Elite Cage Warfare - WMMA 4

Jim Carpenter was a veteran of 62 professional MMA fights, starting his career in the infancy of the sport and taking on the best the sport had to offer. Hailing from Wigan, England, Carpenter was the scourge of the British Isles and eventually winning every conceivable title in the Lightweight and Welterweight divisions before taking his talents to Alpha-1 and eventually Gamma.

Though he never won any titles with the bigger organizations, he was a stiff test and fared well against the best in the world, finishing his career with a record of 49-11-2. A quiet, unassuming gent, Carpenter was respected by all in the business and gaining even more popularity in America than he had in his native England. It was for this reason that he decided to settle in Arizona upon his retirement in 1999 after being stopped by Bobby Brubaker at Gamma 31.

After being out of the spotlight for nearly 2 years, an unlikely meeting with Dean Guest led to a pooling of ideas and resources and in January of 2001, with $500,000 in their coffers, owner Guest and CEO Carpenter announced the opening of the Arizona based MMA organization, Elite Cage Warfare, or ECW. Initially starting with just three divisions (Heavyweight, Light Heavyweight and Middleweight) the two began their journey to put ECW on the MMA map.

Ever wary of fighting off challenges from Gamma for the best young prospects in America, we set out to sign a mix of promising young superstars, some aging name fighters on the downsides of their careers and some solid journeymen to test the young fighters coming up.

After signing an initial roster of 68 fighters between the HW, LHW and MW divisions, we release our initial rankings ahead of the very first ECW card which will be held on Saturday the 4th week of February and feature out first title fight.

Isaiah 'Thump' Monroe 8-0 vs Dwayne 'The Pain' Alleyne 8-0 for the ECW MW Title
Undercard
Brody Howles 5-0 vs Glenn Pimm 34-12Damien Jones 6-0 vs Collins Lundie 12-4

Plus 3 exciting preliminary bouts featuring
Wesley Sneep vs French Dancer, Mort Slingsby vs Stan Still, Big Magic vs Blaze Weeks

It feature a very intriguing main even between two promising young fighters, getting a shot at gold long before they would in one of the other organizations, in what should be a competitive fight. The undercard features a couple of good matchups between top contenders, with the Howles/Pimm tilt of particular interest as it will say a lot about where Howles is at this early stage. The prelims feature our most curious signing as internet street fight sensation Big Magic makes his major promotion debut after winning his first MMA scrap on a small local show in his native Boston. It will remain to be seen if he can "slice" it against trained MMA fighters.

Finances
We lose 8,176 in January, with the bulk of it being to fighter signing bonuses, which leaves us with a balance of 491,824, still very comfortable.

BYU 14 12-09-2014 06:49 PM

Heading into our first card, Big Magic suffers an eye injury, so the curiosity seekers will have to wait to see if he is the dope, or just a dope. We still have 7 fights on tap and an eager crowd as the lights come up.....

ECW 1: Genesis- February 24th, 2001 - Arizona
Main Event - ECW Middleweight Title
MWIsaiah Monroe 8-0vsDwayne Alleyne 8-0
In a battle of two strong wrestlers, it was Alleyne who pushed the action, but Monroe who controlled it.Going a perfect 4 for 4 on takedowns, Monroe was able to control Alleyne on the ground, landing 39 ground strikes, to only 11, as well as pass Alleyne's guard on 3 of 4 attempts. It was only Alleynes ability to scramble that kept him from getting pounded out, with Monroe stuffing 9 of his attempted takedowns as well. The standup was fairly even at 51 to 42 punches landed for Monroe, but his ground game made the difference 49-46, 49-46, 50-45

Wrap up
A solid if unspectacular main event, which garnered a rating of decent, which part could be due to the barnburner that preceded it in the Jones/Lundie slugfest that saw both men eschew any attempt at grappling, instead throwing haymakers the entire fight.Though they missed more than they landed the action was non-stop and the right hand from Jones that ended it was terrifying.Lundie suffered a concussion and will be out 4 months, while Pimm will be out 3 months with a hand injury.Howles looks to move up in the rankings, but the LHW division is stocked, with Dreck and Pascal squaring off for the that belt at ECW 2: Uprising.

Losing lots of money as expected, but our next show in April will be in California, where MMA has a higher popularity level, so I am expecting a 200-300 more in attendance as we are marketing for two full months. This will be the trend, which is why I am not running shows every month and we need to be breaking even by the time we get to $200,000 in reserves, which will be a tall order.

Big Magic has recovered from his eye injury and will be appearing on the April card. I have also signed the main event for our June card, which will see a heavyweight champion crowned, but in the meantime.

News and notes:

Alpha-1 Fighter Genki Shinashi is in hot water for posting racist material on social media.

Meanwhile WEFF seems to be a bit of a party promotion as both Katherine Williams and Sandy Oliver fail drug tests for recreational drugs.

Heading into ECW 2 we have the following injuries

Guy Broom suffers a minor ankle injury, but will still compete against Lachlen Bowen at ECW 2 Uprising.

Sly Twinge suffers a minor injury, but will still be good to go for his fight with Gareth Grundy, scheduled for ECW 3: Spring Break in June.

Finally Chesney Brightman, who is tentatively scheduled to appear on the ECW 4: Red, White and Bruised card in July hurts his back, but will be ready to go if his fight is confirmed.

ECW 2: Uprising- April 28th, 2001 - California
Main Event - ECW Light Heavyweight Title
LHRupert Dreck 8-0vsAdrian Pascal 6-0
A lot of standup in round 1, which surprises most since both are wrestlers, with Pascal scoring a takedown at rounds end to possibly steal it.In the second round things go as expected as both men look to gain to take it to the ground with Pascal finally succeeding.Once down Pascal gains side control, but can't get mount and in the scramble that follows gets caught in a triangle choke.Pascal elevates Dreck and powerbombs him to the mat, but Dreck maintains the hold and Pascal is forced to tap at 3:59 of the 2nd round!!

The Blurcat staff picked Pascal 5 to 2 at the beginning of the show, but Dreck pulls off the spectacular submission as the main event salvages what otherwise would have been a rather drab show.Taye Burnett was by far the biggest disappointment struggling with Strachan and showing none of the explosion expected, he then called out Nate MacReary, be careful what you wish for.Big Magic showed his inexperience in MMA, dropping Weeks with a hard right and then diving right into a triangle choke, so much for the hype.Financially the gate is good and we only lose $27,250 overall.Bart Diggs suffered a minor facial injury in his fight.

BYU 14 12-10-2014 11:48 AM

April was a better month as we finish with $413,485 in the back after a net loss of -$32,953

Gamma is making push to expand and has offered Barrett Fforde, Isaiah Moore, Ronnie Allen Teller, Chaz Babish, Damien Jones and Guy Broom. I can afford to lose Fforde and Teller, but I make counter offers to the others. Jones and Moore get offers of $4,000 per fight and Broom $3,500. Big raises from their already ample salaries with us and 3 times what Gamma is offering for a guaranteed deal, but I need to keep them. Especially Moore since he is the MW champ.

I also release our updates rankings and the lineup for ECW 3: Spring Break, which will be headlined by Sylvester Collins and Russell McPhee battling for the Heavyweight strap.

June hits and Gamma is in full on raid mode. We lose Ronnie Allen Teller and Chaz Babish, who I did not try and retain. Next they turn their attention to LHW Champion Rupert Dreck, Brody Howles, Wesley Sneep, Russell McPhee, Sly Twinge, Mort Slingsby, Titus Mostel and Edward Zahn.

I have to pick my battles here and I am able to retain Dreck, Twinge, Howles, Slingsby and Mostel, all at handsome raises. I lost the bidding war for McPhee who fights for the HW title this month and as it’s too late to replace him I have to hope for a Sylvester Collins victory. I don’t try and retain Sneeps or Zahn and they sign with Gamma. It is pretty clear they are intent on stealing my best talent or driving me to bankruptcy by inciting bidding wars, wankers!

Billy Russell is hurt the day before ECW 3: Spring Break, but will still fight with a cracked rib. We enter the show, which will be held in Colorado for the first time, with $406,063 in the coffers and I expect to lose another 25-35 K on the card, but it’s all part of the growth process.

Collins is a -350 / +270 favorite over McPhee and I really need him to come through so we don’t look foolish having our Champion jump to Gamma after winning the belt.

ECW 3: Spring Break- June 30th, 2001 - Colorado
Main Event - ECW Heavyweight Title
HWSylvester Collins 7-0vsRussell McPhee 19-7
Collins game plan is evident from the get go as he has not interest in trading at range with the kick boxer and as a result most of the first two rounds are spent with Collins pressing McPhee up against the cage, as both men engage in dirty boxing, with Collins also landing a pair of nice knees. In the 3rd round Collins is able to get waist control and slams McPhee, taking his back and going for a rear naked choke.McPhee blocks the submission, but can't shake the hooks and Collins pounds away, with McPhee eventually going limp at the 2:33 mark, Collins is the champ!!

Wrap up
Sylvester Collins spares us the indignity of having McPhee take our belt as he leaves to a bigger promotion, while Gamma gets a fighter a loss in a 'lower' organization!Despite the first 2 rounds spent mostly in close, Collins still manage to land 188 strikes over the three rounds, in a solid performance.Sly Twinge calls out Damien Jones in his post fight interview, which might not be a good idea the way he performed tonight, while Nigel Malley announces he will retire from MMA after being destroyed by Brown.Attendance continues to rise, though we took a slight hit at the gate due to the market size and we lose $28,096 on the show.Cal Hilson suffers a minor hand injury

BYU 14 12-13-2014 10:30 PM

In addition to Nigel Malley, Jasper Osmond and Tobias Goulet announce their retirements from the sport. Malley hangs it up with a record of 23-16, Osmond finishes at 14-13 and Goulet at 16-17. I will be looking to sign some young fighters to fill these spots soon.

Jerry Bogdonovich sustains a minor neck injury, but is still full go for ECW 4 in July.

Unsigned British fighter Hardy Tristan tests positive for recreational drugs, not the smartest thing to do when you are looking to get signed with a company.

And what is going on Japan, Rikiya Uchiyama is the second Japan based fighter to get into hot water for posting racially charged material on social media, and he hasn’t even debuted yet!

Sam Hoynes accepts a 5 fight extension at $2,200 per fight, securing someone that appears to have a future on our company for a while longer.

In follow up we keep Gamma from taking MacGregor Dare, overpaying the Light Heavy to the tune of $3000 per fight for 5 fights.

Gamma strikes again offering contracts to Wink Deschanel, Jericho Stewart, Nate MacReary and Jacob Barlee. I offer raises to everyone but Barlee, who is already way overpaid. Barlee ends up leaving, but I retain the other three.

Our entire July card is formally announced and financial numbers released. We are below 400K in reserve, so we probably have about four more cards (including this one) before we are going to need to start breaking even. Gate revenue is up over 20K from our first card and while expenses are up to, the escalation of costs is much less than the gain.

Valdez is an accomplished boxer and the champion looked to clinch early, drivimg Valdez into the cage and keeping him there as he maneuvered for position most of the 1st round. In the 2nd round Monroe immediately tied Valdez up again and after an exchange of dirty boxing was able to score a trip takedown, where he transitioned easily from side control to mount.Working patiently Monroe finally scored a big shot that stunned Valdez and as he prepared to unload, the referee jumped, giving Monroe the successful defense, though many thought the stoappge was quick

This card shatters our previous record for high gate (also in California) and despite our home base being Arizona, I think we need to hold at least three cards in Cali each year.Monroe was impressive in his first defense and fought smartly, avoiding a striking battle with the clever challenger. It was thought that Deschanel would test Bogdonovich on the ground, but he didn't even try a takedown and J-Bog dropped him twice, so he will still be untested against high level wrestling heading into a likely title shot against Dreck. Sly Twinge's mouth has made him popular as Franklyn calls him out after his demolition of Fitz.On a good financial note, we only lose $10,404 on the card, Edward Zahn leaves

BYU 14 12-14-2014 08:50 AM

Gamma is back to pecking at my roster, offering contracts to HW Oscar Gomez and LHW Justin Brannagh. I offer both small bumps, with the intent to definitely keep Brannagh, but Gomez can go if they counter offer.

Gamma counters on Gomez and we bid him adieu, which leaves us with 20 heavyweights, still plenty and Brannagh signs a new contract with us. Wink Deschanel leaves Mean Machines camp amid rumors of dissatisfaction after his loss to Bogdonovich.

We announce the signing of our Main Event for ECW 6: November Reign (in November of course) as Sylvester Collins will defend the ECW Heavyweight strap against Damien Jones, in what promise to be a brawl. We also release the full card for our next show, ECW 5: Fall Throwdown next month.

Mort Slingsby, who is scheduled to fight Deverill Butt in November suffers a broken ankle training and the fight is off. Brady Crawford will step in and fight Butt in his place.

We sign two Heavyweights to bring our total to 22. The new additions are 18 year old newcomer Douglas Acid, a 6’8 giant with a 1-0 pro record and 36 yr old journeyman Soren Jellyman, who is 13-10 and lost to Wilson Franklyn at a local show right before we signed Franklyn.

Talk about three minutes of excitement, Stewart came out throwing haymakers and dropped Dreck one minute into the fight with a crisp right hand, then pouncing on top of him to try and put him to the sleep. The champion was able to deal with the onslaught however, then trapped an arm and threw his right leg over Stewart securing a triangle.Stewart elevated Dreck, then dropped him hard to the canvas, but Dreck maintained the hold, locked it in tight and Stewart was forced to tap, giving 'The Green Machine' his first successful defense.

Dammit, we can’t outbid Gamma and lose Gideon Navarro, that loss hurts us.

Dan Capers suffers a leg injury, but is still good to go against MacGregor Dare at November Reign.

In response to the Gamma raids I sign former Gamma fighters HW Fatuma Roy 22-11 for $1,950 per fight and MW Ashley Ballard (Linfield’s brother) 13-3 for $2,000 a fight, as well as MW prospect Kramer Mayweather 6-0-1 on the local circuits for $1,250 a fight. All good additions to our roster.

We announce the main event for our January show as Isaiah Monroe is scheduled to make his second defense of the middleweight title against #1 contender Esteban Vega in Gamma’s backyard of Las Vegas! It is also rumored that Sly Twinge, who has had no issues calling others out, will be paired with Wilson Franklyn, who called him out after his last win, with a promise to knock the fat off of him.

HWSylvester Collins 8-0 © vsDamien Jones 8-0
This is expected to be a slugfest but the 1st round sees Collins take it to the ground inside a minute and it stays there most of the round with no real danger. The 2nd round features even striking, with Jones tagging Collins late, prompting the latter to take him down again, with the 3rd round following a similar pattern.Collins really asserts himself over the final two rounds and spends most of the final round on Jones back, pounding away.To his credit Jones weathers the storm and even fights off two submission attempts, but Collins easily retains his title

Wrap up
Granted action was not stellar tonight, but a drop of 20 points in crtical acclaim from the last show hurts and I am not happy that we suffer an attendance drop for the first time ever. The main event was short on fireworks, but Bill Brown may be one of the slickets submission artists in ECW, his armbar transition win over Burridge was pure art and he will be a star we need to keep.We end up losing $21,291 on this card as the joy over the last shows profit is short lived, as it is clear our home state will not be our best market.Collins Lundie sustains a minor hand injury in his fight, nobody else dinged up beyond the normal wear and tear one gets from being pounded on for 15 to 25 minutes.

Worst nightmare comes true as I lose Bill Brown to Gamma, who bids a lower per fight amount, but higher win bonus. He is locked up with them for 4 fights over 2 years. Worst loss for our promotion yet! I submit an offer to Evan Pizzarro, a welterweight currently fighting on local shows, but he can make Middleweight limit.

Nothing major going on in the world except those crazy Japanese fighters making racist remarks on social media again, with Tetsuji Myojin being the latest offender.

We celebrate our first year in business as the year ends and post our latest financial summary, which I am fairly happy with and with a big January show looming in Vegas I hope to get 2002 off to a great start.

BYU 14 12-19-2014 03:52 PM

Heading into towards the one year anniversary of our first show it is time for some reflection as I sit down with Dean Guest.

Looking back
We have held 7 shows in our first full year of operation and at the end of show 7 our status elevated from low level regional to mid level regional. We actually made profit in two of the preceding 13 months and are in a great position to actually be making money by year’s end. Despite the fact that we are still the smallest ‘major’ company in the world, we are currently riding more momentum than anyone, including GAMMA.

Looking ahead
With our first card at Mid regional in the MMA hotbed of California and with the headline fight being announced as Dreck/Bogdonovich, we should break the 1000 mark in attendance and set a new gate record. We decide to add the Welterweight division in April and will now look to run 8 or 9 cards in 2002 as well, with the shows being monthly once we get the welters running full swing.

We add some fighters to replace recent retirements
Natural WW prospect Evan Pizzarro, who has somehow gone unsigned despite an 8-0 record, signs for a $1,400 per fight base and will compete as a MW for us. Once we expand to add the Welters later in the year, he will bump down and hopefully be the standard bearer of the division.

We add some additional talent, LH Joshua Hope at $1900 per fight for 6 fights and MW Julio Gutierrez for the same amount over 5 fights.

Two Weeks before the ECW 8 card, Nate MacReary suffers a major stomach injury and is out for his fight against Fatuma Roy. Gareth Grundy agrees to step in for MacReary on short notice for an extra inducement, though Roy should annihilate him. The worst part of this is that Big Mac will be out for 18 months!

Our latest rankings and the full card for ECW 8: My Bloody Valentine are released.

I decide to shoot for an April debut of the Welterweight division and offers out to 19 of them, which would give us 20 to start (Pizarro dropping down) if they all sign. Zeke Eliot and Agustin Gonzalez appear to be among the best.

We outbid Gamma to retain the services of Jerry Bogdonovich and the Welterweight signings start to come in, we sign 18 and after the February show will drop Pizarro and one other Middleweight down.

Next up, Gamma has offered Big Magic a contract!! You have to be kidding me? This guy is a one trick pony that I have been protecting since his debut loss, I wish I could schedule him against Franklyn, let him get destroyed and let Gamma take him. This is strictly a PR move, but I built him, so I want to capitalize on any earning power he has, forcing me to counter bid.

ECW 8: My Bloody Valentine- February 23rd, 2002 - California

The fight everyone has been clamoring for and Dreck tempts fate in the 1st, standing with J-Bog and getting dropped for his troubles, wheere he quickly pull guard and weathers the storm.Dreck smartens up and looks to keep Bogdonovich pinned against the cage for the next two rounds, though Jerry manages to land some big shots in the 3rd.The 4th sees J-Bog land some more big shots and he looks to have the lead going into the last round, where he rocks Dreck again, then a sudden change as Dreck gets a takedown and out of nowhere steals it with an armbar!!

The main event was everything the fans hoped for and credit has to be given to Dreck for taking some bombs, and snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, can you anyone say rematch?Hersch called out the Champion after his lackluster win, but you kind of need to bring some excitement to the cage to earn a shot and his fight sucked.Fatuma roy was equally unimpressive after a fast start, spending the entire 2nd round on his back.Derron Barton is showing some promise and may be ready for the main card his next fight as he has two impressive wins.Didn't reach the attendance figures we wanted, but still new high marks in both, so it is still a big positive and we make $20,961!!!

Now some good news, we sign a TV deal with National Pride TV for 7 shows and secure the services of Jeffrey Story as commentator, I will provide color commentary. They will broadcast both ECW 9 and ECW 10, so I change marketing to advanced local.

To replenish the HW ranks I sign Gamma castoffs Zair Williams and Abe Locke, both super Heavies who will have to trim down.
Moe Muschin injures his elbow forcing cancellation of his fight against Joey Valdez. It was a prelim fight so no big deal.

ECW 9 now has major issues as Ashley Ballard suffers a major knee injury and his fight with Reed Howlett is off. We make Lemonade out of Lemons and match Howlett up with Joey Valdez after the latter had his fight with Muschin cancelled, so we still have 5 main card fights.

Our Television debut, but our most hyped fighters on the card, Collins and Pizzarro, both lose decisions in what can be considered upsets, though Collins had some serious holes exposed in his game against the elite wrestler Hoynes. With the new champion, the Heavyweight division is now thrown into a state of chaos, with Sly Twinge having the chance to emerge as the next challenger if he can get be Damien Jones in his next fight.Still, our first TV show is an overwhelming success financially as we take in $143,400 in advertising revenue and net a profit of $132,433 for the show, despite a decrease in live attendance. Our popularity gain is the highest in several months and is a nice boost

Wink Deschanel was scheduled to fight Tyrone Malik at ECW 10, but suffers a minor elbow injury. He is out and journeyman Samuel Russo will step in to fight Malik in his place. We also announce the main event for ECW 11 in June, as a Welterweight Champion will be crowned as Callum Henson takes on Feliz Matterson Jr, the top two ranked fighters available, with Gus Fitzpatrick earning a shot at the winner.

We sign former pro boxer Dennis Borgomeo to fight in our Light Heavyweight division for $1,450 per fight. He will make his MMA debut for us, most likely at the July show.

Sylvester Collins has left Halverson’s team, most likely over his loss to Hoynes for the HW belt and is said to be looking for a new team with strong standup trainers.

Gamma comes after Rupert Dreck again and we can’t afford to lose him, so I offer the unheard of sum for us of $6000 per fight for 6 fights. He ends up resigning with us, but the final cost is $7000 per fight, yikes!

Our Sportube agreement expires in 2 months and with a TV contract in place, we will be pulling their rights to show our content for free.

Evan Pizzarro leaves the Pittsburgh Steel camp, apparently not wanting to train any longer with Gus Fitzpatrick after the latter defeated him.

Stymied in their bid for Dreck, Gamma now pursues Brody Howles, who is set to be Dreck’s next challenger, we are forced to ante up, raising to $4,500 a fight after Gamma counters. We must now sweat it out.

We go hard after Gamma WW champ Bobby Brubaker, offering $11,000 per fight, it is vain as expected, as the best welterweight in the world resigns with the big boys.

Instead of the gold ring, we get two Gamma castoffs in MW Thomas Smith 15-5 signs for $2,000 per fight, 5 fights after being let go and WW Lloyd McAllister 16-6, let go in March after his 3rd straight loss comes on board for $1,500 per fight. No fights signed yet, but I am hoping for a Rupert Dreck vs Joshua Hope main event for the LHW title, a fight that should leave a great first impression on this unexplored territory since Hope hails from Edmonton. The loser here is Brody Howles, who will now have to wait to face the winner and will probably appear on the same card. We also vault into the #6 MMA company in the world passing KDM FC.

Stan Still hurts is back and is out of his fight with Taye Burnett at ECW 11: Lonestar Showdown. No Heavyweights are available, but Dwayne Allen offers to take a catchweight fight. I decide against it and we will go with only 2 prelim fights on the card.

Gamma comes after Justin Brannagh, I offer a raise to $3,800 to keep him. Gamma counters and it eventually costs me $4,200 per fight to keep him.

Next Gamma comes after breakout star Cal Hillson, who I am paying the obscenely low amount of $735 per fight. The offer $1,000, I go to $1,600. They counter and I go to $2,000, we will see how this plays out.

Complete card for ECW 11: Lonestar Showdown in Texas, which features a so-so main event, but a stacked undercard, including a much anticipated fight between Twinge and Jones, which has turned nasty over the last couple of weeks with Twinge initiating an ugly war of words between the camps.

Wrap up
Our worst commercial rating yet and the first time we actually dip in popularity as the 'loaded' undercard did not cpme through, with the main event actually being the best fight. After a very impressive win over Roy, Franklyn lets Sly Twinge know that he has a spot on his dance card for him, Hillson was being completely outboxed, but his power will insure he is always dangerous, a big win for the 'Roughneck', Julio Gutierrez challenges Hunter Scribbins after his win.We only spend $36,715 on fighter purses, allowing us to clear $124,499 in profits, thanks to broadcast revenue. but National TV Pride complains, demanding more star power on the next show, which won't even feature a title fight

BYU 14 12-30-2014 08:24 AM

We are able to outbid Gamma for Cal Hillson, but he gets a new 2K per fight bump, going to $2600.00 per fight and catapults in the rankings to the #1 spot. Strangely Fatuma Roy stays at #1 in the HW division after his loss to Franklyn, but everyone knows that Sly Twinge will get the next shot.

Rupert Dreck is ready to resume training and will defend against Canadian Joshua Hope at our first show in Canada, ECW 13, which should do big business, at least on TV and give us a footprint in Canada.

Our SportsTube contract is officially over, so hopefully our TV ratings will climb now that you can’t access any content for free

Gamma is now trying to sign Abe Locke, who has yet to debut, which makes no sense as the former Alpha-1 fighter had lost 3 straight with that company and has since gone 2-0 in local fights. I up my salary offer as he could be a solid gatekeeper type for us.

Carson Neuwirth and Wink Deschanel had signed for the ECW 13 show in August, however Neuwirth has suffered a leg injury, so I bring in Jethro Munter as a replacement and this fight will headline the prelims.

Isaiah Monroe becomes the first ECW fighter to crack the top 25 overall world ratings, coming in as the #22 ranked Middleweight in the world.

In big international news, BCF Middleweight Champion Rob Baines has also signed a standard contract with SIGMA, which could make for an interesting dynamic in the coming months.

A nice rebound in the ratings and we clear $124,486 on the show with the broadcast revenue, so no complaints from National Pride TV this time out and it should set us up for an easy renewal with them when the time comes.Monroe is already locked into a September title defense against Hunter Scribbins, so it will likely be January before Hersch gets the winner of that one, but his ground game was flawless tonight.J-Bog remains the most dangerous striker in ECW and if you don't get your hands on him before he touches you it is usually trouble.Ed Burridge calls out Julio Gutierrez after his win, while Gutierrez had previsouly challenged Scribbins, good times loom in the MW division

Another big month with 40+ K in profit, through August will be interesting as we venture into Canada, where we are virtually unknown, for the first time. I have hit marketing hard and with three Canadian born fighters at the top of the card (Hope, Collins and Gilbert) I am hoping to make an immediate splash as I would like to get on TV there by end of next year.

Eric Dartmouth, with three losses in a row at Light Heavy requests a move down to Middleweight, which I grant.

We manage to keep Abe Locke from Gamma, but it costs us a bump to $2,100 per fight.

We sign former Gamma Heavyweight Leon Banks (33-15) to a 4 fight deal at $3,000 per fight, he needs a few final pay days and we need a name in the gate keeper role, win/win.

We also sign newly debuting Light Heavy David Buentello, a 25 year old with decent hands and a mid level grappling background, who will earn $500 per fight for 7 fights and rounding out the new additions is 20 year old Middleweight prospect ‘Satanic’ Ali Pyke, a good amateur kick boxer, who is looking to make the transition to MMA. He gets $400 per fight to start.

As expected we take a beating at the gate, but broadcast revenue allows us to absorb the poor attendance numbers and still make a profit of $119,756 as we rake in a record $208,200 in ads\subs and more importantly have a footprint in Canada, while increasing our popularity in America as well. The main event gives Canada a new hometown hero as Hope proved surprisingly superior to Dreck in the wrestling department.Taye Burnett got back on the winning track with a demolition of Lundie and Ryan Beeker showed great promise in destroying the veteran Kaye.As long as we have TV we can afford to do things like this twice a year, Bernard Blue suffers a moderate hand injury in his win

BYU 14 01-04-2015 05:57 PM

Sylvester Collins is up for renewal and despite two sub-par outings, I offer him a 6 fight extension at $6,000 per fight.

We also have 2 shows left with National Pride TV and coming off our biggest revenue earner with them, I put in a request for an extension.

Popularity wise we now sit at 43.9% in America and 5% in Canada, the next place we travel will be Mexico to get a footprint there as well.

Finances and card for ECW 14, Brody Howles is taking a risk, but a win here will definitely secure a title shot and the busiest champion in MMA is back at it!

Sylvester Collins agrees to a 6 fight extension at $6,000 per fight, now let’s hope he gets back to being the scourge that we all thought he would be.

Great news on the TV front as National Pride TV gives us a 7 show extension, hopefully the money continues to flow so we can hold shows in Canada and Mexico to build there, while relying on the TV profit to keep going.

French Dancer, Bart Diggs and Collins Lundie all want to drop down in weight, so Dancer and Diggs go to Welter (won’t make a difference for Dancer) and Lundie will now fight at light heavy.

An overwhelming success as we set records in live attendance and live gate receiptes as Monroe as definitely assumed the position of alpha male in the company and is once again dominant.Though it was not discussed by either fighter, Thomas Smith would be an intriguing choice for his next defense as a win over the former Gamma contender could propel him to elite status. We also set a record in advertising income, leading to a total profit of $251,192 for this show, staggering numbers that will allow us to chase some big talent down the road.Malik and Ashur both suffer hand injuries and should each be out 4-5 months.

BYU 14 01-08-2015 11:02 AM

Record month again in revenue, with our first $100,000 gate, we take a bold step and prepare to launch a small internet based subscription service called ECW Fightcast. The cost will be $751,250 which will eat up almost all of our $759,164 reserve, but we will be able to expend the service into both Mexico and Canada as well as the US which will fit our aggressive growth strategy and tap a market that has yet to be fully explored. This will either put us on the fast track to National status or destroy the company, but the risk is worth it.

Twinge is just the type of fighter that makes anyone look bad as he is strong as an ox and this lets him make up for his lack of polish, fortunately he does not win.Zoff calls out Randy Carsley for his next fight, but I am thinking he may be in line for a title shot, with Marshall struggling to keep enough weight on to stay at Light Heavy I will probably drop him to Middleweight, where he will not be giving up 15+ pounds each fight.Despite the less than stellar card, we still manage to have decent ratings and make a profit of $166,170, though I am sure National Pride TV will not be happy with the quality. We will see how the web sub business goes at month end.Tom Essy suffers a minor facial injury, out 3 months

BYU 14 01-10-2015 08:05 AM

Hanging on financially after starting our own internet based subscription service, but we should be okay with the TV revenue as high as it is, plus our next card is in Texas and features a local product in the main event and the always popular J-Bog on the undercard.

I am working to get the internet service ready to broadcast starting with ECW 16 and am hoping it will not be an issue with National Pride TV on the America broadcast, if it is I may have to alternate carriers, or see if it is possible to just stream Canada and Mexico when we have an event on National Pride TV.

BYU 14 01-10-2015 09:40 AM

We add a new signing, LW Kickboxer Colin McCoffee, who will fight on our WW division for now, 5 fights at $300 per fight.

Extensions go to Sly Twinge, 5 more fights at $1,900 per fight, journeyman Brady Crawford 3 fights at $1,000 per fight, Lachlan Bowen gets $1,250 per fight for 5 more fights and Tom Essy $1,900 per fight for 5 more as well.

F’n Gamma comes after Isaiah Monroe again, not happening, he is the face of ECW, I offer $9,000 per fight to get him to stay and will go higher if they counter. They counter twice (a first) so it ends up costing $14,000 per fight, but we keep our marquee guy. He signs for 6 fights and can now officially make a decent living fighting full time.

ECW Fightcast, our internet sub service is set to offer the next 7 shows over the web, hoping this pays off. National Pride TV is willing to share content in the US, so we are golden there, Fightcast will now help us reach Canada and Mexico.

Next Gamma comes after Sam Hoynes, Randall Donnelly, Dennis Borgomeo and Joshua Hope. Lose two of our champions? I think not, I counter offer all four and will go as high as I need to keep them, with Donnelly being the only possible exception. Borgomeo leaves for Gamma and while I liked his name value from his boxing days, I was already too high at $6,000 per fight, so they can have him and ruin him. Randall Donnelly stays for $4,800 per fight, Hoynes re ups for $8,000 per over 5 fights and Hope resigns for 6 fights, also at $8,000 per to match Hoynes deal, we survive the onslaught, for now.

To bolster the HW division I add Gamma castoff Lenny ‘Da Hook’ DiMaria, a big guy who is like the MMA version of Tony Galento, he comes cheap at $1,100 per fight and will have to cut weight to make heavyweight. I also add newly debuting fighter Albert Stevenson to the HW division, $1,100 per for 5 fights, he has great hands.

Next attempt to raid us is Wes Hersch, one of our best middleweight fighters, I have to empty the coffers for him too. They also offer Adrian Pascal, Wilson Franklyn and in a surprise want Fatuma Roy back, need Pascal and Franklyn and Roy just signed to fight in January, so I need him at least until then. Heading into ECW 16 all these guys are up in the air, Hersch has been countered 3 times already and this will be a nail biter. Roy is countered, but I do not increase his offer, if they want him that bad they can have him.

Isaiah Monroe will earn his first big raise at ECW 18 in January as he will give Esteban Vega a rematch for the MW strap. He won their first fight at ECW 7 by 2nd round TKO and if he gets by Vega again it will be the winner of the Hersch/Gutierrez match that gets the next shot.

Bad blood arose during the build up and Hillson refuses to touch gloves, both men come out swinging, but Hope is more precise in his striking and holds an early edge.Hope's defense is excellent as Hillson is throwing wild looping bombs, landing very few and eventually leading to Hope getting a takedown in the 3rd, where he locks Hillson in a choke, that the latter fights off.Hillson is gassed by the 4th and goes down from a hard right late in the round, Hope steps up the pace in the final round and poleaxes Hillson with a straight right, rendering him unconcious!

Hillson, whose pre-fight antics did not endear him to his home crowd was exposed as Hope used precision striking and patience to drag him into deep water, outclassing him along the way.Gutierrez calls out Hunter Scribbins (You would think he would want Monroe) after his win, while Bogdonovich requests a rematch with Rupert Dreck, the only man to beat him, and Guy Broom calls out Damien Jones, cold on the heels of his underwhelming win.Our popularity gains in order are for the US, Canada, Mexico and ECW Fightcast makes enough of an impact in the latter countries to be considered a success, we clear $189,940 with revenue of $162,715 coming from advertising and subscriptions

BYU 14 01-15-2015 09:26 AM

Despite MMA thriving worldwide, we have our first major casualty as KDM FC has filed bankruptcy and closed their doors.

We secure an extension with Wes Hersch, 6 fights at $7,500 per fight

Ramp up for the introduction of our lightweight division is under way as I offer contracts to 15 fighters, including a few from XCC

Current Financials and full card for ECW 17, not the strongest card up top, through new signee and Gamma vet Leon Banks should draw some interest.

Fatuma Roy has left ECW and gone back to Gamma, no real loss here, he was only a gatekeeper for us and won’t be missed after going 1-1 with ECW.

Extensions/resigning: Wilson Franklyn resigns with us for 5 fights at $8,000 per fight, Carl Ratcliffe signs a 5 extension at $1,900 per fight, Adrian Pascal pens a 5 fight extension at $7,500 per fight, John Fitzwallace 3 fights at $1,000 per fight and Blaze Weeks 3 fights at $800 per fight.

We sign our first lightweight as Carl Chenowith inks a 5 fight deal worth $1,200 per fight, followed closely by fourteen more, including Sammy Newton, Aaron McBroom, Vince Dahl, Darren Southall and Nicky Shapiro among others.

Gamma comes after Guy Broom and Jerry Bogdonovich, Broom is not as important as J-Bog, who I will go to extreme lengths to keep. Guy Broom doesn’t even need a counter from Gamma and accepts over 2,000 less per fight to join the evil empire, while after a couple of back and forths we retain the services of Jerry Bogodovich, who will now make $8,000 a fight for his next 5 outings.

Mateo Jane, 0-3 as a middleweight asks to go down to Welter so he can take some beatings there, I oblige.

Wow is all that can describe Mattherson's dismantling of Gonzalez, as he defeats an accomplished catch wrestler with ease, setting up a big money fight against either Chad Zoff or Gus Fitzpatrick in his next outing.Alleyne seems much more comfortable at the higher weight and can now be considered a contender at light heavyweight after smartly escaping the middleweights and Isaiah Monroe.A surprising drop in attendance and get in what had been our hottest state, though the main event was arguably not our most awe inspring on paper, though Mattherson's performance may change that next time he headlines. We come out $164,044 ahead on the show, and I drop McNally to Welterweight

Main Event of the Year – Fjodor Kanchelskis beat Edgar van den Hoogenband (Sigma)
Upset of the Year – Lito Alcala (over Supachai Thamsatchanan – KDM FC)

Dwayne Alleyne signs a 5 fight extension at $1,900 per fight and add 6 more lightweights to the roster, giving me 24 in the division currently. Two new signings are HW Tyler Gumble, a well respected kick boxer who has turned to MMA and signs for 5 fights at $1,450 per, along with LHW Karl Martin who I get for $500 per fight, so he gets a 7 fight deal.

Gamma is now after 5-0 LHW prospect Dean Capers, who is making just over $800 with us, so I offer a raise to $2,500 per fight, they counter, I go to $3,500 and he elects to stay with us. Next they target MW Ed Burridge, I make a single counter offer of $6,500 per fight, really more than he is worth, they counter and I let him go.

We have a main event for our February show as Sam Hoynes will defend the heavyweight strap against Randall Donnelly. Though Donnelly is only 15-8 overall, he is 3-0 with ECW and is the most worthy challenger available.

Gamma now offers our Welterweight champion Mattherson, who is woefully underpaid, so I counter with an offer of $5,000 per fight. A bidding war ensues and it eventually costs me $8,000 per fight to keep him. I also add MW and Gamma vet Dexter Darling to the MW roster to replace Burridge. The D-Man is past his prime at 35 and 18-6-1, but he brings name recognition to the company.

Monroe dodges a huge bullet in a very unpopular decision and though you could make a case that he won 3 of the 5 rounds, the two that Vega won were both decisive and the 4th should probably have been 10-8, these two may meet again and at last a chink has appeared in Monroe's armour.Collins continues to underwhelm in his wins, but at least Capers pays me back for the investment in keeping him away from Gamma with an impressive win.Our best numbers yet thanks to Monroe's drawing power and we make a profit of $214,373 on the show thanks to the record gate, but I think he needs some time off.Fatuma Roy takes his boredom back to Gamma, he was 1-2 with us.
