What league structure do you prefer?

I'm just curious about this...as we've never formally asked and now I'm wondering about it.

Young Drachma 03-07-2013 05:54 PM

Obviously you could want status quo and also want interleague play, that's the reason for the last option. Again, just for my own edification.

MoenPDC 03-07-2013 05:59 PM

I voted one league, just because I hate being in a league with no DH

no DH = real baseball

(but then again, this is all about fake baseball, so I'm not sure what I'm trying to say!)

I hate divisions. Would be so happy to be rid of them.

sttfrk 03-07-2013 09:18 PM

I voted and would also support the DH rule for every one due to the way OOTP handles no-DH leagues.

Young Drachma 03-07-2013 11:41 PM

Since we play with a balanced schedule, there's no real reason to have divisions other than for cosmetic purposes. Also, since it's an even number there's no real reason that the AL couldn't add Portland and Worcester. Well other than it'd be harder for AL teams to make the playoffs than for NL teams I guess.

But it enables me to give Ramz his team back by adding the Fathers to the NL in that case...so there's that.

I dotn care. and there is no trout option.

Started to add one...

I got rid of divisions for this year. Mostly because I didn't want to see a team getting screwed out of a playoff spot because of a divisional quirk. We play balanced, so it never really mattered anyway.

Plus, by adding San Diego (Ramz) again and a 2nd expansion club to the NL and switching to single table in each league, it enabled me to move Portland and Worcester to the AL.

Yes, it means that one league has two more teams, but that won't be a forever thing I suspect.

Gomer 03-08-2013 06:50 AM

Hopefully the no divisions thing won't be forever either.

That sucks.

I guess you were right, the poll really didn't mean anything.

Subby 03-08-2013 08:08 AM

I can hear Gomer crying from here. :D

Divisions were cosmetic. The schedule in the NL is exactly the same as it was. But it's fairer this way anyway. And this is just a test of it. It probably won't be forever if we get to 24 though.

That's the closest smiley we had to the finger.

We gotta do something about all these nice smileys.

And for the record, divisions, even in a balanced schedule, aren't just cosmetic. They do affect the playoffs, and they do affect rivalries.

Rivalries, meh. I was more afraid that the divisions were impacting our parity situation. As in, some teams were benefiting from the distribution of when their games were and against who. So I want to see if on an open table if it's better or worse and then can revisit whether to go back or not.

Subby 03-08-2013 11:39 AM

I think you get plenty of rivalries without divisions. Besides, the leagues are just big divisions. Your rival is the other good team you play while you are trying to win a championship.

HerbD 03-08-2013 11:57 AM

I'm gonna have to agree with what Joe has been say in that this league seems to be in transition 100% of the time.

Subby 03-08-2013 12:23 PM

Yeah I am going to stop paying to play in this league if this shit continues.

And that's why you have a "silent majority."
