I am a retired politician who has a long history of public service. I'm not campaigning for the leadership role, but I am throwing that skill out there.

timmae 02-16-2015 06:33 PM

I have to wonder if the skills at important for the roles rather than any actions the person may actually contribute. If that is the case then I am thinking I may be best as lead scientist... For what it is worth.

timmae 02-16-2015 06:33 PM

At equals are.

Great we have a regular ol Tom Mason here!

Hello, compatriots. Checking in for the evening.

Given the discussion, but lack of voting, I think I should emphasize my (incorrect?) understanding that these leadership positions and our D1 goal need to be decided tonight.

What we do not have is a system of governing ourselves once we have landed. I strongly feel that establishing the government should be our number one priority. Without this we may find ourselves falling into chaos.

With that being said, I would like to toss my name into the fold for Sheriff. You, my fellow crewmates, did not know me on Earth, but I have countless years of experience enforcing justice.

I could essentially have made this post, verbatim.

I have law enforcement experience on Earth, and I doubt that there is anyone on this mission that would be better equipped to carry out the sometimes physical nature of enforcing whatever laws we decide upon than myself.

That said, my record isn't perfect, and my physical capability can sometimes cloud higher-order processes. So I would implore the group to 1) focus on constructing government first, 2) electing me as sheriff, and 3) checking my enforcement of the rules we establish.

Not much to reason among the candidates at this point; just making choices based on people whose work I am familiar with and avoiding multiple officeholders.

timmae 02-16-2015 07:50 PM

I think the votes are due Tuesday night at 10pm est... right?

In case I didn't make myself clear, my talents lie best in a leadership role, though no doubt I could help with law enforcement as well. So I thank Mr. Crimson Fox for the nomination there.

My primary concerns for us as a group continues to be safety-both in a physical sense-a sheriff chosen and people chosen to patrol the immediate area, and a survival sense-the biodome being constructed as quickly as possible.

Martial Law has been much needed at times in humanity's history Mr. Dangarion, and may be needed here depending on how events unfold. But no it would not be wise I feel for us to start out that way.

CrimsonFox 02-16-2015 08:03 PM

Had a power outage today. Actually for 2 days. Squirrels chewed through wires. :( Caused our furnace and appliances not to work.

anyway fixed now. thankfully cause we're in the midst of a freezing snowstorm

Nice work, Zinto. I was a police officer.

Zinto 02-16-2015 08:15 PM

I will state once again that I would be a very successful leader in these circumstances. I have the ability and the experience to help run a colony.

I wanted to hear from everyone if possible, as otherwise there are some folks that wouldn't be up for a vote, if it would be helpful. Schmidt and Danny haven't offered themselves anywhere, not sure if I missed anyone else.

Thomkal 02-16-2015 08:31 PM

I voted for Autumn, because his experience as a chief of staff mirrors mine as a general very much I think. A lot of leadership skill, knowledge in many different fields, ability to discipline fairly when called for, etc. I would be looking to vote for people in the other areas with similar qualities as well. So I think it would helpful for those running for a position to be specific about what position(s) they held on Earth if at all possible.

QUESTION FOR EF:

ARE WE ALLOWED TO VOTE FOR OURSELF FOR A POSITION?

Raven 02-16-2015 08:31 PM

Lots of vagueness in those past careers. Many of them could mean anything... I thought we were settlers trying to create a new civilization here?

Suppose Thomkal (a military General?) becomes our leader, and Timmae (a "scientist") becomes our primary scientist. Then what do we become? A military space station?

Yes you may.

JAG 02-16-2015 08:33 PM

At this point I'm inclined to vote timmae as Scientist, I like how he's dug into things so far and probably go for government given more support for that than research. Other than those, still undecided to this point.

I was a private investigator on Earth, a skill set that is likely more useful in a group of 21 colonists + 1 unknown stowaway. With this small of a group we most likely wont need your run of the mill speed trap enforcing police officer.

The first order of business for our sheriff may be to identify this stowaway, and there is no one better suited for this task than myself.

I was a military (Army) general who lead during a time of war. I had to make difficult decisions that were not always popular, but I feel were the correct ones. I am retired now, thus not an active member of the military-so I would not be calling for a draft or martial law or something like that unless the situation here suddenly warranted it. I would not become a dictator if elected, but rather a leader of a democracy.

Personal preference here, but I'm not much in favor or having our leader be influenced by past ties to big business, or to the military. Our resident History Professor is intriguing though.

So a man who has spent his life making military decisions, and telling others what to do, will suddenly allow others to make the decisions democratically? I'm not buying it.
