SPRING TRAINING STANDINGS
NL --- Milwaukee 17-7 Phoenix 15-9 Chicago 14-10 Los Angeles 11-13 Brooklyn 8-16 Carolina 7-17 AL ---- Rio Grande 16-8 Seattle 13-11 Philadelphia 13-11 Memphis 12-12 San Diego 11-13 Pennsylvania 7-17 |
Remember this season we're doing the trial full-season standings, so there won't be a half-season champ. 1st half will be simmed on Wednesday, draft simmed on Thursday and you can make deals that day or sign any remaining free agents via public auction and then Friday we'll do the 2nd half, with the post-season sim on Monday.
The file is up. |
I'll be simming the 1st half tonight. So get those exports in before around say 10pm eastern time. If you need more time than that, let me know.
Woo new season! |
I forgot to export but I think my lineups are set so I should be ok.
|
All right, it's time to party.
|
First season at the helm. Not going to be pretty, methinks.
|
Ok, I got distracted. Now really running the 1st half. :)

I knew Seattle would be bad, I didn't quite think we'd be LAST PLACE bad. But I guess that's a lesson learned. Heh.
Armando Cuarenta of Carolina is hitting .400. Jerry Price is playing rejuvenated baseball it seems in Philly, hitting 12 HRs so far and is on pace for a 50 HR season which would be our first. |

Kelvin Boyd of Brooklyn is hitting .401
Cecil Bryant of Brooklyn is hitting .397 Miguel Ramos of Memphis is leading the AL with .333 batting average. How is it that the NL's best hitter is doing better than the DH league's best hitters? Wacky stuff. Kenny Barnes (PHL) and Andres Miranda (PHX) lead their respective leagues with 10 wins. Chicago's Nelson Remedios leads all comers with 143 strikeouts thus far. And he's a free agent after this season... |

You'll want to do your draft lists and export tomorrow for that. Also, the trade block is open until tomorrow night too. Finally, if you would like to sign someone in the free agent pool for the 2nd half, post your public auction bid in this thread as well. Oh one more thing, if you'd like to create a legacy player to start using in the 2nd half, you'll want to drop me a note and send along your player prototype now. If you decide you're not going to play ball right now (though I'd strongly encourage you to try it. Seriously, it'll be fun. Trust me...) you reserve the right to add your franchise/legacy player later on. I'll be doing a new feature where I track said players throughout their careers each year, so we'll know what teams have them and which ones don't. I'll let you know when the file is up. |
Quote:
Not bad for a rookie! Looking forward to this kid being part of the Memphis squad for years. |
File is up! Draft tomorrow, 2nd half Friday. Still anyone's game really with a strong second half. And in case you need an infusion of possible talent, Seattle is open to talking. :)
|
Weird, says no new file on server. I'll try again in the AM.
|
I've fixed it. The file name at home generates lower case, at work it's all upper case and some how it causes a problem with the download so I need to make the file name on my home one the same as the work one. Anyway, it's fixed now.

Cole will be taking over the dormant Carolina Kings franchise starting immediately. Welcome him aboard!

Running after doing the signings for mid-season FA.
|
Quote:
These mid season signings... can we pm you instructions to get them in the lineup for the second half sim? |
Draft is run and file is up. Seattle, San Diego and Brooklyn have added legacy players who we'll profile once the HTML is up so you learn more about them. Second half is tomorrow night!
|
Quote:
I think they will appear on your roster once the post draft file is done tonight. |
Quote:
You can do it now for tomorrow night's sim. But yeah if you don't have game access then sure, PM me and I'll fix you up. That's why it's allowed for the 2nd half though, because you get a night to alter your roster to insert those players. |
Quote:
So I'm looking at the 3 legacy players added and it sure looks like all 3 have far more than 100 pts and all 3 look to be star players. Did you change your mind on these parameters or did I misunderstand your 100 pts and no star players post? Also was I late on posting a bid for Nathan Graham? |
Quote:
I wasn't especially clear on the 100 points, that's why I tried to clarify it by saying "just give me a MLB historical/present parallel or give me stats. In each case, folks gave me stats and I built a player around those parameters. I tried to overexplain it in the original post. The idea was to create a legacy player. A person who'll be with your team forever, who is a captain-type who will be with your franchise throughout his career (unless someone wants to be known for dealing Babe Ruth). If he sucks, that'd defeat the purpose. :) I just meant they wouldn't be maxed out superstars. As for Graham, he should've been added. But it seems I missed him, I'm reopening the game to fix that now. Give me a few minutes to reupload the new file with him in it. |
Ok, new file is up with Graham.
|
So I can pick any player past or present and basically have him added to my team and not have to pay him a salary for 15 seasons?
How do the secondary ratings like speed and defense get determined? Do you pick a position for the player to play or is it based on the position played by the player who is doing the modeling? Quote:
|
Okay, I'm new here. All of you guys posting players and contracts...what is up with that? Is that how we re-sign guys?
|
Quote:
Sorry for not being explaining this for our new folks. during the mid-season break between 1st and 2nd half, you post anyone you want to sign via public auction. Only major leaguers that you will put on your roster in the 2nd half. Can't be someone who sits in the minors. The game doesn't ink deals fast enough during those few days we have off, so that's why it's done manually. It's the only time we do that out of game, otherwise, it's always in-game. |
Quote:
Yes, basically. Think of it as create-a-player in your favorite video game. You PM me with as much or as little detail and then I go to town. Stats are easy because OOTP will build a player around those. Defense and speed, you indicate as well or at least the guys have so far. (He's speedy or strong defense to make up for his lack of pop, etc.) or they just send me a stat line. |
My personal opinion is that these legacy players should indeed count against the salary cap. Especially so if they are going to be impact type players.
Maybe they could have reduced contracts or something to that effect but getting a free star player defeats the purpose of having a salary cap. |
Quote:
I don't want to have to deal with the accounting. The purpose of these players is to give each team a "signpost" player that might increase immersion. With team name changes, owner swaps and the natural up and down that leagues have, sometimes it can be hard to keep consistency with all of that. Having a player who is "always" around for a decade or so, is a nice way to return to a bygone era when players stayed with one team. So you can imagine that these guys DO have max contracts, but account for them and trying to subtract them from the salary cap is more work than it's worth. So it's not that they "don't" have a salary, it's that the salary they have isn't relevant for our cap purposes. So we could say that their salary is equal to 95% of the top three players in the league at the time of their signing, but...again, I don't want to have to spend time subtracting that from each person's cap, because it's more work than it's worth just to say "they have a value." And it's only one. There won't be any additions to this or anything like that. It was just meant to be fun and since everyone gets one, it doesn't negate competition and it's not basketball so one guy isn't going to change the game that much. |
I definitely understand what you're saying about not wanting to police every legacy players contract. Wouldn't an easy work around just be to set each legacy player contract to like say 10 million per year at the time of creation?
|
Quote:
Okay, I'll post this in the legacy player thread. Each legacy contract will be permanently be 15 years/$300 million or $20m per year. I'm not going to edit in game, because $100m is easy to police and look at. But if a legacy player somehow gets dealt or is released, that figure will begin to count against a $100m cap. So long as they stay with their original team, it doesn't get calculated. Then I'd edit their salary in-game from that time, as their contract would be immediately cap tied. So then it doesn't raise the cap, but incentives the purpose of having a legacy player (and lowers the temptation significantly of a team not doing well thinking of dealing their legacy player for a haul.) |
Bad start for me in the league as before I headed off to work I didn't have a chance to send in a draft list ... A poor fielded shortstop with no power isn't exactly who I would have wanted with the first overall pick. Oh well....

AL Wild Card playoff: Philadelphia 6, Rio Grande 3
|
ALCS: San Diego v. Philadelphia Is this the year the Fathers get over the hump?!
NLCS: Phoenix v. Milwaukee in Brother Bowl once again in a battle of our defending champs versus the previous back to back ones. If we were still doing 1st half/2nd half, it seems as though Phoenix would've won both halves of the NL, with Milwaukee claiming the wild card as they did anyway. In the AL, Rio Grande would've claimed the 1st half title and San Diego would've won the 2nd half, meaning that 2nd place overall Philly would've been left out in the cold, but given it took a one-game playoff to determine their playoff spot anyway, perhaps it all worked out for the best? |
File is up. See you for the playoffs on Monday!

Time for a bit of playoff baseball.
