Vegas advice (again)
 

Hey guys-

I know we've had a few Vegas threads in the past but I'm looking for some specific tips. This is the first time I've gone where gambling isn't the primary focus but food and shows are. So we've got 4 shows scheduled: Absinthe, Love, Penn & Teller, and Mac King. So we're pretty set there.

In terms of the food though, I'm still looking for some recommendations. Here's what we have:

Friday- CraftSteak @ MGM
Saturday- Onda @ Mirage
Sunday- Sterling Brunch at Bally's and Japonais @ Mirage
Monday- Scarpetta @ The Cosmo
Tuesday- Bouchon @ The Venetian
Wednesday- ??
Thursday- ??
Friday- fly back

So I'm looking for something good those other two nights. I'm a big Emeril fan on TV but I hear his restaurants are hit/miss. We're pretty open to most foods, sushi, seafood, steaks, italian, etc. So...any tips for that Wednesday night or Thursday night dinner?

OH, yeah, and I am totally hitting up Pink's hot dogs and In 'n' Out burger for lunch but I would love any casual food recommendations as well.

If you're a Sushi fan, I heartily recommend the Shibuya @ MGM.

There is a fantastic upscale mexican restaraunt at the Venetian as well. (Upscale as in food style, casual dining, really good for a lunch, awesome sangria).

If you're an oyster fan, the oyster bar @ Harrahs is a good stop as well.

Was just going to suggest this one. Definitely sit up at the sushi bar where you can watch them work. Great stuff.

The best meal I've ever had in Vegas (and it's not even close) was at "Stack" at the Mirage. It's a steakhouse, but it's not super expensive and it is fantastic:

My Wife and I split a steak, had a couple sides (asparagus was great) and their jelly donuts hole dessert. I would check it out if you need one more spot.

I am going to be in Vegas for Saturday's Cub game. Obviously I could watch it a sports book but any other recommendations for a fun place to watch?

I liked Twin Peaks in Henderson. If you like hot waitresses and big, cold steins of beer, that is.

I've always really enjoyed the sports books, particularly Mirage, MGM and a few others within M Life (I've heard Aria is also very good). However, Lagasse is supposed to be pretty good (inside Venetian, I believe). Good and drinks are supposed to be pretty solid at Emeril's place.

There's a Twin Peaks in the Planet Hollywood complex, if that's your fancy. No need to drive to Henderson.

But for my money, there are very few places better to watch a big sporting event than a crowded sports book.

The wife and I watched a full Sunday of football in the Mirage sports book when the Colts & Eagles both scored late to beat the spread within seconds of each other. The place went nuts. Pretty cool experience.

On Saturday you'll probably be fighting 8-10 CFB games going on at the same time as the books.

I'll take a wild guess and say if you want to be with a million Cubs fans (especially since Bryant is from here) go for something on the west side of town. I'm sure Chicago Brewing Company on Fort Apache will have nothing on but the Cubs game since they focus on every Chicago sports team. May want to call ahead and check but I'm pretty sure this will be the highest density of Cubs fans on Sat. (702) 254-3333

My favorite cheap/casual place is still the Ellis Island, off the strip behind Bally's on Koval. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but it's a great 3 AM stop. $1 beers from their brewery, $3.99 steak and eggs special after 1 AM, a tiny sportsbook where the attendant will put on whatever you want on the one TV, and just very relaxed. I like to alternative Ellis Island nights with fancier expensive nights when I'm in Vegas. And not applicable to the OP, but if I'm going to Vegas with guy friends or by myself and I don't care at all where I'm sleeping, the attached Super 8 is the very best value close to the strip.

My friend and I had a question, and it didn't seem worth starting another Vegas thread to see if anyone knew the answer, so I'm bumping this one.

When do the major sportsbooks stop taking action on the season win totals, etc. for NFL teams? Do they stop before the Thursday Night season opener, or do they still take bets on the other 30 teams until the Sunday kickoff time?

Before a team plays a game on win totals. So you will have 2 that stop Thursday and you will have 4 that stop Monday and the rest on Sunday.

What Murray said, but with mobile wagering, and the popularity of sports wagering in general, a lot of books may just keep it open and adjust the odds or totals.
