NBC: Heroes

Ok, just watched this on my Tivo and my friend tells me the cheerleader girl was in "Remember the Titans". Damn I feel old now.

Then:

Now:

KWhit 09-29-2006 11:10 PM

Looks exactly the same to me.

MikeVic 09-29-2006 11:27 PM

I liked the premiere a lot.

So far I've been entertained by both...nothing amazing, but intriguing none the less.

Joe 09-30-2006 12:30 AM

i tried to like it, but fell asleep

Izulde 09-30-2006 12:40 AM

I missed both episodes :(

I'm going to try and catch this week's, though. Will I still understand what's going on or will I be lost without the backstory?

Wait, I thought only 1 episode has been shown so far?

Huckleberry 09-30-2006 02:23 AM

I hadn't even noticed. Obviously now I wonder how I missed it but her facial expressions have changed a lot.

FBPro 09-30-2006 02:33 AM

It is only one, just rebroadcast.

Coop 09-30-2006 02:33 AM

There was only 1 episode shown so far and apparently the next two episodes are "unbelievable"

Thomkal 09-30-2006 07:08 AM

As a comic book junkie, I love shows like this. It had some surprisingly adult themes (drug abuse, porn, etc) which I wasn't expecting from the previews I saw, so that was a surprise. But looks like the show will be a lot of fun. I think the Japanese guy may steal the show :) Was very surprised by the preview of what he apparantly finds at the newsstand.

Thomkal 09-30-2006 07:09 AM

Izulde they will probably show a "recap" of the first episode on the second episode, so you shouldn't be too lost. NBC.com probably has a recap of the story too.

kurtism 09-30-2006 08:28 AM

If you go here: http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/ you can stream the entire premiere ep

Anthony 09-30-2006 09:19 AM

i liked this episode a lot. easily in my short rotation of shows (i only watch Lost and Sopranos, now Heroes). my wife loved it as well.

does anyone know what the power/ability is for Ali Larter's character? she can be in two places at once? or is it supposed to be a secret for now?

I think it's a secret. I find it interesting too: what's her power?

I read speculation that maybe her son is the one with a power, and she is just some crazy woman. :D Web porn star by day, killer by night lol. Also, maybe her reflection can interact with another person's reflection, and it'll affect them in real life.

sachmo71 09-30-2006 11:54 AM

She may be able to split herself into another person, like what's-his-nuts from new mutants. tommy madrox, I think.

EDIT: It's Jamie Madrox

gottimd 09-30-2006 12:09 PM

I was thinking she has control of shadows/reflections or something. I am sure I am way off on that, but it was like she can control them (in due time) to do what she wants.

Or maybe her superpower is to get naked....all of the time.

EDIT:
Here is the Wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_%28TV_series%29
Says her power is like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppelg%C3%A4nger

jbmagic 09-30-2006 12:10 PM

Will all these hereos meet and become a team later on?

Glengoyne 09-30-2006 12:12 PM

I'm thinking that her power will be revealed by what is on her video tape. Someone cleaned those guy's clocks, and I'm wanting to check out the video.

Most interesting series of the new season.

From the previews it looks they do meet up at some point. Didn't next weeks episode show them talking to the painter guy and saying something about saving the cheerleader?

Also, I think villains may start being introduced, other than the horned rim glasses guy.

From what I saw, apparently they find a comic book that either forsees the events in their lives, or recounts them right after they happen. I think they start delving into that next week.

Coop 09-30-2006 02:31 PM

they start meeting around episode 4

jbmagic 09-30-2006 06:30 PM

The SciFi Channel has announced that they will be re-running the current week's episodes of Heroes on Friday nights at 7pm (ET) starting on September 29, 2006. These airings come right before new-to-the-USA episodes of Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica so you know it'll be a good night of TV!!!

Chances are though, if you have high-def TV in your area, you'll still want to catch the Monday NBC airings because they'll look the best.

terpkristin 09-30-2006 06:39 PM

I guess I may be one of the only ones, but I felt that the series premiere was a solid "meh," and wasn't enough to keep me wanting to watch future weeks. I saw what they were trying to do, and I guess the concept has potential, but to me, it felt like the premiere was really too drawn out, it took too long...

I'll be interested in seeing what people think as the show goes on, but for now, this is a skip for me.

KevinNU7 09-30-2006 10:04 PM

Dudes, Ali's character is clearly a Doppelganger (excuse the spelling).

I thought maybe she "Hulked" out once she got hit. That doesn't really explain the odd reflections in the mirrors though.

Raiders Army 10-01-2006 10:57 AM

Just watched the first episode this morning (again, loving our DVR). I would guess that the stripper's character is somewhat like the Hulk, since no one else can see her reflections...then again, it could be that her reflection is coming to life since after the two dudes in her house were killed her reflection looked as if it was in a fight yet she didn't.

My wife called that the dude in the glasses was the cheerleader's dad right before he walked in.

I was thinking a jekyl and hyde type character.

Easy Mac 10-02-2006 09:03 PM

this is now on my Must Watch List. I've heard that people don't like the first few episodes (critics), too much exposition. It's a comic book TV show, that's the point of origin stories.

Be that as it may, this is now behind Lost, The Office and House on my don't miss list.

Neuqua 10-02-2006 09:05 PM

I'm glad you like the show.

I just couldn't get into it for the second straight week. Ah well, looking forward to seeing 30 Rock (or whatever it is called) that premieres next week.

Coop 10-02-2006 09:06 PM

This episode was better than last weeks...the ending was great imo

Celeval 10-02-2006 09:24 PM

I like it a lot, so far. Definately on my must-watch. I still don't have a solid feel for the stripper yet, either.

No, you're not the only one. I was really excited to see this show...until I actually watched it. And I LIKE comic book movies, etc (Unbreakable, X-men, V for Vendetta, Hellboy, Spiderman, etc etc). I even like the girl from Titans, Raising Helen, etc.

But the characters/actors to me were uncompelling, I don't remember a single clever piece of dialogue or writing, and of course--the old Hollywood standby--"If we can't produce something actually interesting in content or plot, just get somebody naked!" Please. I find the obvious ploy to get 14-yr-old boys all sweaty an insult. If you can't make something worth watching without somebody getting naked, stripping, or humping on screen, what exactly separates your work from a B-level porn flick? It's like comedians who aren't actually funny just saying #$@#%$ and everybody laughs. I call it "Least Common Denominator" producing. I was hoping for something more from this series. /end rant/

Yes, Yes. I enjoyed most of the show but the ending truly had me geeked out.

MikeVic 10-02-2006 10:31 PM

I also liked the ending... So Hiro will now know pieces of how stuff goes down... great that he can't speak english either. :D Instead of November 8th, I wish they used a real show date. That way you knew what day to watch for that to happen.

FBPro 10-02-2006 10:37 PM

Must see TV on my list, a bit hard to understand at this point but I'm sure some of the details will become more clear as time goes on.

ISiddiqui 10-02-2006 11:03 PM

Great 2nd episode, kind of following everyone's life, developing all the characters a bit, and then.... reset. Really cool. I wonder how stuff is going to get all altered as a result. Because you know how things happened in this episode will not happen the same way after the reset. Or did all that stuff happen before Hiro went to New York and Hiro was just occupying the future for a while?

Basically, Hiro went from 10/2 to 11/8. My question is whether all the stuff with the other people happened before 10/2 (and Hiro's story was the only one in 11/8) or did that stuff happen before 11/8, which means it can be altered by Hiro's knowledge of the future?

Interesting questions...

spleen1015 10-02-2006 11:03 PM

Just finished episode 2. The ending was surprising. I didn't see that one coming. I am definitely anxious to tune in next week.

kingfc22 10-03-2006 12:01 AM

Very cool ending to this weeks episode.

Ryche 10-03-2006 12:10 AM

I had noticed when he originally teleported that the clock over his head accelerated but didn't think anything of it. Interesting turn of events there.

I really like the pace of the show right now. They're not rushing it, but making steady progress. I have a feeling the stripper's son is going to end up playing a huge part of this before it's over.

Izulde 10-03-2006 01:04 AM

I wasn't able to catch this week's episode, but I finally caught the premiere and I came away pretty impressed with it. I loved the dialogue between the Japanese guys and I think they hit on some nice cultural things there. :D

I don't know if we get Sci-Fi here at the fraternity house or not, but if we do I'll catch Week 2's episode on Friday.

Week 1 ended on a very nice cliffhanger, I think and I'll admit the first thing that came to mind when I saw that ending is something from the Dragonlance novels.

sachmo71 10-03-2006 01:10 AM

I'm hoping the dialog gets better...it's pretty painful. Must remember it's a comic book, I guess.

Draft Dodger 10-03-2006 07:24 AM

dialogue is pretty poor...but I dig this show very much. that ending was terrific.

Thomkal 10-03-2006 07:27 AM

I guess I watched a different show than Revrew. :) I've found many of the characters and their situations compelling. The interaction between the two brothers and the questions over whether they need each other to fly, the interaction between the daughter and the father, given what we know about the father, Hiro's continual real comic book references. The weakest character so far I think is the cop, but then we really haven't got into his story too much yet. I like that actor who plays the cop though, so I hope he becomes more involved in the story. That ending was geektastic. :)

The one thing that has turned me off a bit is the graphic violence-the bodies in the trunk, the murder scene in California and the artist studio were just a little bit too much for me, and not needed to tell a good story.

I can agree here and I was surprised that they showed that much stuff without a parental warning at the beginning of the show.

Anyhow, yeah I love this show too. I believe that some of this stuff is a little too over the top with the Kitty Pryde reference in the pilot episode and then Hiro (another hit-you-over-the-head "he's a HERO!") parallels her path by going into an apocalyptic future; however, this show definitely has me hooked.

ISiddiqui 10-03-2006 07:50 AM

I think the graphic violence is to contrast the relative 'clean' violence you find in comic books or superhero movies. It's showing how gory being a superhero in real life would be.

I noticed they played episode 1 after wrasslin' on USA last night, at 1100pm EST.
