So, none of this is a big deal... but sitting for hours and hours in a slow-drop draft has its own pitfalls.

Three picks away from my 3rd rounder for WTF, I was really excited with the pass blocking OT I expected to get, and somewhat waffling between him and an intriguing pass rushing DE. I get to contemplate this for a full day or so.

They they are both gone by my actual pick. Naturally.

Anyway, got a lineman, probably a guy we move inside to play, I reckon...

Washington: KickStand takes T Rodney Caldwell with the 3.13 pick.

Busy day here IRL, but Ravens last three picks have been a punt returner, kick returner, and a longshot quarterback. It's possible that one or both return men become long term assets, at least, the other guy is just 4th round grist tossing darts at an important but far away target.

QuikSand 06-15-2021 08:43 PM

Super tired after long day in real life, and find that Ben/Commish has posted his intent to quit from running this league. I'm in no situation to put up a fight. Might be an off-ramp.

Chas in Cinti 06-16-2021 10:04 AM

Don't make this affect me... I still expect my Quik Dynasty Thread... hope you have some ideas... ;)

QuikSand 06-16-2021 01:36 PM

I'm flattered. We'll see.

If I were to cut back to, say, two slower-moving FOF leagues, would I be on balance happier with my life or not? Not certain of that.

QuikSand 06-17-2021 10:23 AM

So, stuff going on I guess...

Baltimore transactions, the last few stages:

LG Bryant Billig

Nothing too dramatic here. Retained one OL, lost one to Ben's Falcons. Fine with that outcome.

Am not really excited about this team, I'm sure it shows. It's possible the team is pretty good, that's not it. The week off definitely dulled any mental momentum. And the sense that the league may fold has me, semi-consciously, committing even less mental energy than usual here.

QuikSand 06-17-2021 10:25 AM

Everything following the multi-year plan, thus far, basically. Having an organizing principle has me thinking a bit here, but... still not exactly abuzz, mentally.

QuikSand 06-20-2021 09:58 AM

Well, for a clue to my FOF mentality right now... it's late on a leisurely Sunday morning and I'm just now opening up this league to have a sneak peek at my rookies, and sift through late free agency. Nominally one of the best stages in a season. Alas.

(the file was posted Friday morning, next one due Monday morning)

QuikSand 06-20-2021 10:02 AM

Input from the BenBot is standard hectoring of my objectively rotten drafts:

30
BAL
QuikSand
1(21) SS Wesley McCormick 29/65
7(21) RB Brett Horn 36/42
6(21) RT Abraham Armstrong 27/51
2(30) TE Weston Quinn 28/46
1(21) SS Wesley McCormick 29/65
7(21) RB Brett Horn 36/42
6(21) RT Abraham Armstrong 27/51
2(30) TE Weston Quinn 28/46
60.0

I see McCormick looking really good (CB1 or S1 material) and then flotsam, mostly... WR Delgado as KR fine, TE Quinn as a long term TE2 but low endurance, maybe the tackle could play a bit.

QuikSand 06-20-2021 10:10 AM

QuikSand 06-20-2021 10:10 AM

oh fuck all of this, that was a 10m post with some formatted stuff

QuikSand 06-20-2021 11:23 AM

in brief, i have a wave of decent young BAL WRs, but the obvious guy to be the chem leader might have to go to make it all click

QuikSand 06-20-2021 11:27 AM

Washington draft not at all sucky like the Ravens (in the 30s), but wayyyyy better (in the 20s)!

29
WAS
KickStand
1(11) RB Carl Blouir 54/71
7(13) RDT Avery Wiggins 26/45
2(10) QB Rob Sicotte 7/43
5(11) SLB Kyle Willis 28/51
6(10) RDT Stephen Buckley 11/43
3(13) RT Rodney Caldwell 20/43
1(11) RB Carl Blouir 54/71
7(13) RDT Avery Wiggins 26/45
2(10) QB Rob Sicotte 7/43
5(11) SLB Kyle Willis 28/51
6(10) RDT Stephen Buckley 11/43
3(13) RT Rodney Caldwell 20/43
60.1

...sigh.

Anyway, based on my sneak peek, I see:

QB Sicotte might actually get a season in the saddle to see if he might be the guy. RB Blouir looks very good... I really do not want to blow it with a position switch, but... T Caldwell a bit disappointing, maybe a long term G...LB Willis might stick as a WILB run-stopper.

Honestly not awful. If Sicotte actually looks okay, and gets through his rookie jitters, that would make the whole draft worth it, of course. He got auto-assigned jersey #2 and that's likely the right role for him forever, but... well, you know, beggars, choosers, that whole perpetual misquote* serves here.

* - (technically, the quote is "beggars can be no choosers" but nobody says it that way)

I'm not in full-on "play for the future" with the Ravens, but a few of these young guys are with that sort of mindset. And with cap space, short term deals on guys who'd be RFAs afterward seems smart to me.

DT Gruden looks like a fringe talent, but a great long term chem leader, thus the heavy push for him.

QuikSand 06-21-2021 10:02 AM

...oh, and a run-around QB named Ferrari? Have to love that. (He might actually be useful, tbh)

Like, absurdly too many.

Thing is, I sense this league isn't going to last until our "target year." The conversation about its future has fizzled out without any kind of solution. I think the GML is basically dunzo. Alas.

QuikSand 06-22-2021 09:12 AM

Posted (by me) in the league forum:

Quote:

Sorry to be a jerk here... but if the league is done after this season, I'm not likely to find the time over my next few rather busy days to tinker small-scale with my rosters and submit an honest file. Apologies overall, though I doubt either of my teams was truly poised for anything special this season, regardless, so whatever loss occurs shouldn't alter the high end of the league much.

I'm sitting here looking at making a zillion cutdowns on both teams... and honestly, to what end? To target 8.2 wins rather than 7.9 wins this year? Can't do it, I don't think.

I suspect I'm just done with this.

Kodos 06-22-2021 12:15 PM

Thanks for all the work you've put into this thread over the years. It's been fun to peruse this thread.

tzach 06-24-2021 01:09 PM

to me this thread is integral part of GML -- there wasn't a single day that i wouldn't check here while i was engaged in the league. and when i wasn;t involved with the league, i'd still check from time to time to catch up

thanks a lot quik

QuikSand 06-25-2021 06:04 PM

thanks for the feedback, it has been a fun ride

quick coda... both teams left untethered went 10-6, earned a playoff win, but got knocked out before the title game... okay then

QuikSand 09-18-2021 11:58 AM

might f around and create a similar thread, as i have perhaps unwisely taken on a new team in some batshit not-really-the-NFL league, and my first offseason is underway

Chas in Cinti 09-19-2021 04:55 PM

OH YEAH!
