More importantly, what was with that ending. That's horrible. No sitcom should ever pull crap like that.

Oh boy - this has me looking forward to watching this later like a train wreck.

I'm kind of over this show - we're never going to get decent payoff on the "mother issue" until the last fucking episode of the show. I watch now primarily out of habit and to watch NPH being awesome, not because I really enjoy the show. It's kind of...full of itself now I think.

Thought it was one of the best episodes in a long time until the end.

Interesting...

Logan 01-03-2011 09:00 PM

I noticed it early with the big red 49 on the doctor's desk...which just led to it being a longer distraction. That ending sucked and seems to be really out of nowhere for this show.

DaddyTorgo 01-03-2011 09:26 PM

I didn't think the ending was BAD...just...I dunno...random? Realistic?

Must be some sort of contract situation I presume.

ISiddiqui 01-03-2011 11:35 PM

I actually thought it was incredibly powerful. Realistic, yes. Sometimes when you get the best news, you get some really, really bad news right afterwards.

MrBug708 01-03-2011 11:41 PM

I thought it was a good episode and I too noticed the countdown during the show from 50 to 49

+1

It brought a well needed injection of real-life day-to-day material into the show.

Agreed.

I think I also liked that it was kind of real. I think one of the reasons I really like this show is that I'm about the age of the characters, and it feels real most of the time; this time, it brought up something I think a lot of people my age start to "worry" about, especially as parents get older.

Neon_Chaos 01-05-2011 02:14 AM

And Marshall's line was just perfect...

I thought it was an excellent episode. I noticed the numbers and saw them all. I thought the ending would be something different. That ending was a total surprise.

Racer 01-05-2011 02:31 PM

I thought it was a really good episode as well. I think this season has been better then the last three actually and up there with seasons one and two actually.

Easy Mac 01-06-2011 08:49 PM

I loved this episode. I bawled like fucking John Boehner. Having a kid has made me a giant pussy.

I thought the reveal was well earned. The numbers were a great diversion for the viewers, taking us away from the harsh reality we were going to see.

Also, I really want to see Robin being attacked by an owl.

Lathum 01-09-2011 12:32 AM

Fuck that ending.

Scarecrow 01-18-2011 09:18 PM

"That dress makes you look like a Kansas City whore."

ISiddiqui 01-18-2011 11:06 PM

Great episode, especially Marshall's rant in the snow.

Review: How I Met Your Mother - Landmarks: How I hate your Zoey - HitFix.com

Quote:

These guys have not completely lost their fastball; the arcs involving Marshall and Barney's dads was a reminder of that. But Zoey was just wrong-headed from start (Ted getting in the middle of an unhappy marriage) to finish (this).

Quote:

I don't care in the slightest that Zoey wasn't the Mother. I care that she was both an unfunny character and a fairly unpleasant one, someone who was selfish and manipulative and completely destructive to the harmony of the group, and yet someone the show largely let off the hook for all of that. Even in this final episode, Robin had to couch her instructions to Ted with a "We love Zoey, but..."-style softpedal, which is nonsense. Zoey was horrible.

I guess the season finale is next week? I stick with shows loooooooooong after I should give them up, and there's a good chance I'll stick this one out as long as Neil Patrick Harris is part of the cast, but at this point I feel like How I Met Your Mother's first two seasons were two of the best and funniest in sitcom history but now its really just a giant shitpile occasionally saved by NPH.

Logan 05-10-2011 03:14 PM

I never had a problem being entertained by HIMYM episodes...until the Zoey arc. Such a complete piece of shit.

Lathum 05-10-2011 03:23 PM

I think HIMYM is coming to a point where we need to meet the mother. The whole cycle of Ted dating someone who then ends up not being the mother is getting old.

Easy Mac 05-10-2011 06:30 PM

I thought thecaptain said he destroyed the tape in the History museum episode when he was to Supergalactic McAwesomeville

I still don't think the show needs a resolution. The storylines during the journey need to be compelling and sincere though. If they choose to do a 2 season arc about the mother and then end the series, great, I would enjoy that immensely for sure. But I don't think its required at all for the show to be good.

I know a lot of people here had made similar posts in earlier seasons, but I just strongly disagree. For those who watch Burn Notice and enjoy it, its the exact same thing. As long as they continue to make a fun show with a decent main serialized storyline, I don't really care if it gets dragged out forever and is never resolved.

Dr. Sak 05-10-2011 08:45 PM

I found Zoey attractive so it toned down the annoying factor for me. I still think they need to bring the cupcake girl back!

Radii 05-17-2011 01:20 AM

Initial reaction:

I'm out. Didn't care about the mother storyline as long as there was NPH goodness, but barring a twist, they just made his character worthless.

We'll see how I feel when it comes back, but that's my first instinct.

Logan 05-17-2011 07:24 AM

You really thought they would end the series with Barney unsettled, approaching 40, and still trying to pick up girls at McLaren's (with maybe Randy as his wingman)?

I have plenty of issues with the show but that's the least of them.

gstelmack 05-17-2011 08:42 AM

I bailed a few weeks ago. Still some funny moments, but the storylines as a whole are just not keeping me.

Swaggs 05-17-2011 09:53 AM

HIMYM's ratings have dropped a good bit over the past several weeks. I'm not sure how it fares in context, but it looks like it was drawing in the 8.5-10.5-million range for the first 18 episodes and has dropped down into the mid-6-million range over the past four episodes.

It has been approved for two more seasons, but that has to be an alarming drop (unless there is an overall drop in television viewership, across the board) for a show that has been on the bubble in the past.

I didn't love the Zooey storyline, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Plot-wise I understand it. However, for me to enjoy the show is has to stay funny. Barney wasn't funny when he was dating Robin, thus the show wasn't funny when he was dating Robin because nearly all of the truly funny moments in the show for a very long time have been generated by Barney to me. So my initial reaction is "ok this has been going drastically downhill for awhile now and they just made a decision that will likely make the rest of the series simply not funny".

ISiddiqui 05-18-2011 10:03 AM

Just watched the last 3 episodes of the season. They did need to get Zoey out (its obvious she wasn't the mother, and there needs to be movement there, IMO). I think Barney being married can work. He doesn't just need to go out picking up chicks all the time to be funny, as shown by his GNB job.

Racer 05-18-2011 10:38 AM

hxxp://www.tvline.com/2011/05/himym-craig-thomas-finale-season-7/

Some Q&As from one of the producers regarding the next two seasons. Some interesting stuff and some spoilers. Looks like they have the major details of the last two seasons pretty well planned out.

lordscarlet 05-19-2011 07:17 AM

To me the final episode didn't indicate Barney would not be Barney as the show progresses. There was no indication how far into the future that moment was, and could actually take place after the show ends.

ISiddiqui 05-19-2011 08:20 AM

Well it wouldn't be AFTER the show ends, because it has been asserted that that is where Ted meets the mother.

DaddyTorgo 05-19-2011 08:28 AM

I'm fine with Barney being in a relationship...I think there's still comedic potential in that..."fish out of water" syndrome if you will.

DanGarion 05-20-2011 12:09 PM

During the end of one of the episodes this season, Robin asked Ted if he would be her best man, episode 6.12. He accepted. Also, the line that Barney spoke to Nora at the end is similar to a line that he spoke to Robin, in the beginning of the season, when she too donned a sundress.

Suicane75 05-20-2011 12:35 PM

Can Big Bang Theory fans agree that last night was a jump the shark moment if there ever was one?

I'm hoping that nothing comes out of it honestly. But it was a bit disheartening who ended up in bed together, I called it the second she showed up. Fortunately Sheldon is still hilarious as ever.

DaddyTorgo 05-20-2011 12:58 PM

Yeah - I think nothing will come of it...it'll just be that they were drunk and ended up in bed together and nothing happened. It's just another roadblock to Leonard & Penny getting back together - which I presume is what we'll see early next season.

But it was kinda weak and stupid, yeah.

Swaggs 05-20-2011 01:03 PM

Yeah, didn't like that hook up, at all.

I was just thinking that they had done a good job they had done of nearly doubling their cast in the past season with some fun/interesting female characters (with Bernadette, Amy, and Priya), so I'm not ready to give it shark status yet.

MrBug708 09-20-2011 01:00 AM

Beerucles!

Glad they are bringing back my favorite ex-gf of Ted's

larrymcg421 09-20-2011 01:02 AM

Agreed. She was the best of Ted's exes and I've always been rooting for her to be the mom.

DanGarion 09-20-2011 01:04 AM

She ain't the mom, but glad she is back.

Did anyone else thing the laugh track really sounded extra annoying tonight? Maybe it's just because of the new TV and Sound Bar, but I never realized how terrible it is.

ISiddiqui 09-20-2011 08:11 AM

Beercules was awesome! And it was amusing that they are bring back Victoria, because I think I read an interview with the creator this Summer asking if they were going to bring her back and the creator said something like we've been thinking about it and anything's possible and then Bam!

Radii 09-20-2011 09:58 AM

I read something during the offseason where they discussed a lot of details for this and the next season, they sucked me back in by saying they know they need to return the focus to the group (ie. We apologize for Zoey, our bad). They also dropped a major spoiler about a returning character that was not cupcake girl. That was enough to keep it on the DVR.

I'm really torn though. I read a full review of the full hour before deciding to watch. Like many others if it can't be Robin I would have wanted it to be Cupcake Girl. And I know its not her but having her back for a couple episodes is enough to make me watch.

Beercules was good. Robin was good. More of that, less pros and cons lists about characters we haven't even been introduced to! I soooooooooo want this show to be great again as it gets to a conclusion!

ISiddiqui 09-20-2011 10:01 AM

"She reached for the check" - that was just brilliance.

terpkristin 09-20-2011 05:42 PM

I loved the Beercules bit. Was definitely the highlight for me of both episodes. Oh, and how Marshall ruined Punchy's wedding.

I'm tired of this running around in circles bit. While I love Barney as a character, this is not "How Barney met his wife who is probably Robin." I'd like them to get to the meeting of the mother and the courtship...

/tk

ISiddiqui 09-20-2011 05:57 PM

But then the show is over... basically.

DaddyTorgo 09-20-2011 06:00 PM

I have a bad feeling they're going to cop out of showing us the courtship, or potentially even actually showing us the meeting of the mother. I can see them resorting to like...a disembodied female voice taking over the narration of that episode and showing it from her POV and never actually catching a glimpse of her and then "BAM" the show ends with him coming up and introducing himself.

DanGarion 09-20-2011 06:57 PM

And this is where I think Carter and Bays screwed up, I don't think show HAD to be over when the Mother was met, but they have now backed themselves so far into a corner that that is the only way the show will end. Even with the title I think most of the people that love the show would have loved to also seen how the Mother fit into the dynamic of friends, but we know that isn't going to happen now, since they have basically said, next year it's over.
