OOTP and Extensions
I can't remember how this scenario worked from my last time in the league:
You have a guy under contract for this season (1988). You are considering offering him an extension. So the case is: Current: 1988: $4mil Offer: 1988: $2mil 1989: $2mil What happens with the $4mil? I have vague recollections from last time that if I submitted this offer, I'd actually end up with an accepted contract of: 1988: $2mil 1989: $2mil 1990: $4mil So, what's the scoop? |
Any extensions you offer a guy with ONLY affect future seasons, not the one you're currently in. So, the 1988 salary will stay the same, and the 1989 salary will be 2 mil. If you offer a 2 year extension, it will be '88 4 mil, '89 2mil, and '90 2mil.

So that screen showing the offer for 88 and 89 is broken. Nice.
But thanks, the explanation makes sense. |
The faulty assumption is that you would make the offer during the season or post season, so "next season" or next year or whatever is the next calendar year.
