Draft Day Sports: Pro Basketball 2020 - First Look

Today Wolverine Studios showed a preview video of the upcoming 2020 version of their pro basketball game. Brand new very impressive user interface that supports different resolution sizes, which a lot of people have been wanting. Really looks nice and can't wait until further information becomes available. In the meantime, I highly recommend you check out the video link below and keep an eye on this one!

Wow.. great job Gary and WS!!! Pushing sports simulation into a new era, definitely on my radar.

PilotMan 08-21-2019 08:09 PM

If I played BB more I would know better, but having said that it looks beautiful. Gary has done a great job with all his games. The past few years have been great for Wolverine.

Comey 08-21-2019 08:46 PM

Excellent job so far Gary. Looking forward to the finished product.

I'm not much into the NBA but I love supporting Gary and WS. The new game looks so much cleaner and easier to find what you need. Looking forward to it!

I am not a huge fan of real life basketball either, but really do enjoy playing PC games (i.e. Wolverine, NBA2k) that represent the sport. When a game can suck me in even though I don't necessarily enjoy the sport, says something very positive to me about the products. Have enjoyed the past versions and expect this version to take it up a notch with the new UI.

And really nice to hear at some point this makeover will also get applied to the other games...can't wait.

Galaril 08-22-2019 06:06 AM

Any version for android or IOS or just the usual windows and mac .

SlyBelle1 08-22-2019 06:09 AM

no mention of mobile devices so i assume pc only like prior versions

Just Windows for now - I hope that the new platform I am using will allow it to go to Mac in the near future. No mobile.

Also I hope you guys click that link SlyBelle1 posted - it takes you to the 7 minute video so you can see it all in action.

miami_fan 08-22-2019 02:49 PM

Dammit Gary! This was not supposed to be an automatic buy for me this year!

This looks really good though.

Izulde 08-22-2019 03:48 PM

Switching to the team dashboard as the default is one of those small, but smart changes that makes the game inordinately better. Ditto the single click to bring up player cards.

Capital 08-22-2019 04:24 PM

Very impressive screens - especially the dashboard and the related menus off to the left side!

jbergey22 08-22-2019 08:43 PM

I always buy Garys games as he does fine work. My only wish is for more people to realize how great they are so the wolverine community would grow.

kingfc22 08-24-2019 12:16 AM

Looks clean. Really hoping you can get a Mac version out.

calebgibbs 08-29-2019 02:28 AM

This genuinely looks very impressive. Looking forward to diving right into it.

SlyBelle1 08-30-2019 04:52 PM

Continues to look great, more videos and info released. Focus on lineup and coaches screens.

MizzouRah 08-30-2019 06:05 PM

Absolutely beautiful.

Izulde 08-31-2019 01:19 AM

I never realized before how much I wanted stars in the coaching evals.

And gorgeous art on the sub-matrix screen.

SlyBelle1 09-10-2019 07:24 PM

Nice looking revised player card.....

MizzouRah 09-11-2019 10:22 AM

I like it.. maybe Gary could put numbers on the end of the rating bars just to make it easier to quickly see the rating for that particular skill? Then he could do away with the numbers at the bottom?

Just a thought...

QuikSand 09-11-2019 11:16 AM

Agreed, I like the looks of this. Not sure a pro BB game is for me, but who knows...

Brian Swartz 09-11-2019 02:24 PM

One thing I really appreciate about Gary, both from my time at WS and after, is that he never stops trying to improve and make the games better. *clapclap*

SlyBelle1 10-26-2019 10:19 AM

In case you didn't see, pre orders available, including getting "First Access" to the game right now.

Yup. He's always after it.

Sweed 10-29-2019 02:46 PM

Picked this up with the 20% off for v19 owners and am glad I did. I've asked Gary before, like many others I'm sure, about having support for today's bigger monitors and this year he came through. The game looks great on a big screen :D Thanks Gary!

I've barely played the last couple of versions I bought due to being scrunched on my big monitor but I can see myself really getting into v2020 once the 2019-2020 roster drops and the release build comes out.

And put me down as a second for MR's suggestion of having numbers on the ratings bars :)

Yeah we had to make a decision on the new platform so the game is being designed in 1080p now and it scales very nicely to 4k monitors - the trade off is that its small in some cases if you have something less than 1080p like on an old small screen laptop but I think we made the right call on this because it just did not look as good as it should have on the big monitors in the past. I bought a 4k monitor just to see it and I totally agreed with what you and others had to say.

As for the numbers on the ratings bars - they're already there on the player card so if you're not seeing them let me know because I can see them on my end.

Rebuilding this from the ground up was a massive undertaking - it should get easier porting it to college hoops and then there will be some work to do as we port it to the football games but the new platform is so flexible and lets me do so much more and hopefully will allow Mac support maybe next year. This is the best the game has ever looked so I really appreciate those who are already in on the beta and those who will get the demo a try when it's fully launched.

MizzouRah 10-29-2019 06:34 PM

I'm grabbing it before 11/1 to take advantage of the 20% off as well.

Thanks Gary for adding the numbers to the rating bars, can't wait to spend some time with the first access copy.

I don't watch the NBA but this is one game I continue to enjoy.

jbergey22 10-29-2019 07:16 PM

Purchased. Excited about this. Looks like you put a lot of work into it Gary. Thanks

SlyBelle1 10-29-2019 07:40 PM

Yep, good stuff and numbers on rating bars definitely there.....

MizzouRah 10-29-2019 09:00 PM

Looks great!

jbergey22 10-29-2019 09:10 PM

Loving this stuff... Played out a game and the 84-85 Bulls got lit up by the Hawks(84-111). MJ almost had a triple double(31 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists). Dominique was the player of the game(25 points, 7 rebounds)

Just wanted to bump this.

I think this is a fantastic and highly underrated gem of a text sim.

It is beautiful to look at, highly moddable, statistically sound and there are different risk/reward choices to be made.

As an example,my team was knocked out of the second round of the playoffs. I desperately needed another scorer. The following season I was offered a reasonable trade (something that never happens in OOTP) by the computer. Their top center for my backup point guard (who could definitely be a starter on other teams) and a number one pick. The catch? He had a highly disruptive personality. I bit the bullet. Made the trade and won the championship. The downside? He is disrupting team morale this season. And although we are still winning, his stats are down. The story isn't close to finished yet, and soon I will have a choice to make about this highly volatile center.

Ajaxab 11-13-2019 07:24 AM

Does the game allow for a past players to appear in drafts randomly/semi-randomly? Could Jerry West appear in the same draft as Allen Iverson?

korme 11-13-2019 11:29 AM

Anybody got a quick link to a good NBA mod or can I just install a DDSPB19 mod and it should work?

No but if you do a historical replay you can randomize the draft orders so the Jordan class and LeBron class could end up back to back or something

The game has a community roster mod built in and I know someone did a player pack in our first access forum. There's also all the logos and stuff from last year that work and I believe someone is working on an all-in-one installer.

We're still finishing up beta (probably one more beta build) and the beta forum is public so you can stop in there and see what is already available mod wise. LMK if you need any help getting the stuff.

Yes, the player photo pack is very nice. When you use the logos from last year make sure you use the large ones (one size only is needed for v2020).

Last years courts work fine. Only problem is new courts like the Clippers are not in the file (not sure how many teams changed their floor?) but I would guess someone will remedy that too? Easy for me to say as someone that has no idea how to make a court ;)

Hopefully nobody makes the new Brooklyn court...is it just me or does watching Brooklyn Nets games look like you're watching some old movie where everything is black and white (except the opposing team)

MizzouRah 11-13-2019 10:16 PM

Hopefully an all in one gets released at some point. Then I'll dive in.

korme 11-14-2019 12:32 AM

Spent most of my off day playing around with this, ran into an annoying bug that I could work around but ultimately it stopped my ability to advance at the end of a season, no matter all the tricks I had been doing earlier. Too bad. Looking forward to the full release, hopefully it won't be buggy

My girlfriend asked if I was watching an old game from the 90's... yikes. I don't mind it!

Yeah I really want to see the game files to see why its stopped and also would like to know what was the bug you were working around. I'm sure if you send me the game files at Support : Wolverine Studios I can figure out what happened and get it cleaned up before the final release

MizzouRah 11-14-2019 08:08 AM

I'm not a huge NBA fan, but would it be safe to say if I'm using real life rosters, starting with the Phoenix Suns would be quite the challenge?

50 years in the NBA and no Championship and dead last in the Western Conference last season.

I will be sure to do that when I have time - probably tomorrow. Running historical, every time I expanded the Mavs (and then took them over), there was an error shortly after the rookie draft but before free agency, where I would get a prompt on the roster and matrix screens but I could always get past it, even though the corner always said D-League Assign even though that wasnt the stage I was on - I'd just have to go to a new screen and Play/Sim would come back up. The game killer was trying to advance the final day of the season , June 19 would just be a pending advance until I had to kill it.

Just to give you an idea. I'll send some stuff tomorrow when I have time

Johnny93g 11-15-2019 09:04 PM

Is there a Demo for this. I went to Wolverine Studios, but i couldn't find one.

LastWhiteSoxFanStanding 11-15-2019 10:09 PM

Not yet because it is still in beta. The final version is coming out next week and usually that is when Gary releases a demo so I would expect the demo to come out next week.

korme 11-16-2019 10:20 AM

Gary, I sent some files but it said the career file was too large on the support website. Is there another way?

Just a suggestion, upload it to a free file sharing site like media fire or box.com and then just send the link to Gary and he can download from there.
