Facebook friends probably have already seen these, but here are a couple of my pictures. It is not much fun when the snow is twice as high as the snow blower. I actually went through and had to shovel off the top 6-10 inches of snow to the ground to keep the snow blower from stalling out.

Overhead power lines + many trees + winter climate = Yikes.

I was a bit jealous of the neighbor's snowblowers today. All I had was my crappy shovel.

Yeah. Amazingly, we never lost power. Usually all it takes is some strong winds to knock our power out.

Nothing like the dichotomy of waking up to a gorgeous winter wonderland and a big breakfast of bacon & eggs, then letting the realization sink in that I've got to haul my big, dairy and grease filled gut outside and shovel that shit.

Outside of maybe the first hour or two where it was normal density, that was some of the lightest, fluffiest snow I can recall. Which led to the massive blowing and large drifts that made travel so dangerous during it (not that many tried - from what I saw driving home from work at 5:00 people didn't exactly adhere to the 4pm ban, but I don't think anyone intended to enforce it then, and everyone except plows and emergency vehicles seemed to off the road entirely by like 7 from what I could see - no repeat of '78 with cars getting trapped on highways up here), but led to very easy shoveling afterwards.

The trouble was/is, there's nowhere to put that much snow, so with weather projected to be low 40's at best and dry the next week after today this precipitation will be very important. I'm rooting for it to switch from snow to rain as early as possible and melt at least half this stuff, but that increases the risk of flooding along rivers (or any storm drains that are clogged/get backed up), and roofs/tree limbs collapsing due to weight. Outside of a couple South Shore/Cape communities that got hit hard the timing (starting Friday night) and density of this storm was pretty perfect in terms of keeping people safe and the economic impact to a minimum - and people have basically treated it as a 3-day vacation, drinking inside, walking down streets, accepting that all roads are half their normal width if they do have to drive somewhere, etc. We'll see how things play out today - hopefully the region's luck holds out and enough melts we can widen the roads back to their normal number of lanes, etc, but it could be dicey.

Looks like our winter luck here in KC is finally going to run out. We haven't had a winter storm of note for over two years. Looks like we're going to get 12-15 inches tomorrow. At least we're not getting any ice/sleet.

Should be in my neck of the woods around midnight.

The wife and I are in Saint Louis to experience an actual "winter event". So if you hear about a couple of Californians dying stranded on the side of the road in a rental car, then we made the news!

News says its holding off until mid morning. 1-3 inches of snow and sleet. 1/10th of an inch of ice.
This could change if the storm shifts south. But it doesnt look like it will.
School is out. Relaxing day tomorrow.

Im heading back to St Louis in the morning. Im hoping that it holds off enough so my flight runs smoothly and on time. I should be in by 930a. If something changes I will be an unhappy camper.

Heaviest snow track switched overnight......right on top of us. Looks like a long day clearing snow at the winery is in the works for me today. At least the John Deere tractor cab is heated.

Got to laugh. There are cars stuck on the interstate right now. If we're expecting 10-15 inches of snow and you don't have 4x4, don't bother. You're just getting in the way and honestly risking people's lives.

Just saw a road cam with someone out of their car on the interstate clearing their windows. Wish I could stand right next to that person and tell them the story about the last snow storm where my firefighter buddy responded to an accident. He rolled up to find a guy who had got out of his car and then another car slid into him and pinned him against his car. Severed the guy's legs.

i may skipping my morning class. I don't like the sound of driving down 675 with ice.

We have gotten ice, then snow, now sleet. This afternoon they are saying we will get thunder snow. Then more ice tonight.
What a crazy storm.

OK, I no it is minor league compared to what most of you are going through, but we actually got some scattered snow in the Phoenix metro area yesterday. Lived here since 1996 and it is only the 3rd time it has happened.

For some reason, that road is a fucking skating rink when there has barely been any snow, hate to see it with a solid layer of ice on it. Probably a good call.

We're going to end up with around 13" when all is done later tonight. Here's a couple of pictures from out at the winery before we started clearing the road and making snow mountains everywhere.

The level of peoples stupidity never ceases to amaze me. There is no where to go that it is worth risking your life for.

If you guys ever want to see the end result of roads like that come down to our salvage yard, I'll give you a tour and we can grab some lunch

Looks like another 14-15 inches coming for us this weekend in the Central Massachusetts hills. If we get what they are suggesting, that will put us over 4 1/2 feet for this month alone. We have had considerable snow the last three weekends.
