Sorry guys, out all evening. Homer pick alert
San Fernando Dragons Select: Mike Trout, 2018 Los Angeles Angels |
Was seriously wondering where to slot him. I think it's a reach, but he was in my top ten for sure. I can't imagine you will be disappointed with the pick.
I also can't believe I get the best baseball player of all time at #5, but I'll take what fortune wants to give me. The Willow City Wreckers select: Willie Mays - CF - 1954 (New York Giants) I have sent a PM to cmgdodgers to let them know they are on the clock. |

LOL. I was ready with my picks. Love the Ted Williams pick. I just wasnt sure if the defense was going to populate like it does on "Perfect Team" where it seems like the old time players get severe penalties on their defense. I think it was suppose to have been fixed on the last patch. |
Ted Williams and Walter Johnson at the back end of round one seems like absurd value.
|
Work is crushing me this week. I'll be on this evening to get everything updated.
|
Sandy Koufax - SP - Los Angeles Dodgers 1965
|
2001 Randy Johnson Arizona Diamonbacks SP
|
Excellent choices; I love Randy Johnson especially for being a Diamondback and leaving options open for later in the draft.
|
FYI I am out of pocket most of the rest of today. I have given a ~20 player list to EagleFan to hopefully keep things moving if it gets stuck on me.
|
1956 Mickey Mantle NYY
|
Vince PM'd me, this is his pick (EF has a list if it goes any further)
The Willow City Wreckers select: Hank Aaron, 1961 Milwaukee Braves Vince - I went ahead and gave you his best year by WAR as you didn't specify, I'm sure nobody will begrudge you if you want to change it later |
The San Fernando Dragons select:
Cy Young, 1892 Cleveland Spiders Assuming that the Spiders are a distinct franchise and this leaves the Indians on the board for me later correct? tarcone is on the clock, sending PM |
Dang. Cy Young was on my list.
The Big Inning Corn Kings select: 1911 Detroit Tigers Ty Cobb PMing David |
Tallahassee Federals Select:
1908 Pittsburgh Pirates - Honus Wagner 1975 Cincinnati Reds - Joe Morgan |
Quote:
You jumped David. |
Stamford Cyberams Select:
LF Carl Yastrzemski - Boston Red Sox - 1967 SS Cal Ripken Jr - Baltimore Orioles - 1991 |
Quote:
Thanks bhlloy. I think I actually had 1963, but I'll verify when I get back to a computer. |
Yeah, interestingly 1961 was his best WAR year but not even close to his best offensive year (I realized this after I was posting as I was evaluating my pick) - actually was a down year for offense but highest based on a pretty dramatic swing in defensive WAR. I'd probably go for a different year as well if it was up to me.
|
Quote:
2 picks? |
Quote:
Yeah, he was one away from the turn but got skipped, so he gets to go back to back. Tarcone is back on the clock. |
Quote:
David, my bad...if you want either of the guys I picked it's fine. I don't mind changing one of my picks... |
Updated he draft post through 2.4. Will be back on shortly to continue the updates.
Randy Johnson was a pain. Except for one other player the "01" version of the player has been the one we wanted... Randy Johnson was 05. I guess there were a lot of johnsra players that year. Including a Rankin Johnson Jr. AND Rankin Johnson Sr.... who knew... |
Quote:
No, I took the guys I wanted, Honus would've been in a debate with Cal, but that was always going to be my second pick, Carl was always going to be first, so it's fair game. |
Quote:
Honus was #1 on the list I submitted to EagleFan last night, but I waffled, and some friends eventually talked me into Hank Aaron. |
Quote:
If you had taken Wagner I was taking Ripken :) |
Updated through here.
|
Just because I am a nerd for this stuff:
Current Positional Rankings C - n/a 1B - Big Inning Corn Kings lead with only one so far 2B - Hornsby rated 1st, Morgan 2nd 3B - n/a SS - Rodriguez, Wagner, Ripken LF - Williams, Bonds, Yastrzemski CF - Mays, Mantle, Trout, Cobb RF - Ruth, Aaron SP - Otisburg, Baltimore, Canton, Indianapolis, Stamford RP - n/a |
I have to go homer. Do personalities count?
1968 St. Louis Cardinals Bob Gibson bhlloy is up |
I am really enjoying this draft. It is an amzing idea. Well done.
Im surprised more didnt jump in. |
Quote:
Same I'm thrilled there was still space for me to join. What a great idea. |
Quote:
I'm enjoying watching the different approaches. Want to see how the games turn out. Went with the shortened season so that every game means something. |
If this season goes well I may do a second season but maybe with a twist, like not being able to draft players who were taken in season 1. :)
|
Shoot a 419 average season is ranked 4th as a CF? WHAT? Holy smokes. The talent in MLB is crazy.
|
Quote:
Finding it fascinating how the players are being rated and ranked as I import them. Going to be some serious talent in the league. |
San Fernando Dragons select:
SP Roger Clemens, 1997 Toronto Blue Jays EF - I think you have Vince's list, and he said he'd be out all night, so I guess you can keep us moving? |
Quote:
I'd like to see only being able to draft one player from each decade as an awesome twist if you do this again. Maybe once you've selected from all 14, you can reuse them or something. Or something like 2 from each decade, and pre 1920 counts as one decade with the rule above about reuse? |
Grrr...I had my hopes up that Clemens would make it to me. Great pick...that puts me in a bind between several players I really like. After a lot of hemming and hawing...
SS Ernie Banks, 1959 Chicago Cubs And EagleFan, if you don't mind I would like to swap my Hank Aaron pick to 1963 Hank Aaron, not 1961 Hank Aaron. |
Question: how interchangeable are OF positions? It's been a long time since I have played OOTP regularly. If I were to select someone who hypothetically never played an inning in LF in their career, but I moved them to LF, how much would that mess with them?
Also, I should be around almost all day tomorrow. If it gets stuck on me and that list still has people in it, feel free to pick for me, but give me a reasonable amount of time first (an hour or two should be plenty). |
Quote:
Yeah, I don't think you'd want to do that if they don't have any experience at the position. It's certainly not "OF positions are interchangeable" from my experience. And that actually brings a couple more important points to my mind, as haven't imported historical players into OOTP in many years. 1) Will imported players come in with just experience and rating at their primary position they played that year, or a realistic balance of the positions they played that season/over the import period? 2) Will the CPU manager put SP as relievers and actually use them reliably, or is it going to freak out and do stupid stuff if you don't have a true MR/CL on the roster? Not sure if anyone is considering doing that, but that would be sad if somebody takes a bunch of great SP and ruins their team. Historically dominant relievers are not a dime a dozen. |
1980 George Brett 3B KC
|
Hey EF you have Ty Cobb listed at 1922 on the master list. I chose the 1911 version
|
Alot of the players that I wanted got picked lol.
Ozzie Smith SS 1987 St Louis Cardinals |
Vladimir Guerrero - RF - Montreal Expos 2002
|
Wade Boggs, 3B Boston Red Sox, 1987
|
I have so many thoughts about this as it's happening and I can't really discuss them because they revolve around players who have not been picked yet.
|
soo... I know I've held this up once myself, but are we going to go with time limits during the day at any point?
|
Quote:
Sorry, typo. Will correct. Imported the right one. |
It's been a rough evening (migraine, storm, power outage, then had to pick up my youngest and her friends from their job in OC). I will update tomorrow.
Will send out a PM to try to get it moving again. |
Sadly no new pick.
That said a question for our host, EagleFan. If I was looking at a player who was traded midseason, which team does he fall under? The team he started the season with? The team he ended the season with? or gulp both teams? Thanks and hopefully we get back to picking soon :) |
Any way to auto pick?
|
Quote:
Good question. Team he ended with. |
We'll give him a bit more time. He hasn't been online for a while, hope all is well.
If it gets too much longer I'll put down a deadline and what we'll do is bypass him and continue and then he can make the picks he missed when he returns. |
Caught up to here.
|
Since you're back - hope you are feeling better, migraines are no joke - any way to change my Hank Aaron pick to reflect the 1963 version?
|
Quote:
Well that doesn't work for me at all ;) Thanks for the quick response. |
Quote:
Yeah, I see that is what you had in your list. I'll get that changed. |
Going to put a 10:00 PM EST clock on for the next pick.
|
hitcat knows my list so I am sure he is ready and waiting. Im ready with mine at 10pm sharp
|
Quote:
Once you go I'll go quick and then crash. I'm a bit out of pocket until possibly late afternoon tomorrow but I have a bunch of picks before I go again after tonight. |
Stan Musial, RF/1B St Louis Cardinals 1948
|
Deadline past.
|
Rickey Henderson - LF - Oakland Athletics 1990
|
Quote:
Nice pick. Difficult to choose which season of his. I think 1990 was is best overall season but in 1985 he qualifies as a CF I believe. |
Quote:
Thank you and I agree that '85 might be the better season...but he's also a Yankee in '85 and for the future I needed him to not be a Yankee. So 1990 it was and I'll just need to find my CF elsewhere. :D |
Current Positional Rankings
C - n/a 1B - Corn Kings 2B - Knights, Federals 3B - Knights, Raiders SS - Raiders, Federals, Wreckers, Cyberams, Steamers LF - Clowns, Steamers, Aquaracers, Cyberams CF - Wreckers, Knights, Dragons, Corn Kings RF - Federals, Raiders, Aquaracers, Wreckers SP - Aquaracers, Steamers, Corn Kings, Dragons, RaidersClowns, Cyberams RP - n/a |
But take those rankings with a grain of salt. Have seen those reports end up being just as much speculation as what you see on ESPN.
|
Quote:
I like them. I think some of the fun will be looking back at the choices and deciding what we liked, what we hated, what the ratings had right and where they were off (I mean it's an 18 game season with maybe a 3 game playoff so we're probably going to see some crazy SSS swings for some of these guys. |
Bah. 1 & 2 on my list. Great picks both. Henderson and what year to take for him was a great debate for me and some friends. I had him as a fringe 1st round talent; you don't get any better of a leadoff hitter, and it's not particularly close.
|
1939 Joe Dimaggio CF New York Yankees
Even though I wanted Rickey Henderson..... |
SS Lou Boudreau 1948 Indians
|
Sorry guys. Been sick the last few days and totally forgot about this.
Picking shortly. |
3.10 Mark McGwire 1998 STL
4.1 Greg Maddux 1995 ATL |
Quote:
Joe D is a pretty nice consolation prize :) |
I think it's on me now? A little turned around with the out-of-order picks :) Give me a few minutes and I'll make a pick.
|
4.6 Tom Seaver - SP - 1971 (Mets)
|
Also, holy crap the fact that Tom Terrific didn't win the Cy Young that year.
