Consolidated League Rules/Info Thread

GENERAL INFORMATION
RULES
I. FREE AGENCY/DRAFTING
  • All contracts to UFAs during FA2:1-5 must be for three years or longer. Any exports violating this will be removed.
  • There is no traditional "draft." The worst 224 rookies will be placed onto teams (and usually not signed.) The top 630 or so will be available to be signed as free agents (to three-year deals) during FA2 by any team.
II. TRADING
  • No player signed to a new contract in the current year may be traded. (FOF rules enforced.)
III. MISCELLANEOUS
  • No taking more than 70 players into training camp.
  • This is a fast-paced league, run as a Benevolent Dictatorship. The commish is open to change, and may even decide to put some matters up for vote, but the overall vision of the league isn't going to change.

If I've left anything off that people would need (and isn't linked from the web page), please post it here.

I assume the no QBs or WRs over 6.0 grade rule is still in effect? Not necessarily a rule players have to follow but maybe important info strategy-wise for new peeps to know.

It's 6.5, and yes, it's still in. Post updated.

Question: Since the entire pre-season is simmed in one day, are injuries turned off for the pre-season?

Tasan 01-26-2009 07:23 PM

Do we have restrictions on contract renewals? Can we renew anyone, or just guys in their last year of a contract?

Ben E Lou 05-19-2009 07:13 AM

Where's the original big file located? I figure we can point new owners to that, and I'll include the 2020-current year stats file in the begin season file each year, so any new owner can get updated.

wade moore 05-19-2009 07:27 AM

I don't think that was ever on TSN - that was using the old upload method.

Ben E Lou 05-19-2009 07:48 AM

Absolutely. It's on my server somewhere. I'm just wondering if anyone remembers where. :p

Is that what you were looking for?

FYI the younglifenorthdekalb domain seems to have expired.

I *try* to, but if I hit the beginning of a week and miss it, I try to give close to 24 hours during more important stages. This stage is about to run now.

Ben E Lou 08-21-2009 10:14 AM

ACtually, it's gonna be a fair bit later today. Between work, IHOF HoF, and WOOF end-season, this needs to take a bit of a back seat given the next file won't be due here until Monday.

cthomer5000 09-01-2009 08:42 AM

Any type of re-neg is legal? No need to wait until last year of a contract, for example?

Correct, you can renegotiate at any time.

Ben E Lou 09-01-2009 10:11 AM

Correct. With the types of contracts we sign in this league, renegs aren't really a significant problem.

cthomer5000 12-02-2009 11:13 PM

Minnesota seems to just be rolling 70 million over the cap this year. Just to be clear - there is no league policy against this?

Ben E Lou 12-03-2009 04:37 AM

I don't see any immediate reason for a policy against it. Off the top of my head, it seems like a strategy that has major drawbacks. They've gone 9-7 the last two years, and won't be able to re-sign any RFAs if they stay over.

Ben E Lou 12-03-2009 04:38 AM

Dola:

I suppose it's worth watching to see if it's overpowered, but I suspect that it's not at all.

WheelsVT 12-03-2009 07:36 AM

What stops someone from offering 200mil to all the top players for multi year deals during FA2 and staying over the cap for years while they don't have to renegotiate and bring in the championships?

gstelmack 12-03-2009 08:05 AM

Well, they have to be under the cap that first year, and given that bonus outweighs salary, they can't do that with low-bonus high-salary deals (others would beat them on negotiations).

But as Ben said, it's worth watching. Worst case is we fix it in a month or two, no waiting a year for 3 seasons to go by or anything...

Greg is right. The only way to put yourself in this situation in a major way is a bunch of somewhat-backloaded deals (or a small handful of *huge* ones.) Either way, you're signing guys who aren't on anyone's "A" list, so to speak. A bit of supporting evidence for that is that as far over the cap as MN is, they're 14th in both in-game and my roster ratings, which is near the bottom of the human-run teams. Like I said at first, I suspect it's not overpowered at all, and in fact is probably a bad strategy...

cubboyroy1826 12-04-2009 02:49 PM

What stage are you guys at right now? I think i am ready to jump in now.

gstelmack 12-04-2009 03:08 PM

Staff Hiring I runs Monday. Perfect timing. Wrong thread, but perfect timing ;)

TheMeat 12-04-2009 03:38 PM

And may I HIGHLY recommend taking a team in the AFC. by my count there are 12 active teams in the NFC and only 7 in the AFC, we could use some balance, and it would greatly increase your chances of making the playoff sometime soonish.

gstelmack 01-18-2010 08:28 AM

1) Remove the FA rule since it no longer applies.
2) Link to the cities/nicknames thread so people know where to get that file.
3) Where are the current banner images? Has anyone put that together yet?

wade moore 01-18-2010 08:56 AM

Huh?

What FA rule no longer applies?

If we're changing rules, I think it needs to be somewhere other than a thread with some innocuous title. I see the one about the tag, but I don't' see anything about any FA rules changing.

gstelmack 01-18-2010 10:11 AM

I meant the tag, sorry. I.1 in the rules above.

1. done
2. done
3. I just use the standard NFL ones that someone created long ago. If someone wants to do that, have at it.
