The shield is pretty nice bhlloy. It is a +2 shield of reflection which reflects enemy's gaze attack.

well I've made the difficult decision to camp out in this room till the next djinni sale-with no healing items, I can't take the risk of moving and having an encounter like I just did. Of course I just found a potion in this room...so watch it be a potion of healing...

I believe the id powder or identifying an item does not tell you if it is cursed or not(I could be wrong) so you are taking some risk in equipping the shield also.
