Werewolf CLXVI - The Drenai Saga (GAME OVER - VILLAGE WINS!)

This game will be based on the world created by David Gemmell and his books known as the Drenai Saga. There will be some mild spoilers just in terms of flavor and what kind of characters there are, but I'll also be taking liberties to fit the game mechanics.

It will be a fairly straightforward game although I'm still fleshing it out.

More info as I have time to put it together at work! We can try to aim for a Monday (3/9) start, depending on interest.

RULES

One Deadline - 10PM EST

No editing of posts

No lynch is not an option

No posting after deadline until results have been announced. Votes at 10:00 will count, votes at 10:01 will not.

The result of a tie is unknown

Post your votes and unvotes in bold, like this:

vote jackal
unvote jackal

The village wins when all wolves have been eliminated.

The wolves win when they have reached even odds with the village (and Druss must be dead).

The Jackal 03-04-2015 09:09 AM

Possible Roles (some may not be included):

Druss, the Legend - Bodyguard (can protect one person each night from attack), but will fail trying to protect Rowena. Village cannot lose at even numbers if he is alive. Cannot be night killed.

Rowena - Seer (can scan one person each night to see if they are good or evil). If she scans Druss they will gain PM abilities, but not if he has revealed himself prior to the scan in thread.

Sieben, the Saga Master - Duke (one time ability to change the lynch vote)

Dardalion - If Druss dies, gains a one-time bodyguard action. If Rowena dies, gains a one-time seer action. Can only get one of these, from whomever dies first.

Bison - Has a one-time bodyguard action. If it is successful, gets a second. Two is the max.

---

Snaga - Gains brutal if Druss dies.

The Old Woman - Cunning (will scan as good if viewed by the seer). If Nosta Khan dies first, gains his ability to kill Druss when known, but cannot scan for him.

Nosta Khan - Can scan for Druss. Once Druss is known, has a way of killing him.

Entukku - Once per game can initiate a double lynch, where the winning vote getter and a random vote getter from that day both get lynched.

---

Waylander the Slayer - Has the ability for a one-time kill that will work on anyone. Counts as a villager in the numbers.

Nope. It's a series of ten books that I'm just going to be pulling characters from that fit with traditional WW roles. With a few twists here and there.

EagleFan 03-04-2015 11:15 AM

Why do I have a feeling Jackal is going to Bull Moose Special me on day one. :)

timmae 03-04-2015 11:26 AM

Try first minute... how crazy awesome would that be :)

Narcizo 03-04-2015 11:30 AM

Write me up.

JAG 03-04-2015 12:22 PM

Sure, let's keep it rolling.

path12 03-04-2015 12:31 PM

Why not. In.

GoldenEagle 03-04-2015 12:32 PM

I will play. I think a rather vanilla WW game is best though to help with some of our newer players.

It will be fairly vanilla. Standard roles, explanation of abilities, just lynches every day.

Shoveler 03-04-2015 12:51 PM

I did some checking and apparently there is wi-fi in the casino we are staying at near lake winnipeg.

I wouldn't be able to contribute at all during the day while we are ice fishing, I'm not going to pay for international data rates, but I could get online in the morning/evening.

I'll leave this up to Jackal, if you need another player put me in, if not I'll just sit this one out.

The Jackal 03-04-2015 12:56 PM

Ice fishing sounds fun. We'll see how signups go!

No, no it doesn't... NO MORE ICE!!!! ;)

Shoveler 03-04-2015 01:11 PM

that fish is to small. we wouldn't be going up there every year if it wasn't for the huge ass walleyes. generally anyone that is even remotely interested in fishing will pull a 7-9 lb walleye out of the ice. Some get lucky and land a huge one, but those are rare.

The Jackal 03-04-2015 01:15 PM

I had some ideas for Waylander and others that are more complex but I think I'll shelve them for this incarnation of the game. So it'll be clearly outlined - no conversions, no bull moose specials. Next time though..

timmae 03-04-2015 01:18 PM

based on actions in the last game shoveler may find himself down the hole instead of walleye coming up through... ;) And you're staying in a casino? For shame... (Yay for us though!).

We stay there simply because there is no other place that can hold all the people that are going on this trip. The only other large enough hotels would make our commute to the lake very long each day.

It's not like I'm going up there to gamble. Hell you have to gamble with that funny money they use up there with the pictures of pirates on it.

I almost never miss a WW game, but will be gone for ten days during this one. Glad to see it filling up though, this is awesome.

Grover 03-05-2015 08:26 AM

I am still a new face at this, but it is pretty awesome that two more guys have signed up for their first game!

Probably Monday, if that works for everyone!

Raven 03-05-2015 12:03 PM

I'd like to play, but these are pretty time intensive, so I'll need to sit one out to rest up my brain.

Autumn 03-05-2015 12:30 PM

Raven, I remember thinking that after my first game, and I didn't play again for a few months. But I think I did the same thing you did, which is start out on a really complex, unusual game. A normal game doesn't require nearly as much headspace.

I'll second this. Most of what you typically have to keep up with is the way you feel about people's tone, role claims, vote history, and people's relationships within the group. It's not all that bad compared to the WW+RPG-type games like the one we're just finishing up.

The Jackal 03-05-2015 12:47 PM

Yeah, I can promise this one will be much less time-intensive. Just lynches, night kills, vote analysis, and figuring out who's lying, if anyone.

Anyone who's expecting to have choices every day or roles to fight for after EF's game might be disappointed if they end up as a "vanilla" villager. But those are often the most fun to play since you aren't being overly cautious as a wolf or mulling over who to protect/duke/scan/etc.

Poli 03-05-2015 12:54 PM

Good luck on this!

agree, I have the most fun being vanilla.

Just realized we are both in the FFL league. Saw you in there when I was checking to see if today's game was ready. I see you are actually fighting for a playoff spot while I am fighting for a top 5 draft position.

Yes, finalizing game and assigning roles now. Please no posting until game starts.

The Jackal 03-08-2015 08:47 PM

Roles starting to go out, vanilla villager PM:

You are a common soldier at Dros Jackal, a fortress on the border between the lands of the Drenai and the lands of the Nadir.

The Jackal 03-08-2015 09:05 PM

Received this question and thought it relevant to everyone:

Waylander does have a minor victory condition but his main victory is with the village.

The Jackal 03-08-2015 09:18 PM

The setting: Dros Jackal. A rampaging Nadir army is approaching the gates and a lengthy siege is on the horizon. Not a problem for you - Druss is with you and he cannot be beaten.

One day you all wake up and something is wrong - no longer can you tell the difference between each other. You all look.. the same. Dark magic is afoot. You find a dead soldier with five knives sticking in his back - he had a similar build to Druss but death has removed the mask of sorcery and you are relieved to see that it is not Druss.

You know there is evil amongst you and it is up to you to figure out who the perpetrators are.

The Jackal 03-08-2015 09:19 PM

The game has begun, post away! Day/night one deadline will be tomorrow at 10PM EST.

EagleFan 03-08-2015 09:21 PM

Common soldier checking in.

EagleFan 03-08-2015 09:28 PM

I return to work tomorrow so I may not be available much during the day and am about to go try to get some sleep (tomorrow is going to suck when the afternoon gets here and I can't take my afternoon nap.... I guess that ties into another thread, I guess I am old),

path12 03-09-2015 12:30 AM

Checking in. I'm west coast and my weeks are frontloaded but will be around when I can.

Narcizo 03-09-2015 03:01 AM

Ok. So only a 5 hour or so wait until JAG briefly shows up. Let's go through the usual bumpf that everyone has to say at the start. The most important thing is that people are as active as their schedule will allow them. But, for why you ask;
1) A quiet village is a dead village. If there isn't an atmosphere where everyone talks then its easy for the wolves to slide through with no risk of slipping up or giving an impression of wolviness. It creates less pressure on the wolfs.
2) Far more importantly, the game is more fun for everyone if there's a lot of discussion.

Discussion on day one of a simple game is, admittedly, hard to get going but it can be done. (well, by you guys, its a lot harder for me to have a discussion). Day one votes are a crap-shoot but they're a necessary crap-shoot. Lynching's our main weapon in finding the baddies. Ideally you want a three/four horse race towards the end and a bit of vote movement is always nice to see. Admittedly making it a three/four horse race makes it easier for the wolfies to save a team member but that can be vital information later on. So vote early and vote often.

Narcizo 03-09-2015 03:07 AM

Vote Britrock

Like this. That's for making me look stupid (...er than usual) in the last game with your insane "saving a fellow wolf with a last second switch" shenanigans.

Narcizo 03-09-2015 03:17 AM

What's left? Oh yeah. Number of wolves. Meh! I'd guess 3 and a half with 16 people. As I don't see any cultist or sorceroresque roles I guess that means there's 4 pretty vanilla wolves, or a ramped up village OR 3 roled-up wolves with a fairly vanilla village. But I believe I'm normally a bit harsher on the wolfies then is the norm around these parts.

Just had a quick peruse of the roles and see that Druss is pretty insanely powered-up so I'd probably lean towards there being 4 wolves.

Zinto 03-09-2015 06:00 AM

I am thinking three wolves. The seer can't be protected when they reveal which I think counters Druss being pretty strong. If we do have four wolves we don't have many days to get this wrong. A few bad lynches and it will be game over.

Zinto 03-09-2015 06:02 AM

I agree with Narc. Stay as active as you can. It was really awesome last game to see our newbies come out of the gate being extremely active and I hope it continue with this one.

Zinto 03-09-2015 06:04 AM

Hey GE thanks for being a member of the other wolf team and killing Suicane last game. It made my life more difficult.

Vote Golden Eagle

JAG 03-09-2015 06:11 AM

Darn you Narc, that was gonna be my vote.

For the newer players (and everyone), I recommend voting early as it gives us something to talk about Day 1 and forces wolves to take a stand when they may not yet be coordinated.

Vote saldana

EagleFan 03-09-2015 06:45 AM

Newb checking in. Should have time to be fairly active, but being a newb I don't know if that's good or bad.

(Reminds me of our high school football coach who gave a quote to the local paper that was previewing our upcoming season, "Unfortunately, all of our defensive starters are back.")

a) 2-3 years old, or
b) a time traveller

Narcizo 03-09-2015 09:25 AM

Or the likeliest

c) 102-3 years old.

Hey sexy people!

I was killed way too early on Mars. And then I got too busy to read back and find out who killed me. So I don't know who is responsible for my death.

But whoever you are, I have a particular set of skills. I will find you. And I will vote to kill you...someday. But not today.
