The closest thing to this I can remember specifically was a personal foul well after the play (a guy basically started a mini-brawl with a late hit away from the ball)

At Duke, when they empty the stands and rush the field, there's still plenty of room to spare.

The teams with the best players win and the worst ones lose. It's all about recruiting and prestige. Deion and others who are successful understand it. Give Nick Saban the Mississippi State roster and he'll be lucky to play in the Duke's Mayo Bowl.

People can hate to look at it that way, but the successful programs have the most talent. There isn't much more to it.

Except, when they don't.

What you describe is no more interesting than the NFL, which is why I condemn it so thoroughly.

If that league ceased to exist tomorrow I'd feel zero sense of loss (hell, I'd be tickled pink)

Is Dabo still the favorite to take over for Saban when he retires?

I suspect he'll be on the retirement circuit / running a prison ministry by that point.

Lol. That does seem to be where he is headed.

Well, that was a surprise.

I think Duke should slip into rankings this week. Looked it up, last time was 2018.

Lathum 09-05-2023 07:40 AM

Duke was the better team by far the entire night. Take away that boneheaded play on the punt and Clemson may have been shut out.

Is free agency the thing that kills the NFL for you?

Ghost Econ 09-05-2023 07:47 AM

God's NIL < FSU's collective.

GrantDawg 09-05-2023 08:58 AM

My favorite line on that is "Whatever denomination Dabo is you can rule that put as wrong." Pretty sure God should have the ability to put a football team together that could beat Duke.

His record without Watson and Lawrence is really starting to stand out.

A lot of people were sleeping on Duke this year. They returned 98% of their production on offense from last year's 9-win team, and 8 starters on defense.

As for Clemson, they've been slowly regressing for the past several seasons, especially noticeable after they lost both coordinators to head coaching jobs a couple of years ago.

And somewhere out there in Corvallis, Oregon, DJ Uiagalelei is laughing his ass off right now.

Edward64 09-05-2023 11:06 AM

That and they did bring in former Hog HC Chad Morris as some sort of special assistant.

I'm all for shaking up the traditional powers the past several years. Tired of Clemson, Alabama, OSU, Michigan etc. dominating the polls. Give a couple more nice years to Georgia and then I'll root against them.

I'd be stunned if he found any humor by the end of the season. Easy to laugh when you ain't played nobody yet.

Just because Clemson doesn't seem to have solved the riddle doesn't make Ukelele the answer to any question

Swaggs 09-05-2023 11:37 AM

If there was ever a year for USC, Texas, and/or Penn State to break through, I feel like this is it.

JonInMiddleGA 09-05-2023 01:14 PM

Maybe it's time to stop doing the college football coaches poll.

The new one just released ... Clemson is #21, Duke is #24

I wish I was kidding.

Brian Swartz 09-05-2023 01:20 PM

Inertia. You can't shift things too much on the result of one game. That would be admitting you were wrong before. And we just can't have that.

Ghost Econ 09-05-2023 02:09 PM

Most of their grad assistants probably filled it out on Sunday

During the BCS era, this would actually matter. Now, the polls are irrelevant. The CFP selection committee ultimately determines the top 25, playoff representatives and New Year's Six bowl matchups.

With that being said, the AP and Coaches' polls still get fans riled up on a weekly basis.

RainMaker 09-05-2023 02:25 PM

There is just no way you could list Clemson over Duke after what happened last night.
