The 1980 Regular Season Thread

I had a request because of various circumstances to possibly hold up until 10:15 tonight to start. So we might start a few minutes late tonight.

Alan T 10-17-2008 08:55 PM

My wife says I am in a crabby mood again tonight, so I'm sure I will take it out on this season. I forsee no team with an ERA under 5!

ekcut 10-17-2008 09:03 PM

lock and load!

TimGuru 10-17-2008 09:08 PM

I'm all set Alan, thanks for the courtesy time. :)

Chief Rum 10-17-2008 09:10 PM

I am going to use all that extra 15 mins you gave, Alan. I am almost set, though. I'll post.

Alan T 10-17-2008 09:10 PM

Ok Chief, let me know when you are ready. Everyone else has notified me they are all set. We'll go when you're done!

Chief Rum 10-17-2008 09:21 PM

All set. Thanks!

Alan T 10-17-2008 09:23 PM

ok, lets get this started. Good luck to all. Will we see the Baltimore and Hartford dynasties continue to roll on?

Alan T 10-17-2008 09:27 PM

Did not get exports from Chicago, Hartford, Napa Valley and Wyoming

Alan T 10-17-2008 09:28 PM

Chief Rum 10-17-2008 09:30 PM

Good luck, everyone.

I think I shot myself in the foot tonight. I spent too much time on a lost cause in another forum, and didn't spend the time I needed to tonight in properly setting up my lineups. I know I have the talent, but that's rarely enough. So I guess we'll see how I do (I predict badly).

Young Drachma 10-17-2008 09:33 PM

You might want to go those teams that "didn't export" and do the import file from their team. You might get a few others...

ekcut 10-17-2008 09:34 PM

i thought muns said he exported

I had already checked the file dates for those teams on the ftp servers. None were today (or last night post-sim)

I thought he did too, I actually went through every thread and didnt see it though.. He is busy with basketball stuff I am sure.

Alan T 10-17-2008 09:39 PM

Ok, had a few teams with more than 25 people on their active roster that I had to take care of. Time to kick the season off. good luck all!

Chief Rum 10-17-2008 09:41 PM

Wow, can we run AI lineup on his, then, or something? Muns is far too active to let his season go to crap for one trip up. He doesn't have any lineups/pitching set at all.

Of course, the AI will probably just screw it up even worse.

:+1:

Alan T 10-17-2008 09:44 PM

With the teams that had more than 25 players on their roster, I sent anyone without a major league contract back to the minors. If they still had more than 25, I sent down people who did not play in the majors the previous season (as long as it did not cripple them at a position), and if they still had too many, I tried to make what I felt the best call as possible. I'm sure not all cases were the best, but I want these teams to still be competitive.

Alan T 10-17-2008 09:47 PM

Slight game issue to do with the schedule that I need to fix.

Commo_Soldier 10-17-2008 09:51 PM

Yea, that is unfortunate for Muns. Not sure how often everyone else exports but I do it three times every time just to get that warm and fuzzy that it went through. On a side note if Muns team wins the RL with an AI setup the CL champ should be really worried.

Young Drachma 10-17-2008 09:55 PM

season. season. season.

Pike 10-17-2008 09:57 PM

sorry that I couldn't export, I was flying back home from dallas with a dead laptop battery.

as for the salary cap violation.....yeah, welcome to my world.

Pike 10-17-2008 09:58 PM

If there is still time, I'll export ASAP. But I also have another issue....my minors don't have the 25 men rule covered. I was setting up minor league contracts earlier when I realized it was too late.

Again, sorry for the screwups still learning here....

kaosfere 10-17-2008 09:59 PM

If you're ever unsure of your exports and, for some reason, can't get to the game to see if you sent one, just have a look at http://omnivore.us/reports/ for your team number, and make sure the date looks good.

(Team numbers can be gotten through the FOOL HTML, as Alan mentioned earlier)

Good to know, thanks!

Young Drachma 10-17-2008 10:01 PM

...

Pike 10-17-2008 10:02 PM

I'm about to export, if it matters.

Chicago is going to have a looooooong season. Well.....one day long technically same as everyone.....but you get the point.

Just finished my export, BTW. God help us. me.

It might be a good idea to include this in a stickied thread, and also list all team numbers in that same post.

(Not saying kaos should do it, I was just thinking it would be a good idea for someone to do it--I might if I find the team #s, haven't looked yet).

Chief Rum 10-17-2008 10:03 PM

x up

Chief Rum 10-17-2008 10:04 PM

Sorry, I miss magic #.

Pike 10-17-2008 10:04 PM

So what happens when you go over the cap? And how did I anyway? I signed players until it said I didn't have money left to sign, which I was thinking was attached to the cap limit?

Commo_Soldier 10-17-2008 10:04 PM

I know Brooklyn is team #273

Easy fix, someone shoot Rasmussen for me. Or kidnap him for a year. Or five even.

Did you bring anyone up for spring training? That will put you over the cap, although you drop under if you put them back down in the minors again for the season. Of course, since you had issues tonight getting an export in, any player you brought up for spring training would still be up there.

If you had 27 or more players on your roster your cap violation was probably from callin up minor league players. If you go to the front office on the file you exported it should give you the new number after sending players down.

Yeah, I did. A pitcher. I didn't even think about his contract. Yeesh. You guys will have too tolerate my learning for a bit, but I'll get there.

Your wife must be pretty cool too if she lets your gf hang around on sim night.

Alan T 10-17-2008 10:15 PM

Sorry for the delay, I didn't head one of Dark CLoud's suggestions when he passed the league and didn't verify the schedule. So I'm having to piece part of it by hand. Probably another 10 minutes. I'm fast but I want to make sure it is correct

Young Drachma 10-17-2008 10:15 PM

I'm gonna go play in traffic. Or something else fun.

That post is traumatic, Commo. You might want to fix the formatting.

;)

kaosfere 10-17-2008 10:15 PM

You might want to turn off smilies in that post, Commo.

Preserving for posterity, because it had me laughing my ass off:

At my age I want to have two girls at the same time...that way they have someone to talk two if I fall asleep.

Commo_Soldier 10-17-2008 10:18 PM

Yea, I am not sure why pasting from a text editor does that. The stupid part is it shows up fine until you post it.
