I basically was rooted in place and ate attacks from his eyestalks b/f the battle even began.

After they attacked 6 times with magic spells the battle began. It was back and forth. I was able to kill him with room to spare. I'm nowhere near deaths door is that is what you are asking.

I will say that if you don't have a stash of HP you don't want to be anywhere near this fight. You need to be able to survive the attacks @ the start to even engage the beholder.

well it had icy blast and cure light wounds and cure medium wounds. We found out icy blast is not good.
