History Re-invented (OOTP 11)

Thought about this for a while and decided to go for it. Using OOTP 11 I am going to "re-invent" baseball history. I plan on simming through relatively quickly and posting the highlights of the seasons.

There will be no expansion so when we get past the expansion years the rosters could get rather interesting. Players will be drafted into the league and not assigned to their historical teams (for the reasons mentioned in the previous statement).

The Setup

Leagues: 2 (American and National)
# of Teams: 16 (8 in each league)
Expansion: No

The Teams were randomly determined (with a couple that absolutely had to be there: Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Cubs, Cardinals).

American League
Baltimore Orioles
Boston Red Sox
Chicago White Sox
Cleveland Indians
Detroit Tigers
New York Yankees
Seattle Mariners
Texas Rangers

National League
Atlanta Braves
Chicago Cubs
Cincinnati Reds
Los Angeles Dodgers
Philadelphia Phillies
Pittsburgh Pirates
San Francisco Giants
St. Louis Cardinals

EagleFan 05-03-2011 10:11 PM

Innaugural Draft Order

1) White Sox
2) Braves
3) Phillies
4) Yankees
5) Cardinals
6) Red Sox
7) Orioles
8) Indians
9) Rangers
10) Tigers
11) Dodgers
12) Mariners
13) Giants
14) Cubs
15) Reds
16) Pirates

The draft will be a serpentine draft.

Above standings on July 31st as Chicago is ruling the roost so far. It was a closer race int he AL at the start of the month but the White Sox have pulled away.

The Cubs started out the season winning 27 of their first 33 games and have not looked back.

EagleFan 05-03-2011 10:36 PM

In August the Mariners have made the AL interesting and have closed the gap.

The White Sox look strong as they seek to repeat. The Indians and Orioles try to keep pace but the next month could make or break the race.

In the National League a three way race is developing between the Dodgers, Braves and Cardinals. The Cubs were the preseason pick by many thanks to their signing of Burkett bt they have faltered.

EagleFan 05-04-2011 11:01 PM

The White Sox have pulled away in August and appear to be ready to attempt to defend their title.

In the National League the Dodgers have slipped while the Cardinals and Braves both have passed them.

The White Sox continue to own the American League and will be going for their third straight title. The Cardinals missed by just one game in 1902 but they win their first pennant this season and will attempt to dethrone the White Sox.

great start on the dynasty EagleFan, because west coast baseball existed early in the deadball years of MLB!

But I Need to add some minors to make it appropriate when we get to 1904 to start off with AAA

American Association
Columbus Senators
Indianapolis Indians
Kansas City Blues
Louisville Colonels
Milwaukee Brewers
Minneapolis Millers
St. Paul Saints
Toledo Mud Hens

Eastern League
Buffalo Bisons
Jersey City Skeeters
Montreal Royals
Newark Sailers
Providence Grays
Rochester Bronchos
Toronto Maple Leafs
Washington Senators

And probably will integrate women to play Baseball in the mid 1950s, i can't wait for it

1903 World Series

Game one saw the White Sox score in the top of th efirst to take a 1-0 lead but the Cardinals woud tie it in the 3rd. The White Sox would take the lead 2-1 in the 5th only to see the Cardinals tie it in the 6th. In the bottom of the 9th pitcher Sam Leever would hit a leadoff double. Doc White would intentionally walk Jimmy Sebring. After the runners advance on a wild pitch he would inentionally walk Ossee Schreckengost to load the bases with no outs and setup a force at every bag. This would backfire as he would walk Roy Thomas on 4 pitches and the ardinals win game one by a 3-2 score.

The White Sox would answer in a big way in game two as they coast to an 11-0 victory behind Roy Patterson's 4 hit shutout.

Doc White would pitch the White Sox to a 2-1 victory in game 3 to take a 2 games to 1 lead.

Patterson would get his second victory in the world series by a 5-2 score in game 4. The White Sox now lead 3 games to 1 and are one win away from their 3rd straight championship.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 8th Harry Steinfeldt would drive in 2 with a two out single togive the White Sox a 3-1 lead going into the 9th, just 3 outs away from a threepeat. Freddy Parent doubles on the first pitch against Rube Kisinger. Ed Phelps would pinch hit and line out to right for he first out. Jimmy Sebring would foul out to the catcher for the second out. Ossee Schreckengost would double to deep left to make it 3-2. Roy Thomas would ground out to third to end the game and give the White Sox yet another title.

Major Offseason Moves

The Rangers signed 1B Fred Tenney. Tenney hit .323 for the Reds in 1903.

The Tigers sign CF Cy Seymour to a 5 year deal. Seymour hit .315 for the Dodgers in 1903.

The Cardinals found a way to get closer to the White Sox as they sign LF Chick Stahl away from them for a three year deal. Stahl hit .38 for the White Sox in 1903.

The Indians make the biggest signing of the offseason as they sign 2 time NL Cy Young winner Rube Waddell to a 7 year deal. In the last three seasons with Atlanta Waddell won 70 games with a 70-30 record. His best season was in 1903 with a 26-8 record and an ERA of 1.40.

The Cardinals sign P Cy Young to a 2 yard deal. Young was suffering with the Phillies as he was 11-20 in 1903 with an ERA of 2.27.

Standings - July 31, 1904

The American League rejoices as it seems the White Sox have finally suffered a loss or two that will end up with a different AL champion this season. The Indians and Tigers seem to be the cream of the crop in the AL this season. In the NL the Cardinals jumped out to a big lead but the Giants have been reeling them in.

Standings - September 1, 1904

The Indians have only been treading water in the past month but they have gainedsome ground on the Tigers. The Orioles and Mariners are now on the edge of the conversation now as well.

In the NL the Cardinals had briefly lost the lead but have since reclaimed the lead though this looks to be a race to the end. The Phillies had made an early season run and were looking to finish over .500 for the first time but have since fallen back.

Major Offseason Moves

CF Ginger Beaumont signs a 4 year deal with Cleveland. In 1904 he hit .287 with the Reds.

P Harry Howell signs a 4 year deal with Cleveland. In 1904 he went 21-9 with an ERA of 1.76 with the Tigers.

3B Harry Steinfeldt signs a 6 yard deal with San Francisco. Another player signs away from the White Sox which hurts their chances of reclaiming their spot at the top anytime soon.

SS Honus Wagner signs with Cleveland for 5 years. In 1904 he hit .273 with the Rangers. The Indians look like the team to beat going into the season as they have been busy in the offseason.

LF Mike Donlin signs with the Dodgers for 4 years. In 1904 he hit .324 with the Orioles.

Bad news in San Francisco as Weldon Henley will miss the season with an elbow injury.

Standings - July 31, 1905

The Indians looked to be the American League favorites going into the season and as we are about to hit the trade deadline that has held true.

In the National League the Pirates have surprised a few as they are the early leaders with the Giants a couple games off the pace.
