RESTRICTED FREE AGENT DESIGNATIONS & FUTURE FRANCHISE PLAYER AUCTION

As for the RFA rule:

Quote:

Each year between the end of the Sunset Series and the day free agents declare, each team may designate one (1) player under their control as a restricted free agent. (RFA)

The RFA will enter free agency as normal and can be signed by any team. Once the player signs, the original team will 24 hours or until the next sim to decide whether to 1) match the offer made by the new team 2) negotiate a trade with the offering team that includes the player (a sign & trade back to his home club) or 3) decline to match the offer and the signing with the offering club will become official.

Unlike the franchise or legacy player rules, the RFA happens each year. Each team gets just 1 per season except any team that currently has a franchise player under contract cannot also exercise the RFA rule.

The RFA isn't a permanent designation. It's just a one-time designation that can be used on any player per season.

The RFA's contract will be subject to the salary cap like any other player.

Teams have until tonight to designate (1) RFA. Again this only applies to:
Hilton Head, Lake Placid, Kauai, Chicago, Denver, Memphis, Shem Creek & Columbus

FUTURE FRANCHISE PLAYER PROVISION
The FFP is the provision that succeeds the franchise and legacy player. Essentially, it's a young player that enters the system of a franchise early in his career, (hopefully) develops and then is able to build a legacy with them that the team decides is worth keeping in the fold once he's able to earn a big salary.

Beginning with the off-season immediately following the 1859 season, SLOP teams will be able to offer a signing bonus using current year cap space to any player in STREP (or subsequently renamed future SLOP feeder league) who is aged 16 or younger.

This public auction will take place during the period after spring training and the Sunday before the start of the season. (Friday night through Sunday night).

The baseline bonus price is $9.5 million, meaning no player can be offered less than this amount. The winning team will award the player a 10-year contract (1st year capped, 9 years uncapped) after which time, the player becomes a free agent.

The player retains his FPP contract if traded. The 1st year of the deal is for the price of the signing bonus.

The FPP provision cannot be used in conjunction with the original FRANCHISE player designation.

This only applies to:
Hilton Head, Lake Placid, Kauai, Chicago, Denver, Memphis, Shem Creek & Columbus

The public auction starts now but on a 24-hour clock. So if a guy gets bid on and no one bids on him for 24 hours, you get him at that price. The bidding period ends with the Friday night sim with all offers at that point final.

EXAMPLE POST

DENVER
RFA: Jean-Claude Andre (MR)

FFP: SP Dave Ribic, Wabash Warriors ($12 million)
SP D.J. Miller, Casper Ghosts ($10 million)

Young Drachma 10-01-2012 05:08 PM

It's an example post, but it's actually Denver's opening FFP bids and an RFA (on a guy that we're going to decline to match...but just wanted to show an example anyway)

To clarify, an RFA has to be guy who'll be a free agent this upcoming FA period. Not some future guy who you'll RFA later.

Jack Raden 10-01-2012 05:20 PM

Memphis should be able to jump into this now - Derek Campbell just retired, so I don't have a franchise player any more.

Sweet. Sorry. Memphis too!

Jack Raden 10-01-2012 08:25 PM

Just to clarify, FFP guys get Year 1 at the bid. What do they make in years 2-10? League min? That initial bid?

One year at bid. Years 2-10, they're like the old FRANCHISE guys. Uncapped/deal at league minimum.

wolvie109 10-01-2012 10:26 PM

Kauai RFAs 2B Takeo Takaki

mostly because he's Japanese.

Jack Raden 10-02-2012 06:12 PM

I could've sworn I posted my FFP bid a couple of hours ago, but apparently not.

Memphis bids $15 million on SP Dave Ribic.

Young Drachma 10-02-2012 06:20 PM

Denver bids $20 million on SP Dave Ribic.

TurnerONU22 10-02-2012 11:43 PM

Columbus bids $22 million on SP Dave Ribic
Columbus bids $9.5 million on SP Manny Torres

If we're not allowed to have two bids (based on DEN's first bids of both Ribic and Miller), then Ribic is the only one.

Young Drachma 10-02-2012 11:48 PM

You can have multiple bids, so long as you have the cap space. Can bid on as many FFPs as you want right now.

Jack Raden 10-03-2012 09:51 PM

Memphis bids $22.5 million on SP Dave Ribic.

Young Drachma 10-03-2012 10:53 PM

Denver bids $25 million on SP Dave Ribic.

wolvie109 10-04-2012 12:38 AM

Kauai bids $27 million on SP Dave Ribic.

Young Drachma 10-04-2012 09:45 AM

Denver bids $28.75m on SP Dave Ribic.

wolvie109 10-04-2012 10:04 AM

Kauai bids $30m on SP Dave Ribic.
Kauai bids $9.5m on CF D.J. Maul

Young Drachma 10-04-2012 10:07 AM

Unfortunately, we can't bid on Maul. He turned 17 before the FA period and thus is ineligible. I wanted him too. :) If only this rule had come into effect a year earlier we could've all run up the money on him. Only players who were 16 and under at the start of FA are eligible for FFP.

Instead, you're just gonna have to suck for Darth Maul.

Young Drachma 10-04-2012 10:13 AM

Denver bids $35 million on Dave Ribic.

wolvie109 10-04-2012 10:48 AM

boooo okay.

Kauai bids $9.5m on Lusala Chaga
Kauai bids $9.5m on Wyatt Ball
Kauai bids $10m on Manny Torres

TurnerONU22 10-04-2012 11:59 AM

Columbus bids $40 million on Dave Ribic

Young Drachma 10-04-2012 12:00 PM

Boom goes the dynamite.

Jack Raden 10-04-2012 02:55 PM

Memphis bids $12m on Lusala Chaga.

wolvie109 10-04-2012 04:09 PM

Kauai bids $15 million on Lusala Chaga.

Young Drachma 10-04-2012 05:24 PM

Just for the record, I was trying to debate whether teams should be able to withdraw bids. And I've decided bid withdrawals are allowed. If it happens before the deadline (which is tomorrow night at midnight with exports) then the next highest bid gets the guy at the lowest qualifying bid they put in (to win the guy.)

For example: Say, New York bids $50m on a guy and then withdraws and before that, Minnesota bid $45m and New York had bid $40m and Minny bid $39.5m then they get him for that price.

Basically the idea is to prevent a team from running up the bidding on a guy and then dropping out.

Denver withdraws bid on SP D.J. Miller (Casper)

TurnerONU22 10-04-2012 08:09 PM

Just a clarification from earlier, the deadline is at 12 AM EST Saturday (Friday night's sim), correct?

Yeah, it's Friday night's sim. So we have a whole 'nother day of this. Heh.

In the future, can we set the time a bit earlier? In this instance, if Ribic gets a larger bid at 11:55, I'll probably be asleep. Would 10 EST be a good compromise? I'm looking in the direction of you guys on the West Coast.

EDIT: I'm just referring to the auction deadline, not the sim time.

Hmm...good point.

We can do whatever we want. Let's set the auction deadline to 10pm eastern time. That's 7pm on the west coast. Wolvie in Hawaii is always going to be screwed..but at least that way it's essentially close of business everywhere plus an hour or two to go home and make some magic happen.

:(

Yeah this is fine by me. I have no issues with 10pm Eastern. Usually I'm either at work or at home and able to do whatever I need to in time.
