OT-Hockey fans, Sidney Crosby

Anyone heard of this kid? I went to see him play tonight for Shattuck-St Marys(Murray the LA coach, coached here), this kid is pretty damn good.

He's only 15!

No, I hadn't heard of him before, but I will defiantely keep an eye out!

Scholes 01-25-2003 11:01 PM

I was at that game too! The one against Benilde?
He's a stud.... smallish, but everyone is comparing him to Zach Parise already, and he'll probably grow a lot more.

Unreal hands. He didn't get credit for the tip in he had, and easily could of had 2 or 3 more goals that game.

I'm an equipment buyer for a hockey only store in Blaine, so I hear a lot of talk about the hot prospects around the state, and his name is mentioned all the time, along with the two White Bear defensemen, Beaverson and Anderson... I think Anderson anyway.

Good to see another MN High School Hockey fan here!

Nope, I saw him play tonight against Holy Angels, 4-3, SSM won.

I'm a big HS fan, but have only seen 3 games this year, but I'm thinking of making a run down to Faribault to see him play again.

You go to the State Tourney?

Scholes 01-25-2003 11:42 PM

I have been to the tourney every year since 87', althought the last two years I've went in a different capacity, I run a booth at the neighboring hockey show at the RiverCentre for my store. I still get to see the night games though.
I would have liked to see Holy Angels beat them, it seems Shattuck's is so high on themselves, although Holy Angels is certainly becoming elitist as well... it's a lot easier when you can recruit players....

There was a feature on him a few weeks ago on HNIC. All of the elite hockey prep schools were after him. It will be interesting to see if he goes the CHL or NCAA route.

Everyone is still searching for the Next One...

The hype started here a couple of years ago. It's too bad he had to leave to further his career at such a young age. One always has to worry that his head will get too big with the early attention. I hope he has some good people around him to keep him grounded in reality.

The school he's at (Shattuck St. Mary's) is an excellent prep school that has produced a lot of outstanding players. As far as Minnesota schools go, I couldn't think of a better place for him to be if he wants to stay humble.

Well, he seems to be pretty grounded, Holy Angels beat the hell out of him, and he never lost his composure.

Scholes, PM me your store name, I'll stop down and meet you between sessions this year.
