Looking over some of the contracts, why does Erik Doucet have such a low contract? I don't even see when he signed that deal either? He plays for Win.

Because he is officially the last of the FRANCHISE players. Franchise players were players that each team had back in the days of SLOP yore. They were signed to a lifetime deal that was uncapped. The rule was retired, but the players under that deal remained in it until they retired.

I didn't even realize it, until you said it that he's the last one. But I went back to look and he's the last one to remain among the fray.

Sorta crazy.

robster1225 04-07-2013 04:28 PM

Great another good spring probably means another bad season.

claphamsa 04-07-2013 05:44 PM

I agree, trade me your pitching and give in now :)

Actually, Jamel Reid is still on a franchise contract too.

While we wait for a blizzard to close work tomorrow and give me my first snow day from work since 2009, we'll go ahead and do the 1st part of the SLOP season. Feels like it's been forever since we played!

Yeah, the east coast isn't actually the center of the universe. It just feels that way. ;)

Well, if the past is any indication of the future, we will hang around the division leader for another couple months and fall off a cliff by September.

We had that giant snowstorm and my internet is crawling slowly. Hmm..

Young Drachma 04-10-2013 01:29 AM

We're going top 3 in the NL only this season, because the NL Salavisa has a bit of a MIA problem. We'll fix this for next year, but...this is a heads up to the NL owners who are around and might want to reload in the hopes of nabbing a playoff spot that they previously didn't realize they were able to grasp. Dunno.

Schedule is still balanced, so it doesn't really matter as far as who plays who reasons, but...again, it's a NL only heads up for this year only.

Top 3 what? In the league? Division?

The top 3 teams in the NL regardless of division. Only in the NL, only this year. The Salavisa is full of absentees.

Gomer 04-10-2013 07:53 AM

Gotcha.

Do we all get some free cap room so we can afford some of these surprise FA's?

No that's intentional. We're folding San Diego, Columbus and even though I've been in contact with their owners Los Angeles and Wyoming as both are out for now. Wyoming moved and doesn't have reliable internet right now and wolvie needed to shed a league. Ramz is still too busy for (any) league and Columbus is on hiatus.

Rather than dump them all into the market at once, I shed most of the talent San Diego inherited from St. Louis in that merger and that's in FA now. Also in FA are useful Columbus guys.

After the season is over, all four teams will have their players into the FA pool. Or if we're feeling especially ambitious, we could do some kind of supplemental draft setup for a round or two. In any case, it wasn't ideal. But I needed to do something and this seemed like the best solution.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to dig myself out of my house so I can go to work.

I don't think so. I sort of intentionally wanted bad/frugal teams to have a bit of an advantage to get engaged.

But I will ponder this as I am freezing my toes off.

Gomer 04-10-2013 08:50 AM

This is not the time to do this.

These FA's shouldn't be available until after the season.

This throws a wrench into the season as we approach the playoffs, and could possibly make a lucky/frugal 3rd place team a prohibitive favorite just by dumb luck. This game already employs enough dumb luck. We don't need more of it.

It's like God (or YD!) just picking up superstars and sprinkling them around the league willy nilly.

I know you're a redistributionist, but this is a little much.

I know you're a redistributionist, but this is a little much.

Agreed.

To be honest, I've had enough of these kind of decisions. Contract / find a new owner for Portland.

This could be one of the best leagues around if not for the capricious and nonsensical actions of the commish.

Young Drachma 04-10-2013 12:43 PM

Socialism gone awry, apparently.

Young Drachma 04-10-2013 12:43 PM

Maybe it's just time to shut it down for a while. I mean, if no one is having fun and I'm the worst commish ever, then there's really no point. :) I would write a long post about my intentions and all that, but if you don't get me by now..there's no figuring it out.

This is a game lab and we are all just guinea pigs.

I, for one, am totally cool with that.

Thank you, DC, for making the sausage as long as you have.

wolvie109 04-10-2013 12:58 PM

Totally agree with Subby. We're your lab rats. I just wish I had time to keep up. Mostly my fault too since I kept forgetting the sim schedule.

Young Drachma 04-10-2013 01:05 PM

Here's the deal. In a league like I run, I just like to balance democracy and feedback with making the solutions easy so people can just export and play. I treat it akin to a more competitive solo environment. If people are frustrated, it's no fun. If it's boring, also no fun.

But I just expect folks to be adults. If you don't like something, speak up and talk about it. Then we hash it out and move on. But I've been consistent for all of the years I've run leagues whether it's this one or any of the dynasties I wrote back in the day over at OOTP or here.

I tweak, I tinker, I try new things. Hell, the only reason fast sim EXISTS as a concept is precisely because I thought "well, there has to be a better way to improve multiplayer experiences for people."

So you can dispute my methods and be annoyed with certain things. But you can't ever question my passion, my dedication or the fact that I put a lot into making these leagues the best possible.

All along this league was just one giant experiment. I never anticipated it would work. The fact that it has for this long is impressive to me and so, in that sense, I've accomplished my goal.

But it's clear to me that some people take fake sports a lot more seriously than I do.

In any case...this was awesome and we had a really solid run. I've already told the guys from FOxL privately that I appreciate them for coming over and really helping this thing take off.

Jack Raden, Carolina, claphamsa in Washington have been epic additions to this league and I almost want to just have a league with you people in it, because you guys just rock and roll with whatever. Rio Grande's owner doesn't post much, but that dude exports really often. That's the thing, we had 80-90% attendance for almost the entire run of this thing until this year really. It's nuts how fast we grew and how we maintained it. I'm proud of that and every one of you for participating and making it what it is. I was just steering the ship, but without you all...I'd have been playing solo.

In any case...this will be the last season of SLOP in OOTP13. I will release a SLOP Home Kit the same way I release a FOOL Home Kit at the end of that league, so you can remain invested in your current players and so forth.

There's a possibility I create an OOTP14 league at some point down the road, but with the new FBPB3 out, the weather heating up (Despite my blizzard right now) and the fact that my travel schedule starting in mid-May through the end of June will be crazy...it might be better if I take a hiatus from running leagues until I know what I'm going to be doing with myself.

That doesn't exempt me from trying different little projects in this forum, but..it just seems like it's better to end things on a high note than to have them drag down until they bear no resemblance from what they were at the start.

So yeah, we've done well.

As for the free agents in the pool, there are there. If you find redistribution horrifying, just leave them there. Otherwise, go beat Gettysburg.

Young Drachma 04-10-2013 01:07 PM

So as for schedule, we'll maintain it. Tomorrow is the last day of the regular season. Friday we'll sim the post-season. I'll get out an at-home copy of the league file for anyone that wants it (I'll release it publicly) after that. It's just a solo version of the league sealed up to the last day of the post-season or whatever.

We all know how Subby loves the sausage.
