I'll leave bets open until I go to bed, in a little bit from now. I will post at that point and open voting.

Autumn 04-22-2013 09:56 PM

Betting is over.

Day One has begun. you are now free to vote. Voting will end at 9 pm EST Tuesday.

Tuesday at about 9 am EST I will post the list of services that can be bid on during the day.

VOTE ZINTO

Narcizo 04-23-2013 06:58 AM

Prepare for everyone to put their votes where their bets are and nobody move them. :) Hope some people have betted on more than one person coz at the moment everyone is going to vote for the person they thought yesterday was most likely to get votes. So Danny should be safe.

Vote Britrock

Narcizo 04-23-2013 07:00 AM

Sorry Britrock I figured that people would be tired of voting Zinto on the first day, DV would get a "been away awhile and not around at deadline" pass and Jackal being discussed yesterday would put people off of him.

Yeah! Right! If I was a wolf I wouldn't even mention your plan unless I could find a problem with it. ALL my experience of werewolf on this board tells me that any effort to coordinate village activity in this way is not going to work. What generally happens is that 3 or 4 active people agree on a plan, try to work said plan and then go after the people who they believe sabotaged the plan when it, inevitably, fails. Leaving the wolves alone because they just sit on the sidelines.

See one of Lathum games (WoW I think it was) for an example that borders on the realms of parody of this phenomenom.

JAG 04-23-2013 07:07 AM

I don't think it's necessarily a good idea for people to vote where they bet (which is why I haven't and am thinking about where I want to go). It tells the mob where the money is, which I don't think we would want them to know.

Coffee Warlord 04-23-2013 07:41 AM

I bet on everyone. I stand to make at LEAST 3 dollars.

Autumn 04-23-2013 08:24 AM

The day dawns in Atlantic City. There is a sense of possibility and of menace. The possibility of success beyond your wildest dreams or the possibility of despair like you've never felt. Anything is for sale here in the seaside city, including some things that really should not be. This city isn't what it could be. If you can rid it of the riffraff you know it could be a beautiful destination and not a den on iniquity.

Below are the services available on Day 1. Each player may send in one bid to me privately during the day. In your PM to me tell me what service you want to bid on and how much of your money you want to bid. If you win the auction you will spend that much money and receive the use of the service. if you lose, you will keep your money. You may not bid more money than you currently have (NOTE: this is a revision of the rules as originally posted).

Quote:

ATLANTIC CITY SERVICES FOR HIRE

Mick "Stones" McGee - Hired muscle for the guy who wants some protection
Donna Black Investigations - When you need somebody checked out
Cookie's Ladies - Send somebody a "friend" to entertain them through the night
Sandy Back Messenger Service - When you need to send a message fast
Casino2Casino Wire Transfer - When you want to send a buck to a friend

BLACKMARKET SERVICES - HIRE AT YOUR OWN RISK
The Money Hole - money lending for the desperate gambler
Joe "Creaky" Reitzler - they say that Creaky will make a guy disappear for you

Autumn 04-23-2013 08:25 AM

Bidding is open until 9 pm, make sure you send in your bid by then - just one for one service (thought you're allowed to change your mind).

Voting also ends at 9 pm.

You could have at least tried to help rather than dismissing the idea out of hand. Meh, your attitude towards it bothers more than anything else. Predicting that something won't work due to everyone's inability to coordinate is a self-fullfilling prophesy. It's not scummy per se, just annoying.

Are you just worried about making wealthier people attractive night kill targets, or is there something else that I'm missing?

mauchow 04-23-2013 09:07 AM

I didn't vote on my bet. And I only bet on one player. I may as well try to hit big with it.

My bet was based on some algorithms I put together for the last 100 games of WW. Yeeaaahh..no I didn't.

mauchow 04-23-2013 09:32 AM

Font, its a decent idea in theory. There is nothing wrong with trying to come up with ideas.

Yes, a villager who's wealthy is akin to a roled villager, so they would be an attractive target all things being equal. Also, there was a service last time that allowed you to steal from another player, though at least this first day there does not appear to be such a service, it's still something to be aware of.

DaddyTorgo 04-23-2013 09:51 AM

I only put down one bet, and I have no intention of voting where my bet was just because my bet was there. I just picked who I thought was a likely D1 target frankly.

I've got a pretty busy day today (calls @ 11:30 and 3 and plenty of work to do between, and then a meeting with a financial planner @4 and hopefully get my ass to the gym after that) so I might be scarce until around 7pm EDT.

Yeah I understand that - I've been on the other side of the fence a few times before. Bottom line was that I didn't have the time to consider your plan carefully for my own benefit and past experience told me it wasn't worth trying to get other people onboard/convince people not to bother on day 0 even if it turned out to be a good idea. (I'm still a bit unsure of the validity of it).

Yes, I've become lazy in my old age. And then I'll moan about the lack of activity. So, yes, I'm a lazy hypocrite. Sorry.

This mirrors my thinking on the process, as I laid out yesterday. I also felt and still feel that all of us "winning" in the long run helps the two mafia families more, because of their ability to transfer money and to plan their bids silently.

Isn't that essentially the concept you defended with font's plan? Although, I suppose, if we had followed the plan and all won money today, short of someone doing something silly with their bet, we would all be equally wealthy and your concern would be mitigated.

Chief Rum 04-23-2013 10:21 AM

I spread my bet around. I would rather take the better shot at a little money than role the longer odds for the bigger payday. In the end, I don't think the odds work out. If I bet on 3-5 lynch candidates per day, I'll probably get 2-3 hits across the whole game, while it is likely I won't get a single hit betting on one every day.

This of course is outside of days where we have an obvious lynch candidate or two. When that happens it's much easier for all of us to win that one.

You answered it yourself. If we had all spread the wealth around, it wouldn't have mattered. Now that we don't know who bet on who, there's more of a chance the wealth will be more concentrated.

britrock88 04-23-2013 10:35 AM

Any idea how much money is out there to be won with lynch bets?

mauchow 04-23-2013 10:58 AM

Well I supose it will be kept a secret for the most part. We won't know who else won the bets so you're pretty much going to be going on your own unless people will want to divulge..doubtful

britrock88 04-23-2013 11:32 AM

Yeah. Just thought it would help to know how much our $1000 that we start with is worth in the context of bet payouts.

In answer to some questions I've been getting about the betting - you all do not know what the prize money is or any particulars on it. However, you do know that every winner receives a share of the prize money, and so therefore the more winners the smaller their slices of the pie.

Danny 04-23-2013 05:57 PM
