How good is the QB?
I'm new to this game and started a single-player career with the 49ers, my favorite team. Garoppolo is terrible in my save, 0s in basically every type of passing besides medium passes, so I need a new QB. We did so poorly in my first year that we have the second pick in the draft, behind only the Bills and I'm hoping they'll pick another position because of Josh Allen.
This guy https://imgur.com/a/hjhe8o8? is rated as the top prospect in the draft, there are very few other decent QBs, and his bars+combine look really good to me, but after I interviewed him my impression is "Very overrated". What I want to know is: How much should this impression influence my draft choice, and does he still look like a franchise QB to other people? |
His Combine Scores are good where it counts - as for scouting, I once passed on a player in MP where my scouts said Very Overrated and another GM drafted him and he was an All-Pro.
Since then I no longer use the 12 interviews and concentrate solely on Combine Scores and where they fall in relation to the following Constraints. Quarterbacks Bench (10) Solecismic (28) Agility (7.80) Running Backs Broad Jump (114) Dash (4.65) Agility (7.35) Position Drill (17) Fullbacks Position Drill (22) Dash (4.78) Bench (20) Broad Jump (104) Wide Receivers Dash (4.51) Agility (7.20) Position Drill (42) Tight Ends Broad Jump (102) Dash (4.78) Bench (22) Agility (7.75) Tackles Bench (28) Dash (5.27) Agility (7.80) Broad Jump (84) Guards Bench (27) Dash (5.27) Agility (7.90) Centers Dash (5.31) Bench (25) Agility (8.00) Defensive Ends Bench (27) Agility (7.60) Dash (4.85) Defensive Tackles Agility (7.80) Bench (28) Inside Linebackers Agility (7.60) Bench (21) Broad Jump (107) Outside Linebackers Agility (7.40) Broad Jump (108) Bench (18) Position Drill (22) Cornerbacks Bench (12) Dash (4.52) Agility (7.20) Position Drill (37) Safeties Agility (7.35) Dash (4.59) Bench (15) Position Drill (37) Punters Dash (4.97) Bench (10) Kickers Bench (9) Solecismic (23) Broad Jump (104) |
I also use those cut-offs to inform my scouting, but there has to be some value to the bars right? Otherwise why even include it? I'm glad to hear someone Very Overrated can still be good because he otherwise looks really good to me.

The Draft Analyzer v8.1.5.0 shows bar value score and provides an overall rating of a prospect.
You can also see bar values by viewing them in the draft_personal file found in the leaguedata directory |
Perhaps I am in the minority, but I still rely heavily on the scout impression. However, because of scout error, I use other data points (bar profile, static bars, overall combine ratings, etc.) in an effort to determine if the scout is correct.
The QB looks solid, but that position is very difficult to get right in FOF 8. Also, a brief comment on constraints. It’s not always a hard stop to discount a rookie if he falls outside the constraints. Part of the equation will depend on your combine accuracy setting. You can often miss a really good player who has a bad combine. A most recent example was a RB in the TFL draft who had a 7.78 agility score and a 20 sole score. His other combines were middle of the road. But he did have great static bars. Two games into the season, the rookie is 55/60 overall with a 82/100 hole rec bar. The combine setting in the league is 75. |

Are these bench marks still relevant? They translate to different skills now in FOF8 I believe |

Nowadays I barely pay attention to Combines anymore... |

Scout result is interesting because you have to consider the result within context. To prated players in a draft are usually going to come back Overrated or VO. Why? Because they are top rated and there's only one way to go: down. Those top rated guys also tend to have max bars, so when you interview them those bars come down. Hence, "overrated". The QB you interviewed still looks really good, but there's always a chance he's a total faker and the game is gonna kill him. Cause that's what happens with a lot of QBs. ;) |

That makes a lot of sense when you put it that way, thanks for clearing it up. School/life have prevented me from making much progress on my save so I still haven't had a chance to do the draft, but I'll be sure to post an update on how he looks if I do end up getting him. |

I totally agree with this. there has to be some reason for it. Some setting in the game where the bars matter. Ive played this game many years and this version is very frustrating almost to the point where I can't stand the game |
I hate this version too, fwiw

Almost forgot I made this thread, figured I should update with a picture midway through season 1: https://imgur.com/a/XGH19NO
I'm very happy with the pick, even though he has a lot of development to go we've gone from 3-13 doormats to 8-2 and top of the power rankings in his first season. To make things even sweeter, Buffalo used the #1 overall pick on a RB who busted and then promptly got suspended his entire rookie season. |

are these numbers even relevant anymore? Combine scores and the player ratings they influence have changed since ben put these numbers out there |
