford Brimley calls it. I think Shaq got divorced, so I assume that is why he won't quit. |
If he chooses New York, isn't he just saying that he doesn't care about winning? I could have seen it if he won it all this year, but doesn't he risk falling into Karl Malone territory if he goes to a bad team and continues to flop in the playoffs?
|
And if Lebron doesn't pick Chicago, I hope he goes to the Clippers. I think it would be an awesome dynamic in that city and seeing the Lakers slowly turn into the 2nd team in town over the course of the next decade.
|
I honestly cant see one benefit in him going to the Clippers. Does he really want to take a backseat to the Lake show? Even if the Clippers won 3 straight championships they'd still be the "other" team.
|
Out of curiousity, how much of a luxury hit would a team like the Lakers take if they decided to sign him? Or are they even allowed to?
|
I can only imagine how disheartening this must feel for Cavs fans and how it must've sucked for stevew to even start this thread.
That said, I think the Bulls have the perfect squad to make a long run as contenders. Lebron's a better fit than Wade would be here. |

Would have to be in a sign and trade |
Quote:
i'm pretty sure it only applies to trades. ie: you can't sign fa's and go over the cap. but you can trade for guys and go over. it would have to be a sign and deal for a team like the lakers. otherwise, guys like cuban or that russian billionaire wouldn't give a fuck about the luxury. edit: sorry didn't mean to step on ya mrbug. simultaneousness. |

You havent been to LA Im assuming;) Take a trip to LA for a week and you will see what I am talking about. |
why would he share the spotlight with kobe when he could go to ny and be a god?
|

You're not getting it. The Lakers will still be considered the #1 team in LA, just like the fucking Scrubs are still considered the #1 team in Chicago, even after we won the World Series in 2005. |

The Clippers immediately become the hottest ticket in town if Lebron goes there. Sure he shares it and maybe takes a backseat the first year or two, but as Kobe ages and that team's window ends, the Clippers become the dominant team. I think you underestimate Lebron's star power. He's more media friendly than Kobe. |

Sorry Rainmaker but you are far off on this one. The Lakers have one of the most loyal and well backed fanbases in all of sports. Its like saying the Mets by trading for Johan Santana would take New York from the Yankees. Oh wait that didnt happen either. |

If the "only thing that matters" is winning a Championship, I expect to see him sign a 3 year midlevel deal with the Lakers.
In the end, I think the Cavs front office did whatever they could to build a championship team around him. And it just wasn't enough. I feel bad for Dan Gilbert, that dude really wants to win. |

Ron Mercer? |

And the Clippers arent near as big in LA as the Mets are in New York so can we call it a tie? |
I don't know then. I just think it would be fun to see from an outsider's perspective.

Worst. Argument. Ever. |
Yes, the Clippers are where all the top free agents land.
Good call. |

Agree 100%. |
why does everyone assume the knicks will suck? everything they've done for the past 2 year was set up for this fa class. you would think they have a game plan.
boston made 2 trades and won a championship. |
I don't think LeBron comes back to Cleveland. NY or Chicago I would guess. Chicago would make more sense from a basketball perspective, but from a LeBron the King James perspective, I'm guessing NY.

Their gameplan - the same appaling gameplan several other teams have also been running - is to suck and put a mess of a team on the court for the past few seasons all in the hopes of landing a big name FA this offseason. They could just as easily get stuck with 2nd-tier guys if everyone stays at home, and you know what, that's what they'd deserve, too. |
I just joined the "Hope LeBron James has to have Microfracture Surgery and it zaps him of his athleticism" group on Facebook.
|
I hope the Heat lose Wade, cause they really wasted his time by trying to clear cap space.
|

You're talking about the Clippers. LeBron would know damn well that if he signed there he'd have a career limiting knee injury on his first day of training camp. |
Yeah, no chance LeBron goes to the Clippers, and even if he LOSES HIS FUCKING MIND, no chance it dethrones the Lakers as 'the' basketball team in town.
For fuck's sake, the Clippers are co-tenants with the Lakers in the Staples Center. I dunno. I can't see any way he leaves Cleveland and winds up anywhere but Chicago or New York. I'm not sure there's another market fit big enough for him, especially with his side ventures. There's teams he could win a championship with that don't play in those two cities, but none that would offer the history of Chicago or the glitz of New York. |

They won't suck, but I don't think it will be the best possible option for him to win. I'd rather go to the Nets. |
